Mark and Zac are back !
A new series looking at life from varying perspectives with emphasis on how certain aspects of life including past experiences have created the people we have become today.
This programme is for those who feel they exist 'outside of the norm' and yet somehow manage to function normally without giving too much away...if you are one of us, this space is designed for YOU !
This week Mark and Zac were joined by previous contributor and fellow outsider, Vanessa Dias . Celebrating Zac's birthday inspired the group to explore age and how it impacts our behaviour, attitude and outlook on life.
The question of age also led to further discussion on the idea of numerology and whether numbers are significant, especially as Mark and Zac share a common connection with the number 28.
Mark and Zac share their stories and experiences and discuss how understanding the power of 'gratitude' can open up opportunities and connections by simply being aware and thankful for our life and circumstances.
We do hope you enjoy the show and would love your feedback.

This week's podcast was broadcast live as Mark and Zac explored gratitude and the idea of helping others' to fulfil their potential or needs.
Gratitude is an idea that we all tend to take gratitude for granted, as general P's & Q's were a staple part of middle class Britain, 'Thank You' was just said rather than really ever meant or felt or even understood. . As life takes hold and we go through various challenges and experiences we become only too aware of the imbalance and delicate nature of life.

This week's podcast was broadcast live as Mark and Zac explored 'Human Conditioning'.
The idea that we all tend to 'follow the crowd' in order to adapt to the 'norm', which is a little strange as we are all unique creatures and come from varied backgrounds, with our own unique life experiences...
Nonetheless, it appears important for people to feel as though they are following a predetermined path as a form of life justification.
This in turn can cause all kinds of reactions, including damaging our outlook, mental and physical health.
Going against our nature is a strange thing to do, especially when you consider those who actually do follow their natural skills, abilities and interests tend to live far more balanced and rewarding lives.
So, why do schools and other institutions insist on pushing us away from our natural gifts ?
We do hope you enjoy the show and would love your feedback.

This week Mark and Zac explore the idea of being 'rebellious' and where it comes from within us.
Rebellion is usually an outlet for frustration or disenchantment with rules, order and general 'norms' or expectations within society.
This is usually felt and expressed most openly during teenagehood and this is where the discussion starts.

This week, Mark and Zac are joined by past contributor and follower of the show, Benny 'The Stoic Padawan' a world traveller who has just returned to his native Netherlands and back home with his parents. A situation that resonated with Mark, who also found himself back at home, however, in slightly different circumstances.
In this week's show, Benny shared the challenges of living and working overseas and realised that learning and using a different language and the ability to communicate in that language is an incredibly liberating feeling as well as building the self confidence that comes with the ability to express yourself in another language.
Benny also goes on to share that he also creates and writes in other languages and how this has 'opened doors' to new opportunities and that allowing yourself to be 'vulnerable' is also a great way of getting to understand your true talents and how important it is to 'let go' of all inhibitions.
One of the main reasons for our podcast show is to support and encourage those who feel the interest and desire to do something creative but haven't yet found the confidence to do so.
As creative and expressive types, we can often live too long in 'our heads' and remain hidden 'in the shadows' without giving ourselves the opportunity to just try.

This week, Mark and Zac are joined by past contributor and follower of the show, Vanessa 'The Wellbeing Blogger'. The group discuss the benefits of self expression and being 'in the flow' with particular focus on 'Outsiders Art', people not trained as artists but with the instinct as well as interest to release their creativity through artistic expression.
It is incredibly powerful as well as therapeutic to create art and therefore people should be encouraged to 'self express' and particularly within a safe and non judgemental space in order to find their own style and process.

This week, Mark and Zac discuss 'mortality'. Following the recent passing of Zac's father, it seemed opportune to dedicate this week's podcast to one our biggest followers.
As creative and expressive types, we can often live too long in 'our heads' often putting 'things off' as they appear too daunting and unrealistic to start or even complete.
It is with the awareness and realisation that we only have a limited time to actually do those 'things' that up until now were present only in our imagination and possibly with a little less anxiety and greater confidence.
After all, what is the worst that can happen by trying ?
Mark and Zac also discuss the idea of 'legacy' projects and the connection that such activities can create. Having children is often the very driving factor that starts projects, in the hope that creating something for others, we become the best and possibly truest version of ourselves.

