We made it to the final fear of the 5 -Part Fear Series where I’ve been sharing some of my fears, why they exist, what I’m doing to push through those fears and how you can do the same.
Today is all about my fear of not being a great mom.
Mother’s Day is right around the corner. This is a time to appreciate and show love to the great mother’s in your life.
Although motherhood has been fun and rewarding, I still have experienced fears off and on about my ability to be a great mother. Sometimes as parents, we feel like we have to have it all figured out. We never will. And that’s ok.
The best thing we can do as parents is to just do our best with what we have right now. Enjoy the moments, but also be willing and open to learning new ways to become better parents.

Next up is Part 4 of 5 of the Fear Series where I’m sharing some of my fears, why they exist, what I’m doing to push through those fears and how you can do the same.
Today is all about my fear of losing my mom and daughter.
It’s crazy how this episode was recorded in March 2020 and in April 2020 I got huge scares that flashed before my eyes for both my mom and daughter.
On April 10, 2022 my mom had a stroke for the first time ever. She is now in recovery.
On April 20, 2022 my daughter’s dorm building at college caught fire. She and other students were relocated to temporary housing. My daughter wasn’t hurt, but at least 4 people were hurt.
We know that none of us will live forever. We are all going to die one day. We just hope that our last day is a long time from now.
The best thing we can do is appreciate the good that life has to offer and spend time with loved ones who bring positivity into our lives.
When someone you love dies, you might be sad, angry, or hurt. If you enjoy the good times while those loved ones are here, it may be easier to cope with their death once they are gone because you won’t be wishing you should have called them more or spent more time with them.
Spend more time with them now. Call them now. Text them now. Email them now. Go visit them in person now. Laugh with them now. Tell them how much you care, love and appreciate them.

Next up is Part 3 of 5 of the Fear Series where I’m sharing some of my fears, why they exist, what I’m doing to push through those fears and how you can do the same.
Today is all about my fear of not being good enough professionally.
Have you ever had a job or built a business and doubted yourself? Have you ever questioned your ability to do well enough to be seen as successful in the eyes of yourself and in the eyes of other people?
Sometimes we can be so hard on ourselves, but we need to realize that we are phenomenal. No more underestimating our skills, experience and creativity. We are valuable and unique in our own way, but we have to move like we feel it and believe it.

We are back with Part 2 of 5 of the Fear Series where I’m sharing some of my fears, why they exist, what I’m doing to push through those fears and how you can do the same.
Today is all about my fear of relationships with people in general. This could be relationships with friends, family, coworkers, people within the community, romantic relationships, business partners, etc.
We all need healthy relationships with people. When you’ve experienced enough negative situations, we can sometimes put our guard up and not want to deal with people at all.
That is no way to live. Instead of avoiding people, we should learn how to manage our feelings from those negative situations and move differently to attract healthier and more fulfilling relationships with people.

Welcome to the 5-Part Fear Series where I share my fears, why they exist, what I’m doing to push through those fears and how you can do the same.
Acknowledging fears isn't always easy, but it’s necessary. Ignoring your fears or being in denial about your fears can keep you stuck in a life you are not happy with.
Being honest about your fears and taking action to push through them allows you to truly live the lifestyle you desire.
In Part 1, I shared my fear of being broke. I struggled with money starting at 17 years old when I became a teen mom and started taking out student loan debt for college.
Then I got credit cards, payday loans, car loans, past due rent and utility bills, disconnection notices, car repossessions, wage garnishments, living paycheck to paycheck and evictions.
The financial trauma of my past still has a little hold on me because I never want to go back to where I was. Although I have overcome plenty of money challenges and accomplished a lot of money goals, part of me still fear going back to my broke days.

Sometimes we think about our financial mistakes and regret some of the decisions we have made.
We later realize that those "financial mistakes" are lessons learned. Lessons that have built our skills, knowledge and character.
Instead of regretting your past, embrace it. Be proud. Use that energy to continue living a lifestyle you desire. It only goes up from here.
Barry Spencer, author of "Wealth With No Regrets" joins us this week to explain how we all can have wealth with no regrets and use our lessons learned to guide us on our journey.

