A 10,000mAh power bank that feels shockingly light sounds like marketing hype until you hold one. We take a close look at the Flextail Zero Power Bank, a carbon fiber ultralight charger that aims to beat the usual backpacking and travel staples on weight, size, and everyday convenience.
We start with the basics that matter when you are packing for hiking, camping, or airports: the Flextail Zero comes in around 145 grams (5.1 ounces), and that carbon fiber shell is designed to handle the knocks that happen in the real world. We also talk about the IPX4 rating, what “splash resistant” actually means, and why it is not the same as waterproof if you are planning wet-weather trips.
Then we get into the feature that genuinely changes how you pack: a built-in USB-C cord that stores right on the unit via a lanyard-style attachment. If you have ever reached for a battery bank and realized your cable is missing, this design is the simplest fix possible. We also test phone charging behavior, discuss the fast-charge handshake we see on connection, and break down the double-press modes that switch between regular power and a supercharged option. The spec claim of up to 22.5W fast charging comes up too, along with what we still want to test over longer runs.
We close by weighing the trade-offs: IPX4 limitations, the value of carbon fiber durability, airline-friendly UN38.3 compliance, and whether the roughly $53.99 price feels fair for an ultralight 10,000mAh power bank built for outdoor adventures and travel. If you are trying to build a lighter kit without giving up reliable charging, this one is worth a serious look. Subscribe for more gear reviews, share this with a hiking buddy, and leave a review with your go-to power bank pick.

A desert ranch hidden in plain sight can tell you more about survival than a shelf of motivational books. We’re heading out on the Keys Ranch tour inside Joshua Tree National Park and sharing the most interesting highlights from a ranger-led walk through Bill Keys’ homestead, workshops, and the strange, fascinating “junkyard” of parts and artifacts that still sits in the open air.
We talk through what you can actually see on the route: the main ranch property, the store building built for travelers, and the small details that make the place feel real, like the mother-in-law cabin and the kitchen area where an evaporative fridge cooled food without modern power. Water is the constant thread, from the windmill used to pump extra supply to the dam and retaining wall efforts that show just how hard it is to make a life work in the Mojave Desert. If you love Joshua Tree history, California desert homesteads, or practical self-reliance, this is the kind of site that sticks with you.
We also dig into the scrappy, entrepreneurial side of Keys Ranch: early rental cabins for park visitors, the option to rent a bed frame and sleep under the stars, and the way a stash of spare parts becomes a lifeline when you’re far from town. Mining history shows up too, with equipment like a one-stamp mill and a sluice used to process ore in hopes of finding gold. We wrap with planning tips, including the reservation-only requirement, the roughly 90-minute length, and why cooler weather makes the experience even better.
If you’re thinking about visiting Joshua Tree, hit play, then subscribe, share this with a friend who loves national parks, and leave a review so more people can find the show.

A lot of hiking advice quietly assumes you live near a famous national park, have endless vacation time, and already know what you’re doing. We wanted something more honest and more useful, so I sat down with Stephanie Pearson, a National Geographic Explorer and longtime Outside Magazine editor, to talk about how she built 100 Hikes of a Lifetime USA and what those trail choices say about the country. From the “big three” long trails (Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, Continental Divide Trail) to short, meaningful walks that highlight culture and history, her goal is clear: there’s a hike for everyone, everywhere.
We dig into how outdoor culture has changed over the last 30 years and why the post-COVID boom plus social media has raised the stakes for trip planning, Leave No Trace, and basic self-reliance. Stephanie shares why underrated routes like the Superior Hiking Trail can be just as demanding and beautiful as the headline hikes, and how spreading use across lesser-known trails can reduce impact on overcrowded hotspots. We also get into the practical realities that catch people off guard, especially in the Southwest: Guadalupe Peak’s altitude, dry heat, exposure, and the hard truth that you often have to pack your own water.
To close, we talk dream destinations like Alaska’s Gates of the Arctic, the push and pull of sharing trail information responsibly, the difference between solo hiking and group dynamics, and a simple gear choice that matters more than most people think: sun protection. If you care about hiking trails in the USA, public lands, and finding adventures that fit your real life, you’ll get a lot out of this conversation. Subscribe, share this with a hiking buddy, and leave a review so more people can find the show.

