The Waggledance Podcast: Recent Episodes

Dave Courteen

Three guys – Duncan, Dave, Andy. A preacher, a leader and a designer who want to explore ways to live life with a little less friction. Why Waggledance? It’s a dance performed in the hive by bees to pass on information to thrive, how to find pollen or a place to call home. There’s no dancing here though thankfully, just three guys foraging for insights to inform our life choices; a hive of conversation waxing lyrical on faith, family and friendship. We'd love you to join in

Following 3 lockdowns and all those Covid related restrictions, people  are now saying, “We just want to get back to normal”. Really? Normal?  Don’t you want something better than normal? Let's be honest, normal  wasn’t really working. Doing life normally meant people  in the UK ended up with over busy schedules, broken relationships and  extreme money stress. All this was normal pre covid. So in the last episode in this series of the Waggledance podcast Dave, Andy & Duncan ‘go  public’ on their personal manifesto’s for life beyond covid.

When it comes to the hard times we face (like global  pandemics and national lockdowns) they don’t create a strong inner life -  they just reveal what's already there. In the same way our bodies need  physical training then maybe we could all do with some spiritual  training too. For the last time in this series the boys eat a guilt  infested, Duncan created, Nigella inspired pud as they talk about their  intention to pay more attention to whats going on inside.

When it comes to our work Covid has changed  everything, right. From job loses to home working (and home schooling!)  You might not have any control over your work situation right now but  you do have control over your attitude towards it. Maybe that’s a smart  place to start working? Sat once again around a shiny metal  topped reclaimed kitchen table, the boys enjoy a meal fit for royalty  cooked on Andy’s Aga as they talk about smarter ways of future working  that they hope will bring them significance more than success.

Most of us men want to be as cool as Daniel Craig’s  Bond but end up being more like Rowan Atkinson’s Jonny English. Being a  man in the 21st Century is very confusing. What do a real men actually  look like? Can big boys cry these days? Do we have to have huge biceps  to impress the ladies? And what do women really want from a man? In this  'season finale' podcast we are talking 'mano-a-mano'. And it could get  messy. Andy flexes his muscles online.  Dave gives us his lofty view as  the bloke at the top. Banksy & The Bible wraps up by showing us how  our idea of manhood might be different from God’s idea.

Christmas is going to be very different this year for Dave, Andy &  Duncan. Their turkey will probably taste of hand sanitiser and they'll  all get a face mask in their crackers. In this one-off Christmas episode  of the podcast Dave will be finishing the Christmas sherry, Andy will  be eating his body weight in mince pies and Duncan will be roasting his  chestnuts on an open fire.

It's supposed to be ’the most wonderful time  of the year’, right?

But is that their experience? What really goes on  in their homes on Christmas Day?

Duncan wraps up with reminding us who  is the ‘reason for the season.’ (Spoiler alert - its not who you might  think!)

It's not hard to find a book on being a great leader - the shelves of  your local bookshop are weighed down with hundreds of them. It's a lot  harder to find a book on being a great follower. Which is crazy because  we all follow something. You are a dedicated follower whether it's  fashion, football or all those fabulously expensive Apple products. So  this podcast is perfectly designed with you in mind. In this episode  Dave (a leader of hundreds of followers) gets very honest about what his  personal journey following God. Andy dives deep into the subject  of follower-ship and looks at what culture has to say about big brands  and why we follow them. Finally Duncan wraps us up by suggesting a  simple 2-word phrase that changed everything for him as a Jesus  follower.

What's a waggledance?

Well it’s a dance performed in the hive by bees to pass on information to find water, how to find pollen or a place to call home. It's a dance to help others to thrive.

So the Waggledance podcast is three guys, Andy, Dave and Duncan, who have been meeting up at least once a month for years, just helping and supporting each other through life. They’ve been through the highs and lows that life throws at us – it’s it's like they’ve been doing the human equivalent of the waggledance for each other.

Now they thought they would share their conversations through this podcast and they would love you to join in.

The first series will explore the theme of “what’s the one thing you need to know." Six editions covering topics such as being a great friend; great boss; great lover; great Dad; great follower and great bloke.

So here is a little introduction to the Waggledance Podcast, a taster of what you might hear if you tune in.

The podcast launches on 16th November and we would love you to be part of it.
