The Empire Boxing Podcast hosted by boxer, coach and creator, Coach J, features interviews with pro boxers, trainers, managers and others in the boxing world. Our guests open up about their boxing journey, their training methods and what motivates them to step in the ring.
On this episode of the Empire Boxing Podcast two leaders in Vancouver's Combat Sport Strength and Conditioning industry, Harry Davis and Geoff Chiu, join Coach J. Both men have travelled the world in their pursuit of knowledge that they can pass on through their teaching.
Geoff, who works with Quinit Boxing's high performance team out of their gym in East Vancouver, combines a deep understanding of the field with his educational background to develop technical programs to help elite boxers improve their skill set. In addition to boxing Geoff is an avid Muay Thai enthusiast. Harry Davis has a background in high lining, rugby, gymnastics and MMA, these diverse interests and the skills he's learned through them, in addition to his education, helps him bring a unique perspective to S&C work with his athletes. He's currently an active competitor and coach in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu working with athletes to help them increase strength to make them more resilient to injury. EP. 06 The Empire Boxing Podcast is back with Kingston, Ontario’s very own, Javon Blackstock. On this episode of The Empire Boxing Podcast, host Jana Finkbiner is joined in studio by Artem Lypko, an up and coming boxer making his professional debut in July as a part of Empire’s RELOADED card. Artem is a native of Minsk, Belarus and now makes Vancouver, Canada his home where he trains at Beyond Boxing in North Burnaby with coach and manager Louis Sargeant, a former professional boxer himself… and someone with a lot of stories to tell. Artem started boxing at the age of 11 and quickly became part of the Belarus national team where he competed in numerous international competitions and won a Bronze medal at the European Championships. He is coming off an amateur career where he honed his skills by competing in over 35 bouts. Artem explains how tough the elite amateur system is in Belarus and how it helped mold him into the fighter he is today. He dives into his training methods, his thought process and how he is preparing for his first pro fight. You won’t want to miss this one as Louis keeps things warm while Jana tries to break through Artem’s stoic exterior in hopes of maybe getting a hug by the time the show is over. Spoiler Alert: She gets one. These two guests make an entertaining pair, so sit back, grab a drink and enjoy a little slice of boxing story-teling at its finest. On this episode The Viloria brothers, Terrence snd Michael, join Host Jana Finkbiner on location in Vancouver to chop it up about their boxing journey. The brothers were born in the Philippines and grew up participating in martial arts. When they immigrated to Canada they linked up with coach O'Neal Mendoza of Mendoza Boxing Club and ventured out on their path into competitive combat sports. Both brothers competed in kickboxing and quickly realized they were gifted with their hands. The brothers then cut their teeth in the local amateur boxing scene and are both making their pro debut on Empire Boxing's card on July 16th.
