Another week has come and gone for whitetail hunters across the country. With each passing day, there are less and less hunters in the woods chasing whitetail. However, there are also less and less whitetail to be chased. Join Charlie as he tells of his recent experiences on the farm and he is hopeful his luck will change here in December chasing whitetail and wild hogs.
With November's tournament wrapping up and December's beginning, it is now or never to get hogs submitted for a chance at winning prizes before the end of the year. With Memorial Day weekend weather looking good, Charlie hopes to get the boat on the river for some much needed fishing and hopefully a chance at some hog sightings. With the river finally coming down after some recent floods it should be an interesting trip in the newly renovated jon boat. On top of all the risks that come with summer time hog hunting, beating the clock on field dressing and cleaning your hog is another thing to factor in when dealing with the heat. Being prepared as a hunter is one thing, but being prepared as "hungry" hunter is another.
With more rain in the forecast for most of Texas and it's neighbors to the east, it looks like it may become difficult to hunt the already evasive wild hogs. Flooding can make hunting conditions very difficult and land almost un-navigable. February is coming to an end in the blink of an eye and with temperatures warming up, Charlie is more than ready for spring to begin. Hog hunting has been a failure so far leaving Charlie with an empty box trap for the past couple of weeks. However, there is much to look forward too as the season begins to change. Turkey season is fast approaching and rio grande turkeys have already been taking over the woods it seems. The river has never looked better and with the boat project almost finished, it wont be long until weekends are spent catching catfish and looking for wild hogs along the bank. One thing is for certain, the only way to be successful in hunting hogs is to be persistent and adapt as the hogs adapt. A new season will have them chasing new sources of food and venturing into new and greener pastures.
With January officially behind us, February begins a new tournament and brings with it new prizes as well. Charlie talks about his trap set up and his hopes for success so that he may harvest some wild pork and make sausage with the meat from his whitetail buck from this season. The tournament is off to a great start in February and already has 3 contestants fighting for first.

A start to a new year brings a fresh start to a new tournament as well as the crowing of 2022's champion for most hogs eradicated, submitted, and approved. 2023 is going to be even better with new competitors and higher stakes. There is a lot of work to do to get a handle on this hog population. Charlie plans on doing his part and hopes to encourage others along the way.
With just days left in the 2022 season of True Hog Hunters and Army Hog Hunters tournaments, Charlie takes time to go over some of the numbers that our competitors have put up for the year and what may come in 2023. The season is not quite over yet which means there is still a chance to compete in Decembers tournament and leave 2022 with a victory. Our goal for 2023 is simple, up the stakes and encourage competitors to up their efforts in eradicating more hogs.
With deer season coming to an end soon in south Texas, Charlie gets time for a last minute sit to hopefully stick a wild pig. With the years first freeze knocking on the door, Charlie wanted to see how the wildlife around the farm would react before the severe weather change. The wild pigs have become frequent visitors of the river bottom feeder again and with just a few days left in the hog hunting tournament, Charlie wanted to take advantage of the opportunity in hopes of placing in the final month of the year.
With hog traffic slowing down since the eradication of the 2 boars, it is time to focus on deer hunting and fight against the clock as the season begins to wind down. As the rut begins, and the behavior of bucks changes, so do hunting tactics. All previous ideas of timing and patterns can be thrown out the window. Mature buck activity will become random and unpredictable. Charlie will have to use his knowledge of past hunts to put himself in the best position possible to bag a good buck. Even then however, a lot of luck will have to take place for it to happen.

August has proven to be another successful month for hunters in the hog hunting tournaments and earned 3 hunters some nice prizes for their efforts. September has arrived and brought with it a multitude of migratory birds down south bringing hunters back out into the outdoors with hopes of daily bag limits as well as pre deer season preparations. The wild hogs have used their reliable noses to sniff out feeders on the property and have done quick work of sucking up the corn scattered across the property before other wildlife can have a chance. Charlie has taken notice and began efforts at hunting and trapping but so far has always been in the wrong place at the wrong time. With bait brewing, Charlie hopes to have a change in luck and be successful in harvesting hogs off the farm to help deter the rest of them for at least a short amount of time as well as show a count of the tournament leaderboard.

Charlie is joined this week with Lieutenant Colonel Tim Green and Army veteran Joshua Schmidt as they prepare for their first ever helicopter hog hunt in the first season of "Force on Force Army Hog Hunters". A new prize is announced for most hogs eradicated, submitted, and approved at the end of the year and Charlie gets ready for a weekend of hard hog hunting with an old from Nebraska.
