This month we are speaking with Jason Jacoby. We were down in Brady, Texas at the World Championship BBQ Goat Cookoff. Mr. Jacoby supplies all of the goat meat for this annual event and was gracious enough to take some time out of his busy day to speak with us. He discusses everything about goat and the cook-off, their feed store and the Jacoby restaurants.

We're back!
This month we had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Blue Gainey Ranch and speak with Joetta Boyd. She tells us about her early days raising goats and her first national show, were she brought a hair dryer and a pair of dog clippers. So, please sit back and enjoy our conversation with one of the early pioneers of the American Boer goat.
This week we bring you a conversation from the ABGA National Show in Grand Island, Nebraska. Ewing and Donna Downen of Coalgate, Oklahoma went down to New Zealand in the early 1990’s, before most people even knew the Boer Goat existed. It was the new frontier for this amazing breed, and these two were the pioneers of their time. When you drive down the road in this country and see American Boer Goats in many places along the way, you can thank people like this.

The American Boer Goat wasn’t always here in the United States. It took some pretty far-sighted people to see the advantages that this breed can bring to the goat universe, and a lot of effort and creative thinking just to get them here. Once here, they took off like a shot, and things don’t look to be slowing down any time soon.
This month, we’re bringing you a panel discussion with just those people that started things rolling, and who laid the foundation for the ABGA. They sat down with us to talk about the beginning, the rise and the potential futures for this breed that did not exist in the country 50 years ago, but now is a powerhouse in both the commercial and show world. The experts don’t always agree on everything, but in that last thing, they have no doubt. This animal’s time has come.
The JABGA is the future of the American Boer Goat Association – very literally speaking -- and in building anything that you want to be around in the future, investment is key. Whether you’re building a herd, a farm, a company, a country or a family, it takes time, resources, energy, and hard work to make that investment pay off.
This week on Life’s a Boer, we bring you a conversation from Sterling City, Texas. We visited Orsak Boer Goats on the family farm in high summer, and managed to hit one of the hottest days of the year. Rain or shine, hot or cold, this family is out in the thick of an operation that combines many things - show and commercial breeding groups, goats and cattle, and young and old(er) family members. Not only were the ABGA and the JABGA represented beautifully, this visit was also a great illustration of the many purposes of the American Boer Goat, and how this breed can contribute to the building of both farm and family to make both profitable, in more ways than one.
Sometimes those you meet by chance along the way are some of the best experiences. We had the chance to capture an impromptu backyard conversation with three people in the world of goats who understand what small ruminants can bring to the table (literally and figuratively).

This episode we sit down with Kenny Elwood. Strawberry plant producer, Red Angus rancher, show calves, livestock guardian dogs, and American Boer Goats. Kenny supports the meat production idea, which for many was why the American Boers came over in the first place. They're perfectly built for that. As you might imagine, Kenny is a big proponent of the commercial opportunities in the Boer Goat universe, and in addition to his service on the ABGA Board of Directors, he also sits on the board of the American Goat Federation. Plus, he makes some killer jerky.
