What does it mean to have your own back, and why is it important?
Let's start with what it looks like for someone else to have our back.
When a friend has our back, it means that no matter what's happening, we can count on them to be there for us in a kind, compassionate and supportive way. They will be there for us and on our side.
You hear them tell you, "I've got you," "I am here for you!" and "You can count on me."
So having your own back means you treat yourself exactly like your friend would treat you and the way you would treat her.
It is you being there for you, no matter what. There is no beating yourself up for the decisions you make because you trust that you are making the best decisions at that moment, and there is no such thing as a failure, only learning and growing from what happened.
But most of us have never been trained to have our own back; instead, we've been taught that to get ourselves to do something or not do something, we have to beat ourselves up.
It's crazy that we have come to believe that beating ourselves up is how we look after ourselves, but it is not!
Having your own back is not natural to you right now because you don't know any other way. So having your back starts with having self-compassion for yourself for where you are right now and then putting into practice the skill of training your brain to believe in yourself, trust yourself and know that anything is possible for you in your life!
🔥 You'll discover why you don't have your own back and what to do to start taking care of yourself and being your own best friend.

You've tried all the diets, and you know what to eat, yet you find yourself overeating time and time again.
You're at a loss for why you can't stop giving in to the food that's not on your diet plan.
You're feeling so frustrated and wonder that there must be something wrong with you, Asking yourself, "why do I want the chips so bad, and why can't I stop myself?!"
I'm sure you're thinking that if only you had more willpower or discipline, you would be able to stop yourself from giving in because, isn't that what you have been made to believe?
Isn't it more willpower and discipline you need to stop yourself from grabbing the chips when you step into the kitchen after work when your brain is consumed with thoughts of everything that went on and how:
You didn't do a good enough job
Or
You are not a good enough nurse
Or
You could have done a better job
If this is you, thinking you just lack willpower and discipline, I get it.
But what if it's not that you lack willpower or discipline?
What if in that moment when the desire for the chips is so intense, it's because you have never been shown that you are craving those chips because eating them is your way of distracting yourself from what is really going on inside of you?
All those diets you have tried have not worked long term to stop your overeating because they do not help you see and understand WHY you want the chips so badly.
In this week's episode, I'll show you the number one belief I see going on inside my clients and that you may also have that if you have it, it will sabotage you around food.
This belief shows up in many areas of our lives, leads to our desire for food, and sends us overeating.
🔥 If you are ready to find out the belief that is holding you back from ending your overeating, you will want to listen to this week's episode, Episode #65: The number one belief sabotaging you around food on Weight Loss For Nurses

Do you believe that you don't trust yourself around certain foods?
The biggest mistake I see people make is thinking because they don't trust themselves around certain food, they have to restrict themselves from ever having that food because having some leads to eating until it's all gone.
And I get it, everyone tells us the answer is just don't allow yourself to eat any chocolate, cookies or whatever your trigger food is, and you won't have a problem, right?
But let me ask you this, does everyone who allows themselves to eat sweets and treats overeat them?
No, so what ends up happening if you continue to restrict those foods and hold onto that belief that you don't trust yourself to have them, you will stay stuck in the cycle of:
Restrict ... willpower your way through... give in... eat way more than you wanted... shame and regret... eat more of your trigger foods because "what's the point, you've already overeaten"... feel even worse about yourself... restart restricting again.
Rinse and repeat!
So let me ask you, do you really want to keep thinking that you can't trust yourself around those foods and continue to feel anxious, nervous and worried about eating them and stay stuck in the cycle or do you want to know how to have the foods you enjoy without any shame or regret.
🔥 If you are ready to learn a completely different way of eating that leaves you with peace and trust around food, then listen to this week's podcast, weight loss for nurses!

The biggest mistake most people make is thinking they can't stop overeating during the holiday season.
And I get it. Everyone says that the holidays are the time for enjoyment and celebration and food is part of that. So it's easy to fall into the trap that indulging in festive food is part of the holidays.
Let me ask you. Does everyone who goes through the holiday season overeat? No, and you could actually end up gaining weight and starting January off like you did last year if you hold onto that belief.
But if that were true, then everyone who goes through the holiday season would overeat, right? And we all know that's not the case. If you keep holding this belief, you could end up starting January off the same you do year after year, trying to gain control over food so you can lose weight.
🔥 In this week's episode of the Weight Loss For Nurses Podcast, I'll show you how you can actually enjoy the holiday season without overindulging in all the sweets and treats.
Not sure where to start on your way to ending the overeating and emotional eating? You can click here and set up a free mini-session with me! Together we can figure out what you need to get started, and then we'll see if I can help you further so you can be happy and enjoy your life.

Are you already stressing over how you will get through and enjoy the holidays- Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's when it comes to all the food that will be available, especially the food you know you enjoy eating?
You are also stressed thinking about how you can enjoy yourself without overeating and feeling so full and then regret how much you ate.
How many holiday seasons have gone by with you going through this same worry and stress?
If you are anything like me or my clients, it was way too many years.
And because we think the only way to control ourselves around food is by dieting, and there is no way we want to diet over the holidays, we often give up and resign to the fact there is nothing we can do.
We say, "oh well, I'll get back on track and start again once the holidays are over."
I want to help you make this year different.
🔥 In this week's episode of the Weight Loss For Nurses Podcast, I will show how you can get control of your eating, and it is not by restricting food but by becoming aware of why you are overeating in the first place.
Two reasons why you are overeating are that you are mindless eating and emotional eating.
Once you become aware that you are doing these, it becomes so much easier to gain control over the food.
You will learn the difference between the two then you can decrease how much you are eating, and that is how you feel in control around food without having to diet or use willpower.
It's time you enjoy the holiday season without the added stress of fearing food.

What is food to you?
It's my best friend
It's my enemy
It's a complicated relationship!
We have relationships with people, AND we also have our relationship with food.
You may not even think about having a relationship with food or that your relationship is healthy, but is it?
Sometimes a bad relationship with food can appear as a "healthy" one.
It's you believing what diet culture is telling you that food should be restricted and deprived.
Is that really healthy?
What kind of relationship is this with food?
Restriction, deprivation, and all the other diet rules do not lead to a healthy relationship with food.
Why? A healthy relationship with food is about how and why you choose food, not about the food itself.
Our relationship with food affects every aspect of our life because having a positive relationship with food means food no longer consumes so much of our mental time and energy. When food is no longer the center of attention in our life, we can be present with others and truly enjoy our life.
🔥 In this week's episode of the Weight Loss For Nurses Podcast, I will go over some signs that your relationship with food isn't healthy and then show you what a healthy relationship with food does look like.