Charlie gets the opportunity to sit down with Marine veteran Randy Gardner and Air Force veteran Eddie Woolidge before they team up for their first heli hog hunt in the first season of "Force on Force Army Hog Hunters". With both men being well experienced marksman and avid hunters they feel like they are as prepared as well as any other team for the upcoming hunt and competition. Hunting hogs is nothing new for them but hunting them from a helicopter definitely is. Luckily for them, it is new to every hunter in this competition. As competitors prep for their hunts on the first season of the new TV series "Force on Force Army Hog Hunters" Charlie gets the honor of sitting down and talking with contestants of the show and learn about their background and journey that has lead them to this opportunity. This weeks episode features Dawn Rose and Mark Lotre, two retired Air Force veterans and previous contestants for the hit outdoor TV series "Force on Force Army Buck Hunters". Both contestants are used to stiff competition and have actually gone head to head before in the "Army Buck Hunters" shooting tournament. However, with "Army Hog Hunters" being a completely new show, it also comes with a completely new set of rules and conditions. Unlike in "Army Buck Hunters", "Army Hog Hunters" has by chance, teamed Mark and Dawn up together so that they must communicate and work together to have a chance at winning. Mark has claimed victory before in Season 2 of "Army Buck Hunters" and is looking to repeat his success in Season 1 of "Army Hog Hunters". Dawn has proven to be an excellent marksman and has also shined in her ability to adapt and overcome in previous episodes when faced with adversity and unexpected obstacles on the range and in the field. Stay tuned as these two Air Force Veterans team up and use their skills and training to compete in the first ever season of "Force on Force Army Hog Hunters", a new hog hunting TV series unlike any other.
January is officially over giving us our first winners of the year. Cold weather approaches the south bringing possible ice as well as the possibility of some really good hog hunting. The first month of 2022 has been a successful one and has has set the bar high for the rest of the year for the True Hog Hunters and Army Hog Hunters tournaments.
Giving incentives for hunters to hunt harder than ever before for wild hogs in hopes of increasing efforts to bring the population to a much more manageable number has always been one of the main goals for The Sounder Podcast and the online tournament trail. Tune in to this weeks episode to learn how you as a hog hunter can earn cash for hunting hogs in the state of Texas, and how over $27,000.00 will be given out in two of Texas counties to hunters for the bounty of feral hogs. The south Texas deer season had a late start for most hunters with December temperatures staying way above average, making it difficult for hunters across the state chasing whitetail. Late season showed promise for a chance at a big mature buck on the farm and had Charlie anxious to hunt as much as possible in the final weekend of muzzleloader season. However, as luck would have it, Charlie and his family would come down with the notorious Covid virus that would force Charlie into pulling the plug on the remainder of the season. Although discouraging, Charlie can now allow himself to put the season behind him and focus on what The Sounder is all about, hog hunting. It is now prime time to hunt hogs in every way possible in hopes of gaining ground on the war on hogs. With contestants putting up big numbers so far in January, Charlie hopes to be able to use all resources available to play catch up, and eradicate as many hogs on the property as possible to help preserve the native habitat that supports the native wild game. The next few months will be crucial for the contestants in the tournament and should provide the best hog hunting until late summer and early fall during the harvest season.
January is off to a hot start for the True Hog Hunters tournament as a couple of hunters are quick to get hogs submitted and on the leaderboard. Charlie tells of his very first try at muzzleloader season and was not disappointed to say the least. There is still one more weekend left and a tag to fill for the hunter as he plans on spending as much effort as possible in hopes of a mature buck. Once the whitetail season is officially over for good until next fall, Charlie plans on trying his hand a bow hunting. With wild hogs making themselves at home on the farm, it is time to use any and all resources to eradicate this invasive species and try to bring the overall population to a manageable number. It is time to sour corn and prepare to bait traps in hope of catching whole sounders and earning a chance to win the new prizes for the year.
A new year brings a fresh start to the Army Hog Hunters and True Hog Hunters tournaments as the leaderboard officially resets bringing everyone back to zero. The 2021 season was a success with almost 1000 hogs submitted and approved. The new year has brought the south its first true freeze as deer season ends, opening up land rights to hog hunters across the nation again to go out and chase with dogs as well as hunt and trap. Statistics for the first year show what it takes to compete monthly in the tournaments and Charlie talks about his goals for 2022 as well as what he plans to do to be a better hog hunter this season. Hunters of all sorts won throughout the year proving that not one hunting tactic is better than any other. A good hog hunter will adjust to the habitat and situation to get the highest success rate in wild hog extermination upon determining all the variables at hand. Charlie feels this is going to be an even better year for the hog hunting tournaments as hunters are not wasting time and have already begun to submit hogs from their successful New Years hunts.