700-plus steps down, a windy ledge under a limestone roof, and a cliffside “apartment” complex that once held a thriving community. I’m Craig Nitromedic, and I’m taking you along the Island Trail at Walnut Canyon outside Flagstaff for a fast, grounded tour of one of Arizona’s most memorable archaeological sites.
As we walk, we look closely at how the rooms were built and expanded over time, why the limestone overhang matters, and what the layout suggests about family growth, storage, and daily life. We also talk about the hard reality of survival here: Walnut Creek sits below, but water isn’t guaranteed, so seasonal rainfall and snowmelt would have shaped how people stored water and planned ahead. Along the way, I share a clear warning about why you shouldn’t enter certain shelters today, from preservation concerns to rodents and disease risk.
We also face the site’s more troubling history. Souvenir hunting once damaged and destroyed rooms, leaving collapsed rubble that still marks the cliffside, and I explain why modern protections as a national monument make that illegal now. To wrap up, we climb back up those steps at roughly 6,670 feet, then check out the plants and wildlife that still define the canyon, including the Arizona black walnut that inspired the name, plus owls, mountain lions, snowberry, and prickly pear cactus.

Trade the crowds for silence and stone. We take you onto Codachrome Basin’s Panorama Trail in southern Utah, where red Entrada sandstone meets pale Henryville layers and the desert’s famous sand spires tell a surprising story about water, pressure, and time. Instead of hoodoos, these pillars rose from saturated sand forced upward long ago, then emerged as the softer surroundings eroded. The loop stays friendly underfoot, but the views scale up fast: Ballerina Spire, the quirky Hat Shop, tight turns through Secret Passage, and the wide-air drama of Mammoth Spire.
We walk counterclockwise, tracing simple junctions and weighing side trips with the clock. A ranger’s geology talk reframes every overlook—ancient dunes, seismic squeeze, and iron-rich reds that make the cliffs glow. The short spur to Panorama Point seals the deal, opening a sweeping look toward Bryce country without the shoulder-to-shoulder viewpoint shuffle. It’s a day built on small choices that pay off big: pause for a snack in the shade, study wind-carved textures up close, then step back and let the horizon run.
If you’re planning a Bryce Canyon trip, consider this as your quieter complement: fewer people, different formations, and a narrative of stone that deepens the whole region. We share practical tips on route direction, timing, water, and which side spurs are worth the detour so you can shape your own loop without guesswork. Hit play to learn how sand spires form, where to find the best viewpoints, and why Codachrome Basin belongs on your map. Sand that moves like a stormy sea, a creek that sings under aspen fire, and a ridge that widens the world—this Mosca Pass hike delivers more than a modest mile count suggests. We start at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, trace Mosca Creek through shifting meadows and timber, and climb a steady grade toward a saddle lined in late-September gold. Along the way, we pause at a rock marker to unpack pioneer footsteps and revisit Zebulon Pike’s vivid line about dunes as waves, then follow the faint bones of an old toll road that once pulled wagons over the range before a 1911 washout rewrote the route.
At the top, Mosca Pass opens into color: aspens flaring across the ridge, a meadow catching light, and the San Luis Valley stretching under a high, clean sky. We trade route notes—3.7 miles to the pass, about 850 feet of gain, two hours at a leisurely pace—and share small, practical wins like letting the creek set your rhythm and stopping often to look back at the dunes below. The contrast is the point here. The desert gives way to forest, history brushes against wilderness, and a gentle trail still finds a way to feel expansive. On the descent, an abandoned truck stirs a round of theories, and the old road’s profile tells a quiet story about water and time.
If you’re scouting Colorado hikes with fall color, moderate effort, and real payoff, Mosca Pass belongs on your list. Come for the views and stay for the textures: the hiss of meadow grass, the cool draw by the creek, the sudden hush in the trees. Watch, share your best guess about the truck’s fate, and tell us your favorite shoulder-season hike. If you enjoy the journey, tap 'subscribe,' hit the thumbs up, and share this episode with a friend who needs an easy win with a panoramic finish.

