Today I take a deep dive and tackle all things about the flaws in the health care system, specifically in Canada, but I think that majority applies worldwide. In this episode I discuss all things from medical expenses, prescription accessibility, medical gaslighting, the lack of patient centred care and more. If you have ever felt like there are flaws in the health care system this is the episode for you.  In no way I am trying to be disrespectful, I am just trying to bring awareness My IG: https://www.instagram.com/livingwithaninvisibleinjury/ or @livingwithaninvisibleinjury Website: https://invisibleinjury.wixsite.com/website email: livingwithaninvisibleinjury@gmail.com Want to be a guest on the podcast? Are you someone that is a competitive athlete? If you have ever been ripped away from your sport after a concussion you may know that there is a lot of pain and anger that follows. I sustained my first concussion from synchronized swimming and was later forced to quit due to my injuries. I remember the pain and sadness I felt watching my teammates compete while I sat on the sidelines in pain.

Prior to leaving the sport I did have a traumatic experience with a coach not listening to me when I told them I was physically in pain. Unfortunately, situations like this happen often in sports but, now we are starting to see better implementations of concussion protocols in sports.

Today I talk about the frustrations and challenges that chronic pain and chronic illness patients face when dealing with imaging tests & blood work. For many of us our doctors order us (or we request) these imaging tests or blood work panels, and we hope to get some form of result that will tell us why we are experiencing our symptoms but, they often show up normal.

Hope you enjoyed today's episode, thanks for listening!

Rowan’s Law was named for Rowan Stringer, a high school rugby player from Ottawa, who died in the spring of 2013 from a condition known as second impact syndrome. Rowan is believed to have experienced three concussions over six days while playing rugby. She had a concussion but didn’t know her brain needed time to heal. Neither did her parents, teachers or coaches. - Ontario.ca

The last Wednesday of each September has been designated as Rowan’s Law Day to help raise awareness about concussion safety.

Today I share about Rowan's Law and the importance of having concussion protocols in sports, schools, and work places.

Please to this episode to honour Rowan but, to gain awareness about concussions and become more aware.

Today I discuss what is needed to ensure a healthy relationship between the doctor/practitioner and patient. In order to have a healthy and smooth relationship it takes both parties to work together to ensure the patient has adequate care.

I know I am not the only one who has felt let down from doctors, and the healthcare system so friends I encourage you to never give up!! Keep advocating for yourself :)

Today I sit down and have a conversation with my sister. We are talking all about communication, the difficulties and lack of communication that may occur between families and friends when someone is living with a invisible injury or illness. Having a voice to listen to, even just to relate and bring these issues to light will release the stigma behind the struggle. I hope you enjoy listening to another voice and hearing another side to what it’s like living with an invisible injury.

On today's episode I share 15 things, on what you should NOT say to someone with migraine. When living with migraine we hear it all from family, friends, random people in our DM's, people trying to sell us their products, but we promise we don't want to hear any of it! Of course most family & friends don't mean any harm, they are usually just uneducated. Listen to these 15 things, and tell me if you have had someone tell you them if you live with migraine, or if you know and family or friends who may benefit from this episode share it!

Today I talk about anti-inflammatory diets and why I choose to go gluten, dairy, soy, and processed sugar free for a while. Anti-inflammatory diets can actually be very beneficial for those suffering from migraine. In the episode in talk about how it only worked for about 6 months for me then my headaches & migraine attacks came back but I tried re doing the "diet" this summer again and Its been working great ever since! Let me know if you eat on an anti-inflammatory diet because of migraine or a chronic illness. Has it helped? Is it hard? Do you love or hated it?
Also, I talked about drinking water and the importance of it BUT, remember water will NEVER cure a brain injury, concussion, or chronic illness!

On today’s episode on the podcast I talk all about massage therapy & the benefits that it has for migraine sufferers. I am currently studying to be a registered massage therapist (rmt) so I am learning a few things. What are some of the benefits?
️⃣Massage can decrease pain & can decrease the muscle testing tension
️⃣ Increase overall relaxation response which can decrease stress & anxiety.
️⃣ Promotes circulation & blood flow
️⃣ Decrease frequency of migraine attacks or headaches
➡️ But you must go on a regular basis. If you don’t go frequently there will be no benefit. You and your therapist will create a treatment plan that works for you and your body!
️⃣ There are so many more benefits!
➡️ I also talk about SELF CARE!!! This is something that your therapist will send you home with to ‘make the benefits of the treatment go further’ but it’s important you actually do them at home. If you slide left in my IG post you can see I’ve posted instructions to some examples of some hydrotherapy self care. These are great for headaches & migraine attacks. Obviously it’s not going to take it away but it may feel nice or be a good preventive if you do this every other night. I’ve also posted a few neck exercises along with my favorite neck pain products. I highly suggest if you have neck pain getting a lacrosse ball or even a tennis ball and go up against a wall with the ball and put in between your neck (see video on my IG post for details) If you have any questions or want more details on any of this information send me a DM on IG or drop a comment below!