The 2021 season nears an end as we get ready to wrap it the tournaments up and announce our champion for the True Hog Hunters Year To Date Kills. Charlie reminds everyone that deer season in south Texas is coming to an end and ways to possibly still hunt your target buck if you have not got him yet. With the new year upon us it is time to think about new year resolutions and Charlie talks about his plans for 2022 as well as his final days of 2021.
With just days left in the 2021 season, Charlie updates listeners on the December True Hog Hunters leaderboards and the year to date leaderboards. The first year of the tournament is almost over and the numbers continue to grow as hogs are being submitted everyday. Deer season has seemed to play a factor in the tournament as submissions have slowed down. As season comes to an end there is no doubt that hog hunting will ramp up as winter hopefully sticks around making for perfect hog hunting conditions. Hogs have come back to the family farm with a vengeance and seem to be sticking around in hopes of easy meals are deer feeders. Charlie hopes to finish his deer season strong and begin 2022 with a fresh slate and hopefully improve on his hog submissions come January. Stay tuned as winners will be announced after the 1st of the year and prizes given out to our top competitors.
Charlie announces the winners for October and brings everyone up to date for the November True Hog Hunter's Tournament. With opening weekend behind us for Texas rifle season, Charlie continues the story of Maximus (The big 10 Point Buck) that has made the farm his home. Even though everything came to plan as Charlie hoped in getting his wife on this deer opening morning. The story beyond the life of Maximus continues as Charlie finds out more about him after death, and realizes that this buck is not who he previously thought due to a distinguishable facial feature. The name of Maximus will stay with the buck harvested due to his name was given to him just this year after Charlie caught the buck on camera fighting off a couple coyotes. The mystery lies in "where is the original 10 point?" "Will we ever see him again?" and "What does he look like now?" Charlie is humbled by his mistake of antler identifying Maximus but is also relieved to know that the farm could very well be producing another main frame mature 10 point.
October continues to produce hogs in the tournament and it is a close one again. As we enter the final week of the month it is still to early to predict a winner. Charlie takes a different approach to this weeks episode and discusses hog hunting in a different light than usual. With times changing and issues like inflation and short supply of grocery items, Charlie brings to mind the possibility of wild hogs being a good source of free food if times were to get tough. Occurrences throughout 2021 have proven that people have become completely dependent on the convenience of grocery store supplies and food and have lost the ability to be self sufficient. Good times have created a soft society which seems to struggle at the first thought of disaster. Stores are emptied and people become selfish and hoard. People with the capability to be self sufficient seem to take to the woods, gardens, and water systems to survive. The question is "Could wild hogs be the answer to hunger if need be?" and "What has to happen to make a society get to this point?" Could a major disaster be what it takes to bring the wild hog population to manageable number?
As deer season approaches, Charlie is worried that a new boar on camera may spell trouble for chances at the target buck on the farm. The pig activity has been surprisingly slow compared to previous years but it was just a matter of time before they made their way back and found the feeders. With weather changing and temperatures cooling down, deer and hogs are starting to travel and show on camera more often. October has been surprisingly slower than September's tournament as far as hog submissions go but there is plenty of time to jump in and compete. The tournament is approaching 1000 hogs total and a prize will be given out to the hunter who submits the 1000th hog. Prizes for October also include 223 ammo made by True Ballistics.
September produced some major hog numbers for the True Hog Hunters tournament, and with the fall taking place and the weather cooling down, it looks like October may allow for some great hog hunting. Charlie is getting excited for the upcoming deer season and the hog hunting that comes with it and explains how his style of hunting may be changing after this season. The final quarter of the year has begun and everyone still has a chance to win the end of the year prize for most hogs even though some hunters have a head start. Weather will play a huge factor in the next few months as well as deer season effecting hog hunters on properties that shut down strictly for deer season. With more hogs out there now than ever, it is time to pull out the big guns and hunt them as hard as we can to bring the population down.