This week, Mark and Zac discuss the benefits of developing yourself by taking creative courses to develop your skills, knowledge and most importantly heighten your self confidence through practice.
As creative and expressive types, we can often live too long in 'our heads' and remain hidden 'in the shadows' without giving ourselves the opportunity to just try.
Courses and programmes are now readily available, either online or at arts centres in your local community. By developing your skills and ability you are allowing yourself to grow and self express which can only be a good thing, as well as potentially getting inspired along the way by meeting like minded people.

This week, Mark and Zac share insights, experiences as well as discuss the importance of having a foundation in place before any form of public performance.
The integral steps required of practice and visualisation are key to ensuring that you can evolve and develop your skills, passions and interests to another level.
Fundamental to this, however, is the self belief and awareness that following your instinctive path is an integral part of who you are. All that is missing is the 'doing', practice and support from family, friends, tutors and mentors to help build that foundation to help you truly believe in yourself and gain the confidence to move away from just thought.
Our podcasts use 'creativity 'and 'expression' as reference points within our discussion as they are integral parts our identity and how we use them as tools and a method of engagement.

Mark and Zac approach this issue from different perspectives ; Zac from the ‘bottom up’ and how going through life’s struggles and difficult personal issues have helped him become a more kind appreciative person, whereas Mark believes that we need to be emotionally independent and comfortable with ourselves before engaging in any relationship and that relationships start from within.

Do you find yourself asking questions at work or even within your social groups ? Does it feel as though by doing so, you feel as though you are 'rocking the boat' of conventionality when all you are intending to do is find a justifiable reason for something ?
As ‘Outsiders’ we often ask questions …as we are expressive types, it is often frustrating when we don’t understand a course of action …this can lead to us being seen as ‘difficult’ or ‘trouble makers’ when in actual fact, as expressive types, all we need is to gain some response or explanation and this is the difference between feeling included or marginalised….
This week, Mark and Zac discuss the ongoing issue of looking at life from the 'outside in' .

This week Mark and Zac discuss the concept of 'visibility', in the sense of being authentic and open as opposed to hiding in plain sight, by blending in with the 'crowd' and therefore providing 'cover' for those of us living within our comfort zones (?).
'The Outsiders' also discuss how creativity is taking a step outside of our comfort zones and requires a certain amount of emotional instability in order to be creative.
Mark shares some insights into his songwriting course that attempts to explore emotions through prompted topics in order to give the writer a platform to work from.

This week Mark and Zac discuss the concept of being true to ourselves in the way we act or behave whilst in 'social environments' such as the workspace, family gatherings and possibly most interestingly in relationships.
'The Outsider' also often ends up fighting against his or her nature by actually wanting to belong to social groups and as a result ends up going against the flow of their truth, which can lead to giving off false signals and result in confusion and misunderstanding to those they engage with.
Mark and Zac attempt to demystify these behaviours as they 'unpeel the layers' of life as an 'Outsider'.

"Change begins at the end of your comfort zone"
Roy. T . Bennett
This week Mark and Zac met up in London's Soho district, a zone that holds deep connection to the arts, creativity and self expression An area that seemed to 'fit the bill' as the duo wandered the streets and revisited areas of interest as well as sharing past insights of times spent living and working in London.
This episode was recorded at the Royal Academy of Arts, well situated within the area and the perfect location to reflect on creativity and expression as well as review the year's podcast episodes and insights gained from their show as well as the special guests that have joined them on the podcast during the year.
Zac shared a profound thought that 'All things are the same, only different' and upon reflection, he was absolutely right, especially when we consider that we are all human beings but with a unique difference in life, experience and of course, our Human Design.
We have really enjoyed creating and producing this podcast and grateful for the opportunity to have met and shared our thoughts and experiences with our guests and for having you as a listener. We will continue to produce more shows in the new year and do hope you will continue to join us as we explore 'looking at life from the outside in' and how we can make the best of life from this different perspective.
Until then, we wish you a Happy and Healthy New Year...
Enjoy !