I will show you how to get through Halloween without eating all the candy in sight on this week's podcast episode.
You see, most people think candy, chips and chocolate bars are "bad" foods, so they restrict themselves from having them. And what happens when you tell yourself you can't have something? First, you want it even more; you crave to have them.
Then the craving for them gets so intense that you try really hard. You white-knuckle your way past the candy bowl wishing you had more willpower, which you never have enough of, so you give in and eat not just one or two but enough to make you feel so guilty and ashamed.
You then beat yourself up with thoughts like, "there must be something wrong with me," "I'm not disciplined enough," or "I failed at yet another diet; I'll never be able to stop myself from losing control around food."
What you do next to combat how much you ate the next day, you restrict and deprive yourself yet again but even more, doing this keeps you in the yo-yo dieting cycle of death.
Listen in, and I'll show you how you can break free from feeling so out of control around the Halloween goodies by sharing one of the five strategies I cover in my Food Freedom program. And in fact, you can use this TODAY, and when you do, it will drastically change how much you eat, or you might not choose to have any.
So, the most important strategy to start using right now is to stop the "shoulding."
Why?
Because when we focus on the "shoulding" we are not paying attention to what it is we actually want to do, what is right for us, and what we need to help us at that moment.
🔥 So, in this week's episode, I will talk about the "shoulds" and the "shouldn'ts" so that the candy bowl doesn't have control over you.

Do you believe you are a failure because you can't figure this overeating thing out?
Let me ask you...
If you were a failure and couldn't figure things out, how did you get through school to become a nurse and then do your job?
So you are not a failure at everything, right?
You are capable of figuring this out, right?
So if you believe you are a failure and can't figure things out, your brain will send you the message of what's the point of trying?
Or,
You'll try it a bit, but you're done the minute things get challenging, right?
What if you believing that you are a failure and that you can't figure this out is the one thing that is sabotaging you?
That belief is holding you back.
But the good news is that belief is not true. It is only a thought you have because you have said it to yourself over and over every time you attempted to figure things out with your overeating, and it didn't work.
Yup!
Join me this week, where I'll help you find the beliefs holding you back from reaching your goals and what to do with them so you can end the struggle with food to have more mental space and enjoy life.

All you want is to end feeling so controlled by food.
To stop thinking about food all day long and the battle to not eat.
In this week's episode, I'm here to show you that you don't need more willpower, another diet, or to throw out all your favorite foods.
What you do need to know is this...
The one thing holding you back from gaining control over food and having food freedom is that you need to BELIEVE!
You need to BELIEVE that you can stop overeating and emotional eating.

Are you following a diet you heard is working for so many other people, but it's not working for you?
You watch the scale bouncing up and down and feel frustrated, thinking, "What's the point? So what happens? You quit.
In this week's episode, I'm sharing two reasons why the scale keeps going up and down and what you can do to end that.
It's not that something is wrong with you.
It's you believing that the diets know best what you 'should' eat.
And
Those diets do not take into consideration that when you have a day at work where the patient is ringing the call bell all the time or you get one more patient at the end of the shift and the shift ends, you walk in the door so tired and eating what the diet has planned for you is the last thing on your mind.
🔥 Listen in as I'll share with you two reasons I see with myself and my clients that have the scale jumping up and down.

You're putting in the hard work following that restrictive and depriving diet aiming to get those 2lbs a week off.
You've done the math calculations in your head. All the diets out there tell you that you should be losing 2 lbs a week, that's 8 lbs a month, and that will get you to your goal weight in 6 months.
So you jump on the scale every day, watching and wishing that the number will go down quickly and consistently, but it doesn't happen.
It's not going as down as fast as you had hoped. So you're feeling frustrated and disappointed and find yourself having a cheat day here and there. You're giving in to those donuts in the breakroom or eating what you want when you are out with friends because you deserve to have fun and enjoy yourself.
And then what happens as the months go by and the scale isn't giving you what you hoped for? You give up! You quit!
What if I told you that believing you should lose weight faster sets you up to quit?
Yup!
If you focus on thinking you need to lose weight faster and it doesn't happen, how do you end up feeling? Will that feeling motivate you to stick with your diet? Probably not.
So what do you do then?
🔥 You realize that losing weight does not follow a timeline, that it's trial and error. It's learning how to lose weight in a way you can keep it off.

Today I'm talking about perfectionism, which can be very sneaky because we believe having high standards for yourself is good.
It's a belief that we must do everything perfectly ALL the time, and if that doesn't happen, then we have failed, that there is something wrong with us or that it proves that we are not good enough.
What happens is that one little mistake leads to us tormenting ourselves with self-bashing thoughts. It takes a toll on us mentally and physically.
When it comes to weight loss, perfectionism can show up as all-or-nothing thinking, meaning if we can't follow our plan perfectly, what's the point that leaves us quitting and feeling even worse about ourselves?
So what do we do?
In this episode, I talk about how there is no such thing as perfect; you are perfect just the way you are with all your flaws, imperfections and failures. You are perfectly imperfect.
🔥 It's learning to see those failures from a different perspective and giving ourselves the kindness and compassion we need.
Join me this week so you can finally get off the hamster wheel of perfection that keeps you stuck.
In this week's episode, you'll learn:
✔️ Why do we strive for perfection
✔️ What effect it has on us, especially with our ability to lose weight
✔️ How being perfectly imperfect is the answer

It's September, and so many people are ready to get back on track with losing weight; if that is you, listen in!
You may think that the complicated part of losing weight is figuring out what diet to follow that shows you what to eat and how much to eat, but that is not the complicated part. If it were, then we would not have an obesity epidemic.
Anyone can google what they should eat and how much to lose weight. And if you have ever dieted, you already know what to do.
The complicated part of weight loss is you need to know:
-How to stay committed to yourself by following your food plan
-What are your beliefs about yourself
-What are your thoughts about food and the situations around you
-How to shift the habits that have you overeating
-Learning how to manage all your feelings, so food is no longer your go to
It all boils down to learning how to manage your mind because what you think or believe creates how you feel, which drives the actions you take or don't take.
So if you want to lose weight for the last time, you have to go beyond food and exercise, which is not what diets offer.
There are three things that all stem from your brain that will make it difficult for you to lose weight, and they are:
-You Unconsciously Eating
-Your Emotional Eating
-You giving into Cravings and Desires
🔥 I'll show you how these three things create your struggle with losing weight, and they all boil down to your thoughts and feelings.
In this week's episode, you'll learn:
✔️ Why it isn't another cookie-cutter food plan you need
✔️ The three things that are sabotaging you
✔️ What you need to do so you start losing weight in a way you can keep it off.

