Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.
I Thessalonians 1: 2-3
2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, 3 remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
V. Your power vs. God’s power

Matthew 8:23-27
23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him.
24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.
25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

II. What gets in the way
III. Remember-Call on Me
IV. Put it into practice
V. Zechariah 10: 8-12
I will whistle for them and gather them, For I will redeem them; And they shall increase as they once increased.
9 “I will sow them among the peoples, And they shall remember Me in far countries; They shall live, together with their children, And they shall return.
10 I will also bring them back from the land of Egypt, And gather them from Assyria. I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon, Until no more room is found for them.
11 He shall pass through the sea with affliction, And strike the waves of the sea: All the depths of the River shall dry up. Then the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, And the scepter of Egypt shall depart.

Matthew 13: 10-16
The Purpose of Parables
10 And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”
11 He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.
12 For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.
13 Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
14 And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says:
‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand,
And seeing you will see and not perceive;
15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’
16 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear;

15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’

‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand,
And seeing you will see and not perceive;
15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’

Context:
The prophecy of Jeremiah in today's reading was spoken to the people of Israel while they were in exile.
The people had not remained faithful to the covenant made at Sinai.
The old covenant will be written in the people's hearts.
This section of Jeremiah is often referred to as The Promises of Restoration.
The tone of Jeremiah 31: 31-34 is eschatological- drawing on understandings of judgment, fulfilment and end times. Example- "The days are surely coming" (vs. 31)

I will be with you—Deuteronomy 31:6
6 Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
I will protect you—2 Thessalonians 3:3
3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.
I will always love you—1 John 4:9-10
9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
I will provide for you—Matthew 6:31-33
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
I will give you peace—John 14:27
27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
I will answer you—John 15:7
7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
I will be your strength—Isaiah 40:31
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
I will guide you—Psalm 32:8
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will guide you with My eye.
I will fight for you—Exodus 14:14
14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
I will keep my word—Numbers 23:19
“God is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He said, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Revelation 4:3
3 And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.

Apply the 3 P’s
Prioritize-Is this a salvation issue? Is this an essential of the faith? How is this important in the Kingdom of God?
Prospective-Look up scriptures on that topic. We always want the word of God to define our beliefs about any issue and not read into scriptures to make it say what we want.
Pray-Always!

Sermon Notes:
Essentials that make up a Biblical Worldview:
God is the creator of the world and rules this universe (Genesis 1:1)
God’s word as summed up in (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Jesus Christ is the only begotten son of God and he lived a sinless life, died for our sins, was buried, and rose again from the grave (1 John 4:9-10)
The inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the advocate, is key to understanding the bible (1 Peter 1:12).
John Wesley is noted for saying that “We need the same spirit to understand the scripture which enabled the holy men of old to write it.”
Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions (Ezekiel 18:30-31)
The devil seeks to defeat God’s plan for man (1 Peter 5:8)
Salvation is obtained solely by individual faith in Christ’s work on the cross and cannot be earned. (Ephesians 2: 8-9)
Learn the truth (Proverbs 15:14)
Discern Falsehoods (1 John 4:1)
Turn from the World to the Word of God (Romans 12:2)
Living a Biblical Worldview simply means that you and I need to see the world in light of God’s word not God’s word in light of the world.

Steward in Greek-Oikonomos
Examples of faithful stewards in the Bible
The idea of stewardship is prevalent in the Bible. Here are six faithful stewards in the Bible.
Noah was called to steward the animals and people that God wanted to save from the Great Flood.
Abraham was a steward of the promise to create a great nation out of a wandering people, a nation that later became Israel.
Moses faithfully stewarded the children of Israel, serving as their guide from Egyptian bondage, and throughout the forty years they wandered in the wilderness.
Ezra served as a steward to the people of Jerusalem after they had returned from their 70-year Babylonian captivity. He taught them the law of God and ensured that they kept His principles.
The disciples served as faithful stewards teaching the Word of God and spreading the gospel throughout the world they had access to. It’s because of their faithfulness that you and I know about the gospel.
The characteristics of a good steward
“What should rise is not the Christian’s standard of living, but his standard of giving.”

