My Mom Is Here is the brainchild of Sam Seiff (vocals) and Nick Sare (keys), who suckered their talented Columbia jazz pal Aidan Speckhard (drums) into playing tunes with them on an NYC rooftop. Ever since, My Mom Is Here has been rocking NYC venues with animated originals and innovative covers.

Sam grew up pawing through her parents’ extensive CD collection and her songwriting is thus inspired by artists like The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, New Radicals, and more. Nick started touring with his group, Melt the Band, while in college. Nick's experience playing alongside bands like Sammy Rae & The Friends, Lawrence, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Couch, and Karl Denson (The Rolling Stones), drives the group’s developing sound.

At eleven, Ruthie Craft faced the challenges of a new Tourette’s syndrome diagnosis. No one could have predicted that five years later, she’d be onstage, singing a duet with an international superstar. Over the next decade, she would conquer new challenges and heartbreak, becoming a powerhouse singer-songwriter with millions of streams and her own EP. "Tourette's was my reason to sing," Ruthie shares. "When I sang, my tics went away, and I felt normal, if only for a moment."

As a teenager, discovering Adele’s debut album, 19, cemented Ruthie's passion for music. She began teaching herself the basics of singing and songwriting. "One morning, I looked at the lyrics I had written on the big whiteboard in my room and thought, ‘this is my purpose.’" Without formal guidance on breaking into the music industry, she started performing at open mics and talent shows, eventually winning a contest to sing with country star Keith Urban. At that time, her onstage outfits were a mix of hand-me-downs and thrifted items, reflecting her resourcefulness as a part-time barista.

At 19, Ruthie's whirlwind marriage took her from her home state of Washington to North Carolina, far from her family and friends. As her marriage ended, she found solace in music, exploring new genres like rap and hip hop to rediscover her voice. "The mixture of inspiring lyrics and bold productions made me feel alive," she recalls.

Divorced and determined at 23, Ruthie reached all three rounds of Hollywood Week on American Idol in 2019. "The insecurity I felt from watching a hundred talented singers perform their original songs pushed me to learn how to write my own. I witnessed the difference between singers, performers, and what it means to be both: an artist." Since then, she has collaborated with producers and artists across the country, sharing stages with Sir-Mix-A-Lot, Shakey Graves, Magic City Hippies, Die Spitz, and Raelyn Nelson.

In 2024, Ruthie received a Sonic Guild grant. She explains, "I want to make music that makes people feel alive, comforted, and helps connect them to their own joy and pain." Each performance is an opportunity to "let my emotional filters down and invite the audience to do the same." Her cinematic pop-soul sound features powerful vocals, moody, soulful tones, and slick lyrics, drawing comparisons to Imagine Dragons, early Maroon 5, Amy Winehouse, and Dua Lipa.

Ruthie continues to hone her craft in Austin, TX. Her debut EP, Sound of Blue, is set to release in September 2024.

Matt Krahula is a versatile multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and producer based in Honolulu, HI. He currently plays bass for Grammy-nominated artist Henry Kapono, fronts The Nightmare River Band, and is one half of the chamber folk duo Beyond Hope with Canadian singer-fiddler Sierra Noble. After years of touring the mainland and immersing himself in the vibrant New York City music scene, Krahula relocated to sunny Waikiki. Since 2018, he has become one of Hawaii's most sought-after artists, holding residencies at some of Oahu's top bars and clubs, and opening for major acts like Silver Sun Pickups, Frank Turner, Mike Love, Jerry Santos, and Keola Beamer.

Krahula began his musical journey at the Purchase Conservatory of Music, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Music Performance on Upright Bass. Over the past 15 years, he has toured extensively, written, and recorded music, performing over 500 shows with his band and sharing the stage with acts such as Old Man Markley, The Last Bandoleros, Boy and Bear, Matt Simons, Tokyo Police Club, and Robert Ellis. He has been nominated for an Independent Music Award for Best Alt-Folk Song of the Year and has performed at renowned festivals like Summerfest, SXSW, and CMJ. His music has been featured in TV shows such as "9-1-1" on Fox, "American Pickers," Showtime’s "Gigolos," "Comedy Bang! Bang!," and NHL broadcasts, as well as several commercial campaigns.