Do you find it challenging to stop the stress eating, especially when you feel so drained at the end of your day?
That urge to eat the ice cream is strong, and you give willpower a try but it never works for very long.
The reason why it's so difficult to break the habit of stress eating is the comfort that you are actually seeking.
You are comfort eating.
You are eating to get comfort from your thoughts. Comfort from how you are feeling. All you want is to feel better, and you have a belief that eating gives you the comfort you are seeking to have you feeling better.
🔥 There is a way to end the comfort eating, and in this week's episode, you will learn all about how your beliefs are so powerful and then how a technique of "Zooming out" will break the cycle of turning to food to feel better and what you can do instead.
In this week's episode, you'll learn:
✔️ Why it's so difficult to stop overeating when you feel so drained
✔️ How to shift what your beliefs are by using the "Zoom Out" Method
✔️ What else can you do to give yourself comfort other than eating

Self-loathing is a topic many people don't like to talk about, but we have to acknowledge this so we can move past it so we can get to our goals.
So what's really going on...
At times we can feel bad about ourselves, and that's normal. It's normal because our brains are wired to point out the negative. After all, that is how it keeps us safe. But unfortunately, this leaves us with a negative feeling that does not feel good.
A negative thought happening here and there might not affect us much, but when we find ourselves consistently with negative thoughts that, for the most part, are very self-critical, that indicates self-loathing.
So self-loathing or self-hate goes on because of how we think about how our body looks, how we see ourselves in social situations or how we handle things going on at work... all these are our thoughts/opinions.
When we get into that self-loathing cycle, we put ourselves down because of our opinions of ourselves, which in turn creates how we feel. So if you think you are not good enough or something is wrong with you, and you feel shame, disappointment, and hopelessness, this will determine the actions you take or don't take.
And the actions you take from the place of negative thoughts and feelings will never get you to your goal... you ultimately give in and give up.
The good news is that those thoughts you have are optional. You don't have to think anything is wrong with you; you can think something better instead.
🔥 Listen to this week's episode where I'll share some practical advice and exercises you can start using right away to have you feeling better, and from that place, it will be so much easier to do the work needed to lose weight for the last time.
In this week's episode, you'll learn:
✔️ What is self-loathing
✔️ Why we do this to ourselves
✔️ How we can use self-appreciation to shift it

We think we need willpower when we have the desire or urge for the donuts in the breakroom occurs. Your wanting it feels so overpowering, but it's not willpower you need.
Why?
Because willpower doesn't work, as long as you have that desire for the food, no matter how much you try to resist it, you will eventually give in and have it.
But, as I show you in this episode, the only way to stop giving into the urge for the donuts is to decrease your desire to have them.
What it takes is learning how to allow the desire, the urges without resisting them.
Yes, it will feel uncomfortable, but you can get to choose. Do you sit with the discomfort of allowing the urge, or can you sit with the discomfort of eating the donuts and then feeling frustrated you gave in?
Just imagine sitting, walking into the breakroom, seeing the donuts and having no desire to it them.
That is absolutely possible!
🔥Listen to this week's episode, where you'll learn:
✔️ How using willpower does not work.
✔️ Why we need to allow the urge instead of resisting it.
✔️ How when we allow the urge for the donuts, the desire for them goes away.

Self-love means that you accept yourself fully and treat yourself with kindness, compassion and respect.
It's about not only about your actions but your thoughts and feelings about yourself.
Think about it as... what you would do for yourself, how you talk to yourself, and how you feel about yourself in a way that reflects concern and love.
It means you genuinely care for yourself like you would your best friend, your partner or your child.
You have an overall positive view of yourself and that you matter.
So why don't we give ourselves the self-love we deserve?...
So many of us believe that we can't love ourselves until we lose weight. That our worthiness is dependent on the number on the scale or how we look.
🔥 Come listen to this week's podcast, where I will talk about self-love, what it is, why we resist it so much, why it's the foundation for everything and how to love ourselves no matter what.

Last week I talked about pausing (the link is below) and how important it is because we often don't even question why we are eating.
We eat on autopilot, but it is really important when it comes to losing weight that we pause to check in to see if it is true genuine hunger that is creating our desire or craving to eat or is it one of the seven other hungers.
When we have a desire to eat or a craving, often it comes from a need to fuel our body- body hunger.
Eating for anything other than body hunger is one of the reasons why we struggle to lose weight. When we are eating in response to our emotions, to things on tv, something we saw or smelled, we give our body food when it is not needed.
🔥 listen in as I explain the 8 hungers so that next time you feel hungry or have a craving for something, you can pause, check in with yourself and be able to distinguish what kind of hunger you are sensing.
It's all about learning the 8 hungers so that you are only eating for body hunger which is how you lose weight and keep it off.
In this week's episode, you'll learn:
✔️ It's important to pause- listen to episode #47
✔️ The 8 types of hunger and what they are
✔️ Eating for anything other than body hunger is one of the reasons why we struggle to lose weight.

We all dream of loving our bodies one day, but in this moment, that doesn't ever feel like it will happen. So we continue to beat ourselves up, thinking that will get us to make changes.
That never works; trust me on that one because if it did, you would be loving your body and not listening to me right now!
I wanted to talk about this loving our body or how we look in this episode because last week, I had surgery on my face to remove basal cell carcinoma, which left a big incision.
So I have a human brain, and all I thought about when the dressing came off for the first time was, "I look terrible." "All everyone is going to see is this big ugly Incision!" or "I'll look so ugly now."
When I was 100lbs heavier, my thoughts were not very nice towards myself either. Thoughts like, "OMG, I look so fat," "I hate how I look," and "What are people thinking about me?!" which left me hiding in the house a lot.
But when I learned that I didn't have to love myself or my body to feel better, all I had to do was get to a place of neutrality; that was when everything changed for the better. So I eventually have come to love most parts of my body. And the parts I don't love, I accept them without shame or judgement!
🔥 Listen to this week's episode, where I'll teach you all about body love, body positivity and body neutrality so you can feel better right now!
In this week's episode, you'll learn:
✔️ Why we tend to hate on our bodies and how we can change that.
✔️ What is body positivity, and how body neutrality might be more believable to you.
✔️ How to shift from hating our body to being neutral in how we think about our body so we can feel better.