Ever wondered what geological treasures hide near Colorado's Great Sand Dunes? Join me on a refreshing detour to Zapata Falls, where ancient glacial forces created a stunning 25-foot waterfall tucked away in a rocky chasm.
The adventure begins with a scenic half-mile hike through BLM land, leading to Zapata Creek. Don't be afraid to get your feet wet—the final approach requires wading through shallow water and navigating slippery rocks, but the reward is absolutely worth it! As I discovered, the falls cascade dramatically into what locals call the "Pot of Falls," creating a cool, misty sanctuary that contrasts beautifully with the nearby desert landscape.
What makes this site particularly fascinating is its geological history. The waterfall formed approximately two million years ago when glaciers shaped the San Gregorio de Cristo mountains. These ancient ice masses deposited enormous rock piles (moraines) and created weak spots where water could carve its way through—eventually forming the falls we see today. This natural wonder offers a perfect example of how diverse Colorado's landscape truly is, with sand dunes and waterfalls existing just miles apart.
If you're planning a trip to Great Sand Dunes National Park, I strongly recommend adding Zapata Falls to your itinerary. The entire hike is only about a mile round trip, making it accessible for most visitors while still feeling like you've discovered something special off the beaten path. Sometimes you really should chase waterfalls! Have you explored any hidden gems near famous national parks? Sometimes the best adventures come from unexpected detours. When bad weather derailed my plans to summit Mount Elbert, I discovered the hidden gem of Interlaken Trail near Leadville, Colorado – a 5-mile journey that transports hikers through time to a preserved "ghost resort" nestled along Twin Lakes.
The trail offers stunning views of Mount Elbert (Colorado's highest peak) before arriving at the historic Interlaken resort complex. The crown jewel is the Dexter Cabin, an impressive Victorian-era house complete with multiple bedrooms, sitting areas, and a distinctive cupola offering 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains and lakes. Walking through its rooms, you can almost feel the presence of the wealthy visitors who once vacationed here during Colorado's mining boom.
Founded in 1879 by Mr. Staley and later purchased by Mr. Dexter, this resort once represented mountain luxury at its finest. Guests enjoyed steamboat rides on Twin Lakes, billiards, and various outdoor activities on the expansive grounds. The resort's decline came with Mr. Dexter's death in 1899, but its buildings have been remarkably preserved. In the 1970s, the Bureau of Reclamation saved the structures by moving them to higher ground when developing Twin Lakes as a water storage reservoir – the original foundations now lie somewhere beneath the water's surface.
Beyond the main cabin, the site includes barns, bathhouses (surprisingly equipped with leather seats), and smaller outbuildings that help complete the picture of this once-bustling resort. The entire hike takes about three hours round trip, making it perfect for history enthusiasts and outdoor lovers alike who want to experience a fascinating piece of Colorado's past.

Ever stumbled upon a natural wonder that feels like a well-kept secret? That's exactly what awaits at Spence Hot Springs, tucked away in New Mexico's breathtaking Jemez Mountains.
Nestled within the Santa Fe National Forest just outside Jemez Springs, these thermal pools offer a perfect blend of accessibility and natural beauty. After a quick 0.4-mile hike across the Jemez River, you'll discover a series of warm, soothing pools cascading down the mountainside. The main upper pool accommodates about a dozen people, while smaller pools below create a natural multi-tiered spa experience. Perhaps most intriguing is the small cave adjacent to the main pool – a natural sauna where the warm water makes a perfect retreat from the mountain air.
My midweek visit revealed the stark advantage of weekday exploration. With the place nearly to myself, I could fully appreciate the tranquil sounds of flowing water and the pristine mountain surroundings without distraction. The water temperature feels like a comfortable, warm bath, perfect for soaking tired muscles while taking in panoramic views of the national forest. While not scalding hot, the springs provide a gentler thermal experience that many find more enjoyable than intensely hot springs elsewhere.
Visitors should note the limited parking (approximately eight spaces), potential weekend crowds, and the importance of responsible stewardship. Remember not to ingest the spring water, pack out all trash, and respect clothing requirements due to the springs' proximity to public areas. These simple courtesies help preserve this natural treasure for future explorers.
Have you experienced New Mexico's hot springs? Share your story in the comments below and subscribe for more hidden gems across the Southwest's magnificent landscapes. If you're planning your first visit to Spence Hot Springs, I'd love to hear how it goes!