Since moving to Hawaii, Matt has earned a reputation as one of the most reliable sidemen in the scene. He is a full-time member of Henry Kapono's legendary Dukes on Sunday Band, the upright bassist for Hawaii's premier bluegrass band Hook & Line, and the bassist for indie rockers 7 Pairs of Iron Shoes. He has also performed with Grammy nominee Sistah Robi Kahakalau, Tavana, Hoku Award winner Josh Tatofi, Grammy nominee Kimie Miner, Alx Kawakami, John Cruz, Keola Beamer, and Brother Noland of Pineapple Express.

While there was a one-off event date in Austin, TX in 2022, the last full-fledged (pre-pandemic) EH tour took place in 2019. The concept for the Experience Hendrix Tour dates back more than 25 years; what started as a single concert at San Diego's Street Scene in 2001 and 2002 expanded by 2004 into a full-fledged national tour. This year's outing marks the 20th anniversary of the Experience Hendrix Tour. This year's tour bring the music of Jimi Hendrix to audiences in the Pacific Northwest, California, Nevada, Arizona New Mexico and eastward through Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee concluding in Georgia and Florida. Most fittingly, the tour kicks off on September 19 in Seattle, Jimi Hendrix's hometown, at the Paramount Theater.

The Georgia Thunderbolts' ascent to becoming heralded as the next torchbearers of Southern rock was far from glamorous. Not long ago, the band found themselves busking at gas stations, stumbling through covers, and traveling hours to Alabama to perform for a sparse audience of a bartender and a three-legged dog.

Fast forward to today, and the Rome, Georgia-based quintet has emerged as a critically acclaimed and globally touring band, defying the sophomore slump with their latest release. Comprising Zach Everett on bass, classical guitar, and harmony vocals; Bristol Perry on drums; Logan Tolbert on guitar; and Riley Couzzourt on guitar, the band's music embodies an earthy and emotive aesthetic that draws from various influences, including late 1960s singer-songwriter intimacy, the blues' yearning, the storytelling of country music, and a hearty dose of arena-ready classic hard rock.

The hero’s journey traces a main character who goes on an adventure, is victorious in a decisive crisis, and comes home changed or transformed. Country artist, philanthropist, veteran, and North Carolina native Rockie Lynne’s life story is truly a hero’s journey.

From his humble beginnings of being left at the door of Barium Springs Home for Children, to touring the world, selling hundreds of thousands of records, and writing songs recorded by superstars, you can say Rockie’s narrative is the stuff of American folklore.

Rockie grew up in Statesville, North Carolina, and was adopted by a Southern Baptist family of limited means. He grew up on Statesville’s dirt roads, and they led him to anthemic success in the entertainment world as a triple threat: a world-class songwriter, a captivating performer, and a diversely accomplished instrumentalist.

Where I Belong deftly merges a musician’s quest for authentic self-expression with a touching search for familial lineage. There’s Rockie’s all-consuming love of the guitar which spans picking out licks on a second hand record player to his post-Army dreams of becoming the next Eddie Van Halen. Incidentally, these finely-honed chops remain intact, and they are a staple of Rockie’s music, dazzlingly displayed in his live-show duels with his fiddle player, Dirk Dowell.

A profound chapter in Where I Belong is Rockie meeting his biological father, Clyde Holloway. The pair share a powerful moment when Clyde gifts Rockie with his prized Martin D35, a guitar that he had owned most of his adult life. “When he gave me that guitar, I felt a closeness to him that didn’t exist before,” Rockie says. Clyde’s guitar has since become an integral part of Rockie’s artistry as a player and a composer because of the significance of its lineage. The newly-penned “My Father’s Guitar,” a single from Love, out March 29th, commemorates this moving moment.

After hundreds and hundreds of watering-hole one-nighters, Rockie got his big break being signed personally by then Universal Music Group CEO Doug Morris. He issued his self-titled solo debut in 2006, and landed three singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. After Universal South folded, Rockie, an accomplished engineer, producer, and owner of his own recording studio, Tone Studios in Statesville, pushed ahead releasing nine solo albums to date.

Rockie has generously harnessed the expanse of his public platform in service of others. He is a veteran, having served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, and this legacy is close to Rockie’s heart. He often performs for patriotic and military events, and his original songs are regularly licensed for use in conjunction with veteran and patriotic-themed programming. In 2004, Rockie co-founded the Tribute to the Troops motorcycle ride to raise funds and awareness for America’s fallen soldiers and their families.