You've done all the diets, thinking of trying something again, and your brain goes to, "What if it doesn't work and I fail again?
We all have those what-ifs, but when we stay focused on those what-ifs, there is no way we will be motivated or feel hopeful that we can make the change we want in our lives.
How long do you keep trying before quitting, or do you even start trying?
🔥In this week's episode, I'll teach you that those what-if questions will always be there, but then how can you shift to a helpful "what if" question.
In this week's episode, you'll learn:
✔️ Why do we focus on the "what if" questions that create fear, that keep us from changing or figuring out what will work in getting to our goal weight.
✔️ What to do when your find the "what if's" coming up
✔️ How to shift those what-ifs to what-ifs that will have you reach your goal.

Have you been telling yourself that you have a ‘food addiction?’
In today’s episode, I talk about how telling yourself a story about being addicted to food or even sugar or carbs is sabotaging your weight loss more than you think.
To some, it might be an ‘addiction’ but for too many, it’s all about understanding that when you are feeling so out of control around food it’s because you don’t know how to cope with the situations going on around you that are creating your ‘negative’ feelings.
And what happens to you when you have a negative feeling?…
For most, that sends us turning to food to cope, to distract so that we can feel better.
So is it really an addiction or is it just you needing to learn how to feel your feelings and start focusing on telling yourself another story about what is going on!
Listen in to this week’s episode where I share my story on how I went from believing that I was addicted to food and then wine and how I changed all that.
When I realized I wasn’t an ‘addict’, that was when I was finally able to take my power back! I was no longer controlled by food and alcohol, which felt so freeing and I want that for you, too!

Have you ever eaten the entire bag of chips and said to yourself “I’m out of control with my eating,” or “I can’t stop myself, what’s wrong with me?”
If you do well all day until something happens at work or in your life that has you feeling overwhelmed, stressed, frustrated or even angry and you end up overeating and feeling so out of control, not knowing what to do, feeling panicked, then this episode is for you!
All the diets you have been on have shown you what to eat, what not to eat, how to count calories, weigh and measure your food or how to count macros, but they have never shown you what to do once you have overeaten on the chips, ice cream, donuts, cookies or even chocolate.
It’s important to look at what you do after you overeat, because that will make the difference if you give up or not.
Why?
Because, if you find yourself in a panic state after you overeat, that leads to you giving up, so I’m here to show you how to get yourself out of the panic state.
In this week’s episode, I’ll share with you one simple phrase to say to yourself after you have an overeat so that you can gain back control and continue losing weight.

When life isn't going the way you planned, do you find yourself thinking, "now's not the time to lose weight?"
Do you hear yourself saying you'll focus on losing weight when life settles down, when you don't feel so busy, stressed, overwhelmed, etc.?
If that's happening to you, you need to know that you have a human brain, and your brain is doing its job by bringing up these thoughts to stay safe.
What!
Stay safe when all you want to do is lose weight?
Yup!
It's not that it is not the right/perfect time because there is no right or perfect time! There is you start with where you are right now and take small steps in moving towards your goal.
But... your brain is bringing up the excuse it's not the right/perfect time because there are more thoughts and feelings going on underneath the surface that you are not aware of, AND that is where you need to do the work.
The work needs to be that you have to go deeper into why your brain thinks it needs to keep you safe.
In this week's episode, I will go into
✔️ why the human brain is designed to keep us safe
✔️ what is the real reason your brain thinks it needs to keep you safe
✔️ what to do to move forward in losing weight for the last time!

Do you hear yourself saying, "I can't get motivated to get back on track!" So you continue to overeat, beating yourself up that there must be something wrong with you that you just can't get yourself motivated to do anything!
I know you can see that the lack of motivation you have is holding you back. It has you thinking, "If only I felt motivated, then I would do what I need to do."
Finding the motivation to do what works to lose weight can be difficult; that is why in this week's podcast, I'm here to let you know that you can get back on track without feeling motivated!
Come listen in on why you relying on motivation will only set you up for quitting.
That's because motivation comes and goes.
If you are only taking action when you feel motivated, that will have you repeatedly starting and stopping, which will leave you frustrated. When you constantly feel frustrated, you will never take consistent action.
In other words, you will never feel motivated all of the time, so stop relying on that to happen!
Losing weight is not about needing to wait until you have the motivation to take action; instead, it's about being consistent in taking small steps each day despite not feeling like it.
In this week's episode, I'll show you how to take action when you don't feel motivated!

Do you find yourself doing great all day only to end up on the couch binge-watching tv eating out of the bucket of ice cream, wondering what's wrong with you?
Or
You made it through the week only to find yourself eating all weekend long all the foods you restricted yourself from throughout the week?
If this sounds familiar, know you are not alone and that there is nothing wrong with you. But, unfortunately, you have not been shown another way to lose weight and to stop feeling so controlled by food.
You need to know that to lose weight permanently, you have to become aware of all the habits that are wired into your brain- those that are running on autopilot that is sabotaging your weight loss.
Before you can change what is not working, you must become aware of them!
You have (unintentionally) programmed your brain to turn to food to give you relief from your long busy, stressful day or programmed your brain to sit on the couch snacking after you've finished supper.
You have done these things so many times that it has become a habit. It is on automatic pilot in your brain; you hardly even think about doing it, it just feels like it is happening, and you have no control.
So it's simple, if you want to change what is not working to lose weight, you have to rewire your habits.
In today's episode, I will teach you about how you've wired your brains to do things that don't help with weight loss and how to shift it all! How to start to break apart your old wiring so that you can create habits that will have you losing weight for the last time.