Step back in time with me as we explore the ancient wonders of Tsankawi at Bandelier National Monument. This remarkable archaeological site offers a rare window into the lives of ancestral Puebloan people who made these cliffside dwellings their home centuries ago.
Walking through what was once a bustling central plaza, I discovered pottery fragments scattered across rocks—tangible connections to those who lived here long before us. As tradition dictates, these artifacts remain undisturbed where they were found, preserving both archaeological integrity and respecting native beliefs that removing such items means taking ancestral spirits with you.
The cave dwellings themselves tell fascinating stories of ingenuity and adaptation. Natural cavities in the cliff face were skillfully enlarged and enhanced with smoke-blackened ceilings and plaster walls for insulation and strength. Imagine climbing ladders as your daily commute, moving between different levels of these vertical neighborhoods! From inside these ancient homes, perfect viewing portals frame distant landscapes, including snow-capped mountains—the same views enjoyed by residents hundreds of years ago.
Perhaps most moving are the petroglyphs etched into stone surfaces throughout the site. Spirals, directional markers, human figures, and handprints speak across time, though their exact meanings remain mysterious. When my hand perfectly matched an ancient handprint carved into rock, I felt an intimate connection spanning centuries—two humans touching across time.
Whether you're fascinated by archaeology, indigenous culture, or simply appreciate breathtaking landscapes with rich histories, Senkawi offers something truly special. Join me on this journey through time, and remember to respect and protect these precious sites so future generations can experience the same wonder. Have you visited any ancient dwellings? Standing among the towering hoodoos and balanced rocks of Chiricahua National Monument feels like stepping into another world. These extraordinary formations weren't crafted by human hands but by 32 million years of volcanic activity and persistent erosion. Located in southeastern Arizona near the small towns of Bowie and Wilcox, this hidden gem offers visitors a chance to explore one of America's most distinctive landscapes.
The scenic drive to Massai Point reveals panoramic vistas stretching up to 80 miles across the desert. From this vantage point, you can see the distant Dragoon Mountains—once the stronghold of Apache leader Cochise—and connect to an impressive network of trails. While the full 9-mile loop requires 5-6 hours, shorter options like the Echo Canyon Trail to The Grottoes provide accessible ways to experience the monument's signature formations. Walking through these natural stone corridors, with massive boulders suspended overhead, creates an almost mystical experience.
Chiricahua's significance extends beyond its stunning geology. Designated as a "sky island" wilderness, these isolated mountains form a unique ecological refuge surrounded by desert. The monument also preserves important human history at Far Away Ranch, where the Erickson family's homestead evolved from a primitive cabin to a working guest ranch. Walking among these historic structures prompts reflection on the legacies we leave behind—a thought that resonates whether you're admiring volcanic sculptures shaped over millennia or pioneer buildings constructed by determined hands. Whether you're a geology enthusiast, history buff, or simply seeking natural beauty off the beaten path, Chiricahua offers a profound connection to the forces that shape our world. Come prepared with water and sturdy shoes, and don't rush your visit—this remarkable landscape deserves time to appreciate its wonders properly.

