The title of today's sermon is "My Spirit Rejoices in God My Savior." These are the words of Mary, who talks about how deeply happy she is in knowing that she will eventually give birth to the Savior of the world. The scripture for today's sermon is Luke 1: 39-55. The writer of this story is Dr. Luke who shows an exquisite understanding of all, but especially of Mary and Elizabeth. These women are relatives and also great friends. They are distant in age, but both are pregnant. Elizabeth will eventually give birth to John the Baptist. Mary, of course, is pregnant with Jesus. We will see how the words of Mary relate to us and to our world today.