Have you ever found yourself driving by the bakery, smelling the freshly baked bread
Or
Walking into the breakroom, seeing the donuts and having a powerful urge to want to eat one?
So, you have thaturge to eat and what happens next is your brain starts listing all the reasons you should eat it.
Sometimes, all the white-knuckling, willpowering, resisting that urge to eat never works, and you give in.
If this sounds familiar, then this episode is for you.
Today, I'm going to talk to you about how to deal with your urges to eat so they lose power over you.
In this week's episode, you'll learn about:
Why do you have food urges
What you can do so you don't react to those urges when they come up
The steps you need to take to make them go away for good

Consistency is one of the most powerful tools you can implement to lose weight.
If you have done a couple of diets, you know what to eat to lose weight, but the problem is that you don't stay consistent in doing it.
Why?
Because you have been focusing on trying to do things perfectly, eating perfectly, and, of course, you will never be perfect all the time.
Trying to do things perfectly is all about you working hard to get to your goal weight. Your whole focus is on getting to that goal weight because that's the most important thing to you.
But what happens is when things don't go perfectly for you end up quitting.
You quit and then start over again, this cycle continues, and you never lose the weight. This cycle is exhausting!
But what if, instead of perfection, you focus on consistency.
In this week's episode, you'll learn about:
-Why do you chase perfection
-How to let go of trying to do things perfectly
-Why consistency is important
-The steps to take to stay consistent

What do you believe in, and why does it matter.
It's so important that we believe in ourselves because that is how we achieve our goals and increase how we feel about ourselves!
What most of us do is believe in thoughts that do not help get us to our goals.
So, what are you believing?
If we have negative self-talk, that is just us not believing in ourselves, which I'll be talking about how to shift in this episode.
When we lack belief in ourselves, we are less likely to do what will get us to our goal.
Do you believe that you can't do it, you're a failure, you'll never figure it out? Those all bring up doubt and fear, and when you believe from this place, you will never move forward in doing what you need to do to lose weight.
When we allow ourselves to believe in the doubt and fear, to let it take hold, that is when we will subconsciously sabotage ourselves.
Why? Because what our brain focuses on is the outcome we will achieve. So if you want to stop the weight loss struggle, you have to consciously decide what you want to believe in that will get you to your goal.
Listen in to this week's episode, and I'll show you what you need to do to believe in yourself!

Yes, life gets crazy sometimes.
We have stressful days at work, there will be times that there is chaos in our life, we go on a vacation, or we get sick, and when any of this happens, we think that we can't keep doing what we know works to lose weight.
What you need to know is that is diet mentality.
It's all or nothing thinking, and that type of thinking never works! It has us doing everything or has us doing nothing.
In this week's episode, I'll show you that no matter what happens in your life, you don't have to get off track and have to start all over again the next day, week or month.
You end the starting over by having a minimum baseline for yourself. A minimum baseline line is you committing to yourself to do these basic things no matter what happens.
In this episode, I will cover what you need to include as part of your minimum baseline plan, and I promise they are three simple ways to keep on going with losing weight when life doesn't go the way you planned.
These simple ways are fundamental but make all the difference in the world, even though your brain will yell out at you that they are not enough, not good enough, I all my clients when they implement them never get off track in losing weight... or at the very least not gaining weight.
So listen in to find out what you should implement when you know that your day isn't going the way you planned.

You've started a new diet, and you're super excited and motivated to follow it, the number on the scale is moving down consistently, and you feel so motivated to keep on going with following that diet, but...
One day that number on the scale stops going on. It feels like it is stuck there, or worse yet, it goes up and then what happens is...
You lose motivation.
We think that number on the scale has up feeling frustrated, sad and unmotivated but what you don't realize is motivation is a feeling, it is created from what you are thinking, thoughts like:
"It's not working."
"I can't do this."
"I always fail."
In this episode, I will teach you what to do when that number on the scale goes up, and your motivation dwindles and then share what you need to do to keep on going with eating healthy so you can lose weight for the last time.
Hint... it's not you needing to feel motivated!

Do you have days when you are short-staffed, your workload is so heavy, or your husband said something to you, and that is all you can think about?
Do you feel it's so stuck in your head that it eats at you?
When we find our mind consumed with what is going on, it takes so much mental energy. And when that happens, our brains go looking for relief, so no wonder you find yourself eating all the food that isn't on your diet at the end of the day.
In this week's episode, I will show you that listening to the diet industry that has you focusing only on food and exercise is the reason why you continue to struggle with losing weight.
Why... because the diets don't take into account what is going on in your life and how it affects you.
Our life and dieting are not separate. When we learn how to deal with situations that consume our minds, we don't need to look for food to give us relief.
Listen in as I share with you the steps you need to take so that whatever happens in your life does not derail you from losing weight for the last time.

Did you set your New Years Resolution to lose weight,,,, yet again?
You might have started on that new diet that everyone was talking about. Or maybe you're giving the shakes or pills a try.
Or you've gone back to Weight Watchers for the second, third or even fourth time.
Well, if this is you, then listen in to this week's podcast!
In this podcast, I first encourage you to listen to last week's podcast on managing your MEDS- those are the basics I teach that will get you started losing weight for good.
Once you know the basics, adding in this one small strategy will have you on the right road to permanent weight loss.
This one strategy will have you knowing exactly what to do when the donuts are in the breakroom, or you are out with friends, and they order the nachos, or you've had a long busy day, and all you want is to sit on the couch binge-watching Netflix and eat the whole bag of chips.
When we are trying to accomplish something we have never done before by doing what we have always been doing, we get the same results---- that's how we end up setting the same New Years Resolution over and over again.
It's time to change all of that this year!
I know this strategy works because it helped me lose 100 lbs and keep it off for over 12 years and has helped my clients lose weight for good- so you don't want to miss hearing all about it!
Don't forget you are worth it!
As Nurses, we give out meds all the time, but this MED is something different, one that you may not have even known about and one that we should be managing every day for ourselves.
These MEDS are essential for you to manage daily because they give you a solid foundation to master permanent weight loss.
Listen in to this week's episode, where I go into detail on what these MEDS are and why they are so crucial for you to implement in your life every day, especially if you want to lose weight for the last time!
P.S. These MEDS are not the traditional meds you are used to!

