Bio: Serena Gabriel studied Traditional Chinese Medicine at the International Institute of Chinese Medicine in Sante Fe, NM after earning her Bachelors in Anthropology and Studio Art at the University of Arizona. Serena is a National Diplomat in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, is licensed and in practice since 2001 in Arizona. She is trained in Acutonics, Sound Therapy, Reiki and Yoga.
Serena has been a musician and has 30+ years of formal dance training. She uses music and movement as therapy and volunteers for hospice within the community around Tucson AZ.

Justin is a holistic family care physician and integrative Medical Herbalist who specializes in the application of Functional medical testing, Medical Nutrition Therapy, and Chinese herbs in preventative care and the treatment of chronic disease. Justin was raised on a small farm in rural Illinois, where he developed a deep respect and appreciation for Nature, simple living, and natural medicines. After an intense period of Shavite Yoga practices in 1990 &1991, David apprenticed briefly with a Philippine healer and eventually felt drawn to the grounding earthy qualities of shamanism(native Indian practices). Hansen has studied Andean and Inca Shamanism with Don Oscar Miro-Quesada since 1998 as well with Jose Luis Hererra, Matt Magee, Judy Hoagland, and John Perkins. Bio for Eric Schmall: My destiny to be a healer could only be fulfilled by suffering and I would do it again because I've been able to help many people over the years as a result. In 1984 I ran away to California after getting in trouble with the law. I went to a school for alternative medicine in Garberville, CA now called Heartwood Institute. The kindness and abilities of the people there opened my eyes to the possibility that I might be able to live my life in a way that I felt was meaningful. My early years were spent observing my mother playing around with unusual ideas such as macrobiotic cooking and acupuncture. She also inspired me to become interested in alternative medicine. I worked in the health food section of a pharmacy as one of my first jobs and continued in similar positions until about a decade ago. I'm just now putting together my first office type situation so I can start seeing clients. I am ordained as a Kahuna of the Huna Heiau to perform the sacred healing art of Aumakua Therapy. The Huna Heiau was started by my Kahuna, Lani about 20 years ago. Aumakua Therapy was created by Beau Kitselman in the 1940's (I believe). I can also heal with my ki'i kukui nuts which are blessed over a period of a few weeks to create a healing icon. I'm also able to infuse mana into soft tissue to stop pain and reduce inflammation. I will be retraining myself to do Huna Tarot readings in the near future. -ES

Martin W. Ball, Ph.D., is a writer, independent publisher, energy worker and musician currently living in Ashland Oregon. We are so honored to interview Ralph Metzner, PhD to discuss his books, "Alchemical Divination, "Mind Space and Time Stream" and the recent book he co-authored with Ram Dass, "Birth of a Psychedelic Culture". Ralph Metzner, Ph.D. who has a B.A. in philosophy and psychology from Oxford University and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Harvard University, has been involved in the study of transformations of consciousness ever since, as a graduate student, he worked with Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert (later Ram Dass) on the Harvard Psilocybin Projects. He co-wrote The Psychedelic Experience, and was editor of The Psychedelic Review. During the 1970s, Ralph spent 10 years in the intensive study and practice of Agni Yoga, a meditative system of working with light-fire life-energies. He wrote Maps of Consciousness, one of the earliest attempts at a comparative cartography of consciousness; and Know Your Type, a comparative survey of personality typologies, ancient and modern. He was the Academic Dean for ten years, during the 1980s, at the California Institute of Integral Studies, where he taught courses there on “Altered States of Consciousness” and “Developing Ecological Consciousness.” He is now Professor Emeritus. He maintains a part-time psychotherapy practice, and conducts numerous workshops on consciousness transformation, both nationally and internationally. His books include The Well of Remembrance, The Unfolding Self, Green Psychology, and two edited collections on the science and the phenomenology of Ayahuasca and Teonanácatl. Trevahr interviews Rick Doblin about MAPS and the progressive task of bringing psychedelic medicine to the approving eyes of the public and lawmakers in the USA. He talks about current projects in 2010. Rick Doblin, PhD, is the founder and executive director of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS; maps.org). He received his doctorate in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, where he wrote his dissertation on the regulation of the medical uses of psychedelics and marijuana and his Master's thesis on a survey of oncologists about medical marijuana for cancer patients. Rick studied with Dr. Stanislav Grof and was among the first to be certified as a Holotropic Breathwork practitioner. His professional goal is to develop legal contexts for the beneficial uses of psychedelics and marijuana, primarily as prescription medicines but also for personal growth for healthy people, and eventually to become a legally licensed psychedelic therapist. He founded MAPS in 1986, and currently resides in Boston with his wife and three children.

His thesis further investigated correlations between political attitudes and drug policy beliefs, and he tested the effectiveness of several arguments for drug policy reform. Randy formerly was the program coordinator at the Ibogaine Association in Mexico. He was the founder and president of SDSU’s chapter of Students for Sensible Drug Policy, and he interned for the Drug Policy Alliance in San Diego. Ethnobotany is the study of how people of a particular culture and region make use of their indigenous plants for such things as food, shelter, medicine, clothing, hunting, and religious ceremonies.
Shamanism encompasses the belief that shamans are messengers between the human world and the spirit worlds. Shamans are said to treat ailments or illness by mending the soul. Alleviating traumas affecting the soul or spirit restores the physical body of the individual to balance and wholeness. The shaman also enters supernatural realms or dimensions to obtain solutions to problems afflicting the community. Shamans may visit other worlds or dimensions to bring guidance to misguided souls. The shaman operates primarily within the spiritual world, which in turn affects the human world. The restoration of balance results in the elimination of the ailment.