Examples of Fasting in the Bible:
Moses Fasted before Receiving the Ten Commandments
“So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.” Exodus 34:28
Daniel Fasted and Prayed to Understand a Vision
“I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks.” Daniel 10:3 ESV
David Fasted in Mourning the Loss of His Son and Best Friend
“And they mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son and for the people of the LORD and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.” 2 Samuel 1:12, ESV
John the Baptist Fasted by Sticking to a Strict Diet throughout his Life
“Now John wore a garment of camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.” Matthew 3:4 ESV
Jesus Fasted in the Desert when Tempted by Satan
“And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry. The devil said to him, ‘If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.’ And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.”’” Luke 4:1-4 ESV
The Early Church Fasted before Appointing Leaders and Elders, and When Enduring Trials
“Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’ Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off.” Acts 13:1-3 ESV

If you have time to worry you have time to pray.
Prayer invites God to unleash his power in our lives
Mark 9:29: "This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer."
Acts 9:40: "But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, 'Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up'".
James 5:14-15: "Is anyone among you sick? ... Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. ... Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. ... And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son."
John 16:33
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Prayer for Daily Living:
Heavenly Father,
I’m praying with faith and submitting to your purposes. Teach me to believe. All things are possible with you. I humbly bring you issues that are beyond change without your intervention. Help me to persevere until you reveal your answers. Give me wisdom to ask for the right things and trust your timing. In Jesus name, Amen!

Why read the Bible?
2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Hebrews 4:12
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Romans 10:3
“For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.”

Matthew 26:26-29
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
Revelation 3:20
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”
Matthew 28:16, 17
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.
When faced with a choice ask:
Does this choice support the life that I want to walk with Jesus Christ?
Examples:
New friends, old friends, romantic relationships, food, exercise, positive thoughts, negative thoughts, biblical application, conforming to the world or not, financial situations, etc.

Spiritual Responsibilities
In this offended and judgmental world, we must always be the role models.
You don’t do battle with a giant like worry, blame, or insecurity with more of the same; you arm yourself with the things that are spiritual, surrender, confession and repentance.
We need the help of the body praying for us and help from above, strength, clarity, and that is from the Holy Spirit. Let God remove the plank from your eye.

James 1:24
We evaluate trials in the light of what God says in his word that he is doing for us-this is key!
He has given his only Son for us (John 3:16).
He is with us, strengthens us, helps us, and upholds us (Isaiah 41:10).
He is good, and his steadfast love endures forever (1 Chronicles 16:34).
He forgives us, heals us, crowns us, satisfies us, and renews us (Psalm 103:2-5).
He rejoices over us, quiets us, and exults over us (Zephaniah 3:17).
3 Principles to Be Complete in Marriage Lacking Nothing:
1. Your character qualities matter
2. Biblical instruction going to the word of God as your spiritual foundation will guarantee that you will never be in lack in your marriage and relationships.
3. Where God directs you as couples, he will provide.

Genesis 1:27
Revelation 21:1-3
Proverbs 4:23
Matthew 5:8
How to Build a Strong Marriage
-The ultimate purpose of marriage is giving God the glory. God is most glorified when the covenant is honored.
-When God is not glorified in a relationship, the focus shifts. It becomes the shift to “My needs, my happiness and my glory.” The focus becomes self.
-Anytime we are glorifying self, that is not biblical.
-Challenge: The next time you are tempted to make a self-serving or self-glorifying decision without having a conversation with your spouse, ask yourself if you are glorifying God or self?
-When was the last time you asked your spouse to forgive you for something you were clearly in the wrong about?
We are losing apologies.
Purity
-Are you pure? Are your thoughts pure? Is your heart pure? Is your communication with your spouse pure?
-These answers affect all aspects of your marriage.
-If you ever need time to come and talk to the pastor, to just have a pastoral ear, you and your spouse know that I have an open door policy. It is a safe place to share where you pastor will listen and pray for you. It remains confidential.
-All couples can benefit from a recommitment.

Sermon Notes:
Vision
Do you have a vision for your life?
For how you live and abide in God’s will?
A vision is having a goal in mind for the church, home, life. It is having a Godly goal in mind and a direction in how to meet that goal.
Benefits to having a Godly Vision:
· Encourages unity
· Creates a good spiritual energy
· Provides purpose
· Enhances leadership
· Promotes excellence
· Sustain ministry
· Creates confidence
Habakkuk 2:2
· Write down the vision
· Make it plain so that others will understand it
· To be shared with other individuals
· Motivates others to become involved
· To be acted on or implemented
Habakkuk 2:3
· For a specific time in the future
· Trust and wait for it
· It is not to be discarded because it will grow and blossom.
If God offers a vision, he will also offer provision, a way forward.