When I was growing up from an early age of 8 yrs old all the way until I was 42, I dreaded exercising and specifically running.
I avoided participating in gym class and used every excuse possible to get out of it because my brain was so focused on what other people would think about how I looked, and I had convinced myself I couldn't do it.
So fast forward to the age of 42 when I decided to give running a try. My brain was focused on what had happened in the past. Looking back to how I had never been able to do it. How hard it was and how it was better to quit.
But because I decided to focus on looking ahead by committing to following a plan, I ran my first 10K race.
What you need to know is that our brains do not like uncertainty, and looking ahead brings up uncertainty, so in today's episode, I will show you how to stop your brain from pulling you back to what didn't work for you so that you can move forward to where you want to go.
I'll show you the steps you can take to shift out of looking behind so that you can commit to doing what you say you will do and then follow through on doing that.
When you do that, you will have the trust and confidence to challenge yourself to make more changes in what you are doing and eating that will get you to your weight goal.
Listen in on how you can let go of looking behind so you can truly focus on looking ahead because that is where all the results come from!

You may say that's not me, but if you ask yourself, "but will this really work for me" that is you doubting yourself, that is you not believing that you can do it.
Are you afraid that it will not work for you? That you can't do it?
When you doubt yourself, you hold yourself back from going all in, and when you don't go all in the first time, things get hard, you quit telling yourself, see, I knew I couldn't do it! I knew it wouldn't work.
Did you know that not believing in yourself is the way you keep yourself safe?
Our brains want to keep us safe, but you have to remind yourself that
what got you here will not get you where you want to go.
So what do you do?
Listen to this week's episode where I explain more on why we hold onto not believing in ourselves and what we can do to shift out of it so that we reach our goals.
In today's episode, you'll learn:
-What not believing in yourself looks like
-Why does it matter that we need to believe in ourselves to get to our goal
-Why is it that we don't believe in ourselves when we want something so badly
-How to change it all so that you start believing!
Song mentioned in the show- Never Give Up by Fearless Soul
Why does it matter how we talk to ourselves?
How does it affect us when we talk negatively to ourselves?
In today's Episode, I will talk about our negative self-talk the inner dialogue going on inside our brains. We all have an inner critic that can be helpful, but often that voice can be more harmful, especially when it is excessively negative. This is what we call negative self-talk. It is the type of talk that can really bring us down.
I'll explain why we get stuck in talking so negatively to ourselves and how it affects us if we don't silence it.
For me, I was the queen of negative self-talk for so many years until I found these six steps, which I show with you in today's Episode.
Come take a listen!
In today's Episode, you'll learn:
-What is negative self-talk
-Why do we talk to ourselves so negatively
-Consequences of negative self-talk
-The six steps to silence your negative self-talk
The beginning of the holiday frenzy has begun, the shopping and of course the eating. This is where you start getting all the emails or googling "How to prevent gaining weight over the holidays."
Most of the advice out there is all around restricting and depriving yourself of your favorite foods. Or how to trick yourself into not eating it.
Tips like... Eat before going so you won't be hungry at the holiday meal. That doesn't work.
Don't miss this episode as I share all the tips that do not work- and most, you probably have tried yourself and then tips that do work that will help you avoid gaining weight during the holidays.
It is possible to enjoy the holidays and not gain weight.
Listening to this week's podcast, you will no longer need to continue searching and reading about "How to prevent holiday weight gain" but instead focus your time and energy on enjoying the holidays. Just imagine how much better they would be if you never had to dread those holiday meals again.
It's time for you to really celebrate the holidays, food and all.
Do you ever have times where you want to do something so badly, but when it comes to doing it, all the justifications- reasons, excuses why you can't take action yell out at you, so you don't do anything to change what you are struggling with.
If this is happening to you, know that there is nothing wrong with you. You are normal. Your brain is doing its job.
Today's podcast is for you if you have ever had thoughts like:
"I have tried everything; this won't work."
"Maybe it's not the right time- I'm too busy, too stressed."
"This will be too hard."
"I have to think about it."
In this week's podcast, I will show you why you have this inner conflict going on where you see you need to take action, yet you just can't seem to do it.
Then I will show you what you can do to commit and take action that is needed that will get you to your goals.
Halloween is over. How are you doing with the leftover candy or all the candy your children collected?
Is it calling your name?
Are you telling yourself you "can't" have it because then you will blow your diet?
In this week's episode, I'm discussing how when we tell ourselves we "can't" have the candy and try to use willpower not to eat it, that never works.
There will never be enough willpower to stop that little voice inside our heads- that rebellious child inside of us from getting its way.
As adults, we don't want anyone else to control us, telling us what to do, and the funny thing is, that includes telling ourselves what to do.
So listen in to what can you do to stop the crazy cycle of:
"I can't have it"- overeat the candy- beat self up
rinse and repeat.
I'll show you how you CAN have the Halloween candy and lose weight!
Do you have any of these thoughts?
-"Now is not a good time to start. There's too much going on. I'll wait for the perfect time."
-"My life is either going perfectly or it's a disaster."
-"I ate that donut; now my diet is ruined."
-"I always mess up."
All-or-nothing thinking, or you can also call it black-or-white thinking, is something I've had to practice frequently in shifting out of in the last 12 years with losing weight as well as in my job and life.
In today's podcast, I'm talking about how all-or-nothing thinking is very common with so many of us and how it keeps us stuck, frustrated, and stressed.
I'll go over are the signs of all-or-nothing thinkers and what steps you can take to minimize it in today's episode.
Have you ever gone to bed, and the thoughts of the day are consuming your head so much that you are unable to sleep.
Or
With everything that happened throughout the day, you feel so upset that you can think of anything else but that, so instead of sticking with eating the healthy food you planned, you find yourself in the fast-food drive-through because you just don't have the mental energy.
On the way home from work and don't you have the mental energy to eat the 'healthy' food you planned and instead grab fast food on the way home?
Today's podcast talks about how ruminating over the problem never solves the problem even though we think we are working on finding a solution.
How, being caught the ruminating loop- repeating in our mind over and over the problem- only interferes with our daily life and mental well-being.
Studies have found that "people who didn't ruminate or blame themselves for their difficulties had much lower levels of depression and anxiety, even if they'd experienced many negative events in their lives."
In this week's episode, I will show you how you can stop spending all your precious mental energy reliving the problem so that you can find the solution to helping you move on with your life.
I'll share with you the steps I give my clients that you can implement right away so you can spend more and more time focusing on doing the things that will have you moving forward to living your best life.
