Focusing on international True Crime, Pauli and João share stories over a bottle of wine. Join them for a light-hearted chat about some rather dark and twisted events.
We tried. We really did.
With the pod really starting to find it's wings now, listeners have joined us for conversations about severed heads in the freezer, cult massacres, a husband cooked up in a stew, sneaky poisonings and a whole bunch of other bizarre and sickening crimes. So we thought hey, there's an opportunity to try something a little different.
So before going away to prepare for this episode, Paulina and João agreed on a slightly different approach, they settled on the working title of "Survived". Each host would come back with a case that touches on a story of survival ..of some kind. Producer Matty (who still thinks that he isn't even really a true crime nerd) secretly thought that this might be a somewhat lighter episode, maybe something with a happy ending? ..he wasn't expecting a Disney story or anything.
There is no Disney story here guys.
Joopy is up first. He puts forward the personal stories of two women to highlight a global issue that runs rampant to this day — Human Trafficking. Pauli follows that up with the case of Josef Fritzl, a man who subjected his own flesh and blood to sexual slavery.
Sadly, our "survived" theme has again inspired more discussion around just how incredibly cruel human beings can be to one another. But it must be said that the resilience and will to survive the most nightmarish of ordeals, as these victims have gone through, is truly astonishing here.

Happy Halloween.
Paulina and João, decide not to go trick-or-treating and instead they are staying in to treat us all to a creepy new episode of Blood In My Wine.
Pauli details the sad and senseless murder of a young woman as she headed out to enjoy her Halloween night.
João takes things to the next level as he details the mass murder that took place in a family home ..and the many strange happenings that continued at that house long after.

Hey so. Cults are bad.
Especially the cults that persuade you to cut off ties with your family and friends, give up all your possessions, move to remote parts of the world and have your mental and physical wellbeing placed solely in the hands of one dangerously unhinged and delusional megalomaniac.
We here at Blood In My Wine wouldn't recommend that you join a cult anytime soon - maybe a FitnessFirst if you must - but remember they all start out seemingly innocent enough.
Still on the fence ? Have a listen to Paulina and João discussing the goings on of two infamous cults. Joopy recaps the last days of The People's Temple, better remembered as the Jonestown Massacre. Pauli follows that up with the self-proclaimed prophet, part time Surgeon (and full time monster) who founded The Ant Hill Kids.
Cults are bad. Wine is okay though :)

We might just have to call this one Blood in the Piña coladas. After a short hiatus, Paulina and João are back behind the mics to discuss a number of awful deaths that have played out at seemingly blissful holiday destinations.
Pauli tells of spooky (almost Blair witch vibe) photos recovered from a digital camera in the jungles of Panama and the unfortunate and mysterious events around them.
João highlights a string of suspicious deaths along the palm-fringed beaches of infamous Koh Tao - the small island in the Gulf of Thailand that has been dubbed "The Murder Island".

Shout out to Scarlet R for her outstanding blog post that we came across while preparing for this episode. Check it out!

Consider yourself warned, Paulina and João are serving up a particularly nasty batch of True Crime on this one.
João discusses the story of Myra Hindley and The Moors Murders - a series of senseless crimes which robbed five young children of their lives.
And if you think you've got the stomach for more, Paulina follows up with The Butcher of Aberdeen - a case guaranteed to put you off your food for a week.

João is missing! (gasp!!) No doubt he offended a serial killer or two on a previous pod and is now chained up in a basement somewhere being tortured. But don't worry ..he likes that sort of thing (and he will be back co-hosting the very next episode)
Pauli holds down the show with a mind-blowing case about a cold blooded Phantom Killer that police spent 16 years trying to track down.
Then Matt (who was really only there for the wine) tells the story of Michael Malloy, the whiskey-powered superhuman who defied many a death and knocked back many a whiskey shot.
Cheers.

Pauli and João do Japan.
With more dismemberment than a Kill Bill movie, João hits us with the case of The Twitter Killer.
Pauli then goes on to explain that, contrary to popular belief, there are in fact many different types of Japanese toilets – some have heated seats, some have water fountains, some have dead bodies in them, some play music, etc..
Arigato Gozaimasu!

Kicking things off with a 'Homeland' theme for their very first episode together, Pauli and João each present a case from their respective home countries.
From Germany, Pauli swaps her beer and oversized pretzel for a nice glass of red as she tells the story of kooky ol' Klaus, a.k.a. The Lunch Box Killer.
João takes time out from his intensive Capoeira training to share the tale of two Brazilian teenage lovers and their half-baked yet shocking plan for more kissy-kissy
..and less parents-parents.
