As we look at Paul’s life in the book of Acts, we see ups and downs—heartache, shame, and restoration. Perhaps you can see yourself in this story because Jesus has called you out of our broken world so that you can go back into it to bring about positive change. One particular area to focus on is your oikos—the relational world that God has placed in your life.
As Christ-followers, we see in Acts that any opposition we face—while not pleasant—makes sense. Jesus taught it, and the Bible records it. Acts is much like the Bible’s playbook for what to do with our faith in Jesus. That is to believe it, hold tight to it, and spread and share it with others.
As we see in Acts, for those who seek to live a Christian life, credibility and compassion matter. We’re called to live changed lives, marked by moral consciousness, selfless compassion, and a passion to spread the love of Jesus.
Last week, we missed a moment that was human and needed the gospel. So, we’ll address and explore that in this sermon. We’ll also see that the book of Acts is both comfortable with miracles and is obsessed with sharing the gospel — a powerful reminder and encouragement for us.
If you’re willing to follow, God will guide you in the expansion of the Gospel, which at times may lead to a redirect in your life. This will build resilience of your faith even in the face of diversity. And, as you see in Acts 16, you never know the influence and impact you may have on another person.

As we begin our Acts series, you’ll see that the Book of Acts is preoccupied with Gospel advancement. Watch for God to move in the miraculous, the Church to move in conflict, and individuals to move to their oikos.
On August 31, 2025, we celebrated a historic milestone in the life of Hill Country Bible Church.Together we launched two new churches: • Lakeview Bible Church (22:48) • One Mission Bible Church (34:22)From this day forward, Hill Country continues as a single-site church, carrying the same mission: to saturate greater Austin with the love of Jesus.
Your faith should positively impact the people you choose to invest in. If this is not the case, you need to keep growing your faith because we’re meant to cultivate relationships that either shepherd or shape.
Have you considered that it’s possible to know the Bible, but not truly know Jesus? It’s important to both plant the Word in your mind, and to root yourself in habits that point to Jesus all life long, so that you can have a relationship with Him.
Renewing our minds is both a spiritual command and a biological possibility. Since we can’t always trust our mind and inner voice, it’s important to be consistent in planting Scripture in our mind, as the Word reflects the person of God, who we know to be eternal, holy, and trustworthy.
Every year, we have a giant celebration to thank God for all the amazing things He did during the Great Adventure! We engage in worship, hear stories of life-change, and praise God for how powerfully He moved. And, today, we’ll also cheer on those being baptized.
The design and work of God is set loose for His purpose in the world by those who follow Him. That’s why it’s important to know and use your spiritual gifts in a way that glorifies God beyond the church walls. If you don’t know your spiritual gifts, discover them, so that you can more positively impact other with the life-changing love of Jesus.
God has uniquely wired each of us to be a part of the body of Christ. He has a purpose He wants to accomplish, He has a plan to achieve that purpose, and He calls each of us — individually — to participate in those plans. How will you answer the call?
Ephesians 4 says the church is built up when each part is working properly. And we each have a special role to play because God has given each of us unique gifts, resources, and passions to help build up the church. Consider how and where you can use your gifts to be a part of the body.
Do you know your unique giftings from God? If not, there might be obstacles in your way, such as you’re not convinced that you’re gifted, not everyone sees the world the way your gifting does, and/or you like the idea, but don’t know how. At the end of this series, we’ll talk about an online tool to help you because it’s important to know and use our gifts in the world.
Do you know that God gives each of us spiritual gifts, which are to be honed and used for the good of others? If you don’t know your special and specific gifts, we encourage you to both identify and activate them, as God has plans and purposes for each of us.
We believe that the church at-large, not just Hill Country, is doing great work. So, we invite you to pause for a moment to ask how you’re involved and engaged. The Church sets the design and Person of God in every believer, sets the work of God through us to every believer, and sets the design and work of God loose in our world. Where are you in this?
Have you considered that giving increases your faith and trust in God? Think about it this way: Everything we have belongs to God, He really does love us, and that generosity leads to blessings from Him.

As we read in Scripture, God say He is our provider. And with that provision, He says to provide for your family, the poor, and the local church. us.

Scriptures, throughout the Bible, command us to be generous to the poor, saying that those who oppress the poor insult God, while those who are generous honor Him. And we are both able and equipped to be generous because God gives generously and freely to us. Consider how you can align your heart with God’s in the way you respond to the poor.
Do you genuinely believe God is good and generous in His provision for you, or do you quietly assume He’s either disappointed or controlling about your finances? Wherever you land on this, the Bible tells us that God is generous and a provider; therefore, we can be generous.

In 1 Corinthians 6:7, Paul says it’s better to be wronged than to cause division in the church. While this response might not be easy, it’s certainly Christlike. And this reaction can actually lead to healing and peace in relationships.