If you find yourself struggling with binge eating, you are not alone. So many of my clients come to me for help because they are done feeling miserable, and all they want is to eat normally.
In today's podcast, I will share why we binge and what we can do to decrease and eventually stop binge eating so that you can eat like a "normal" person. I know this is possible because, after 30 years of Binge eating, I've stopped. This is possible for you!!
You need to know that you are not broken, and there is nothing wrong with you.
You have just created the habit, and it can be changed.
In this podcast, I will share with you how I was headed for a binge because of my habit of believing that food will bring me comfort.
This lie always led me to eat more and more until I was so uncomfortable.
I will share how the simple sentence "What do I really need?" will change everything for you.
Come take a listen here to this week's podcast.
Today I'm talking about what decision fatigue is and how it leads Nurses to burn out. When we combat decision fatigue or limit the decisions we make, the less stressed we will feel.
We face having to make hundreds of decisions every day- from what to eat, when to eat, how much to eat, what to wear to more complicated decisions like the ones we have to make at work to best do our job.
No matter how strong you are, with all the decisions you make throughout the day you eventually will feel depleted, and when that happens, your ability to make the best choices does not occur. These are the times you tell yourself you need more willpower... but it is not more willpower you need!
In today's podcast, I'm teaching you how you can decrease the decisions you make every day so that you are not running on empty by the end of the day because that is why you end up on the couch, binge-watching Netflix, eating out of the bag of chips.
Making decisions ahead of time will decrease the number of decisions you will be making in your day, and one of the tools I use with my clients is 24 hr planning.
Come listen in on what is 24 hr planning and how it will help you stop feeling so drained by the end of the day so that you can stay on track with achieving your weight loss goals.
Are you working on losing weight and find it hard, guess what? You have been conditioned to believe that it shouldn't be hard by the diet industry.
All those diets out there promising you quick and easy fixes, don't believe them!
Losing weight is hard, and that's ok.
It is hard because you will have to change habits that are not working for you.
In this week's episode, I will show you how to be ok with it being hard, but that does not mean it's hard to lose weight.
When you learn how your brain works, you can then know how to change your old habits that have been keeping you stuck in losing weight.
After losing 100 lbs and coaching Nurses for two years now, my passion is helping Nurses like you end the struggle by making weight loss easier for you.
Losing weight all starts with learning how to change habits in a way that can be easier than you ever thought possible.
In today's episode, I'm going to give you three steps to make losing weight easy and doable so that you can quit making things harder on yourself then it needs to be.
In the last couple of episodes, I spoke about how important it is to be aware of what you are thinking and feeling; today, I'm talking about building awareness around: Why you're eating, How hungry you really are, and How to stop at satisfied, so you stop the overeating.
I'll introduce you to one of the basic weight loss tools I use with my clients that have them not only losing weight but keeping it off without restriction or deprivation or counting calories.
The hunger scale will help you to get back in touch with what your body is telling you when it comes to your physical hunger and satisfaction signals. When you eat only what your body needs for fuel and stop at enough, you lose weight for good.
Becoming aware of eating only when your body needs fuel and stopping at enough is what the diets don't teach you. But, when you eat using the hunger scale, you will lose weight for good. And the good thing is you can take this anywhere with you... even to work!
So, no more guilt, shame or regret, let get started!
In today's episode, I'm talking about building awareness around:
What is grief?
Grief is a response to a loss, and it can affect all parts of a person's life.
As a Nurse, you experience many losses at work and even in your personal life but are you actually allowing yourself to grieve?
As Nurses, we have deep care and compassion for our patients, and when we watch them go, we think to do our job, we have to stay strong and in control--- which in most cases, we have to get our job done.
We have to keep our emotions 'under control' while we are at work, but what happens when we walk in the door after a shift where we experienced a loss?
For me, it led me right to the kitchen to grab some comfort food: straight to the ice cream, chips, chocolate or cookies. The comfort food is how I helped myself felt better.
Withholding our emotions only leads us to turn to something outside of us to feel better and it takes it toll on us as a Nurse.
But when we learn how to allow our feelings, we no longer need to turn to
food but more importantly, it will make you a better Nurse.
In this episode, I'm sharing how attending my Uncles' funeral this past week made me realize that I have held myself back from fully experiencing grief and how I could find ease and peace inside myself.
In today's episode, you'll learn:
-Why Nurses don't grieve.
-How not allowing our feelings send us straight to the kitchen eating.
-How not grieving affects our work.
-How to grieve to achieve ease and peace to stop overeating, and be the best Nurse we can be.
For 30 years I ate when I was bored. I ate when I was mentally drained from my job. I ate when I was frustrated with my kids. I ate when I felt hopeless. I ate when I was depressed. I ate when I was anxious. I ate when I was tired or not feeling well (those two were big ones for me!). My thinking was, "I can't do anything about what's going on but grabbing something to eat will help me feel better."... until I was done overeating, and then I felt even worse!
I didn't hear the term Emotional Eating until I was in my 30's and thought, that's not me; I love food. I love to eat, that's the problem!
I didn't understand what emotional eating really was. All I knew was that things were going on in my life, and I was hungry... I need to eat!
In today's podcast, I go over what is Emotional Eating. The difference between physical hunger and emotional hunger and the steps I took to end my Emotional Eating.
So if you are struggling to lose weight and have done a bunch of diets, you know what to eat. It is not another diet you need that focuses on the food. What's happening is you need to learn how to stop the emotional eating!
That's what worked for me! I lost 100 lbs over 12 years ago when I ended my emotional eating, and I have kept it off since then!
In Today's Episode, you'll learn:
-What is Emotional Eating
-What a feeling is and how to embrace them without turning to food to feel better
-Becoming aware is it comfort in the moment or long-term comfort that you will choose because it is your choice!
Welcome to episode #8 of the podcast! Today I will first review the TFA Model that I introduced in Episodes six and seven. One of the main goals of my podcast is to help you become an expert at applying this model so you can end the stress and busyness that has been sabotaging your weight loss.
The Thought-Feeling-Action (TFA) Model is an incredible tool to show you how what you are thinking creates all the results you have in your life and then how you can shift your thinking to achieve your weight loss goals!
In this episode, I will be talking about feelings or emotions. What they are and how they affect your actions, inactions or reactions that have you struggling with losing weight.
I will show you how it is not your Circumstance that needs changing, as you have no control over this, but your thoughts about your Circumstance. It's time to take your power back so that you can enjoy your job, life and lose weight for good!