Be humble or you’ll stumble. -Bumper sticker for today
James 1:19
Sin will always make you stumble.
It’s time to answer the question!
Are you a Stumbling in your sin?
Are you a stumbling block to others?
Is your heart right with God?
Are you giving 110% to the Lord?
Are you serving the Lord only when it is convenient to you?
Are you faithful to God?
Romans 14:13 KJV
Let us not therefore judge one another anymore: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.
The difference between stumbling blocks and stepping is the way you use them.

And his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts:
‘I am the First and I am the Last;
Besides Me there is no God.
7 And who can proclaim as I do?
Then let him declare it and set it in order for Me,
Since I appointed the ancient people.
And the things that are coming and shall come,
Let them show these to them.
8 Do not fear, nor be afraid;
Have I not told you from that time, and declared it?
You are My witnesses.
Is there a God besides Me?
Indeed there is no other Rock;
I know not one.’ ”
Do you recognize these names?
Astarte, Asherah, Cherobosh, Dagon, Molach, Tammuz, Baal.
These are idols, wooden trinkets, that are gone and forgotten.
The word of God has nothing positive to say about idolatry.
Exodus 20:3
You shall have no other gods before me.
Colossians 3:5
Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).
Idolatry is no longer confined to wooden trinkets. Idolatry goes by a different name.
Idolatry is anything that causes you to think less of God and is anything more important to God.
Different names for our idols:
Identity – no longer is it satisfying to be identified as a child of God
Material things
Status
Fame
Appearance
Entertainment
Social media
When you remove God, there is always the danger of idolatry. Idols will seduce you and get your priorities all out of whack.
Where will the gods of fun be when our lives are over?
Do idols transcend time and space to hear, to heal and to help you?
When was the last time a celebrity answered your prayers?
When was the last time social media took away your pain?
Can one’s desire for idols save you?

Sermon Notes:
When you are reading the Bible and you are struggling with understanding – God’s word always delivers.
We need God’s pure words without substitutes. God’s word alone.
Substitutes that we often replace
Gossip (we don’t fact check gossip)
Being fueled by vengeance (the word of God is clear, it belongs to God)
Lying
Cheating in any way
Addictions
A substitute will always dehydrate the body and will also dehydrate the soul – ultimately your trust in God and his work. Substitutes will always return void.
James 1:21
Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
John 17:17
Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

Jesus is teaching a truth that has stood the test of time.
Jesus is teaching the fear of God.
v. 27 – Jesus is speaking of the dark. When he was with the apostles, a lot of what he was sharing, they did not understand. Think of the dark as misunderstanding or a certain time of day when secrets are shared.
Think of the light as perfect understanding, meaning later on it will be understood.
Housetops – during Bible times and in the middle East, the housetop was an important place that folks would lounge and bathe, it was cooler. Gossip/communication was shared from the housetops.
v. 28 – Fearing the Lord means to respect and revere, that we need to give the utmost reverence and respect to the Almighty. Who are we fearing? Who are we giving our utmost respect and reverence to?
Why do we need to ask ourselves who we are respecting and revering? In times of suffering, confusion and waiting, you and I can grow and not just grunt our way through it. You and I can win and not just wither. We can trust the truth of God’s word.
v. 30 – God numbered your hairs.
v. 31 – Do not fear, you are more important and have a greater value than these sparrows.

Genesis 12:3

And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Isaiah 49:66 Indeed He says, ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant
To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel;
I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles,
That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ”

**Promise:
Acts 1:8**
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Prayer:
Acts 1: 12-14
12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey. 13 And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.
Praise:
Acts 2: 46-47
46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

This is the longest prayer recorded of Jesus.
Specific title is the Great High Priestly Prayer.
Role of a priest: a mediator between God & man.
A priest in that time offered blood sacrifices to atone for sins of the people and for the priest themselves. Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice. That ended all sacrifices.
The word glory, in Greek, is doxa and it means praise, honor and worthy.
How do we glorify God every day?
1. By our faith
2. By our worship

Scripture:
1 Thessalonians 2:1-4
2 For you yourselves know, brethren, that our coming to you was not in vain. 2 But even after we had suffered before and were spitefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God in much conflict. 3 For our exhortation did not come from error or uncleanness, nor was it in deceit. 4 But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.
Psalm 37: 23
Leader: The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
All: And He delights in his way. Amen.
Questions for consideration:
Do you alter yourself before certain people in order to make or keep them happy?
Do you act or speak in a certain way to fit in with one crowd and then transform yourself to fit in somewhere else?
Pleasing people can become very exhausting. IF you’re goal in life is to please someone else, that in itself can become an idol.
You must not be defined by someone else.
You’re number one goal is to honor God first and then prioritize your life in that way.
Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Hebrews 13:16
So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

