A teacher at Canton Area High School has spearheaded an effort to provide donated hygiene products to students, called The Comfort Closet. Students who want to feel clean and confident before, during, or after the school day, are provided anything they might need; from deodorant and body wash, to laundry detergent and bath towels from the Closet supply. Mrs. Kalyn Essick, English teacher at Canton, wants to inspire the community to help stock the Closet this year as well as inspire teachers at other schools to start their own Comfort Closet.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and Dr. Rebecca Jordan, breast surgeon and oncologist at Geisinger Medical Center, talks about the advances in detection and treatment of breast cancer and will discuss the process a person who is given a breast cancer diagnosis may be going through.
So this episode is about songs that were #1 hits in the 70’s and then were remade in the 80’s by other artists. In a few cases, the remake had just as much success as the original, but most failed to do anywhere near as good as the original. Being as the 70’s can be thought of as the decade of the singer/songwriter, it kind of makes sense for artists of the 80’s to re-record some of these classics.

"Words of Warriors: A Message from Combat Veterans" is a FREE show Sunday, October 23rd at the Community Arts Center. Local Veterans tell their story of before during and after the combat experience. There is a video presentation by Box of Light, performances by the Repasz Band and guest speakers, as well as a reception for veterans and their families to follow. Williamsport Vet Center Director, June Moser describes the process of making “Words of Warriors” and how the courageous veterans wanted to share their combat experiences with those of us who might not understand otherwise.

In 1982, Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak created the "US Festival." Billed as the biggest thing since Woodstock, Wozniak staged a three-day concert in the mountains of San Bernardino County, in Southern California, that featured some of the day's biggest names in music including The Police, The Cars, Pat Benatar, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Fleetwood Mac, the Grateful Dead and more. The "US Festival" kicked off under scorching conditions on September 3, 1982.