No one is 100% safe when it comes to identity theft. It can happen to anyone, individuals and businesses.
Do your best to protect yourself, but the most important thing you can do is to understand what you need to do if you become (or think you are) a victim of identity theft.
I recently experienced an identity theft situation. In this episode, I’m sharing what happened to me, my next steps, and what you can do if this happens to you.

Robert Fortune returns to the show to talk about what the black wealth gap really means and what we can do now to close it for ourselves, families and communities.
According to the Federal Reserve, the average Black and Hispanic or Latino households (in the United States) earn about half as much as the average White household and own only about 15 to 20 percent as much net wealth.

Working a job can be great. Growing a business can be great. Managing them both can also be great, but sometimes it's not.
It can be stressful and overwhelming managing a job, a business, family and other responsibilities.
The good news is there is always something you can do to make it all just a little bit easier. If you're juggling both it will never be perfect, but overall you want to wake up and enjoy doing what you do.

What 3 professionals would you hire to make your personal or professional life easier?
Sometimes we get busy and overwhelmed trying to do everything ourselves, but sometimes it feels great to get someone else to help and take the load off.
I would hire a chef, makeup artist and a handyman/mechanic. Let me know who you would hire.

Part 2 of the Start Fresh 4 Week Series created to help you reach your money and life goals in 2022.
Sometimes we go with the flow in life, but that doesn’t always work. When we desire something, we must be intentional about how we make space for it in our life. Start with creating a theme to help guide over the next 12 months.

Every Friday at 8:00am CST is "Question of The Day Edition" of Financially Free with Cleo Podcast!
What would you do today with $20K?
I read an article this week that said 70% of millennials are living paycheck to paycheck. It also said that the older millennials had the brokest energy.
Millennials are ages 25 - 40. Younger millennials are ages 25 - 32. Older millennials are ages 33 - 40. Let's all refuse to be in this brokest energy category.
If you had $20,000 today, what are two things you would do to either pull you out of the brokest energy category or avoid getting into that category?
Let me know in the comments on YouTube!

Sometimes we desire something for so long, then later realize that what we once desired is no longer the best opportunity for us. And that’s ok. We grow and evolve. Sometimes we need to experience things to discover the best path to take. That path can change over time.
I recently made a huge decision, which was letting go of a great opportunity at a new station in Texas. It would have been a two year contract as a Digital New Anchor/Host, which was a dream opportunity. Before my start date I realized that although this was a great opportunity, it was no longer the best opportunity for me in this season of my life.

When deciding which financial path to take, it can sometimes become overwhelming.
The first step is to get clear on what YOU need and want for your financial lifestyle. There can be pros and cons to both sides.
Second step is to educate yourself on what is required to have a successful and fulfilling experience, whether if you're choosing to live a debt free lifestyle or credit lifestyle.
Third step is to take action consistently. Things change in the financial world daily. It's great to surround yourself with people and resources to guide you and keep you informed on the journey.
In this episode, I shared my own personal experiences and thoughts on debt free vs credit. There is no right or wrong decision. Choose which route is best for you in this season of your life. You can always make adjustments later.
Do you want to be debt free or would you prefer to manage credit?

When we think about our finances, we often think we need more money. If you received the amount of money you desire right now, would you be ready for it? Would you be ready to deal with the responsibilities and more opportunities it would bring?
Are you willing to try something new to get to the amount of money you desire? Sometimes we have opportunities presented to us that will push us into our next income level, but we don't take that next step?
Why? Many times it's because it's outside of our comfort zone. Even if we desire something, sometimes fear and being uncomfortable causes us to do nothing.
In this episode, I shared my experience with moving outside of my comfort zone to receive a higher income to pay off more debt and improve my money management skills.
How much more money would you like to make each month? What's one thing you're willing to let go of or add to your life to get one step closer to that goal?

