This week we had the chance to play in a college-am event at the Royal Club before the Annika Invitational. We were paired with Mimi Rhodes, a senior golfer for the defending national champion Wake Forest Demon Deacons. We were blown away by the quality of play and will discuss this episode.
The Irish Open was at the K Club this week and Rory McIlroy was in the hunt before a disastrous triple bogey on hole 16 took him out of the running. Vincent Norrman took home the title and continued his great play late in the season.
Jeff had a fitting with Hunter Hoaglund at Go Low Golf here in the twin cities and will discuss the experience on this weeks episode.
With Luke Donalds captains picks today the Ryder Cup teams are set for Rome later this month. Ludvig Aberg won this week on the DP World Tour and made the team - and Mike knew it all along. Mike has been begging for Luke Donald to pick Aberg for months and the dream has finally become reality!
The podcast made our way up to the Brainerd lakes area this weekend for the Canadian Tour event at Craguns and we played the main courses in the area.
There will even be a little Walker Cup talk to end the podcast as the United States team cameback on Sunday to win at St. Andrews.
Jeff sat down for an interview with Daniel Gale. The Australian fired a 60 at 3M Monday qualifying, including a hole out for eagle on 18 to earn his way into the PGA Tour's 3M Open.
He recently won the NT PGA Championship in Australia. He will talk about his journey in golf and his plans for the future.
Viktor Hovland took the FedEx Cup title at Eastlake after battling Xander down the stretch (in the shadow event anyway) in Atlanta. We will give you our thoughts on the golf course and event itself.
Zach Johnson has picks are coming in today and the FedEx Cup more than likely didn't do much to sway his decision.
Who will the PGA Tour players vote as Player of the Year? Rahm? Scheffler? Hovland? We will talk their season resumes and more on this weeks episode of the Break80 Golf Podcast.

Viktor Hovland went absolutely insane on the back nine Sunday with a 28 at Olympia Fields to take the title at the BMW Championship. We try to comprehend this epic ball striking performance that everyone witnessed, as well as talking Scottie, Rory, Max Homa and more as we were on site at the BMW Championship where the cream really rose to the top this week on the PGA Tour for the 2nd playoff event of the FedEx Cup.
Of course we had to talk Ryder Cup again this week as Brooks Koepka fell out of the top six and will now need to rely on a captain's pick to make the U.S. team that heads to Italy next month.
While in the Chicagoland area we also played some golf in Michigan at Harbor Shores, Ravisloe Country Club south of Chicago, Kankakee Elks Country Club and Sentry World in Stevens Point, Wisconsin on our way back to the twin cities.
Lucas Glover kept rolling with a second consecutive win at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis. With this win he climbed in the FedEx playoff standings and into the Ryder Cup discussion. We will. be talking Glover to the Ryder Cup, the LAB putter and his sweaty pants situation.
Resort tournament season in Minnesota is over. Mike and Tim travelled to all 3 courses in Bemidji, Detroit Lakes and Alexandria. We will be discussing the golf courses and the tournaments.
The podcast is headed to the Chicagoland area for the BMW Championship. While there we will be playing some golf and having the Break80 major for the year.

Hometown event on the PGA Tour this week in Minnesota and we had official PGA Tour media credentials for the week. The credentials allowed us to get inside the ropes early in the week and access to interviews throughout the event. Take a listen to what we thought of the week.