Are you in need of a blessing?
Yes. Every one of us are in need of a blessing.
If you are in need of an everyday blessing, then making the Bible your constant companion by reading, studying and meditating on scripture every day will be a blessing that will continue to bless you beyond the minute, hour and day.
You may be asking this question:
Where do I start? I am buried spiritually.
The first four books of the new testament – the gospels.
Judges 15: 19
19 So God split the hollow place that is in Lehi, and water came out, and he drank; and his spirit returned, and he revived. Therefore he called its name En Hakkore, which is in Lehi to this day.
Genesis 45: 25-28
25 Then they went up out of Egypt, and came to the land of Canaan to Jacob their father.
26 And they told him, saying, “Joseph is still alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt.” And Jacob’s heart stood still, because he did not believe them.
27 But when they told him all the words which Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the carts which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived.
28 Then Israel said, “It is enough. Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”
Psalm 80: 17-19
17 Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself.
18 Then we will not turn back from You; Revive us, and we will call upon Your name.
19 Restore us, O Lord God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved!
For your spiritual growth:
Do you feel spiritually faint?
Do you crave more out of life, more out of your relationship with God?
Are you dissatisfied with society’s definition of truth?

Sermon Notes:
Lesson 1
Jesus teachings remain the same
To love God
To love Neighbor
To forgive
To care for the sick
To visit those in prison
To provide for the least of these
To repent and believe the gospel
Lesson 2
When your heart burns for the Lord, pay attention to that.
We knew they were upset – they had heard that Jesus rose, but they still had a doubt. This was a first for them.
When they understood and had the encounter with Jesus, doubt turned to belief. Sadness turned to joy and confusion turned to clarity. These principles apply to us today.
Lesson 3
We can walk down the Emmaus road forever meaning we can always chase the next big thing, conform or surrender to society’s standard running away from any accountability to God. We have a choice to do that, but if we are always running in the opposite way that God calls us to, that comes at a price. If we continue down that road distracted, then we will always continue to live in a state of despair, confusion and fear. This kind of living is a reality where evil will always have the last word and where death is always the end of life.
You can use the Emmaus road as a teaching tool from Jesus Christ himself, meaning we can hear his word, ask God to open our ears and heart daily to your word and its truth, and light a fire within us. Then you will be tasked to share the Good News.
Society will always want you to conform to their agenda. When you don’t, you get labeled as a bad, evil or bigoted person. That is bad news and it is unfortunate that Christians are turning on each other and playing a blame game against each other. It divides and disrupts the gospel message.

Temptation of Jesus:
1. Satisfactions
2. Powers
3. Beauties
Giving in to temptation only adds to the spiritual pain of a believer.
Consequences of giving in to sin are isolation, loneliness, spiritual dehydration, and sick with sin.
James 4: 7-8
Therefore submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
When you feel temptation’s pull:
1. Submit to God
2. Resist the devil
3. Draw near to God

Prayer:
Renew my heart
Open my heart to You
Create something new within me
Pastor Brad Franklin talks about the difference between giving information and sharing gossip and how to deal with it.
Watch this episode on our YouTube channel:
Sermon Notes:
How to differentiate gossip and information:
1. Purpose: What is the purpose of what someone is sharing with you? To build them up or tear them down? Is it an attack on that individual? Are you betraying their trust?
2. Tone: How is the tone by which the information is shared? Watch body language and verbal cues.
3. Impact: What is the impact of the information given? Is it out of genuine concern that the information is being shared?
When an individual in being gossiped about it is an attack of the image of God in that person.
Gossip has no landing pad, once it leaves one’s mouth, it is passed on to others that put their spin on it and pass it on. It cannot be taken back.
1. Create an atmosphere that keeps a gossip away.
2. Encourage someone you know that gossips to use their filter.
3. Pray before you speak – Lord, help me process, understand and use this information the way I am supposed to whether that is sharing with a trusted person or keep to myself.