Every community has it's challenges. Every community has good and bad experiences. No community is perfect.
Although I was born and raised in black communities that others would considered low income or poor, we had (still do) talented, intelligent, creative and genuine people. It's been 8 years since I've relocated away from my hometown in Nashville, TN. I've been able to see how communities operate in so many other states.
I'm excited about the positive change the communities have been making, but there is still more work to do especially when it comes to the financial well being of black communities.
In this episode, I sharing my thoughts on efforts in the black community. I want to see more action and less talking. Instead of complaining and criticizing, we all need to take action to contribute to positive financial change.
Individually we are great, but as a community we are powerful.
What would you like to see done in your community?

Travel therapy is a form of self care. The same way we get more sleep, take a relaxing bath, get a massage, talk to a therapist or level up in our finances, is the same way we should give time, money and energy towards traveling.
Whether if your travel experience is a staycation in your city or traveling to the another city, state or country, you get the opportunity to relax, have fun, take a break, meet new people, learn more about new cultures, try new activities, explore new land, and the list goes on.
There's something about getting in the car, on a bus, train, or plane that get's me excited. Travel experiences fuels our mind and body, which helps us become more productive with our day to day responsibilities.
In this episode, you'll learn why I decided to go on a cross country road trip visiting every state in the Unites States of America and why you should start your next travel therapy experience.
What are your travel therapy goals? Where do you want to go? When do you want to go? Who do you want to go with? Which trips will be solo travel?
Check out this Forbes article: Five Reasons Why Traveling Is Good For Your Mental Health
In this episode, I mentioned that I learned about Travel Therapy from Taryn Bushrod. Check out my interview with her on episode 8: Pro Athletes and The Psychology of Money
I also mentioned that Yasmine Bedward suggested visiting cities in the United States of America that I have not been to yet. This inspired me to start my cross country road trip journey now. Check out my interview with her on episode 14: How Storytelling Can Transform Your Finances

Do you have a motto or quote that you live by daily?
When I was lost and confused about who I am and what I wanted to do with my life, I never really had any quotes or mottos I followed or supported. As I grew older, I realized it's best to have a guide as you navigate through your life journey.
No journey is perfect, but we can't do it alone. It's great to have people to help you when needed, but what happens when you don't have someone or a team to help support, encourage or guide you?
You need your own quotes or mottos to help guide you, fuel you and push you outside of your comfort zone. Actions are louder than words, but words are still powerful when used consistently.
My motto is "Don't Wonder What If, Take A Risk" Check out Episode 32 to learn why I created my own motto and why you should have a motto to guide you on your journey.
It can be a motto you created or one created by someone else that you feel aligns with your lifestyle and goals.
What's your motto? Share with me on social media and tag @cleoyogafinance

Do you believe in Law of Attraction? Do you believe that your thoughts and the way you speak determines the results you experience in life?
There are so many studies from all over the world about law of attraction and how we must continuously be aware of our thoughts and the words we speak daily.
Throughout my own personal and professional journey I've realized that I needed to not only be aware of my thoughts and the words I spoke, but also my feelings and emotions. I realized it's ok to feel what I feel, but to also acknowledge when certain thoughts and feelings are keeping me stuck or in a negative mood.
I learned to focus on the positives which lead to better life experiences. When you focus on the positive, your actions will follow, then the resources and opportunities will follow.
Check out Episode 31: "Law of Attraction" and let me know what changes you will make to attract more of what you want into your life.
Also, check out the amazing affirmation music by Toni Jones
5 things to do to attract more positive results in life:
11:16 - Enforce a weekly self care routine (rest, relaxation and laughter)
13:48 - Speak or write financial affirmations or money mantras daily
15:25 - Set specific goals and with due dates (adjustments can be made)
16:56 - Take action daily. (Weeks and months shouldn't past by with no work done)
19:43 - Hire a professional. (Coach, therapist, mentor, or trusted friend)

This week we are talking about loan options that are typically offered to people who have low income or a low credit score. Most of us are aware that the higher the credit score and income, the more options you have to pay cash or borrow money for what you need and want.
I'm not a fan of financing everything, but if you need to finance something I'm all for finding the best financing deal for you.
The lower the income and credit score, the more money one has to pay in interest and fees. The good news is there is always a way to increase your income and credit score to qualify for the financing deal you desire.
Check out Episode 30: "Don't Settle For Predatory Lending" because you deserve fair and reasonable loan terms, regardless of the financial mistakes or unfortunate unexpected financial circumstances you've experienced in the past.