The first cool front has finally made its way through south Texas and Charlie cant help but get excited for the upcoming deer season. Wildlife activity has picked up and game cameras have been hard at work capturing the many visitors around the properties feeders. Last season showed many signs that the farm was finally producing and holding deer, unlike previous years that just had the occasional "passer by" bucks that would make a quick appearance and disappear to never be seen again. This year is looking to pick up where last season ended with some familiar faces on the camera, including the main target buck that has no idea how close he came to being put on the wall a season ago. The steady rains have come to a halt and the land is starting to dry out, as well as farms being harvested, forcing much of the surrounding wildlife to make occasional stops at feeders for quick meals. This makes it easier to pattern deer pre rut but also means an increase in hog traffic as well. Either way, it looks like the upcoming deer season may be the best one yet for Charlie on the farm and should produce a fair share of nice bucks and a multitude of wild hogs.
With dove season now a full go in Texas, Charlie takes a trip down memory lane to his childhood and hunting with his dad. The days are slowly but surely starting to look more like fall and that means birds in the air and hogs and deer in the fields. The tournament is back to life with hogs being submitted by the dozen and it looks like the pigs have had plenty to eat this summer. Fall also means less food in the fields and pastures as well and can lead to hogs and deer taking chances showing up at feeders and designated food plots. Trapping is proving to be a successful tool in the tournament again and night hunting has become the weekend event for hunters across the nation in search for wild hogs. Dove season will come and go but the memory of the hunt will last a lifetime and could have a profound impact on new hunters. Charlie encourages hunters with available time and land to introduce new hunters to dove season so that others may grow to appreciate not just the hunt, but the experience and memories that go with it.
Charlie sits down to announce the leaderboard for the first week of September and give listeners a piece of advice to make their go at the tournament a tad bit smoother and faster. With dove season starting throughout Texas, Charlie reminds hunters to get licensed and check their shotguns and gear before going into the field to avoid being ticketed. Wild hog numbers are skyrocketing at a rapid pace, food being almost and unlimited resource, and pigs using the dense brush and habitat to stay unseen, it would be no surprise to see a major increase in the population over the summer months. Hunting sows, and especially mature sows, that can produce multiple high volume litters a year is key to reducing the population and advancing efforts in the war on hogs.
Charlie is joined by LTC Tim Green on the show to talk about the ongoing problem of wild hogs. Tim is an active member of the United States Army for over 30 years now and has joined forces with the Army Hog Hunters in hopes to not only fight the war on hogs firsthand, but also help raise awareness on how devastating this invasive species can be. Tim will be apart of the new television series "Army Hog Hunters" set to film its first season in January in what may be the most exciting hog hunting show yet. Charlie picks Tim's brain on tactics and what he has found works the best in being successful in hog hunting through over a decade of hunting them and documenting their behavior. As expected, the final weeks of summer are proving to be good for hog hunters and tournament submissions are back on the rise. With August behind us we have a new reigning champion and a new leader for YTD kills. The rest of 2021 is still to come and with fall fast approaching it is still anyone's tournament to win.

Charlie announces the winners for July in the True Hog Hunters tournament and gives his predictions on what he expects for the August tournament. With Summer quickly passing by, Charlie made time to get out over the weekend to set up a new spot he plans to hunt this upcoming deer season. After scouting and surveying the land for a year, it became clear that the wildlife on the property was traveling through the area on a regular basis. As much as Charlie is excited about the possibility of a big mature buck, the thought of taking a 250+lb hog is heavy on his mind. Now that the trails are cut, the feeders and blinds are set, and the trail cameras are up and running, It's time to get ready for the hardest thing a hunter is faced with... the patience of waiting.
Travis Vickery from Brush Country Boar Hunters (BCBH) joins Charlie Lobner in the studio to announce the leaderboards as we hit the midway marker for the July True Hog Hunters and Army Hog Hunters tournaments. Travis has previously talked about new properties he has scouted in hopes of getting on some hogs and one property in particular did not disappoint. On more than one occasion in less than a weeks time, BCBH's dogs struck gold, including a boar that has taken "Survival" to a whole new meaning.
Charlie sits down with Travis from BCBH to announce the leaderboard results of June and new prizes for this months True Hog Hunters and Army Hog Hunters tournaments. July seemed to be off to a quick start in producing hogs, but with heavy rains drenching much of south Texas, it seems it has become almost to wet to hunt and has brought most hog hunters to a hault. Traps still do not seem to be producing as well as they did in the winter and early spring months giving other hunters a chance to catch up to YTD leaderboards, including an ex rival to BCBH who seems to be attempting a second half comeback. Charlie also announces a new breed of Hog Trap that wont break the bank and may help produce big numbers for competitors in the future.