Today, Rockie is back in Statesville where he has a stable and loving family and his own recording studio in which he nurtures local talent, and around town he’s mythologized as an Elvis-like figure with his chiseled-face handsomeness, his down-to-earth charms, and his immense artistic gifts. Looking back on his journey, and through the process of making the documentary and connecting with his biological family for the first time, Rockie reflects: “I went from feeling unloved to knowing I’m loved, and that I’ve always been loved. I found my roots—I am somebody from somewhere.”

For some, the process of making music can appear effortless. For others, bringing one’s music to life might take decades. The music welling up in the heart and mind of its creator, like a fine wine, or in this case, one of the finest debut albums, by any artist, in any genre, in many decades.

One could say that Tommy Taylor has one of those classic “you don’t know me, but you’ve heard me” musician stories. He has spent years as the drummer and backing vocalist behind singer/songwriter (Grammy and Oscar winner) Christopher Cross and guitarist Eric Johnson. Tommy has also played behind: Stevie Ray Vaughan, Charlie Sexton, Will Sexton, Sara Hickman, Charlie and Bruce Robison, Kelly Willis, Jake Andrews, Jerry Jeff Walker, Ray Benson and Shawn Colvin.

Tommy has been preparing himself and his music for years to become the album Across The Stars. It is a recording comprised of what Taylor calls “Chekovian vignettes” - nine cinematic stories filtered through a lifetime of insights and emotions, delivered in his tenor voice that falls somewhere between the lilt of Jackson Browne’s and the edge of Don Henley. Taylor’s lyrics are incredibly personal and incredibly universal simultaneously. Who hasn’t felt like the people in your life were there to “Let You Down?” Taylor describes himself as an observer. However, the songs on this album are filled with the stories and experience you get by living - not by watching. At the end of the 9 songs, you are left with a man’s personal catharsis, and you are the richer for having had the experience.

After years of his friends and colleagues encouraging Tommy to write his songs and get them recorded, Taylor finally went in the studio and started work on the album. With a little help from Christopher Cross, legendary record producer and keyboardist Michael Omartian (Christopher Cross, Donna Summer, Rod Stewart, Amy Grant, Steely Dan, Glen Campbell, Boz Scaggs, Jerry Garcia and Dolly Parton) agreed to play on Tommy’s album. After finishing his work and hearing the final mixes Michael said: “Man, this is a really good album. Everything sounds great. Wonderful songs and the overall production and musicianship is first rate.” That was on top of praise for Taylor’s vocals on various tracks, and his declaration that the song “Everybody’s Gonna Let You Down” “sounds like a smash.” You might catch yourself singing along to that chorus the very first time you hear it.

Michael Omartian’s words are a priceless endorsement, especially for an artist whose debut work has taken a few decades to arrive. But in his Across The Stars liner notes, Taylor explains, “This first effort is a culmination of a lifetime of personal ups and downs, and interests and pursuits.” Isn’t that a perfect description of a life well-lived? Across the Stars was released on September 22nd, 2023.

Zachariah Smith is a 20-year-old singer and songwriter from Wabash, Indiana. His infatuation with music was evident at a very young age, and he grew up singing at every opportunity available. Zachariah made his musical debut on the 21st Season of American Idol earlier this year, where his show stopping musical abilities took him all the way to the top 5. Midnight in Mississippi will be available on all platforms on September 1st. This country rock song was written by Zachariah, his wife, and father-n-law. He and his insanely talented band members produced all the instrumentals for this track. Janet Robin, a Southern California native, began her musical journey under the tutelage of guitar teacher Randy Rhoads. In high school, she became the lead guitarist for the all-female rock band Precious Metal, signed to Polygram and later Chameleon/Capitol Records. After the band's dissolution, Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham handpicked her for his 1992 solo album, profoundly influencing her music career.

In 1998, she debuted with "Open the Door" on Little Sister Records, earning praise for its pop sound. Janet's musical exploration continued with the 2007 acoustic EP "Days of Summer," recorded in Europe. In 2012, she bridged acoustic and rock with "Everything Has Changed," funded by her dedicated fan base. Collaborating with producer John Carter Cash at Cash Cabin Studios, she released the album in Europe through Hypertension Music.

