Have you ever felt like God called you to share your message but you’re not sure you have what it takes to write a book?

My guest today, Susan Vanderpol, author of Life After Breath, didn't set out to be an author. Susan and I connected on PodMatch and I couldn’t wait for her to share how God opened door after door, and how every setback turned out to be exactly what her message needed.

We often talk about marketing your book before it's published but what does that really look like? Especially on a podcast?

That’s the question we’re answering today with my special guest, Billie Jauss. Billie is the author of several books including Baseball Family: Nine Core Qualities for Developing Healthy Relationships, and she also hosts The Family Room podcast. Billie is married to a professional baseball coach and has three adult sons also employed in the sport. Needless to say this girl knows a lot about baseball and family.

This is Billie’s first time as a guest but you may be familiar with her name as I shared tips from her as a podcast host on episodes 124 and 100 because she is so generous and full of wisdom!

You know that feeling that there's too much to do to market your book and not enough time to do it? We can get so overwhelmed by all our ideas and start spinning our wheels on all the things yet get nowhere near achieving our marketing goals.

Today I’m re-airing an interview from my very first podcast guest, my friend and amazing accountability coach, Christa Hutchins. Christa shares how to:

  • Capture and prioritize all your marketing ideas
  • Evaluate your ideas against your pain points that keep you from marketing your book
  • Create an actionable marketing plan customized to the resources you have
  • Shelf the ideas that don’t fit on your plan right now (so you can easily find them later)
  • Stay accountable to doing what you planned to do
  • Begin outsourcing marketing tasks to a VA

Hey authors, ever have these thoughts about marketing your books?

My message doesn’t matter.
It has to be perfect.
I’m so not worthy.
It’s going to fail.
I’ll never do it as good as she does it.
It’s all out of my control anyway.

Oh goodness, marketing doesn’t come easy for any of us and we all approach it differently.

That’s why I invited my friend, Amy Wicks, to be my guest on the podcast. Amy is a faith-based Enneagram Coach, the author of two books including Should Christians Use the Enneagram? and host of the Simply Wholehearted Podcast.

Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms for authors to hang out on these days. But what if you don’t like recording the types of videos that Instagram is prioritizing these days?

What about posting pictures in the feed? What about Stories?

How do I engage with my current readers and find new ones?

You have questions. My guest, Ruthie Gray, has answers.

Ruthie is an online marketing coach for female entrepreneurs and host of the Authentic Online Marketing Podcast. She specializes in teaching relational marketing, specifically how to do it best on Instagram.

Ruthie shares all about:

  • connecting authentically with your “ideal” followers (readers and book buyers)
  • Balancing between posting and engaging
  • Ideas for what to post other than “buy my book”
  • Writing attention-grabbing captions in your posts
  • How to use hashtags effectively both in your posts and to find new readers
  • How to engage with podcast hosts on Instagram before sending a guest pitch
  • Her client success stories of using Instagram to market their books
  • Her new Reels training to help you get started with what’s working best right now

Hey nonfiction authors, this podcast is for you to learn and share what’s working now to meet new readers, market your message, and make a bigger impact online.

I’m your host, Kim Stewart, a marketing strategist for authors. Join me every other Thursday as I share both solo episodes, and interviews with my friends to share their book marketing experiences with you.

You’ll hear from my go-to experts to teach you the latest and greatest strategies to help you market your message online.

You’ll also hear from nonfiction authors sharing their “been there done that” stories about what’s worked best for them to meet new readers and what they wish they had known before marketing their books.

And for those of you who put your faith first as an author, you’ll hear from friends who are mentors and coaches to help us keep our eyes on Jesus when marketing the message He gave us.
