The Soul Sisters Speak Out podcast aims to empower people affected by domestic abuse to live without fear. This podcast has a mission to share stories of those who have been affected by domestic abuse, sharing their own experiences and how they move forward in their lives. We will also have professionals and coaches come on board to share some top tips on how to stay strong, stay in control and recognise your own self worth. It is produced by the charity Soul Sisters: Empowering People who provide advocacy, signposting of key information, peer support, one to one or group sessions, coaching and mentorships. All these services are available online and in person.
In this week's episode I want to talk about International Women's Day and the theme of Break the Bias. How are you supporting to break the bias and what does this theme even mean to you? How are you ensuring that those around you are breaking the bias too?

In today's episode I am joined by coach Karen Warner who is a coach working with men to give them space to talk about things they may not feel able to with others. Karen shares with us her own journey of domestic abuse and what led her to set up her coaching practice tailored to men. We also discuss concepts such as gaslighting, male suicide and why men might find it difficult to open up.
About Karen:Karen Warner is the founder of Achieving My Intentions Life Coaching. She is certified in NLP and Timeline and have many years experience in supporting people to achieve goals, step by step in their daily lives.
Karen would like to be a resource for the lovely community of men out there, who are looking to explore their lives, to see how they can achieve their goals and be empowered and successful in reaching them. She firmly believes that the hardest step in any journey is the first one but then you are on the path to living your best life!
She is a 53 year old mum and started eating healthily recently as the middle age spread had spread a bit too much!

In today's Soul Sisters episode I talk to Katie Roberts who highlights another form of domestic abuse that is talked about less often. Katie bravely shares her journey of abuse from a close friend, the impact it had on her life and what steps she took to ensure the abuse ended and that recovery took place. We deeply appreciate Katie sharing her story to help others.
About Katie:Katie Roberts is an Essex girl who’s been living and working in the North for 12 years. A former journalist, she’s found a new career in arts marketing and is now working at Your Trust in Rochdale. Her free time is dedicated to her cat, Trevor, going to gigs and festivals, eating vegan junk food, walking on the moors, following West Ham United and generally refusing to grow old gracefully.

In this week's episode I talk to Dani Burke, a survivor of domestic abuse. Dani talks about her experience in her abusive relationship and life following abuse. She is a true survivor and shares her tips and advice on how to stay safe, how to plan to leave and how to flourish in your new life.
About Dani:
I am Dani Burke and I am 41 and from Rochdale, I’m a mum a business owner and Artist but more importantly a survivor . I have faced many challenges throughout my 41 years including sexual abuse,fleeing from a domestic violent relationship and cancer. I have overcome an heavy independency on drink and drug and suffered with poor mental health throughout the years to a point where I’ve been hospitalised on numerous occasions . I want to tell my story to inspire women to show women if I can do it so can you if I can gain the strength and turn my life around then you can also and I am not ashamed of my story because it’s made me who I am today and part of me Sure it’s hard and uncomfortable and at time and in some parts I’m ashamed of my story but the importance of raising awareness and helping others outweighs that and it’s important to tell others if I can do it so can you.

Today I'm interviewing Khalid Choudry, a Facilitator for our mens group and Zephy Luboya Bongo, a service user and Volunteer. Both of these men have experience domestic abuse and now support other men to share their experiences and seek support. This is a really important conversation about mens experience of domestic abuse and some of the challenges they face.
In our first episode I talk to Shalina Litt. We discuss the impact of domestic abuse, the different types and also her own personal experience. Shalina also shares with us how important it is to shine your light after domestic abuse and find a way forward.
About Shalina:Shalina Litt is a Creative Educator with over 20 years of experience of working in School Based Environments teaching and training alongside public speaking on different Media Platforms. Shalina graduated in 2006 with a BA Hons Early Childhood Studies from City Birmingham University and went onto teach in the middle east for the last 6 years.
