At Thriving in The Word we believe in a slower study of scripture. Sure you can cook a steak in the microwave, but would you want to eat it. It’s much better slow cooked, and that’s how we take our Bible study. We study the Bible, book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, and at times even word by word.

According to Webster Dictionary, Stockholm Syndrome is the psychological tendency of a hostage to bond with, identify with, or sympathize with his or her captor.
Paul wasn't a prisoner. After his encounter on the road to Damascus, Saul the hunter of the those who follow Jesus, began a road of servitude to Christ. He would form a bond, to identify with, and sympathized with his former prey. He wasn't forced to be there, nobody held him down, not until he was arrested later anyways. One of many, even to this day and beyond who once was against Christ, who now are for Him. Almost like Reverse Stockholm Syndrome.

How long does it take to form a habit? Jesus had a habit of alone time with His Heavenly Father. As a church we like to promote the 5-5-5 challenge, 5 minutes of reading scripture, 5 minutes of prayer, and 5 minutes of silence listening for the voice of God. But for some 1-1-1 might be the place to start. Just getting into the habit of everyday at a certain time, turning to the Bible. Turning to Scripture. Turning to His Word. When you hear rumor of a great revolutionary King is coming, how do you expect him to arrive? Possibly in a parade of cars, surrounded by guards, maybe even military. When Jesus went into Jerusalem, he rode in on a donkey. A lonely animal, and certainly not the steed he was expected on. He didn’t match their expectations. How often do we let our unrealistic expectations cloud our ability to see who people truly are.

Where is the kingdom of God? Is it only seen after your physical death? Is it in the halls and pews of your local church building? Or is it in the people of the body of Christ? We are ambassadors of Heaven. So where we are we should treat those with the customs of love we learn from the King of our homeland.

Throughout time, people have doubted scripture even when the evidence is right before their eyes. How many of the people Jesus fed were cheering for his crucifixion? We must share and spread His word and how He saved us. We are to serve and love others. We are to not ask what the church can do for us, but ask instead what can we do for our church.

If you do well with the small things, God will give you the big things. If you are willing to overlook the small details, why would you be trusted with the big ones? God wants us to do everything as if we are doing it for Him. And if it's for the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, God Almighty, then it should be as close to perfect as we can get it. In both the small things, and in the big.

The first lesson many of us learn is how to share. Sharing is caring is the slogan you might have learned. But why do we need to learn to share? Shouldn't it be part of us from birth? No it's not. We are inherently selfish. Now that you learned about sharing, share this podcast with a friend.

While driving, someone passes by you going dangerously fast. A little while later you see that same car but they had an accident. "Well they had that coming with how fast they were going." Might have crossed your mind. Using some local news, Jesus illustrates that nobody is any better than anyone else. We are not the judge of whether or not someone deserves something, for every time someone gets their just deserts, a "Good person" who "Didn't deserve it" also is hurt or loses their life. Only God judges who is bearing fruit and who is to be tossed away.

Treat your neighbor as yourself. But who is your neighbor? Is it the members of your bible study? Is it your co-workers? Is it the guy who lives in the next apartment? Who is your neighbor? Jesus answers this question by way of a parable. Through it we see that it's not always who you expect playing the good guy. Sometimes it can be you.

To truly be forgiven. We all want it. To feel the peace that comes when we feel the Lord presence and know it is well with our souls. But are we willing to offer that same forgiveness to others. To those who sin against us. This discussion doesn't even get to the Lord's (or Disciple's) Prayer and we are already hitting on it's points.

Who truly knows a person's heart? What motivates you to do good? Is it because you love your fellow man or are you trying to balance the cosmic scales? When Jesus was crucified, there was a man on the cross next to him, who repented to Jesus and was told "Today you will join me in paradise". We play what if, and go into this moral quandary looking not only at actions but motives. You can't tie the game if you don't know the score.