June has come to an end for Army Hog Hunters and True Hog Hunters tournaments and things look pretty good for a few hunters who may just be going home with some prizes after midnight of July 1st. Charlie is joined with Travis Vickery of BCBH to discuss leaderboards and prep for July. Charlie warns of rising corn prices as well as deer feeds and cottonseed with prices projected to only get higher as fall approaches. A new weapon may be introduced soon to the hog hunting community in efforts to control population and Charlie expresses his theories on possible pros and cons of this new formula as well as possible natural ingredients.
June has been a relatively slow month in the True Hog Hunters and Army Hog Hunters tournaments with Squeal Team 6 and BCBH tied for first with 5 hogs a piece. As mentioned on episode 13, Charlie predicted Squeal Team 6 to show up and produce hogs to attempt a win, and even though it is to early to call, it seems Squeal Team 6 may have secured a victory with 12 more hogs entered over the weekend. Bringing his total kill count to 17. Travis from BCBH joined Charlie on the show again to continue their conversation from episode 13. Travis leads in the Army Hog Hunters tournament by only 3 hogs going into the final 2 days of June. With more rain in the forecast, it is hard to predict how the hogs will react and what is the best way to hunt them successfully. As of right now, night vision and thermal hunting seem to be the best choice in killing hogs so far this summer, with trapping not producing a single hog all month. Running dogs has been successful at times but sporadic and inconsistent for smaller properties, especially those lacking prime food sources like most surrounding farmland.

With Summer officially beginning and the temperatures rising, Charlie's prediction of a fall in hog kill submissions seems to be correct so far. With farm crops reaching peak growth and spring rains keeping the landscape green and healthy, it is a perfect environment for hog population growth throughout much of the south. May produced some big numbers in hogs killed, but it seems hogs have found sanctuary in dense forest, brush and farm land to thrive on easy meals and evade hunters no matter their efforts. With numbers of kills falling off drastically in June, and quite possibly all throughout the summer, Charlie fears previous efforts to decrease population numbers may go to waste if hogs can continue to roam carelessly and breed without hunter interference. With populations still being at an all time high, Charlie focuses on ways to incentivize the eradication of hogs through the hog hunting tournaments as well as ideas to help put wild pork meat to good use for those who can use it.

March blew previous tournament numbers out of the water and set a new personnel best for the tournament. The April tournament is already looking to be a close one and the year to date (YTD) competition got a whole lot closer as well. Host, Charlie Lobner gets on the line with Punisher Hunting LLC owner/operator Clayton Reynolds. Clayton tells of his early beginnings in hog hunting and how his hobby soon evolved into an obsession that took hold and turned into one of the greatest thrill rides a hunter of any sort may experience. Charlie breaks down hunting with Clayton from his point of view. With a recent hog hunt in the books, Clayton successfully put the guys on numerous hogs on multiple occasions leading to a total of 41 wild hogs bagged between 3 shooters in a single night. These 41 hogs not only set a new high for Punisher Hunting but also pushed Clayton into 1st place in the Army Hog Hunters and True Hog Hunters tournaments with just under 2 weeks left in the month of March.
As the tournament continues to grow with new contestants, Charlie and Travis make their predictions for the month of March and what they think will happen to tournament submissions as Spring approaches. Travis continues to acquire permission to hunt new properties for hogs to keep up with the new names putting up big numbers on the leaderboards, including a local pig slayer with quite the reputation and a hunter known for filling up flat beds with dead hogs. March is still anyone's game with 1st, 2nd and 3rd still close as well as previous winners being just one big hunt away from jumping right back in it. Charlie also announces for the first time what the end of the year prize will be for the True Hog Hunters tournament for the leader in YTD kills submitted and approved for 2021. Hint: It will definitely help adding numbers to future hog tournaments.
With February in the books, Charlie Lobner takes time to talk with Travis Vickery once again on his success and win in both Army Hog Hunters and True Hog Hunters Tournaments. Travis talks of his success and what he has done to catch and kill more hogs as well as acquire more properties for hunting and trapping. Travis has proven in the tournament to be a serious and consistent hog hunter with 66 approved kills so far, 41 coming from the first 2 months of 2021 alone. Even though he ran away with February's tournament, Travis still knows he will have to provide even greater numbers in the future months if he wants to stay on top of the previous winners and the new competition that seems to be nipping at his heels.

After days without power due to severe winter storms Charlie hits the mic solo to bring everyone back up to speed on the tournament leaderboard with just 1 week left in the February True Hog Hunters and Army Hog Hunters Tournaments. It looks like BCBH may run away with 1st place this month, but with new blood in the tournament and some previous winners still in the mix, anything can happen. As BCBH has learned in the past, you can never have a large enough lead.
