Why is it important for us to recover? Recovery is essential for various reasons, and its significance can apply to different aspects of life: physical health, addiction, relationships, resilience, mental well-being, personal growth, and overall quality of life. If, as humans, we desire to live a life in which we are thriving, we must first be willing and put ourselves in a place where we can recover.

This week, join Monica as she outlines step 3 of the 5 to Thrive and why finding a place to recover is important in your journey to thriving.

Let’s be honest: learning to do BOTH Receive and give is AWKWARD!

We hate to break it to you, but as awkward as it is, it’s essential that we discover a place where we can FIRST receive and SECOND give. This step in the 5 to thrive is crucial and impactful for personal growth, emotional well-being, and the creation of fulfilling, healthy, and enduring relationships. Enriching life and the lives of those around us, contributing to a more compassionate and connected world.

BUT WHY receive FIRST and give second?

Why do we have to get uncomfortable to find this kind of belonging?

HOW can I help my clients come to hear and act on this essential life practice?

Attachment pain is so very painful and all of us have clients coming in with that pain, it’s our responsibility as therapists to learn and understand the different styles of attachment so that we are able to identify from our therapeutic relationship with our client, what attachment style our client may be represented in their other intimate relationships.

In order to do this, we must first model secure attachment with our client.

Our series on addiction recovery this past week covered the topic of helping our clients learn to discover, experience, and create a belonging-based community where they can experience the 5 to Thrive.

How do we find TRUE JOY in the midst of Pseudo Joy filling our tanks?

It starts with understanding how to reverse our learnings by adjusting our brain’s neural pathways (a.k.a., neuroplasticity). To do so, we must surround ourselves with healthy people and seek a safe space to practice new skills, leading us to form new habits and ultimately form secure relationships. We start with understanding the concept of joy-identity, which is founded on secure attachment.

In this week's episode of The Place Therapists Grow, we will discuss shifting primary attachments from BEEPS to people and how these components contribute to building a joyful identity, filling in maturity gaps, healing from past trauma, and creating a belonging-based community. No matter our age, pursuing these processes can help us transform in order to live our most joyful life.

Kyle & Monica were able to have the #opportunity to share in a presentation and at our own #CFTInstitute booth about how our team at CFT Institute has partnered with Life Model Works to cultivate an emerging, holistic approach for Trauma/Addiction Recovery and an effective #modality for sex addiction clients and #professionals.

In this episode, Monica gives us a sneak peek into what they spoke about in their session and how Kyle and Monica, like other team members here at CFT Institute, are applying the concepts and methods of the Life Model in their practice in ways that are impactful for their clients as well as their own personal development.

Having a securely attached relationship with God can heal our brains from trauma and give us a sense of clarity about who we are and how we want to live our lives.

A large percentage of humans live insecure lives. Whether it's a lack of security in our identity, our living situation, our family, friend groups, or romantic relationships. There are many areas of our lives that should produce security for us that fail to do so. That is why the concept of Neurotheology as outlined in the Life Model is so important for us to learn, especially as therapists.

It begins with developing a mutual mindset with God, our creator, the one who holds us all close. Securing an attachment to Him where we are thinking WITH Him, and actively becoming one of God's people. Fully experiencing his love and the secure attachment we are all often deprived of in this world.

So how do we do this? Where do we start? Listen in with Monica Mouer, MS, LCMHCS, CSAT, EMDR certified, and founder of CFT Institute as she unpacks Neurotheology and the Life Model concept of how to grow spiritually in a way that helps us to heal.

At the CFT Institute, we exist to resource therapists with skills for personal growth that leads to professional outcomes and it all starts with the transformational concepts of the Life Model. We have discovered that the implementation of the Life Model in our lives as therapists has led to more fulfillment in our personal life and relationship and amazing insight and growth in the lives of our clients as we practice, model, and teach these practices. Why do we need joy? JOY is a relational state of mind! Our goal for emotional wholeness is to build joy that is powerful enough so that other feelings connect to it and find a resting place.JOY is the foundation of relationships. Cultivated by belonging, a unified state of mind where our brains release dopamine = JOY which satiates our soulJOY is the starting point. Where we begin to see what we have lacked and what we need currently to fully heal. JOY is the state we are meant to live in.

75% of the population is living from an infant or child level of maturity. Our society is failing to provide what is necessary to create a thriving population of elders, if this continues we will continue to create communities of infants. As therapists, we are called to value people, all people, based on nothing other than their existence. We have to be committed to our own journey to get to where we need to be to love others well. If we do not do the work to fill our gaps, we do not have what we need to attain elder-level maturity.

At the CFT Institute, we exist to resource therapists with skills for personal growth that leads to professional outcomes and it all starts with the transformational concepts of the Life Model. As therapists, the shootings that have been going on in our culture for the last 20+ years are quite overwhelming! There is a responsibility we have as therapists to be the front lines for mental health. We want to have a psychological pulse on the culture, not only to understand what is happening but to get more clarity on how we might be able to prevent these things from continuing to happen. The shooting this week in Nashville is another devastating blow. It is a symptom of the heartsickness of our culture. Even our responses can be seen as a sign of our sickness. We go into enemy mode with eachother about the causes.