Watch this episode on our YouTube channel:

Sermon Notes:
Listen to the benefits of asking God for wisdom as you pray.
Wisdom is Greater than Gold:
King Solomon, who abounded with both wisdom and gold said "How much better to get wisdom than gold “To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver." Proverbs 16:16.
Wisdom is of benefit to others:
King Solomon said, “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed-Proverbs 13:20. The people we associate with will have an effect on us. If we are teachable, being with the wise will increase our wisdom and help us to grow.
Wisdom provides the means necessary to make great leaders:
Solomon felt that wisdom was so important in being an effective ruler that it was what he asked for when God granted him all he wanted and then some. Leadership requires wisdom to properly handle the responsibility.
Wisdom empowers you with people skills:
Wisdom helps you to get along with people (Proverbs 11:12).
Wisdom helps pacify others’ anger (Proverbs 16:14).
Wisdom helps you to know when to stop speaking (Proverbs 29:11)
Wisdom helps us to persuade others to help us (Daniel 2: 14)

Scripture:
Luke 17:11-19
11 Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. 12 Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. 13 And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
14 So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.
15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.
17 So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? 18 Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19 And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”
Sermon Notes:
A quote about healing:
“An unhealed person can find offense in pretty much anything someone does. A healed person understands that the actions of others have nothing to do with them. Each day you get to decide which one you will be”.
“If you’re healed then you only need Jesus once, if you seek Jesus for salvation then you need Him every day (wholeness)”

Scripture & Responsive:
Colossians 2:20-23
20Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations— 21 “Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” 22 which all concern things which perish with the using—according to the commandments and doctrines of men? 23 These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.
Matthew 6:33
Leader: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,
All: and all these things shall be added to you. Amen.

Watch this episode on our YouTube channel:

Sermon Notes:
"Rejection served a vital function in our past. In our hunter/gatherer days, being ostracized from our tribes was akin to a death sentence, as we were unlikely to survive for long alone. Psychologists assume the brain developed an early warning system to alert us when we were at risk for ostracism.
Those who experienced rejection as more painful (i.e., because rejection mimicked physical pain in their brain) gained an advantage—they were more likely to correct their behavior and consequently, more likely to remain in the tribe.”
Jesus was rejected:
Jesus faced rejection from family-John 7:5
Jesus faced rejection from his community-Matthew 13: 57

Sermon Notes:
There’s a BIG difference between having Victory mindset vs. a Victim mindset:
And I quote-
The victim believes the whole world is against them. The victor believes the whole world needs them.
The victim sees a challenge as an obstacle. The victor considers the obstacle to be an opportunity.
The victim blames others for their failure. The victor takes personal responsibility for success or failure.
The victim is never satisfied and is always looking for something more. The victor is grateful for what they already have and build upon that to succeed in life.
The victim feels like everybody owes them something. The victor believes nobody owes them anything.
The victim lives off other people. The victor lives to bless other people.
The victim only sees closed doors. The victor only sees open doors.
The victim spreads a negative attitude to others. The victor spreads a positive attitude.
The victim is pessimistic. The victor is optimistic.
The victim plays on the emotions of others. The victor releases the passion of others.
The victim has faith in evil to make things worse. The victor has faith in God to make things better.

Think about this….and I quote- “Never forget that other people know things about you from only three sources: What you tell them, what they imagine or assume is true, and what other people tell them about you. There is so much room for error, it should rarely be a surprise that you’re incompletely understood.”
Life is based on perception. Perception is based on opinion. Opinion is based on thought. Thought comes from the mind. Change your mind, change your life.
And a Biblical understanding on perception:
Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Sermon Notes:
Old Testament Meaning of the word Hosanna
“Hosanna” is the English rendering of the Hebrew word hoshianna which is found only in Ps 118:25-"Save now, I pray, O LORD; O LORD, I pray, send now prosperity."
Over the centuries hosanna’s meaning and usage gradually changed, and it evolved into a general cry of jubilation, a word of welcome, or a joyful acclamation of praise roughly equivalent to “Hail,” a greeting of honor for a king or a dignitary, or a liturgical or spiritual acclamation for God. In contemporary jargon it could easily mean “Hail to the chief!” “Praise God!” “Praise the Lord,” or “Alleluia!”