We are taking a bit of a summer break. Here's some bonus discussions. We talk some more about science, then how we are stewards of the Earth and then Judah talks about secret airports.
Featuring Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, Lenny Salgado, and Johnny V
Jesus used parables to show a point, to give insight into what God is looking for from us. He tried to take to make it simple and would talk to his audience. Which led sometimes to His disciples, his closest followers to wonder, "What did He mean by that?".
This discussion features Judah Thomas, Ben Cossette, and David LaManna
Two clips. First our reaction to protesters when the draft was leaked months ago. Then our reactions to the overturning and our thoughts on why there's a divide and what might happen next. The second discussion was recorded this morning if you are listening on June 28th. These bonus discussions feature Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette and Johnny V
When Jesus ate at the house of a Pharisee named Simon, He was greeted by a woman who would not stop kissing His feet. How we like to think we are that woman. And some of us, we were that woman. Thanking Him with our tears for saving us. But as time goes on, how many of us go from being that woman to becoming Simon. Judging others, even those who are currently, what we once were.
This weeks discussion features Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette and Johnny V
We think we do such important work everyday. But is it really? Compared to the mission put forth by Jesus, is what you do really that important? Even after seeing the holy trinity manifest in front of his very eyes, John The Baptist still had doubts.
This discussion features Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, and Johnny V
Jesus caused waves everywhere He went. He healed the sick, He mended the broken, He raised the dead. Of course word of His deeds would travel faster than any man could on foot.
This week's discussion features Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, and Johnny V
Falling behind in editing. We have stuff recorded it just not ready for you yet. Meanwhile here's some bonus discussions taken during the weeks we covered Luke 1-6.
A collection of a couple clips, starting with a blooper. What are the signs you notice when you age. Judah talks about being married and also being in ministry. And Ben brings up the riots in China.
Featuring Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, Lenny Salgado, and Johnny V
It's real if you go to him. Depression, drug use, and suicide are talked about in this week's episode. Listener discretion is advised.
This week's discussion features Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, Lenny Salgado, and Johnny V
Jesus would regularly go off and pray alone, sometimes praying all night. Michael Jordan, arguably the greatest player ever in basketball got there through doing extra hours before and after game time. To an outsider he's just playing a game, but to Jordan he was working. To an outsider we are just praying but in fact we are working on our understanding of God and being more of what He knows we truly are.
This weeks discussion features Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, and Johnny V
Jesus had many disciples but only 12 apostles. When He it came time to choose, He first prayed all night to His heavenly Father. When have any of us ever just prayed all night? Woe to you in the VIP section.
This weeks discussion features Judah Thomas, Ben Cossette, Lenny Salgado, and Johnny V
Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath. God works on the Sabbath and Jesus healed on the Sabbath, in front of everyone. Including the Pharisees who were more upset Jesus healed on the Sabbath instead of seeing the miracle he had done.
This weeks discussion features Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, Lenny Salgado, and Johnny V
Are you walking around in the confidence that Jesus wins? We know the end of the story.
This weeks discussion features Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Lenny Salgado, and Johnny V
The specter of a dove came upon Jesus when He was baptized. Or was it an actual dove, that later made a nest? Even corrupt tax collectors came to be baptized and listen to John the Baptist. And what does it mean to be a fisher of men?
This weeks discussion features Judah Thomas, Ben Cossette, Lenny Salgado, and David LaManna
The lineage of Jesus is given in 3 gospels. Why is the one in Luke unique in comparison? Judah has a theory why. This episode could start a few arguments.
This weeks discussion features Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, Lenny Salgado, and Johnny V
Mary and Joseph lost Jesus on the way back from Passover and didn't notice for 3 days? If we asked people on the street who Pilate was, would they knew? How about Jesus? Would they really know who He was? All these questions are explored and more as we continue our study in Luke chapters 1-6.
Featuring Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, Lenny Salgado, and Johnny Vaina
Pregnant with Jesus, with how the world then treated women in general never mind an unwed expecting mother, you would think Mary would have been terrified. But she was not. She sang a song of Joy.
Featuring Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, Lenny Salgado, and Johnny Vaina
Why was this book written? Who is Luke? Why would he write about Jesus? This week we look into these questions in our longest discussions yet.
Discussion features Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, Lenny Salgado, and Johnny Vaina
We close out the minor prophets this week.
Featuring Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, Lenny Salgado, and Johnny Vaina
When you give do you give your best or just the rest? Tithing 10% for some is a great sacrifice, for others it's barely anything. God wants your best so He can give you something better. But he wants it from a cheerful heart, not out of obligation. This week we discuss the spirit of giving through our study of the Book of Malachi.
This weeks discussion features Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, Lenny Salgado, Johnny Vaina, and Mark Dorais
This week we continue our study of Zechariah chapters 1-7. We also introduce our new audio recording gear.
This weeks discussion features Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, and Lenny Salgado