Have you ever been told that you were wasting money renting versus buying a home? I've been told plenty of times that the amount I pay in rent is the same amount I could be paying on a mortgage, if not less.
What some people fail to understand is that when it comes to purchasing a home, one must be in a financial and mental position to take on more than just the monthly mortgage payment.
What about the other financial responsibilities that come with homeownership, such as homeowners insurance, property taxes, lawn care, pool maintenance, cost to replace or repair things when need, and the list goes on.
On Episode 29: "Renting Is Not A Waste of Money" I'm sharing how important it is for us to understand the potential pros and cons of renting and homeownership. It's even more important to decide which option is best for you right now. Neither option is 100% better than the other, but the option that is best for you depends on several factors within your lifestyle.
Sometimes it makes sense to buy. Other times it makes more sense to continue renting. Choose what's best for you.

It's official, I now have a high school graduate. My daughter, Destiny Kennedy, is now preparing for her transition to college. I'm so proud of her and look forward to all of her life experiences.
As a teen mom and single mom, our mother daughter journey has been great but sometimes challenging. Life is all about living the lifestyle you desire while learning and growing through challenges that life throws at us.
I thought this moment would take forever to come, but now that it is here I am happy and grateful that I was able to raise Destiny the best way that I could with what I had. I must say, I did an AMAZING JOB!
I am now an Empty Nester since Destiny is my one and only child. I have been reading more about what Empty Nester really means and how it may apply to my motherhood journey.
According to Better Health Channel, Empty nest syndrome refers to the grief that many parents feel when their children move out of the home. This condition is typically more common in women, who are more likely to have had the role of primary carer.
On Episode 28: "Empty Nest Syndrome" I'm sharing my thoughts on being an empty nester and how I plan to operate in this new chapter of my life.

We all should relocate to a new city at least once in our lifetime. There are so many other life experiences we can't get just staying in one city our whole life.
When I relocated for the first time, I was desperate for new beginnings. I thought moving would solve all of my money problems, but I quickly realized that just moving was not enough. I needed to do the work mentally and physically too.
If we relocate in hopes that a new environment will change our lives without us doing the deeper mental and physical work, then our problems will just follow us from city to city, state to state and country to country.
On Episode 27: "Relocation Won't Solve Your Problems" I'm sharing my experience with relocating for the first time. It wasn't an easy journey, but it was worth every minute.
Make a list of places you would love to relocate to one day. No matter if it's short term or long term, the journey starts with you visualizing where you would want to live and when.

How does your personal economy operate? How does the money in your life revolve around you?
Our daily habits determine the type of financial lifestyles we experience. It's never too late to take the next step towards the level of financial freedom you desire.
On Episode 26: "Investments and Sacrifices" we are talking with Robert Fortune, a Brooklyn native and founder of Fortune Advisory Services.

On Episode 21, I'm talking about hiring a professional vs DIY.
When I made the decision to improve my finances, I isolated myself and did it alone. I thought I was saving money by not hiring a financial professional to guide me. Plus, I felt like I was old enough to know better and do it myself.
What I've learned is that EVERYONE needs help at different levels of life. NOBODY knows everything. The most successful and wealthiest people still hire mentors, coaches and advisors. We are better when we do it with help.
It's very important to start learning on your own first, but in order to have transformational changes in your life, you will need HELP!