Context and Highlights about the book of Isaiah:
CHAPTERS: 66
VERSES: 1,292
WORDS: 37,044
OBSERVATIONS ABOUT ISAIAH:
Isaiah is like a miniature Bible:
-The first 39 chapters, like the 39 books of the Old Testament, are filled with judgment upon immoral and
idolatrous men.
-The final 27 chapters, like the 27 books of the New Testament, declare a message of hope
Isaiah has been called:
-The “Messianic Prophet”
-The “Paul of the Old Testament”
-The Shakespeare of the prophets
**Isaiah was a prophet to the Southern Kingdom of Judah and presents a series of oracles against:
-**Babylon
-Assyria
-Philistia
-Moab
-Damascus (Syria)
-Ethiopia
-Egypt
-Edom
-Arabia
-Jerusalem (Judah)
-Tyre
Scripturally:
The Red Sea was parted for the Israelites to safely pass through on dry ground and escape their enemy. (Exodus 14: 21-31)
He shut the mouth of the lions for Daniel who was shut in their den all night long, so he could be a living testimony to the faithfulness and almighty power of God. (Daniel 6:22)
And the story continues with God as the Waymaker in Jesus Christ-
He calms the storm with a simple command of His voice. “Even the wind and waves obey Him!” (Mark 4: 37-41)
Jesus fed thousands who were hungry from only five loaves of bread and two fish. He ensured everyone man, woman and child would not leave hungry. There was even an abundance left over. (Luke 9: 13-17)
He brought miracle healing everywhere He went; healing lepers completely and wholly (Luke 17: 11-19) and restored a woman with chronic bleeding for 12 years who had been considered an outcast in her community (Luke 8: 43-48), and gave sight to a man born blind (John 9: 1-6), and countless other miracle healings in His ministry on earth.

Prayer:
Help me use this year’s Lent to stoke a hunger for you all year. Help me realize I am not “too busy” or “too important” to not seek your voice, your security, your deliverance.
As you search me, cleanse me, and use me to glorify you all the days of my life here, stand in the way of things that overstuff my life, blurring my vision of you as my provider.
I’ve given up ___________ this Lent. But I want to know what is next for me. Please be Lord of my every day. Reach me, break through, show me your glory.
What would you have me turn from, so I can be filled with your presence all year? Reveal to me what you would have me turn toward, so I can humbly, and gratefully, share you sustenance with others.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pulls Others Up Rather than Pushing Others Down:
Pulling Others Up:
· Be Quick to Listen and Slow to Talk-James 1: 19
· Pray for someone who is hurting or burdened-Philippians 4: 13
· Be Patient-Ephesians 4: 2
· Encourage your spouse, family member, or friend-1 Thessalonians 5: 11
· Celebrate someone else’s “wins”-Romans 12: 15
This is what it means to Push Others Down:
· Corrupting Talk-Ephesians 4: 29
· Harboring-Judgement-Matthew 7: 1
· Bitterness, Wrath, Anger and Clamor-Ephesians 4: 31-32
And I quote “Most people find anger addictive because it makes their egos feel righteous, justified or victimized. Pointing the finger at another is much easier than examining one’s own Shadows.“

Prayers:
1. Thank God for the blood of Jesus that takes away your sin.
2. Lord, thank you for the freedom you give to enjoy life in abundance.
3. I reject every trap of the enemy, such as sin in the mighty name of Jesus.
Oh God,
Whatever I can give up for Lent will never match what you gave. I’m not able to do what you have done, and my small actions serve only as desperate wildflowers waving in an open field of your mercy, in surrender to your majesty.
As I clear away distractions you invite me to let go of, hear my prayer of gratitude. That you are real. That you are truth. That you prepare a place for me whether I am in want or in plenty.
Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice of your only Son, Jesus, so that I can know that no matter what the world temps me with…there is power to overcome. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

1 Corinthians 10:31
Dear God,
I know you see me. I know you see that although I know you, I still chase after so many worldly lies of affirmation. I still seek validation of my worth by going along with the crowd or performing.
Help me to not boast of my Lent choices, but rather share only when you led me. Help me to listen for your voice, not mine.
I’m not walking through intentional sacrifice to glorify myself and my will. But to remember how much you gave up so that I can offer your hope to others. Help me to not be a clanging cymbal, or focus on my lack over Lent, but to shine more clearly your pure radiance from the joy of knowing you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Biblical Symbolism of a shield-We turn to Ephesians 6: 13-17
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
Listen to what the word of God says about the Lord being a shield:
Psalm 3: 1-4
3 Lord, how they have increased who trouble me!
Many are they who rise up against me.
2 Many are they who say of me,
“There is no help for him in God.”
3 But You, O Lord, are a shield for me,
My glory and the One who lifts up my head.
4 I cried to the Lord with my voice,
And He heard me from His holy hill.
Psalm 33: 18-22
Our soul waits for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield.
21 For our heart shall rejoice in Him,
Because we have trusted in His holy name.
22 Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us,
Just as we hope in You.
Psalm 84: 9-12
O God, behold our shield,
And look upon the face of Your anointed.
10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
The Lord will give grace and glory;
No good thing will He withhold
From those who walk uprightly.
12 O Lord of hosts,
Blessed is the man who trusts in You!