Tim sat down with Will Davidson in Detroit at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Will has caddied on both the PGA and LPGA Tour's for multiple golfers and has some other side ventures, such as Birdie Brands that he is doing.
He is currently on the bag for Ryan Gerard on the PGA Tour.
Brian Harman scorched the field at Royal Liverpool to win his first major championship at the age of 36. Harman displayed relentless accuracy and an unbelievable putter to win by 6 strokes.
Discussion will center around our thoughts on the Royal Liverpool and links golf, some issues that arose and who played well and who did not this week at the Open Championship.
It is 3M Open week here in the twin cities and we will discuss what we are doing at TPC Twin Cities and talk about the players in the field for an event that now has some Ryder Cup implications.
The Open Championship returns to Royal Liverpool for the first time since 2014 when Rory McIlroy hoisted the Claret Jug. Can he do it again this year? Rory is heading into the Open coming off a win at the Scottish Open. We will discuss if this is a good thing for Rory or will add to the pressure.
Besides talking all things Scottish Open and Open Championship, Mike and Tim took a trip to Las Vegas and went over to Mesquite and St. George, Utah to play some golf. We will give you our thoughts on Wolf Creek, Sand Hollow, Black Desert and Cascata.
Jeff read a book this week on the mental side of the game and will give his thoughts on that and some tips the average golfer can take from it.
Women's golf took center stage this week as the USGA brought the U.S. Open to Pebble Beach for the first time. We will discuss the event and the state of women's golf and how the LPGA needs to find a superstar.
Mike and Tim headed to the Quad cities this week for the John Deere Classic. They will give their takeaways from hanging around the tournament and media area this week. While on the trip, they also had the opportunity to play the Davenport and Cedar Rapids Country Clubs and will give their take on these golden age courses.
Jeff gave tournament golf a go this week up in Cloquet. He will talk about the tournament and give his insight into how tournament golf went for him while playing in the 92nd annual Cloquet Invitational.
The podcast had official PGA Tour media credentials this week as Tim headed to Detroit for the Rocket Mortgage and got to witness Rickie Fowler come full circle and get back into the winners circle. He will have a full report from his trip to Detroit.
With Rickie climbing into the top 12 in the Ryder Cup standings, it is time to analyze what players are contenders to make both squads for this year's Ryder Cup in Italy.

It was qualifying week here in Minnesota and Mike has a horror story to tell about how qualifying went and we discuss tournament golf and how it is different from hacking it around with your buddies.
Jeff sits down with Will Frazier and Ben Warian to discuss high level college golf and playing in the "Longest Day in Golf" earlier this summer when they competed in U.S. Open sectional qualifying. They will be talking college and amateur golf, as well as their dreams in golf going forward.

Wyndham Clark held strong and Rory couldn't get anything going at Los Angeles Country Club during the final round of the 123rd U.S. Open. With this victory, Wyndham Clark gets his second big time win in a little over a month and vaults to number 13 in the OWGR. The podcast crew is especially excited for our guy John Ellis, who caddies for Wyndham and did a great job in helping him to victory.
We will talk about big moments for Wyndham, the saga of Rory trying to get his fifth major win, Scottie Scheffler again being in contention and the inevitable fall of Rickie Fowler. All of this and our thoughts on the venue for the U.S. Open.
We will have a unique take on pics for the Traveller's Championship and talk about the state of our games as we gear up for the Minnesota State Am qualifier.
After a thrilling Canadian Open that saw Nick Taylor make a 72 foot eagle putt on the fourth playoff hole to win over Tommy Fleetwood, it is off to Los Angeles for the U.S. Open at the Los Angeles Country Club.
We have boots on the ground at LACC on this episode as we are joined by John Ellis. John is Wyndham Clark's caddy and will give us some great insight into both the Los Angeles Country Club and how he and Wyndham are prepping for a major championship on a golf course that isn't very well known to many people.

Mike & Tim are joined by friends of the pod and fellow golf addicts Zach and Javi, who just so happen to also be lawyers. We will dig into the possible ramifications from a golf perspective and a legal perspective after this big news.
June 5, 2023 - dreams will be come true and hopes will be dashed on golf's longest day, sectional qualifying for the United States Open next week at Los Angeles Country Club. We had our eye on multiple former podcast guests and friends who were looking to punch their ticket to the U.S. Open. Friend of the pod, Frankie Capan III completed the dream and will be playing next week in LA.
Jack's course gave the best players in the world a real challenge as Viktor Hovland got his first "non-resort" PGA Tour win as he bested Denny McCarthy in a playoff. We will make a few observations about the tournament and the upcoming RBC Canadian Open.
Rose Zhang made her professional debut and was firing on all cylinders to win! Will she become the dominant force in the women's game? Does the LPGA need a dominant superstar? We will discuss these things as well as our own games on the podcast this week.