Epictetus wrote, " no man is free who is not master of himself."
Freedom is within us all and is not, as most of might believe, a location or projected future of some kind.
This week Mark and Zac had a conversation with Benny Voncken, the Dutch Stoic Padawan, currently located in Mexico. Amongst the varied aspects of living as an outsider, Benny shares his life outlook and philosophy as well as the challenges he has faced since he decided to pack up and travel.
The conversation also provided a unique parallel on this topic with Benny moving to Mexico from Dubai, Mark sharing his improbable shift from China to UK and Zac dumping the mortgage for a less complicated life.
The discussion held quite a few 'golden nuggets' of inspiration and insight about making the right life choices and living with the things that we can't change whilst continuing to listen to our inner voice and following our truth irrespective of how challenging it might be for us and for others close to us.
Enjoy !

How do you react or respond to your environment (workspace, home , social etc..)
Do you conform to the 'norm' ? Are you frustrated at not 'being You' in order to 'Get Along' and 'Fit In' ?
This week the podcast looks at why most creative people tend to be 'rebellious' in nature and why this 'attitude' usually develops during the formative years.
Mark and Zac reflect on their own life experiences and share their childhood memories of fighting for their independence and why confidence is vital for self expression and the importance of 'Flow' in the creative process.

This week, Mark and Zac met up to record a 'live' podcast in central London to discuss the idea of social interaction and the internal pressures that come from activities such as parties or meeting friends.
As highly sensitive people, 'Outsiders' usually find social engagement a challenge, as so much depends upon their emotional state and the environment within which they find themselves.
Often, these emotional states are dependent upon factors such as confidence, self esteem and in some cases levels of in-built anxiety.
Mark and Zac discuss these social dilemmas and the pressure of 'fitting in' with the crowd, using their own life experiences as a foundation for their discussion.
We do hope you are finding The Outsiders' approach to life direction and inner freedom refreshing and most importantly helpful with your own journey.
**Enjoy !

Series 3 of Mark and Zac's The Outsiders podcast series ; Storytelling using the Hero's Journey.
Mark and Zac focus on the art of storytelling using Joseph Campbell’s ‘Hero’s
Journey’ framework as basis to share ideas and discuss experiences.
This week's discussion focuses on the dividing line between 'knowing' what we need 'to do' versus the reality of 'taking action' and facing our 'inner fears'.
Knowing that we must push beyond our 'Comfort Zone' in order to get back to 'who' we really are and 'where' we could be in life rather than purely surviving and adapting. The desire to 'break free' needs to be strong followed by 'taking the appropriate action which enables us to move ahead.
Mark and Zac use music and film to highlight their points as well as sharing their own life experiences of taking these important steps and the ongoing nature of the challenges ahead.
We do hope you are finding The Outsiders' approach to life direction and inner freedom refreshing and most importantly helpful with your own journey.

Series 3 of Mark and Zac's The Outsiders podcast series ; Storytelling using the Hero's Journey.
Mark and Zac focus on the art of storytelling using Joseph Campbell’s ‘Hero’s
Journey’ framework as basis to share ideas, discuss experiences and ultimately help the listener understand as well as recreate their own life stories.
A sort of template for life.
Mark and Zac discuss the idea that until we become aware of our situation we are unlikely or even ready for change. This change starts with the realisation of what 'not doing anything about the issue ', is costing us in terms of our physical and mental wellbeing and as a result our emotional connection with ourselves and to others that we care about.
This week, we discuss that we must push beyond our 'Comfort Zone' in order to get back to who we really are and where we should be in life rather than purely surviving and adapting. Clearly the need and desire to break free needs to be strong and then it is down to just doing whatever it is that enables us to move ahead.
Mark and Zac share examples of what they went through in order to make these important steps and some of the reasons that made them act .
We do hope you are finding our approach to life direction and inner freedom refreshing and most importantly helpful with your own journey.

In this episode Mark and Zac introduce the Hero’s journey as a framework and the ideas behind living in our ‘ordinary world’ versus the projection of the ‘special world’ where dreams, perfect life balance and the ideal environment are waiting for us. However, to arrive in this ‘special world’ there are always challenges ahead that must be encountered before access is finally granted.
Should we be careful for what wish for ?