Heavenly Father,
Silence the noise in my soul. Empty me of cravings for things of this world that do not satisfy. Fill me with the bread of your presence and the living water of your mercy. I have honored the temporal delights of so many unfulfilling habits and I am ready for freedom. Wash me of all my addictions, all of my failings and temptations, even if only minute by minute. Pick me up and hold me this day and every day as I praise youi for who you are. Remind me that it is your power in me not mine own that offers life to others. Wash this vessel, oh Lord, prepare me for renewal.

Slide 1:
Think about this:
When we worry about bills, we are not believing the promise of Matthew 6:33:
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
When we seek revenge, we are not believing the promise of Romans -12:19:
“Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge, I will pay them back,” says the Lord.”
When we boast, we are not believing the truth of 1 Corinthians 4: 7:
For what gives you the right to make such a judgment? What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?”
When we are afraid, we are not believing the promise of Isaiah 41: 10:
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
When we lust, we are not believing the warning of Mark 9: 47- 48:
“And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out. It’s better to enter the Kingdom of God with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, ‘where the maggots never die and the fire never goes out.”

He forgives your sins and offers you eternal life.
He redeems your life from the pit, crowns you with love and compassion, and restores your soul.
He satisfies your desires with good things (His blessings are tailor-made for you).
He does not treat you as you deserve to be treated (based on your sins) or repay you according to your iniquities (even though your sins separate you from Him for eternity).
He is patient with you and loves you greatly (His love never gives up on you).
He removes your transgressions as far as the east is from the west.

Silversmiths would refine silver by putting it in a crucible in the hottest part of the fire, and they would effectively burn off any impurities, and then they would take the crucible out of the fire and pour out the pure silver. The fire gets rid of what is bad, the impurities in the silver or waste of the grain harvest.
Malachi talks specifically about the descendants of Levi being refined so that they can present offerings to the Lord in righteousness. The descendants of Levi, the Levites, were the priests. They were the ones authorized to make sacrifices to God on behalf of the people. But by Malachi’s time, they weren’t doing a good job.
He doesn’t tell us exactly what was wrong, but we can guess. They may have been skimming a bit off the sacrifices for themselves, they may have been taking advantage of their position, they may have been becoming full of their own importance, they may have become complacent and done a half-hearted job, or simply neglected their job. They’d become, if you like, impure. Their conduct needed to be refined.

Sermon Notes:
Context and Intro:
When Paul wrote this letter, he may have been feeling a bit hopeless, like it was going to be impossible for him to get back to the community of Thessalonians. He offered the community a prayer and a blessing as a way to be with them and share his love for them.
He extended his love outward and invited the community to do the same. It seems like the Thessalonian community cherished this letter and kept it safe, since the letter became part of our Biblical canon. Perhaps Paul’s words acted like a balm and a blessing to the community in their time of need.
Our hopes for one another and for the world can be a blessing too. As we move into the rest of this week and through the season of Advent, the theme of hope continues. Who might we share a blessing with this week? Our words, our hopes, and our love just might be the life-saving grace someone else needs to hear.
For example, in John 17:
First, Jesus prays that the Father would protect His church. He not only prays for physical protection, but even more He prays for spiritual protection–that the church’s faith would stay strong after Jesus left them to return to His Father (17:11).
Second, Jesus prays for His church to be sanctified…that they would be made holy; that they would know the truth of God and reflect the glory of God on earth (17:17,19).
Third, Jesus prays for those who will believe through the message of the disciples (17:20).
Jesus prays that his church will grow and that many people in all the earth will come to know Him through the faithful ministry of all His disciples.
Pray:
Lord, I’m facing an impossible situation and I need You. Give me strength and faith to come to you earnestly, knowing you’re a Good Father.

Highlights about the Book of Revelation:
It is believed that the apostle John, the author of the book of Revelation,
was 90 years old when he was exiled to the island of Patmos.
At the time of this writing the church was being persecuted by the Romans.
The great message of the Revelation is that Satan and the world cannot win and that Christ and his church cannot lose.
Those to whom the revelation letter was written would understand the message conveyed by using the largely symbolic language. Should the letter be intercepted, the Romans would not.