Sometimes we hit record early and capture a discussion about an array of topics.
Here we talk about what is the motivation behind the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. I know it's not too timely anymore but it offers insight into our overall thoughts on the current state of the government.
Sometimes we hit record early and you never know what might come up.
Is our country going down the wrong path or are we doing alright? We discuss that in this Bonus cut.
We hit record early sometimes while waiting for everyone to arrive and who knows what topics might come up.
We go into a discussion of the dangers of addiction. What it really feels like to be addicted and the motivations that drive an addict.
Our second discussion about Habakkuk deals with pride, righteousness and the mercy of God
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Ben Cossette, Johnny Vaina, and David LaManna
Join us as we jump into the book of Habakkuk and discuss the things that stand out to us.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, Johnny Vaina, and David LaManna
We love to be around powerful people who have our back and keep us safe. God is a God of love but He is also a God of power!
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, Johnny Vaina, and David LaManna
We are beginning our discussion of the book of Nahum and through it the topic of abortion comes up. So many people get deceived by various opinions and fail to discover what God’s word says about these topics.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, Johnny Vaina, and David LaManna
How can we determine when Scripture is to be taken literal and when should we take it figuratively? God’s anger is like wasabi?? Even though God does get angry, His anger won’t last long if we repent and turn back to Him.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, Johnny Vaina, and David LaManna
Are we listening to what God is telling us? We may be hearing but are we listening? What is God looking for? Everyone wants to know, but He tells us clearly in the book of Micah.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, Johnny Vaina, and David LaManna
So many people identify with a brand of theology rather than Scripture itself. We need to read Scripture with fresh eyes.
Why does money and ministry get so weird?
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, Johnny Vaina, and David LaManna
Why would Jonah deliberately disobey God? Why was he so emotional and even suicidal about this mission? Are there ever things in our life that we don’t want to obey?
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, Johnny Vaina, and David LaManna
God cares about even the animals so how much more does He care for People? If we are left to our own devices we won’t repent. But when we see the truth of God it inspires repentance.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, Johnny Vaina, and David LaManna
This book is different than the other Minor Prophets. Most of the Minor Prophets show the prophet as good and the people as evil. But this book shows the prophet as bad and the people are repentant. Jonah believed God’s Word but he wanted to manipulate God. Jonah would rather die than go and obey God.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, Johnny Vaina, and David LaManna
Even though Israel made mistakes God gave them a promise of restoration. From the beginning of time God was all about restoration.
The Israelites had been deceived by their own pride. It’s one thing to be deceived by someone else, but it’s another thing to deceive ourselves.
God spared Israel from calamity because Amos stood in the gap and asked God not to.
What’s the best Bible translation for you to read?
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, Johnny Vaina, and David LaManna
Are we living our lives for show and pretense? So many people are trying to maintain the image of following Jesus rather than actually following Him. We are called to come out of the world to represent Christ. So many people want a word from God but when they get it they disregard it and rationalize it away.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, Johnny Vaina, David LaManna, Jeff Judd, and Dave McDougal
Sometimes we are afraid of the big sins and we pay attention to them. But often times it’s the small ones that trip us up.
Small locusts in great quantities can bring massive destruction God will restore all the consequences of sin if we repent.
God is waiting for us to turn back to Him, no matter what you’ve done. Turn to God while there’s still time.
As long as you have breath there is still time.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, Johnny Vaina, and Dave McDougal
Christians always say “hate the sin but love the sinner” because we know that God calls us to hate sin. It’s easy to hate the sin in someone else. More importantly do we hate the sin inside of us?
Joel predicted God pouring out His spirit on all people long before it actually happened. At that time most prophecies were focused on the Jews, but this prophecy reached into the future to us.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, David Lamana, and Jeff Judd
The first step of drawing near to God begins with us. If you feel far from God, you’re the one who has moved away.
So many people have traded God for the government. Many are far more concerned about their government ideals than about pleasing God. This is nothing new… civilizations have been doing this for thousands of years.
As our country battles down a path of atheism and emperor worship we need to stay focused on standing strong for God. So many people are so concerned with being on the “right” side of history. But are they interested in being on God’s side of history?
Without God’s Word being a lamp to your feet and a light to your path you will be lead astray.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, David Lamana, and Jeff Judd
Do we praise God because He is good or because He does things for us?
God wants to plow up the hard ground of our heart. Now is the time to seek the Lord. Are we letting God break up the hard parts of our lives?
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, and Johnny V
Why do we disregard God when He has done so much for us?
Do we ever act as if God’s Words don’t apply to us? Always wishing someone else would apply God’s Word but not applying it ourselves?
Most people demonstrate that their values and their actions do not align.
Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, and David LaManna
We are much like a diamond in the rough. The master will chip away, shape and polish it. They don’t do this to destroy it but to make it more beautiful and add value.
Surface repentance is not enough. We need to get broken down so that God can bring real restoration.
If God kept a record of our sins, who could ever survive?