This week is special because I'm releasing my 11th podcast episode. There's a podcasting statistic that states the average podcast doesn't make it beyond the 10th episode.
On Episode 11: "Statistics Do Not Define You" I'm sharing how I didn't allow statistics to define what I can do. Although there is more work to be done, I've remained consistent and crushed that goal. The journey continues.
There are other statistics that I have come across over the years that I almost let keep me stuck. Researching and learning about studies is great, but remember they don't define us. We are capable of doing whatever we put our mind and energy to.
In this episode you will learn:
00:01:27 - Why you shouldn't allow statistics to control your actions
00:02:42 - How I almost didn't start this podcast
00:05:51 - Other statistics that almost kept me stuck
00:18:55 - Ways to not allow statistics to define you
What statistics have you learned about that may have or almost kept you stuck? Share with me!

00:07:50 - One of Mariah's positive money experiences

On Episode 9: "Paying Off Debt Faster" I'm sharing tips on how to pay off debt faster so you can live the lifestyle you desire.
Yes you can most definitely live a great life while paying off debt, but most of the time debt can be a barrier between the life we have now and the financial lifestyle we desire.
Larger debts such as a mortgage may take the longest to pay off, but it can be paid off early too. Let's get those other debts out of the way first, such as credit cards, payday loans, title loans, auto loans, personal loans, medical debt, student loans, taxes, child support, etc.
You may be thinking, what's the rush Cleo? I have plenty of time to pay off my debts. Well that sounds great, but the reality is we don't have plenty of time. The best thing we can do is appreciate each day, be grateful and also take action every day that pushes us closer to our debt free goal.
Just think about how you would feel if you were debt free right now. What would you do with your time, energy and money if you have no debt payments?
In this episode you will learn how:
04:50 - Your mindset controls your daily actions
06:50 - The debt snowball method allows you to get quick results
10:28 - Budgeting helps you understand what you're working with
11:55 - Increasing income gives you more options
14:17 - Saying NO pushes you closer to your debt free goal

Motherhood is a beautiful and exciting experience!
On Episode 7: "Motherhood and Money Mindsets" we are talking with returning guest, "Stephanie Holt," as we share our experiences as a teen mom, single mom and how our money mindsets changed over the years.
Although motherhood is extremely rewarding, it can sometimes be overwhelming. No mother is perfect. There is no "one way" to be a parent.
One of the best things we can do as mothers is use our money lessons and life lessons to help guide our kids as they navigate through their own lives.

Episode 5 of Financially Free with Cleo is a solo episode. I'm talking about boundaries. It's important to set healthy boundaries with yourself and others so you can truly live the lifestyle you desire.
If you struggle with setting boundaries and requiring yourself and others to respect those boundaries, you may be delaying your own growth. Sometimes NOT setting healthy boundaries can be a barrier between who you are now and who you desire to be. It can also cause unnecessary delays in accomplishing certain life goals.
You have the power to gain more confidence with setting healthy boundaries in your life. Be bold in your delivery to yourself and others. Make respecting your boundaries a requirement. In order to live a happy, peaceful and fulfilling life, one must always have respected healthy boundaries.

Episode 4 of Financially Free with Cleo is a solo episode with me, myself and I. I'm talking about living paycheck to paycheck. What does it mean to live paycheck to paycheck? How can we break the living paycheck to paycheck cycle?
Some say more money is the answer. Some say more financial education is the answer? I believe both can be part of the solution. We also need to understand that financial coaching and financial therapy is also needed to help us understand our thoughts, feelings, emotions and behaviors with money.
Getting more money doesn't necessarily mean you will manage it properly. For this reason, you need the financial education, financial coaching and financial therapy to help you overcome financial struggles from the past and present.

Episode 3 of Financially Free with Cleo is a solo episode with me, myself and I. I'm sharing details on how I was fired from my first "real" job.
Sometimes what we may perceive as negative can actually be a blessing. It may not feel that way while we're experiencing it, but later we realize that was one of the best things that could have ever happened to us.
If I would have stayed at that job, I would have still be in my unproductive comfort zone. Sometimes we need to be removed from certain environments to reach new levels.

Sharing our stories is important because it not only reminds us that we are powerful and unique, but it also helps someone else who may need the inspiration and motivation to take action in their own lives.
Eric shared his lessons learned from past money experiences and entrepreneurship. He and I share a similar experience, which is growing up in a single parent household and how we wish we would have experienced money conversations early on in life.