“I want to know one thing, the way to heaven; how to land safe on that happy shore. God Himself has condescended to teach the way; for this end He came from heaven. He hath written it down in a book. Give me that book! At any price give me the Book of God!”
-John Wesley
2 Timothy 3: 16-17
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.
Psalm 119: 9-Psalm 119:1-9
1 Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the LORD. 2 Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts. 3 They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in his paths.
Psalm 18: 30
God’s way is perfect. All the LORD’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.

James 1: 2-5
“2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.
3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”
2 Cor 4: 16-18
“16 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.
17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!
18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever."

Study Guide
1. Read 1 John 1: 1-4. How are the opening verses of this letter reminiscent of Genesis 1?
What is John trying to communicate by this similarity?
What does John declare as his reasons for writing this letter? In verse 2 John writes, “We announce to you the life of God’s coming age, which was with the father and was displayed to us.” Unfortunately the word for “age” in 1: 2 has often been translated as “eternal” or “eternity,” which gives modern readers the idea that John and other early Christian writers who refer to God’s new age were thinking of something “eternal” in the sense of “purely spiritual,” something that had nothing to do with the world of space, time and matter. That’s what people often hear when they read the phrase “eternal life,” which is what most translations have at 1: 2. But this is mistaken. John, like Paul, and indeed like Jesus himself, is thinking of the new age, the age to come, which God has promised. They were in line with what ancient Jews believed—that world history, as mentioned at the beginning of this guide, was divided into two periods or ages. The present age was full of injustice and oppression, whereas in the age to come God would put everything right—in particular rescuing his people from the evil they had suffered.
Consider what you think of when you hear the word fellowship in Christian circles. How do your impressions compare with John’s usage of the word fellowship in 1: 3?
Read 1 John 1: 5–2: 2. What contrasts does John draw between darkness and light?
What deceptions does John warn against?
What are some ways we deceive ourelves about sin? It’s all very well for John to say that we have fellowship with God himself. But what if we have already ruined our lives by carelessness, stupidity or downright wickedness? We are—or ought to be—ashamed. If only we could hide or God would give us a chance to clean up! But that’s not how it works. God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. The darkness which encroaches upon our messy, rebellious, unbelieving lives cannot survive in his sight. If we pretend to be in fellowship with him while walking in the dark (behaving in the less-than-human way we often choose), it’s like telling lies.
What does John mean by the phrase “walk in the light” (1: 7)?
How does confession of sin bring an end to deception (1: 6-9)?"

Haggai returned from Babylon with the remnant that returned under the leadership of Zerubbabel.
Haggai 2:23, Zerubbabel comes the center of the Messianic line, like a signet ring sealing both branches together.
The signet ring is small, its simple, and it has a purpose.
The signet ring of a ruler or official was a symbol of his authority. "In antiquity, they designated the identity, genealogy and status of the owner of the seal on the signet ring. Official documents or things not to be tampered with or altered were sealed with a signet ring."

Hinds' Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard
Habakkuk was a prophet to the Southern Kingdom of Judah just before the exile, when their unrepentant sinfulness was at its height, around 625-604 B.C.
God said to have faith in Him and that Israel will in time be restored unto righteousness and their enemies would be punished, which causes Habakkuk to break into a song of faith and praise.
Meaning of the name Habakkuk-“One who embraces”
35th Book in the Bible
13th of 17 books of Prophecy
8th of the 12 minor prophets
Psalm 119: 105
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”
Proverbs 3: 5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

Notes from Pastor Brad:
The growth equation for the Christian is always hearing + doing = growing.
One bible scholar phrased this passage from James in this way:
"The Greek term used here for a ‘hearer’ refers to someone who audits a class. Someone who audits a class attends when he or she pleases and listens to what interests them, but they’re not responsible to take the tests or do the homework. James says – “Don’t approach God’s Word like someone auditing a class. Don’t think that the homework is optional. Be a doer of what you are taught because someday you might be responsible to take the test.”
Joshua 1:8 – “This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it, for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Psalms 1:2-3 – “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law does he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season, his leaf also shall not wither and whatsoever he does shall prosper.”

We must celebrate with a feast, 24 for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.
25 “Meanwhile, the older son was in the fields working. When he returned home, he heard music and dancing in the house, 26 and he asked one of the servants what was going on. 27 ‘Your brother is back,’ he was told, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf. 1 Corinthians 1: 18, 21-25
18 The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.
21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. 22 It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. 23 So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.
24 But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles,[b] Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.