Janet's solo career expanded globally with successful tours in Europe, including headlining shows and festivals. She collaborated with diverse artists, including Lindsey Buckingham, Tommy Emmanuel, and Michelle Shocked. Her original songs found placements in TV shows and films, showcasing her versatility.

Beyond her solo endeavors, Janet is a guitarist in the band "The String Revolution," nominated for a Grammy® for their unique arrangement of "Folsom Prison Blues" featuring Tommy Emmanuel. The band's EP "Red Drops" gained popularity on Spotify, and they received acclaim for their live performances.

In 2022, "The String Revolution" released a cover of "Crazy Train" with Steve Stevens, honoring Janet's late teacher Randy Rhoads' Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame induction. Janet's diverse career includes coaching actress Jennifer Jason Leigh for a guitar scene in Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" and playing in musicals like "Girlfriend," "Soul Doctor," and "Staring into Nothing."

Led by Second Chief Joseph Boudreaux Jr. of the Golden Eagles, the ensemble includes trumpeter Aurélien Barnes, trombonist José Maize Jr., bassist TJ Norris, guitarist Ari Teitel, keyboardist Andriu Yanovski, and drummer Trenton O’Neal. Their fusion of iconic New Orleans funk, reminiscent of The Meters and The Neville Brothers but modernized for the next generation, incorporates electrifying brass and showcases the visual splendor of the Black Masking carnival tradition.

The Rumble's inaugural album, "Live at the Maple Leaf," earned them a well-deserved GRAMMY for Best Regional Roots Album in 2024. Their live performances are symphonies of rich color and propulsive sound, featuring each member taking on vocal duties and engaging the audience with classic Mardi Gras Indian-style call-and-response chanting.

A candid and exclusive interview with Susan Bissett, PhD, President, of the West Virginia Drug Intervention Institute about how they are attempting to reverse overdose deaths.

The mission of the Drug Intervention Institute is to reduce opioid and drug-related deaths by (a) preventing substance use through education (b) reducing overdose through training and distribution related to naloxone and other opioid reversal agents, and, (c) supporting harm reduction and other drug-response efforts.

To fulfill its mission, WV DII is carrying out activities under three objectives – education, collaboration, and prevention.

The West Virginia Drug Intervention Institute (WV DII) began in May 2019, after nine months of study and deliberation regarding the best ways to reduce opioid drug deaths in West Virginia. Funding was promised by the Winston-Salem Foundation from a donor-advised fund established by BB&T (now Truist). The founding members of the board interviewed people involved in and concerned about substance abuse, researched response activities elsewhere, identified possible response gaps, developed the Institute concept, and conducted the search for a president. WV DII is an independent 501(C)(3) entity. In addition, the partnership with an academic institution positions the WV DII with the unique ability to conduct research and analysis of program outcomes.

Nina DiGregorio, a Yamaha string artist, is a classically trained violinist, bass player, writer/arranger, vocalist, and pianist, but is most well known for being a pioneer of the electric rock violin, as well as a music business mogul and entrepreneur. She has performed as a soloist and string arranger with the some of the biggest names in the business. She arranged and performed strings with The Killers for President Obama and on one of their recent albums.

Television credits include the Latin Grammys with Shakira, being featured on the Beyonce “I am…Yours” DVD and both “David Foster and Friends” DVDs and PBS specials, alongside Josh Groban, Michael Bublé, Boz Scaggs, and Peter Cetera among others, as well as the featured soloist with Charice. Other television credits include a performance with Andrea Bocelli for the DVD and PBS special “Amore Under the Desert Sky,” The Muhammad Ali 70th Birthday Celebration, “Michel Legrand and Friends,” “Bell’aria PBS special,” and America’s Got Talent Season One with Bella Electric Strings, of which she is founder, writer, and lead violinist.

She was the solo violinist in Toni Braxton’s band for 2 years. Nina was also featured in a recent Blues Traveler performance, dueling with harmonica virtuoso John Popper on The Devil Went Down To Georgia. Other performance credits include Stevie Wonder, Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, Wayne Newton, Cee-lo Green, John Legend, Johnny Mathis, Smokey Robinson, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Donna Summer, Mary J Blige and Jay Z, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Marco Antonio Solis, and many more.