This week, Mark and Zac are joined by fellow Podcaster and Outsider, Gary Jenkins.
Gary shares his incredible life experiences and insights from the perspective of living almost his entire life 'in the shadows'. From a traumatic childhood where his confidence was drained to life in the military, where he lived under the restrictions of confidentiality and as a civilian, in many guises from Cowboy , Christian Minister to Life Counsellor; likening his world to that of living as a 'ghost' as no one could relate to his background. Gary shared that he always followed his instinct in life and firmly believes in the quote ; The truth will set you free

Mark and Zac met up in London for their monthly 'live' recording and the venue was the historical bookstore 'Housmans' in Kings Cross. An established bookshop and meeting place for London (and UK's ) various radical movements over the years, therefore, an ideal place for Outsiders to record a podcast !
If you are interested in finding out more about 'Housmans' as both a radical bookseller and its history, please go the link below;

Mark and Zac, discuss the importance of books and bookshops as places and locations where people can find peace, escape and adventure as well as within the books themselves.
As 'outsiders', we are the voices and storytellers of the world, whether it is in poetry, music, fact or fiction and we do so as both a necessity to share our stories and views as well as a form of catharsis.
This week we discuss various forms of written genre and our preferences and the stories behind our choices as well as why we create and of course, what we recommend to would be writers and performers who have yet to find or express their 'inner voice'.

This week, Mark and Zac discuss the importance of self expression. It is vital that we find our authentic 'voice' and direction in life in order to be both productive and as a result, have a balanced relationship with the world.
Mark and Zac share their own life experiences and realise that many of their issues with self belief and confidence are a byproduct of their childhood and the values that were passed down on them. The old phrase 'Children should be seen and not heard' is one that is used as an example of how unhealthy and destabilising this thought process is and that all children should be encouraged to follow their inner voice , albeit in a supported and constructive manner.
As ever, film and music are used as a foundation for this discussion as expression and creativity are central to the podcast theme.
Zac also shares one of his a self expressive tools, a journal that enables a cathartic release and helps clear any negative thoughts or experiences.

This week, Mark and Zac discuss the idea of constantly being 'on the move' in search of the perfect location that represents the environment most suited to our sensitivities. As ever, this represented from 2 different perspectives, Zac has always lived in the same area in the UK for most of his life, whilst Mark has travelled and lived overseas for many years .
In essence being 'outsiders' within our own local community and as visitors to other countries.
The common realisation from the discussion is that irrespective of where we live, 'home' has always been within.
Mark and Zac also discuss their own personal life experiences and share the secret to inner peace and balance comes from the ability to adapt to life circumstances as well as being grateful for the good things in life irrespective of where we are or what our current situation is.
There was even time for Mark to share one of his poems that relate to the topic of inner versus external travel !

This week, Mark and Zac are joined by Anna Maria Bagany, fellow Outsider and Human Design specialist. This is the first of many planned interviews with other fellow Outsiders in order to discover how life can be lived fully whilst accepting the various social challenges that exist being an 'Outsider.'
Anna describes her life, moving away from her family home in Hungary and her inner search whilst travelling and why she has now settled in Canada.
We also discuss how Anna uses Human Design to help and support people looking to better understand their strength, purpose and life direction as well as explaining how both she and Zac are 'Generators' within this mapping system, whilst Mark is an 'Manifestor'... (Enough said !)..))
This week, Mark and Zac discuss the idea of 'vibration' as a source of energy and frequency that is within us and depending on our state of mind , how we engage with the world.
This energy is a little like a solar power that if sufficiently 'topped up' allows us to absorb and experience positive feelings which in turn attracts positive response and opportunities.
The discussion also focuses on how we can choose our attitude and the impact of these choices on our ability to navigate life. Why it is important to be aware of this energy as well as sharing experiences and approach in order to connect with this energy field .
Mark and Zac discuss 'the flow' as a means of doing things that are both productive and compelling as well as the selected methods they use in order to raise their own vibrations.

