What does a stolen passport, the Paris Petition Scam, pigeon assault, and a golden retriever have in common? One trip to France gone hilariously wrong. In the summer of 2018, my dad and I joined a tour group traveling throughout France. Soon after getting to Paris, however, we discovered that my passport was gone, leading to days in a frenzy trying to figure out what to do, all the while still trying to enjoy the vacation and appreciate French culture. For this week’s episode, tune in for the amusing, the misfortunate, and the amusingly misfortunate chronicles of our time in France.
In 1997, my eighty-year-old grandfather took a flight for the first time in his life, traveling thousands of miles to visit my dad in Delaware. Only a few days after arriving, however, he began suffering severe lung pain and difficulty breathing, urging my dad to admit him to a nearby hospital. The unbelievable experience that followed would change both of their lives, filling my grandfather’s last days with endless outrage, surprise, and gratitude. Follow along this journey into the past, detailing the final months of a grandfather whose son loved him, and whose granddaughter never got to meet him.
It’s true that I was born in the U.S. It’s true that I moved to China when I was seven-months-old. It’s true that I came back to Delaware when I turned seven. It’s true that even after years of residing in the states, I’m still trying to figure out who I am. In this origin-story episode, hear about my transitions between living in the United States and China, filled with personal anecdotes such as how not to pronounce the word “butterfly”, never fulfilling my promise to a German Shepherd, getting kicked off a plane, and watching eagle cams in elementary school.