As a writer/arranger, her work has been heard in shows such as “Toni Braxton Revealed,” “Beyonce I Am….Yours,” The Fab; Beatle’s Tribute Band, The Las Vegas Tenors, The Killers, The Yellow Brick Road Symphonic Rock Show, as well as on many studio recordings.

Nina’s work with her project Bella Electric Strings can best be described as, “imagine if Hendrix played a violin.” Utilizing full effects pedals and blistering solos, she brings to life many famous rock tunes for electric string ensemble. On top of opening for Michael McDonald and Charlie Daniels, Bella recently performed as the featured string quartet with Richard Marx in his Las Vegas show. Richard also hired twenty Bella girls to be featured on camera performing with himself, Kenny Loggins, and Eric Benet for a DirecTV special that aired over the summer of 2016. Bella Strings has also had the privilege of being affiliated with the prestigious “Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp,” performing alongside such artists as Kip Winger and Todd Rundgren at the facility. The group keeps a busy corporate schedule, as well as traveling for Yamaha String Educator Development Seminars, in which Nina’s arrangements are featured around the country to demonstrate the Yamaha Silent and Electric violins.

Nina created/produced a rock production show called “FEMMES OF ROCK starring Bella Electric Strings,” which has been selling out theaters nation wide. Other creations include Bella Bottoms; a disco string show, an LED Laser string show, Trifecta; a vocal string show, Jingle Bellas; a holiday string show, among others.

Nina holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the State University of New York at Buffalo, as well as a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance. She also holds a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. She was a recent recipient of the coveted Distinguished Alumni award from the University at Buffalo; one of the youngest to receive the award.

“The late Irish poet and author John O’ Donohue had this fantastic notion about how there are three key things you absolutely need to have any kind of balance in this damn world: silence, stillness, and solitude. We’re obviously living in a time that’s utterly devoid of any of those three things.” Berman, who just welcomed his second daughter this year, adds, “As much as parenting is this unbelievable well of joy and wonder, it also just quadruples that cacophony. You’re always dealing with the beginnings or the aftermath of chaos. I knew that if I couldn’t find a way to make space for that silence, stillness, and solitude in my life, I’d be a much worse father, husband, and songwriter for it.”

The artist’s own musical journey continues to zigzag through uncharted territory. In 2014, Eddie made his debut with the EP Blood & Rust, featuring his duet of “Dancing in the Dark” with British folk icon Laura Marling. The adored Springsteen cover received praise from Spin, NME, Consequence of Sound, Uncut and more. In the aftermath, Berman’s profile grew on international tours and with the release of his first LP Polyhymnia. He signed to Nettwerk Music Group in 2017 and released his sophomore album Before The Bridge, which saw him reach new milestones – generating tens of millions of streams with prime real estate on coveted Spotify playlists like Your Favorite Coffeehouse, Acoustic Covers, and The Pulse of Americana, and spurring tours with Laura Marling, Tyler Childers, Passenger, Lee Ann Womack, and William Fitzsimmons.

In the midst of all this, Berman and his family relocated to Portland, OR. As he settled into life in his new city, he began making a daily pilgrimage to nearby Forest Park, one of the largest urban forests in the US. He made it a ritual to go on a six mile hike each morning, during which he immersed himself in the books and lectures of great philosophers like O’ Donohue, Rainer Maria Rilke, Thich Nhat Hanh. “I’d hike the immensely beautiful three miles to the top of the trail listening to these incredible thinkers, and then hike back down in silence, unpacking what I’d heard. The constant through lines of these works started seeping into me: the deep solace of nature, the necessity of solitude, and the importance of always trying to see yourself on the threshold to new frontiers. This album came from that strange dualistic aspect of those hikes: one part of me was just trying to quiet my mind as I walked in the woods, and the other part of me was trying to, you know, dissect the infinite nature of the universe — and myself.

With over 27 years on the road, Country Music composer RODRIGO HADDAD has the influence and atmosphere of great artists like Alan Jackson, George Strait, Johnny Cash, Dale Watson, Dwight Yoakam and Jim Lauderdale.

“ Everything makes more sense when you listen to a song on the radio by Merle Haggard, the poet of the common man ” explains Rodrigo Haddad who was in Nashville, TN, the US music city where the artist had the opportunity to be more involved with the segment and can live this whole environment with greater intensity.