Brooks Koepka is back in the winners circle at a major championship but is this the biggest story of the tournament? As Brooks was busy doing what we are used to Brooks doing at major championships, another story was captivating the golf world - Michael Block.
The club pro from southern California turned in another captivating performance capped with a hole-in-one and two dramatic up and down par saves to finish in 15th place and earn an exemption back into next year's PGA Championship and $288,000. We will talk about how fun he was to watch and how much of a life changing weekend this was for him.
Brooks was back to his terminator like form in majors and we are here for it. What does this do for his image and standing in history? Will he make the Ryder Cup team? This win opened up so many questions about Brooks and LIV that we need to discuss.

The 2nd major of the year heads back to the famed Oak Hill East course, fresh off a renovation and ready to show its teeth to the best players in the world. Will Rahm keep the grand slam hopes alive? Will Jordan Spieth play? Does LIV finally break through with a major win? We will discuss all things Oak Hill and the PGA Championship and make our picks for the year's 2nd major.
After playing Highland National twice this weekend, the podcast has some work to do in their "quest to qualify" for the Minnesota State Amateur Championship. With about a month until the qualifier, scores are going to have to improve for any of us to have a chance at getting in, but it will be entertaining to say the least.

Podcast favorite Wyndham Clark played close to flawless golf this week at the Wells Fargo Championship to post -19 and cruise to his first PGA Tour win at Quail Hollow. The Break80 boys have seen this coming for a while with his stellar play and his caddie John Ellis made the prediction as we have in the intro back in February that his guy Wyndham would win this year. He chose a hell of an event to win and claim his first tour victory.
In a little worse than -19, Jeff and Tim kicked off the Twin Cities Golf mini tour at New Prague GC with a little match as we get going with our season finally hear in Minnesota, hear about that and some upcoming PGA Tour picks and thoughts about this week's AT&T Byron Nelson.
Tim travelled to Pinehurst last week to play at what has been dubbed the "mecca" of United States golf. He will give you some ups and downs from the trip and chronicle his run-ins with some over zealous rangers. Multiple travel tips will be told and Tim talks about playing the famed #2.

After Jordan Spieth barely missed 2 winning putts, Matt Fitzpatrick hit one of the greatest shots in Harbour Town history on the third playoff hole to capture the RBC Heritage title in the latest elevated event on the PGA Tour.
All the big names showed up (minus one giant name) on the leaderboard this week, proving once again that a tightly contested tournament with the best players in the world is must watch television.

Jon Rahm battled Augusta National and the elements en route to an easy victory in the end at the Masters. Rahm becomes the first European to win both the Masters and U.S. Open.
We will dive into Rahm's mastery of Augusta and discuss LIV golfers good showing, including Phil Mickelson coming out of nowhere to fire one of the best Sunday rounds Augusta National has seen.
Does Brooks Koepka have a Sunday problem in majors? After cruising through the first 42 holes of the tournament, Koepka struggled mightily Sunday in finishing the third round and throughout the final round. This has been an issue for him over the past 4 times he has been in contention on a Sunday of a major.
We will of course talk Tiger and the disappointment of Rory missing the cut and a bunch of other stuff Master's related.
The PGA Tour heads 130 miles to Hilton Head and Harbor Town for the RBC Heritage, which is an elevated event this year, so no rest for the stars of the PGA Tour - well, except for Rory that is. We will make some picks for this weeks event and talk about the uniqueness that is Harbor Town.
After talking about our quick golf trip to Tim's home state of Iowa, it will be all things Masters talk.
We will dig into story lines, favorites, the golf course and just all the things we love about the Master's Tournament and Augusta National.
With March Madness pumping out thrilling game after thrilling game and the Master's starting next week, this has to be the best sports time of the year right?
Even though this is a golf podcast, we love hoops as well and will talk some NCAA Tournament and give our thoughts so far on what has transpired and discuss if Caitlin Clark is the most exciting player in either of the tournaments.
Jeff may have found something in his game while on vacation in Florida and the pod may be heading to Iowa next weekend for some outdoor golf.
All this and we will actually talk plenty of golf and discuss our thoughts on the WGC Dell Championship and the end of match-play on the PGA Tour... for the time being anyway.