This week, Mark and Zac discuss the idea of being in the present, the 'here and now 'as opposed to living in our heads. The 'past', no matter how good, bad or indifferent, is just that, whilst living in 'projection of the future' means that we cannot experience the reality of 'now' and it is almost a form of madness to be putting everything on hold on the basis that tomorrow will be better, when we can't possibly know this.
Mark and Zac attempt to underline this through life experiences, storytelling and readings of their work based around the topic of 'being' in the present moment in order to live and feel the joy of living irrespective of our circumstances rather than being 'locked' away in the past or in future projection.

This week, Mark and Zac discuss the idea of an 'out of body' experience.
An 'out of body' experience usually occurs during a stressful or uncomfortable moment when we feel overwhelmed and want to be anywhere other than facing a specific situation.
In other words 'overlooking' a situation seemingly outside of our bodies...this is a neuroscientific experience or possibly considered paranormal, however it does happen. Mark and Zac share their own experiences.
Have you ever experienced this ? If so, why not share with us in our facebook group, we love to hear from our listeners.
Using the film 'The Matrix' as an example, The Outsiders discuss how the answers are within us and it is purely down to us to follow our instinct and act.
We also discuss how symbols, colours and numbers are significant in the way we think and behave and how they represent our emotions.

This week, Mark and Zac discuss the importance of imagination and creativity in storytelling, specifically in relation to connecting with children and expanding their outlook and mindset.
Giving yourself 'permission' to 'act' and 'do' rather than purely 'consume' is important as well as cathartic and rewarding . Children's minds are constantly developing and it is through stories that connection to concepts as well as morals and human behaviour are nurtured. Mark and Zac share their own personal experience with creating and sharing stories with their children and the benefits that come from this labour of love.

This week Mark and Zac meet up on the famous Kings Road in Chelsea, London to record their 'live' podcast. The reason this location was selected was its place as a famous backdrop to the revolutionary punk movement in the UK during the 1970's.
Punk was a radical movement against the establishment and government's failure to listen to or accommodate the growing disillusionment of its population based on its flagging economy and repressive systems. Resulting in the youth of that time feeling excluded and as a result causing a rebellion within society , the punk movement had arrived. Punk was created by and for societies 'outsiders' and a fitting topic for today's global issues.
Mark and Zac look back at their own experiences with Punk as well as discussing where the next cultural revolution may arise. Change is on its way.

This week, Mark and Zac discuss relationships using personalities from our favourite fictional characters found in novels and films. This is in some ways a continuation from the previous podcast (series 2 episode 5) as it is apparent that many similar behaviours, attitudes and values of an Outsider are portrayed in these characters and therefore through the eyes of their creators.
Relationships at the very best of times are complex and the added dimension of self protection, self isolation and commitment become even more apparent when comparing these characters to those of a day to day outsider...because in essence, they are outsiders too !
There are thrills and spills aplenty as you will hear Mark single handedly swipe his microphone off its stand whilst remaining in control and composed ..

This week, Mark and Zac discuss and explore why 'The Outsider' character type is so widely used in storytelling.
No matter what your interest , the world seems to love or cheer on 'the underdog' or the character that has to overcome various hurdles in order to endure and win the day. You only have to think about most of the 'superheroes and villains' to realise that these characters are 'Outsiders', either banished or in most cases 'self isolated' from the world in general.
More often that not, these characters have been hurt, injured or alienated during their lives and have chosen to self isolate or avoid relationships other than the flirtation or dalliance with others as a temporary measure but prefer solitude to avoid further hurt or conflict.
Can you relate to any particular character and if so, why ?
Part of the reason, (other than a sort of catharsis), we choose to focus on this topic is that we want to help clarify through discussion, this particular mindset and bring with it, some kind of solution, advice and insight into this condition that affects so many people and through this forum help those of you who want to gain clarity and purpose as well as a kind of understanding and self acceptance.

Life is an adventure and it is important that we can reflect on the past in terms of understanding the clues in terms of what has served us well and ...not so well in order to learn and develop on a personal level. It is also useful, as well as exciting, to understand that we are creating new chapters every day based around the actions we take, these will provide us with momentum and fresh challenges as we seek our internal 'holy grail'.

