On this podcast Jonathan, Jeremiah, Jeff, and Blake take a deeper dive into Sunday's sermon, exploring its main points and some of the smaller details that got left out due to time. Monday Main Point is brought to you by Rose of Sharon Baptist Church -- rosbc.org
We are back at it this week discussing the most recent sermon brought by our church network mission strategist, Marty Childers. Marty preached from Luke 15:11-32 about the story of the lost son.....and his lost brother. This is a story that clearly proclaims the gospel and how good our God is to pursue a relationship with those who do not deserve Him. Many people can ask themselves which son they are most like, but the best question is how can we be more like the Father?! Jeff and Blake have tons of fun going through this story and hope that you enjoy our reflections on the sermon.

On this episode, Jeff and Blake discuss from Luke 9 where the disciples ask to call down fire on the Samarians. There are times in life where we wish that God would just call down fire on our enemies and people we do not like; however, the guys show why that is by far not the best course of action. We give practical advice for the believer to see how to manage non-ideal situations and people in a way that honors God.

In this passage, Paul described himself as one who had been like a nurturing mother to the church he planted and wrote about his love for them, along with how he shared his gospel and life with them. The guys continue to talk about how a mother has a crucial role to play in the spiritual formation of those around her. In addition, the discussion goes into practical ways that believers can nurture people while fulfilling the great commission.

Jeff and Blake are back at this week on a Wednesday to talk about dealing with difficult people. The sermon is based on 2 Timothy 2:24-26 where Paul encouraged Timothy in his last letter to him that a servant of the Lord must be able to deal with difficult people. The pastors encourage their folks to do the same as it is a given we will all encounter difficult people; how we handle them is where there should be a difference from the rest of the world! Listen to hear more about being a good witness for Christ Jesus and how you can deal with difficult people.

The gospel is clearly stated and the pastors leave encouragement to the believer who is finding it tough to stay on the path of righteousness. They also encourage those who may not yet follow Christ to look at Jesus in faith and live!

On this episode of the Monday Main Point Jeremiah, Jeff, Blake, and Katrina discuss the Sunday sermon which was titled, "A Message to All Nations," from Luke 24:44-49. The main thrust of the sermon by Jeff McCarthy was on Luke's version of the Great Commission which is more famously found in Matthew 28:18-20. Luke also has a version of the Great Commission found in Acts 1:8. Some of the questions and topics of discussion for this week are: Where do we find the Great Commission in the Old Testament? The importance of Luke 24:47 as a framework for the Church. Did God's plan of salvation always include "the nations?" What is the Spirit's work in evangelism? Practical application for having Gospel conversations. And, How can ROS exist for another 143 years?

Nick took his text from Ephesians 4.25-32, and offered 4 guidelines for believers to follow in order to have a witness that lasts. The pastors discuss how focusing on the grace of Christ can enable believers to live a life which reflects the gospel. Why do we not practice confessing sin to God and to one another? How can our unchecked anger harm our relationships with one another and with God? And why do a large percentage of both Gen Z and Millennials believer Christians are hypocrites?

On this episode of the Main Point Jonathan, Jeff, Blake, and our Minister of Congregational Care, Katrina Redman discuss Sunday's sermon on denying yourself. The text was from Luke 9.23-24, and the group talk about what Jesus meant with this "hard teaching." What does it mean to deny ourselves and is it a spiritual gift or a discipline? Is North-American Christianity compatible with the idea of self-denial, and if so, what does that look like? How can the idea of "actively dying" in our physical lives inform our understanding of what it means to die daily to self?

On this episode of the Monday Main Point Jeremiah, Jeff, and Blake had the privilege of discussing the exciting topic of baptism. The sermon from Sunday 8/14/22 was on Jesus' example and pattern for baptism which He gave to us in Matthew 3: 13-17. We had the privilege of being a part of a service where we witnessed 7 baptisms. So, the discussion began talking about all of that excitement, as well as discussing some of our pre-baptism process at ROS. We wanted to highlight how God is working in our midst, and how we have been blessed to see some of that work throughout the last few months. We then moved to a discussion of the sermon and how Jesus sets the example for us. Some of the specific questions we discuss are: What does it mean to be baptized by the Spirit? Does baptism save us? What is believers baptism? What is baptismal regeneration? How was the Trinity involved at Jesus' baptism? How does baptism proclaim the Gospel? What is the intended mode of baptism in the Bible? and How is baptism tied to church membership is SBC life?

On this episode of Monday Main Point Jonathan, Jeremiah, Blake, and Jeff are back together after a week of technical difficulties. They discuss a few points of interest from the sermon on July 24th from Nehemiah 8 as well as the July 31st sermon titled "Fulfill Your Ministry." Attempting to answer the question as to why the Israelites may have missed the Day of Atonement after they first returned from exile, they talk about the significance of the temple and how it points toward Jesus, whether or not the ark of the covenant was present after the Israelites' exile, and how we can be sure we don't miss the point in our own Bible studies. They then switch gears and discuss whether every Christian has a ministry, the difference between a ministry and a calling, and the role of the church in supporting and encouraging these ministries and callings.

On this episode of Monday Main Point Jonathan, Jeremiah, and Jeff are together to discuss Jeff's sermon from Habakkuk entitled, "The Burden of Violence." They talk about how a proper view of God and a proper view of man can help us better address the issue of why evil and violence is so prevalent in our world today, and what our response should be as Christians. Does the great amount of evil in the world mean that God doesn't care or isn't in control? What is our response when we feel God isn't hearing our prayers? And should we turn to government to fix the mess we see around us?

On this episode of Monday Main Point all four pastors (Jonathan, Jeremiah, Blake, and Jeff) are together to talk about the student testimonies from Student Life Camp. They discuss the "Unlikely" theme of camp derived from 1 Sam 16.7 as well as the missional emphasis of the students' testimonies. This leads to some interesting reflections on what is necessary for someone to respond to the gospel, how God reveals Himself to man, and how the church compares to industries in terms of reaching a global audience.

In this episode of the Main Point, Jonathan, Jeremiah, Jeff, and Blake answer questions submitted about Sunday's sermon from Revelation 20.11-21-8, entitled, "The End of the End." The message focused on what happens at the very end of the end times -- the Great White Throne judgment and the judgment seat of Christ -- and how our "goodness" neither guarantees Heaven nor helps us avoid Hell. The pastors answer whether or not near death experiences or personal testimonies of Heaven and Hell should be consulted as sources of knowledge, and they answer a question posed about whether there is evidence for the view that Christians will not be present at the Great White Throne judgment.

They also address why we drift away from God when we need his love and forgiveness most, why we have difficulty confessing our wrongs, and whether we can love Jesus with a true agape love.