2nd year PGA Tour player Andrew Novak joins the podcast. In his 2nd year on tour, Andrew is close to cracking the top 100 in FedEx Cup points and has multiple top 20 finishes, including the Sony Open and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Andrew gave us some insight on his path to the PGA Tour, creating a yardage book for a senior high thesis and his basketball abilities.

The quest for better golf and qualifying for the Minnesota State Amateur Championship ramped up this week for Tim as he has all kinds of new weapons in the bag after getting fit for new irons and a driver. We will see how they work out as he is also going to Southern California this weekend to play some more top 100 public tracks.
The PGA Tour had a first time winner this week at the Valspar as Taylor Moore took home the title as contenders such as Jordan Spieth and Tommy Fleetwood faltered down the stretch. This week the top players in the world are headed to one of the Break80 Podcasts favorite events, the WGC Match Play. The match play is bidding farewell to the the Austin Country Club and it sounds like it will not return anywhere in the future.
We are also playing some PGA Tour bio trivia in this episode using players from the opposite field event in the Dominican Republic.

Pete will talk about the early days of amateurgolf.com and how he got started and grown to become an authority of amateur golf tournaments.
Scottie Scheffler took most of the drama out of Sunday at the Player's Championship, winning in dominating fashion to regain the top spot in the world golf rankings. We will discuss his play as well as what we thought about the 2023 Player's Championship.
The Valspar Championship is this week and we will preview the event and make our picks. Jeff and Tim will be quizzed on the world ranking of some random players in the field who you may or may not have heard of. We will also makes picks for this weeks DP World Tour event in South Africa.
With the "Quest to Qualify" coming up this summer, the crew will give our thoughts on what we are working on this week in preparation.
At the Minnesota Golf Show, we were joined on stage by Lift Bridge founder Dan Schwarz and Doug deGrood, the creator of Doogie McShank's vodka bootleg. Not only did these two talk about starting up their alcohol businesses, but we also snuck a little golf in as well.
The podcast crew also revealed our Dream 18 public golf course at the golf show. Each of us created a course based on what we thought was the best hole #1,2, etc. The kicker is, we could not use the same golf course twice, 18 holes and 18 different courses. Listen to hear what we came up with.
The podcast crew has officially signed up for the Minnesota State Am and we are on the "quest to qualify." That quest has led us to sim golf this week as we are still buried under snow in Minnesota and it is our only option in this never ending winter we are currently in.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational led to great drama this week at Bay Hill. Kurt Kitayama held off the top players in the world to get his first career PGA Tour victory. Bay Hill showed it's teeth again this year as the winning score was -9 and the course was a significant challenge for the best players in the world.
The eyes of the golf world are again on TPC Sawgrass this week as Pete Dye's masterpiece takes center stage. The "5th major" is a true test of golf and the players will be challenged to the max again this year at Sawgrass. The podcast will make our picks and give our takes on the Player's Championship.
On day 2 of the Minnesota Golf Show, we were joined by the man who has possibly done more for public golf in Minnesota than anyone, Kevin Unterreiner.
As the founder and president of TwinCitiesGolf.com, Kevin is the man behind such ideas like the Public Country Club, Hack to Jack and multiple simulator and outdoor golf events. He has been doing golf websites for 25 years and is always trying to innovate and promote public golf. We are lucky to have Kevin here in Minnesota.

With a less than stellar field the Honda Classic still managed to produce a great finish with come great story lines. Chris Kirk got back in the winner's circle for the first time in eight years after battles with depression and alcohol. After near collapse, he hit a spectacular wedge shot in the playoff to beat journey man professional Eric Cole.
LIV golf was back this week and things did not go to plan. The CW ratings were abysmal and their LIV contract showed a lot of hypocrisy from big name players like Phil Mickelson. We discuss some LIV issues and try to make sense of what they are doing currently.
With the Florida swing happening and Bay Hill this week on the schedule, Tim and Jeff will talk about their trip to Florida. For this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational, Tim will discuss Bay Hill.
The picks segment is back this week as we try to get back to our winning ways making picks for the PGA picks from both Bay Hill and Puerto Rico.