Jesus endured many trials to both establish His innocence and legitimize our forgiveness. This week, we were encouraged to accept Jesus’ forgiveness because left alone guilt can negatively impact our well-being and our life. And that’s not how God wants us to live.

This week, we take a look at the parable of the Prodigal Son. One of the takeaways from the parable is that sometimes our sinful lifestyle keeps us from God the father, but sometimes our own sense of moral goodness keeps us from God. Jesus says they are both wrong. It is only those who know they need the grace of God that can be saved.

Christian fasting — voluntarily abstaining from food for spiritual purposes — can have many positive expressions and outcomes. Among them are an expression of our worship and hunger for God, a strengthening of prayer, repentance and return to God, seeking God’s guidance, and a longing for Christ’s return.

It’s important to root yourself in Jesus, as this will develop character. Character comes for the person of Jesus, and it develops from knowing and following Him over time.

An epistle, such as Colossians, has doctrine, application, and personal touches. Jesus called his disciples “salt of the earth” and “light of the world.” Consider your relationship with Jesus, how does it make you “salty” and “luminous” to the people around you. Both as an individual and as a body of believers, as salt, we are the hope for a decaying world. And, as light, we are the hope for a dark world.

Jesus’ first coming brought us the peace we desperately need: peace with God. And Jesus’ second coming will bring the peace we desperately want: peace on earth. As you consider the peace that comes from Jesus, how can you keep Him the center of your focus this Christmas?
Many of us assume that joy is found in our happiness and success. However, the true source of joy is Jesus, who came down to give His life for us. This Christmas, turn your focus to Jesus and look to Him only to bring you joy.
Do you believe that Jesus reveals the love of God, and that God’s love is here for you today? We believe this is the truth of who Jesus is. He gives light and love, He isn’t indifferent to us, and He shows us who God truly is to us.
As we anticipate our Savior’s arrival, where are you finding hope this season? In this day and age, where evil abounds and all seems lost, we can find our hope in Jesus.
Thanksgiving requires an expression of gratitude. Think about a time in your life when you’ve bonded more deeply to God or another person by expressing gratitude to them. And consider who needs to hear gratitude from you this Thanksgiving.
When you think about standing face-to-face with God and having a life review, what thoughts and feelings come to mind? Whatever your immediate response, it’s likely fair to say that none of us want to stand before Him and learn that we had lived a life of conflict against His will for our life. With this is mind, it’s important to keep the coming kingdom of Jesus in focus and continue to radically purse God’s will for you.
Why do you think Jesus is waiting so long to return? And do you feel like you’re living in the moment or for that moment (Jesus’ return)? As we live here on earth, it’s important for us to continue to balance our future hope of Jesus’ coming and our current priorities.
Do you sense an antagonism with the culture toward Christianity and objective truth? As a Christ-follower today, it’s important to tell and live the truth. And while this might be met with some resistance or pushback, it’s necessary that you do so for God, your soul, and the world.
Our postmodern culture often revolves around possessions, power, and purpose, all of which can be interpreted in a way that can be hostile to our faith. One way to combat this hostility is to shift our thinking to be biblically centered, finish-line oriented, and evangelistically focused.
Do you think the early church, such as in Acts in the Bible, had it harder or easier in dealing with the culture than we do today? Think about today’s world, with all that’s going on, and consider how God would have you respond.

In the book of 2 Peter in the Bible, Peter says that the story of the Bible and the coming Kingdom of Jesus is the true story of God and humanity. Why do you think it’s important for Christ-followers to be shaped by this story? And how does this eternal perspective on life guide you through life’s choices, trails, and even joys?
Do you ever find yourself getting distracted and falling into the thinking that your salvation is not relevant to your day or week? If so, consider how you can shift your thinking into becoming more like Jesus — virtue development — which will, in turn, make you more fruitful in your life and more confident in your lavish welcome into His future kingdom.
In those seasons in your life when you’ve been spiritually effective and productive, what virtues were you displaying? In the Bible, we’re encouraged to make every effort to add a number of virtues to our faith including goodness, perseverance, and love. Consider how you can work toward increasing and improving those virtues that will help you live a more Christ-centered life.
What’s the difference between “virtue development,” “rule keeping,” and “you do you”? While these are each ways that we can live, the Bible tells us that we have a big responsibility for our own spiritual formation. And that formation and the process of becoming more like Jesus is an intentional, lifelong process of virtue development.
What does it mean to be a Christian in today’s world? Sometimes opposition from the culture around us can be overwhelming. In such an adverse world, we need to be reminded of what it means to be a Christian and ask ourselves: Are we being formed into the likeness of Jesus Christ or influenced by a hostile world?