Do we ever look to other things for our help rather than looking to God?
Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, David Lamana, and Jeff Judd
It’s one thing for us to not know God. But it’s an entirely different thing to choose to not know God.
So many people say “if my life’s doesn’t line up with Scripture, I’m doing to redefine Scripture.”
Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, David Lamana, Johnny Vaina, and Jeff Judd
Everyone wants to be a prophet but not everyone wants to marry a hooker!
What idols are we allowing to stand in our life? What things displease God but we aren’t willing to remove?
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, David LaManna, and Johnny V
This recording was started in mid thought. Judah started by saying he likes to read the Bible as if he just discovered it, as if no one has ever read it before. It started a conversation about preconceived notions we might have due to the teachings of others.
Can you get an understanding of the Bible from a book written by a famous pastor? Well it might give you some insight or a different perspective, but is it God's perspective? Can the words of another give you something that God's Word and the Holy Spirit couldn't give you?
Is there a Fast Pass to heaven?
This bonus discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, Johnny Vaina, and David LaManna
We live in a world that says they go by the science. But what is science?
Does a scientist’s beliefs interfere with their findings? Would it for you?
We discuss a lot of controversial subjects including climate control and abortion.
This bonus discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, and David LaManna
In this final episode of John we discuss Pilate and his role in the execution of Jesus. All of his soldiers were mysteriously knocked to the ground by just a few words of this man.
Then we chat about disciple’s choice to go fishing and how Jesus showed up to them and commissioned them to once again follow Him.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, Jeff Judd and David LaManna
Jesus prayed that His followers would be in unity. He wasn’t praying for uniformity but unity. How unified is the Body of Christ in this world today?
People often unite around their brand of theology but allow it to cause division with other believers who follow Jesus.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, and David LaManna
It is possible to fulfill the Will of God and still have a choice.
In this episode we are discussing the contrast of Judas and Peter after they both betrayed Jesus.
Even though Judas betrays Jesus he would have still been forgiven if he had asked for it.
We see that Peter took a totally different approach after failing Jesus.
Although Peter was a pillar of the Church, he was a cracked pillar.
The story of the Bible is that we will all sin, but God makes a way.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Johnny Vaina, and David LaManna
Jesus said that He cuts off any branch that does not product fruit. If we want to product fruit we must remain rooted abs connected to Jesus.
We need to prune the things in our live that are not drawing us closer to God. At some point we have to decide if we would rather move closer to God or hold onto the things in life that are holding us back.
It is important for us to stay connected to God by not only being in God’s Word but obeying His Word.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, and David LaManna
No matter how many miracles or evidence Jesus gave to His followers they always wanted more!
Was Jesus being arrogant when He said that He is the only way to God?
Can you call yourself a follower of Christ if you don’t show love to the people you dislike the most?
Jesus is saying the love you show for others will be the identifying factor that shows the world that we follow Him.
What does love require of us?
How does showing love relate to the death penalty and assisted suicide?
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, and David LaManna
Jesus was not in a hurry to be anywhere.
Let’s go and die with Jesus. The “doubting” Thomas was the first to speak up and say “let’s do this.” Was Thomas being sarcastic or was he legitimately willing to go and die?
Why was Jesus angry at the death of Lazarus? We know Jesus wept, but was it because He was sad or was it because He was angry? Is Jesus ever ticked off at our lack of faith?
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, David LaManna, and Jeff Judd
Jesus always had mercy for sinners but couldn’t stand hypocrisy.
Jesus forgives accepts and loves and then challenges us to right living.
Do we ever love mercy when we find ourself in the place of the dinner but take the role of Pharisee when someone else is the sinner?
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, and David LaManna
Jesus was building a kingdom that was unseen. He was always sneaking away to be alone with His Farher.
The people wanted the bread but they didn’t want the Bread of Life. Jesus has enough for everyone.
If you eat my flesh you can be my follower. This was tough stuff and caused many of His disciples to turn away
What does God want from you? To believe in Jesus Christ.
Everyone wants to see a miracle, but miracles have a short lifespan. People forget them so fast. People ask for the miracle, get the miracle and then turn around and forget the miracle.
Is Jesus still worth following even if you don’t get a miracle.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, and David LaManna
There is power in words. Jesus is the Word and a master of words.
God can even used unqualified people to make a huge difference in this world.
There would not be women’s rights as we know them if it was not for Jesus.
Jesus says that He is the way, but isn’t that to exclusive?? How can He claim this?
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, and David LaManna
The first miracle Jesus performed was at a wedding in Cana. He turned water into wine. Jesus initially didn't even want to do this, but His mom knew He had the potential to make things right.
How often are we looking for the miracle rather than the Messiah? The signs or the Savior
Do I keep following Jesus if I don’t get the miracle I want?
Do we have the ability to spend even 5 minutes in prayer without asking for something?
Do we ever take time to just spend time with God? No agenda. No requests. Just spending time with Him.
This week’s discussion features Judah Thomas, Lenny Salgado, Ben Cossette, and David LaManna
What significance did John the Baptist play in the coming of the Messiah?
When Jesus came to set the captives where were they? And where did they go?
If we sow something worthless like checking social media every day...how worthless do we think God’s Word is?
There is no such thing as a second generation Christian