During all these years, Rodrigo Haddad who was born in the capital of São Paulo has performed shows throughout the city and state. His music crossed the Southeast and reached the South of the country as well. He performs for several years at the largest Country Music festival in South America in San Pedro, Argentina and his albums have been played on radio in Europe, Mexico and the USA. In fact, it was in Nashville that Rodrigo Haddad performed at the CMA Music Festival, the largest festival of its kind, one of the most striking moments of his career.

Rodrigo Haddad has 6 albums released on digital platforms, there are more than 50 songs composed by the artist himself, songs about life, love, friendships, and stories lived by the artist himself. If you like how custom guitars are designed and handmade then the story of Gary Leddington should be of interest to you. Gary Leddington of Leddington custom handmade guitars spoke with The Trout about how he became an outstanding luthier in this episode of The Trout Show.

Leddington Guitars is a small one man shop based in the historic city of Bath, UK, and is specialised in custom hand built guitars, cases, boutique picks and repair work.

Originally from Worcestershire, Leddington moved to Antwerp, Belgium in 2010 and quickly found himself co-founding a local Bluegrass group or two as well as studying at the world renowned CMB (Center for Musical Instrument Building) in Puurs. It was from this headlong foray into acoustic music and woodworking, along with his background in Fine-Arts that his keen sense of the visual and the aural became inseparably intertwined.

Many instruments later Leddington has moved back to his native UK and has developed a sonic sensibility that produces balanced and responsive guitars and puts particular emphasis on the way they play and feel. These instruments are built by a player, for players.

Aside from the primary acoustic function, Leddington also maintains a strong visual and yet minimal aesthetic that often opts for simple straight lines, uncomplicated appointments and classically balanced forms. Matteo hails from the far-away island of Sicily, born in 1996 and raised outside Palermo, had his family relocated to the US, he might well be the best kept secret in the lineage of great Italian- American players like Zappa, Vai, Satriani, Di Meola, Petrucci, Gambale etc.

Back in the 70’s, his father Vincenzo Mancuso made a name for himself as gifted session player on the domestic scene; it was definitely him Matteo looked up to as a primary source of inspiration growing up. While still in high school (of music), he picked up classical guitar and transverse flute, it didn’t take long for everyone around to understand that a kid prodigy was blooming.
Before long, just turned 12 years of age, Matteo takes his first steps on stage at a local jazz festival and since then his acquaintance with live performances turns into confidence and develops through various line-ups and interactions with top local musicians, including a duo with his dad spanning the complexities of Django Reinhart’s repertoire as well as contemporary jazz classics.

The duo has been twice honored with nominations as “Roots Act of the Year” by the New England Music Awards (2019 and 2022) and as “Americana Artist of the Year” by the Boston Music Awards (2019). They were named finalists for Best Group/Duo in the 2020 International Acoustic Music Awards, and for Best Group/Duo in the 2021 IAMAs, for their song “A Virtue and a Call”. The duo has toured recently throughout Southern Ontario and Quebec, and is currently recording their third full length album with award-winning producer Eric Lichter of Dirt Floor Studios.

The duo takes its name from the salt marsh and tidal flats known as Crowes Pasture, hidden away on the north side of Cape Cod, where the ocean tides recede twice a day to reveal intricate patterns on the shifting sands. Jon Liebman is a world-renowned bassist, composer, arranger, author and educator. He has played electric and acoustic bass in every imaginable setting, from jazz gigs and club dates to full-scale concerts in many of the world’s major performance venues. Grainne Duffy was born in Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan, Ireland and raised in a family of seven. As a schoolgirl she sang in her local choir and also in a family band with her sisters. The band was bred from their love of music, which Duffy accredits to her mother. Not having a television in their home when they were young, her mother instead allowed them to own a family record player, on which they all were encouraged to get a record on their individual birthday’s and Christmas. This broadened their interest in music and they began listening to artists such as Aretha Franklin, The Pretenders and The Rolling Stones. Around that time Grainne discovered Fleetwood Mac and the blues playing of Peter Green, whom she cites as one her main guitar influences. Previous to her solo career Grainne Duffy obtained a degree in music at NUI, Maynooth, Ireland and took part in session work singing with various bands across Italy and France.