There are three words to describe the sense of learning to live in positivity about circumstances: grateful, thankful and appreciative. To me, these words mean exactly the same thing.

They are three ways to say I am learning to see the good in even the most difficult situations. Living in appreciation is a skill that mature people have learned through trial and error. A Hungry Therapist has an appetite for growth.

Have you listened to the podcast, THE RISE & FALL OF MARS HILL yet?

This podcast is written and produced by Christianity Today and is amazing! I have thoroughly enjoyed every episode. In this episode, I discuss my experience with listening to this podcast series and how I interpret it as a mental health therapist. My name is Monica Mouer, and I am a licensed therapist and supervisor as well as the director of the Center for Transformation. We exist to resource therapists with skills for personal growth that leads to professional outcomes. We have discovered that the implementation of the Life Model in our lives as therapists has led to more fulfillment in our personal life and relationship and amazing insight and growth in the lives of our clients as we model and teach these practices to them. This episode involves the way that I interpret THE RISE & FALL OF MARS HILL through the lens of the Life Model.

The subject of narcissism in leadership is the main topic in the podcast and the Life Model has a LOT to say about that (especially in the book, Pandora Problem by Dr. Jim Wilder). Its important to note that its not the narcissist themselves that is the main problem, but the people around the problem. What this means is that all of us need to get more skilled at being loving and confronting issues at the same times. Listen in to learn more! As a veteran mental health therapist, I have tracked with the resources offered by both Dr Caroline Leaf and Dr Jim Wilder. Both of these amazing professionals offer Christian therapists information about how to connect our relationship with God with our understanding of our neurological wiring as humans. In my opinion, the basic breakdown between Dr Leaf of the Neurocycle Institute and Dr Wilder of Life Model Works is that one is more technical in nature and the other is more relational. This episode discusses Dr Wilder's Life Model (neurotheology) and Dr Leafs (Neurocycle Institute) as both are skills based training programs for rewiring your brain. Both of these programs involve the latest neuroscience research and combining it with our connection to God. For me personally, I have found my home with the Life Model. I find that the depths of insight and strategy for self growth, relational growth and spiritual growth are unprecedented. There is a sense that the Life Model is the gift that keeps on giving. The information continues to unpack itself as it is learned and practiced. The pay off of the Life Model practice is amazing as joy, peace and love is increased more and more over time. Spirituality is a broad concept with room for many perspectives. In general, it includes a sense of connection to something bigger than ourselves, and it typically involves a search for meaning in life. Science is the observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomena. If we’ve been on the earth this long and this is all we can do, there has to be something so much bigger than we know or can fully understand. The human brain is the most incredible thing in the universe.  It always ceases to amaze me that we are willingly to damage it through mistreatment (but that's another topic...lol.   So how do the two (science and spirituality) flow together?  I think that brain science teaches us our felt need for something outside ourselves to attach to and how the connection with that presence can calm us, guide us and inspire us.  What this video to learn more!  Subscribe today!

Hello, I’m Monica. Welcome! I’m a psychotherapist and the director of the Center for Transformation Institute. At the CFT Institute, we partner with therapists for the enhancement of their personal and professional growth. Maybe your journey as a therapist began like mine…I spent many years hungry for deeper healing in my own growth. As a mental health counselor, I sat daily with clients and craved the same depth of healing they wanted. When it came to my relationships and emotions, I was not satisfied with the level of freedom I was experiencing. I tried many approaches including personal counseling and a stronger faith journey and while these were helpful at some level, there was still something missing! I craved more – there were places of pain in my heart that were not healing. I was disillusioned with the lack of consistent peace and joy in my life. This journey ultimately led me to a unique and profound approach to healing called the Life Model. The Life Model is a Comprehensive Approach to Psychotherapy through the Science of Neurology and Mystery of Spirituality. I am so thrilled to tell you that learning about and growing in the application of the Life Model has made all of the difference for me . I have more peace and joy in my life and my relationships are stronger and healthier than ever. My clients are experiencing the benefits of this as well as they are gaining deeper levels of wholeness in their own lives as a result of mine! Now, I want to help you discover your path to emotional wholeness so that you can start living out a more peaceful and joyful existence and help your clients at the next level! These episodes are dedicated to aiding helping professionals in reaching their fullest potential so they can live in true joy and peace and offer that to others! If you want to take your emotional and spiritual health to the next level and you want stronger relationships in your life, please subscribe. The first step on your path to ultimate growth personally and professionally is to connect here with me as we take this journey together. I look forward to seeing you again on the next episode!

There is often a role spouses/significant others play in Borderline Personality Disorder relationships.  People with PBD are often intelligent.  They find creative ways to manipulate situations, but their neurological functioning does not allow them to act with wisdom.  This causes them to appear crazy and out of control. Therefore, we discredit everything they say and do which is not always the way to go because there is oftentimes a foundation for how they are acting. Their significant other may be ignoring or mistreating them in some way  There is always a cycle.  The BPD individual is looking for a lot of attention and intensity.  When that is not provided, the BPD individual will get angry.  It is hard to know if there is true neglect by the spouse but there may be.  It is important to consider what attracted the spouse to the relationship?  The emotional intensity that attracted them in the beginning eventually will be the painful death of the relationship unless one or both of them is mature enough to do something about the the cycle before its too late!