In today's episode, you'll learn:
-An overview of the TFA Model
-What feelings really are.
-Why people turn to food when they have negative emotions.
-How you don't have to have the situation changed to get the results you want.
Welcome to episode seven of the podcast! I hope you have enjoyed the first six episodes and are excited to join me in ending the BS Cycle- the busy and stress sabotaging your weight loss.
Today, I will talk to you about why it is important to understand the difference between circumstances and thoughts because many of us think that our thoughts ARE the circumstance.
I'll show you that feeling stressed, busy, frustrated or overwhelmed comes from what you are thinking, not from the circumstance?
I go more in-depth into the TFA Model I introduced to you in episode six so that you can become an expert at using the model so that you can enjoy your job, life and lose weight for good!
In today's episode, you'll learn:
-The vital difference between a circumstance and a thought.
-Why so many of us think it is our circumstances that are the problem.
-How nothing and nobody in your life has to change to get the results you want.
-How all our thoughts drive our actions, not our circumstances.
-How to get clear on it is a thought, or is it a circumstance so you can create a different outcome.
If you are still looking for that perfect diet that tells you the food you should or should not eat, how much to eat, when and how often? Or that perfect exercise program telling you what you should do and how often? Then this podcast is for you!
I'm here to teach you that finding the 'right' diet and exercise program is not the solution.
Yes, knowing what to eat and adding in movement is important, but if that is all it took, you wouldn't still be struggling.
In this episode, I will show you the real solution... it's a tool that I used to lose 100 lbs over 12 years ago.
This tool will show you that it is not what is said to you or done to you or what you hear or see or that the circumstance needs to change so that you can lose weight.
Why you continue to struggle with overeating, giving in to your urges, or quit eating healthy is not caused by your circumstances.
Why you still struggle is because of what you are thinking.
What is holding you back from reaching your goals... are your thoughts.
It's time to stop giving up, and this tool will show you how to do just that!
In this episode, I'll show you how your thoughts create your results and how to use your thoughts to enjoy your job, life and achieve permanent weight loss.
In today's episode, you'll learn:
-How your biggest obstacle to achieving your dreams is what you are thinking.
-The ONE tool that will change your life for the better.
-The TFA model, and I'll walk you through how to use it to reach your goals.
When it comes to weight loss, we all have a reason why we want to lose weight. Is it that you want to get into those skinny jeans, look good for pictures or just be healthy and happy.
If those are yours and you are still struggling with food and your weight, I want you to know that you might not have a strong, compelling reason why.
To help you stay motivated and committed to shedding the weight, you have to have at least one strong why. Your strong why has to bring up a feeling and emotion; you have to feel it in your body.
If when those donuts in the report room are more important than getting into those skinny jeans, then it's time to dig deep into finding a more compelling why. You choose the donuts over getting into those skinny jeans because they are really not that compelling, yeah it would be nice to you, but that's where it stops.
If this is happening to you, then it's time to dig deep into finding a more compelling why.
Listen in as I talk about how achieving permanent weight loss starts with you determining you're compelling why and then I share with you what you need to do to implement your why so that you do get you to your goal.
In today's episode, you'll learn:
-Understanding what a compelling why is.
-How to determine why you want to lose weight.
-How to use that why to achieve permanent weight loss.
When it comes to losing weight for good, a food journal is so important. But, I'm not talking about a food journal that tells you exactly what, how much and when to eat. That never works for the long term- that's a diet.
I am talking about food journaling to learn how to eat in a way you can lose weight but, more importantly, keep it off for good!
The idea of having a food journal can bring up a lot of discomfort for many people, and I get that! I resisted for a very long time in the past with doing a food journal. When I finally let go of that resistance and learned how to food journal in a whole unique way, I lost 100 lbs, which was 12 years ago.
In today's podcast, I will explain to you why a food journal is so important and how you can do it in an easy, simple, straightforward way that you will enjoy doing.
Listen in as I share exactly how to food journal in a way that doesn't have you feeling restricted, deprived or feeling bad about yourself.
With this method of food journaling, you gain awareness into what and why you are eating and then how to change it all so that no matter what happens in your day, you won't quit and need to start all over on Monday.
In today's episode, you'll learn:
-Why do we resist food journaling.
-Why food journaling is important.
-What to put down to eat in your food journal (it's not what you think).
-How to journal in an easy and simple, straightforward way.
-The importance of being curious vs harsh with yourself.
-Why we need to be aware of our thoughts and feelings.
This week on Weight Loss For Nurses, we are going to end weight-loss Confusion.
We're all so confused because there's so much information out there. All you have to do is jump on the internet and see diet after diet and all the other alternative options out there. It is just overwhelming.
I indulged in Confusion until I found the solution to end it all over 12 years ago. That was when I lost 100lbs. I had a million excused why I couldn't lose the weight... not the right diet, no time, too stressed. "I don't know what to do" was my old stand-by response.
On the podcast, I will explain how we love to indulge in Confusion and what you can do to end it so you can lose weight for the last time!
In Today's Episode, You'll Learn:
-How Confusion sabotages our weight loss
-Confusion being an indulgent emotion
-The way to identify when you are in Confusion
-Learn how to process the thoughts in order to achieve weight loss goals
-How I help my clients enjoy their job, life and lose weight for the last good!
I LOVE VACATIONS!
Don't you?
Even though you love your vacations, so many Nurses, before they even leave for the vacation, feel so worried and fearful that they will undo all their work in losing weight.
They don't believe it's possible that they can enjoy their vacation without "blowing' their diet."
Well, I'm here to tell you that you can enjoy your vacation! You do NOT need to be all consumed with food on your vacation and gain weight!
Yes, you heard me correctly!
In the past, Vacations to me used to be where I would be so focused on the food that it took away from me having a wonderful experience.
I started with the best intentions, but that never lasted very long. I would end up overeating so much to the point where I felt so physically uncomfortable, and that would lead me to the "I'm on vacation" mentality. Then I would tell myself, "who cares, I will start again when I get home!"
That was the past, now I am excited about my vacations and thoroughly enjoy them WITHOUT all the Food and Weight Drama happening.
NO MORE STARTING OVER AFTER THE VACATION ENDS!
You can have this too!
I know this is what so many Nurses want because this is what I so desperately wished for!
In this episode, I teach you a BRAND NEW APPROACH that works so you can enjoy your vacation and not gain weight.
You deserve to go on your vacations having the CONFIDENCE of knowing that food and weight no longer control your experience.
Listen to learn how you can shift from food and weight worries to having trust and confidence in yourself with what and how you are eating so that you can finally enjoy your time away!