The Break80 podcast crew is thrilled to have John Ellis join the podcast today live at the Minnesota Golf Show. John is a caddie on the PGA Tour for Wyndham Clark, who is currently 56th is FedEx points and 120th in the world golf rankings.
Not only is John a current caddie on tour, he also has played in 10 PGA Tour events, 2 U.S. Opens and was the 2008 Canadian Tour player of the year. On top of his playing career, he also was a coach of the men's golf team at the University of Oregon.
John gave a great insight into professional golf and what it takes to make it on the PGA Tour or just to improve your game.

After playing a 1 club event at White Bear Yacht Club, we got the invite to play Northland Country Club in Duluth, which was of course too good to pass up. Northland lived up to its reputation as the views were spectacular and the golf course had a certain rugged sense to it that makes it very unique in Minnesota golf. The fellas headed down to Canal Park to take in the night life in Duluth after a hockey game and lived to tell about it.
On the way back to the twin cities, Mike & Tim make a stop in to play the Cloquet Country Club, which is a Ross/Vardon/Goldstrand design. Tim's ground force was too much for his spikes to handle as he blew out his shoes, but didn't blow up his score.
After taking a week off, the boys are back at it this week on episode 29 of the podcast.

Chaska native Clayton Kucera was on the bag for a buddy in a Korn Ferry pre-qualifying event in Nebraska that took the golf world by storm last week over one of the most bizarre cheating scandals you will ever hear about. Clayton will walk us through what unfolded as he was caddying in the group that ended up in the eventual disqualification of one of the competitors.
LIV golf was back this week in Boston. With an improved field and a solid golf course, LIV golf turned out its best event yet. Dustin Johnson hammered in an eagle putt on the first playoff hole to secure the win as the Aces won the team competition for the third straight event. We will give our thoughts on LIV golfs improvements and some things they need to work on still.
Jeff and Tim travelled to Brainerd to play the newly redesigned Cragun's championship golf course and the Gravel Pit, a new par 3 course in the Brainerd lakes area. They will give their thoughts and insight on these two central Minnesota golf courses.

What a week for the Break80 podcast at the 3M Open.
We started the week with a preview podcast at the 3M Open on Wednesday and then ended up caddying for the Foreplay Podcast fellas from Barstool, with Brock Nelson of NHL fame and professionals Sam Ryder and Callum Terran. We will go into how that round went as the Foreplay squad caught fire on the back 9 for a high finish.
Tony Finau surged and Scott Piercy had an epic collapse at the 3M, which was full of twists and turns on the back 9. Eventually, with a little luck on 17, Tony Finau emerged victorious. Our friend of the podcast from the pro-am, Callum Terran fired a 63 on Friday and a back 9 31 on Sunday to vault into the top 10 as he looks to lock up his tour card for next year.
We make our picks for the Rocket Mortgage and the LIV event this week as Tim closed the gap a bit last week when both Jeff & Mike's picks missed the cut at the TPC Twin Cities.

Scottie Scheffler puts an emphatic stamp on his world #1 ranking with a dominant win this week at Augusta National. Rory thrilled the patrons and showed why we are enamored with his talent. Even with Scheffler winning, the week was all about Tiger. After a great first round 71, he struggled the rest of the week, but it sounds like he plans on playing some big events going forward.

Augusta National got the best of the field today with only 9 players shooting under par. Not to be deterred by the cold and wind, Cam Smith fired a 68 to put a little heat on Scottie Scheffler whose 71 today leaves him with a 3 shot lead heading into Sunday's final round. Tiger had major struggles with Augusta's greens today in route to his highest round at the Masters with a 78.
After firing a 67 on blustery day at Augusta National, Scottie Scheffler takes a commanding 5 stroke lead into the weekend. A packed leaderboard would lead to high drama on the weekend if not for the red hot Scheffler who is blowing away the field. Tiger showed his grit again after a brutal start by making multiple birdies in the middle of the round to finish at +1 in T19 after 36 holes. Speaking of brutal, some big names are heading home before the weekend including Jordan Spieth, Brooks Koepka and Bryson Dechambeau, who failed to break 80 in round 2.
Day 1 recap: Hello Friends! It was the return of the GOAT at Augusta National. Tiger fires 71 to show the field that he will have a say in this tournament.