Mark and Zac meet up again for a 'live' podcast discussion, this time in the woodlands of one of London's most central and beautiful parks to explore the challenges and rewards of following our natural instinct and going against conventional standards. Taking those brave steps that lead to a world of inner and possibly external reward.
We all to often prefer the safety of just adapting and following a routine that is, in essence, purely for daily survival rather than taking action and doing the things that are the keys to unlocking our truth, potential and inner gifts.
Are you ready to take a risk ? Listen to this week's podcast.

Mark and Zac set off on another investigation around self awareness and the impact of not following our true nature. Very often we all just adapt to life and push aside any internal conflict or emotion by going into our 'comfort zone' and very rarely dealing with those issues 'head on'. The impact on those of us 'sensitive' and aware enough can be quite dramatic and often lead us into self doubt, confusion and a loss of self belief and this in turn can cause self harm and internal health issues.
The aim of this series is come up with some insights, solutions and support for those who feel and can relate to emotional 'self isolation' and the need to 'break free 'in order to reconnect with our authentic nature.
The Outsiders investigate the impact of communicating from a place of uncertainty. One of the issues facing outsiders is belonging or 'fitting in' to society, mainly as the foundations or understanding is based around an overhyped sense of self or conversely low self belief or esteem.
This is due to a lack of clarity or empowerment during our formative years. The outcome of this, is finding the balance in our communication style and as a result makes fitting in a daily challenge.

This week, Mark and Zac discuss the concept of 'Success' ; what it means, how it looks and feels. As Outsiders, we may well be successful or have been successful in the conventional sense of the meaning, however, it doesn't necessarily mean that we have enjoyed or even felt the joy of success, more a sense of survival in order to maintain appearances or to conform with societal demands.
Success is relative and means different things to different people, however, it is an interesting topic and the podcast examines the idea and outcomes as well as responding to some posts from listeners.
Mark and Zac discuss the importance of creativity and how it impacts on our lives. Many of us are creative and expressive beings and yet, despite being in tune with our nature, tend to push this aside in our 'daily lives' in order to pursue careers, practical daily issues and other life commitments. Some of us, in touch with our creativity, often find reasons to 'put off' or procrastinate for fear of judgement, or lack the confidence to try or participate in the very things that will in fact liberate us.

In this week's episode, Mark and Zac discuss living life in self denial, going against our nature and as a result, creating a 'persona' that represents an acceptable face for those around us. This can and does work for a while, until the mask slips.

Do you feel disconnected from those around you and with life in general ?
Mark and Zac explore how becoming detached 'within' is often a result of living in denial and that by living through the eyes of others is both unnatural and unhealthy.
This episode reflects on how relationships can only truly develop once we are aligned with our authenticity and that by living with false expectations based on others' perceptions of us will only lead to disappointment.
It is fascinating to discover that irrespective of where we start out in life, we can end up in similar circumstances and paths to others from different backgrounds. This observation leads into our latest podcast 'Different perspectives' .
Becoming an Outsider is not a choice, rather an outcome of circumstances that have to adapt to and learn from through our own life experiences.
Outsiders are faced with many challenges and therefore need to adopt a 'fight or flight' mentality, luckily both Mark and Zac are fighters ! (The friendly kind of course..)
In this episode, Mark asks Zac about his story and how he fought through severe depression using the arts as well as his own creativity as form of catharsis and a method of helping others.

Life can get complicated and never is this more true than when we end up adapting to life rather than following our instincts and natural talents. In this week's episode, Zac asks Mark some questions relating to why and how he became an 'Outsider' and how he managed to find his way back to his 'truth'. As always, Mark and Zac stick to their theme , using creativity and expression as their foundation.

Mark and Zac investigate and discuss the idea of community and what it means and feels like to belong.
Whether this relates to family, friends, clubs or going to events, it is always nice to belong to a group of likeminded people. This does, however come with a 'flip and can lead to feeling isolated or 'cut adrift' based on whether we are prepared to join 'the herd' or follow along blindly on the basis that we are accepted within the community.