Meg and Andrew met in 2019 at an open jam session. At the time, both had put pursuing music on hold while they juggled family responsibilities and time-consuming careers. Meg, an entertainment exec then in her mid-30s, was a self-described “car singer,” but came from a musical family. As a kid, she wrote poetry and passionately wrote down the lyrics to the songs she loved. Andrew has been writing and playing music since high school, but after college got sidetracked by an evolving career as an author, sustainable business strategist, and impact investor. As he neared his 50th birthday, he resolved to pursue music again.

Andrew and Meg’s first project, Ultrasound, a funk cover band, began to perform actively around New York City. A highlight was a benefit concert at Brooklyn Bowl, which found them performing Aerosmith and Run-DMC’s “Walk This Way,” with Meg laying into the Steven Tyler part alongside legendary Run-DMC member Darryl McDaniels. That experience sparked Meg and Andrew’s desire to write songs together. This was Meg’s first time writing and recording original music, and she was exploding with ideas, sending Andrew voice memos and lyric fragments. The two worked collaboratively and nurtured a rapport that reminds one of Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks, the Swell Season, or the xx.

This is the dawn of Twilight Muse. Contemplating their journey, Andrew says: “This partnership has been such an unexpected gift. I hope others are inspired by the idea that a creative pursuit and collaboration can come later in life.” Meg adds: “This calling came and I'm 100% in. It’s never too late to unleash the imagination.”

There’s no mistaking Austin band the Ransom Brothers’ major musical influence; those slide and twinned guitar riffs, fierce fiddle solos and bluesy, soul-infused melodies pay proud homage to the Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker Band and other ’70s Southern rockers, though the band also pledges allegiance to red dirt, outlaw and outlier country, jam bands.

But it’s definitely their own musical chops and songwriting skills on display in each track of their debut album, Resurgence.

“Our goal has always been to be ourselves and write and play what inspires us,” says lead singer and guitarist Sean McHargue, who formed the band with fellow Texas State University graduate Daniel “Sal” Solis (guitars, mandolin). They were a duo when they came up with the name, inspired by Jimmy Stewart’s character in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, but have since added bassist Phil Eckhardt, drummer Aaron English, fiddler John Thomas and keyboardist James Rodman.

“We all have our own styles and nobody tells anyone what to do; we just throw shit in the wok and see if it comes out crispy. It usually does,” says Solis.

But the blend of past and present on Resurgence is intended to serve as more than the band’s calling card: They also hope to reinvigorate some musical corners that have gone little stale.

Grainne Duffy was born in Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan, Ireland and raised in a family of seven. As a schoolgirl she sang in her local choir and also in a family band with her sisters. The band was bred from their love of music, which Duffy accredits to her mother. Not having a television in their home when they were young, her mother instead allowed them to own a family record player, on which they all were encouraged to get a record on their individual birthday’s and Christmas. This broadened their interest in music and they began listening to artists such as Aretha Franklin, The Pretenders and The Rolling Stones. Around that time Grainne discovered Fleetwood Mac and the blues playing of Peter Green, whom she cites as one her main guitar influences. Previous to her solo career Grainne Duffy obtained a degree in music at NUI, Maynooth, Ireland and took part in session work singing with various bands across Italy and France.

Formed with a mutual passion for pushing the boundaries of genre, and heavily influenced by the Grateful Dead and New Grass Revival, the members of Sicard Hollow grew up sick of existing institutions telling them what their music should sound like. Ezra and Beecher Prōch of the band Willow City grew up in a world of creativity, surrounded by art and music and whimsy. The Prōch family made their home in the Hill Country of Texas, but their peripatetic lifestyle opened the boys’ eyes to experiences most children only read about in books…in a sense, it was a wonderland. Movie Composer, Kevin Besignano, spent time visiting with The Trout about composing the music for "As They Made Us" and what it takes to be a movie composer. Kevin Besignano has been known in the music world for the last 2 decades as a touring musician and musical artist. He's toured the world playing in bands such as Unwritten Law, Bullets and Octane and his own band, True Rivals. Having attended Berklee College of Music, Besignano has always been intrigued by jazz, classical, and the art of composing. Kevin's film composing work can be heard alongside artists such as Neko Case and Frankie Lane in As They Made Us. Alex from Kyiv, Ukraine visits with The Trout about what it's like to be a music creator while attempting to stay safe during an invasion.