Hidden within the rugged terrain of New Mexico's Gila National Forest lies an engineering marvel with a fascinating past. The Catwalk National Recreational Trail suspends visitors along sheer canyon walls, following a path first blazed by silver miners in the 1890s.
My journey begins at the trailhead where interpretive signs reveal the area's rich mining heritage. When silver and gold were discovered in Whitewater Canyon in 1889, ambitious prospectors built a wooden pipeline traversing three miles of treacherous terrain. Workers maintained this structure by balancing on narrow wooden planks that earned the nickname "catwalk" due to the cat-like agility required to navigate them. Though mining operations ceased by 1913, this remarkable pathway found new life decades later.
Walking the modern metal walkway, I'm struck by the dramatic juxtaposition of human engineering against raw nature. The first half-mile offers accessible, paved paths 40 feet above Whitewater Creek. Evidence of nature's power is everywhere—reinforced rock walls, mesh barriers, and countless stabilizing bolts testify to the 15 major floods that have reshaped this canyon over four decades. The 2012 flood destroyed the previous infrastructure, making today's trail a modern rebuild that honors its historic predecessor.
The canyon's volcanic geology tells an even older story. I examine fascinating formations, including pumice, lithics, and "stone bubbles"—gas pockets trapped in rock and lined with tiny crystals. The diverse ecosystem supports Ponderosa pines, Douglas firs, sycamores, and desert plants, creating a biological transition zone unique to this riparian corridor.
For those seeking adventure beyond the main attraction, the trail connects to the more challenging Whitewater Trail #207, leading deeper into the wilderness. This entire area once served as a sanctuary for Native Americans, including Geronimo, adding another layer to its remarkable story.
Whether you're fascinated by mining history, engineering achievements, geological wonders, or simply seeking stunning canyon views, the Catwalk Trail delivers an unforgettable experience that bridges New Mexico's rugged past with its preserved natural beauty. Bring proper footwear, water, and your sense of wonder—this hidden gem awaits your discovery.

Step back in time with me as we explore the hidden archaeological wonders of Hovenweep National Monument, straddling the Utah-Colorado border. Few travelers discover this remote treasure, home to remarkable stone towers built by Ancestral Puebloans nearly 1,000 years ago.
My two-hour journey around the canyon rim revealed architectural marvels that continue to defy both gravity and time. Hovenweep Castle stands proudly at the canyon edge, its multi-story structure a testament to ancient engineering prowess. The Square Tower rises dramatically from the canyon floor, while the Twin Towers perch precariously on a rock ledge, somehow surviving centuries of harsh desert conditions. Each ruin tells its story: Stronghold House, Rimrock House, Tower Point - all positioned strategically across the landscape for purposes we can only theorize about today.
What struck me most was the sophisticated construction techniques employed by people without modern tools. These weren't simple rock piles but carefully designed buildings with specific functions – possibly homes, storage facilities, defensive structures, and ceremonial spaces. Conservation efforts have evolved significantly since the 1930s, when concrete was used for repairs; today's preservationists use acrylic-modified soil that better matches original materials, maintaining both stability and historical integrity.
The two-mile loop trail provides constantly changing perspectives of these ancient dwellings, each view more impressive than the last. For anyone fascinated by human ingenuity, archaeological mysteries, or simply beautiful desert landscapes, Hovenweep offers a contemplative journey through a truly deserted valley where the achievements of ancient peoples stand in silent testimony to their remarkable civilization. Have you explored ancient ruins that left you similarly awestruck? I'd love to hear about your experiences with archaeological wonders!

The quest for natural wonders often leads to unexpected discoveries. My journey to San Francisco Hot Springs, tucked away in New Mexico's Gila National Forest, proved to be exactly that kind of revelation.
Setting off from the trailhead in my truck (affectionately named "Black Panther"), I began the 1.3-mile descent toward the promise of wild thermal waters. The trail offered solitude interrupted only by chance encounters—a horseback rider with his pack of hunting dogs, and later, two surprisingly friendly burros wearing bells who eagerly ate peanuts from my hand. These unplanned animal meetings added a layer of charm to the adventure that no developed hot spring could provide.
Reaching the springs required crossing the ice-cold San Francisco River, where the water reached just below my knees. The reward waiting on the other side was worth wet feet: natural pools where thermal waters bubble up alongside the river, creating perfect soaking spots. Unlike commercial hot springs, these wild pools held a different magic—lukewarm waters shared with tiny fish, all surrounded by the untamed beauty of the desert-forest transition zone. The contrast between the frigid river and the comforting warmth of the geothermal pool created a sensory experience that connected me deeply to the landscape.
The entire adventure—from trailhead to hot springs and back—took about 3.23 miles of hiking and roughly two hours, including a leisurely soak. For anyone seeking to escape the developed world, even briefly, this hidden gem offers both challenge and comfort. The springs' primitive nature means they're constantly changing with the river's patterns, ensuring each visit offers something new.
Have you explored wild hot springs before? If not, the San Francisco Hot Springs might be your perfect introduction to nature's therapeutic waters. Pack water shoes for the river crossing, watch for the thorny desert vegetation, and don't forget treats to make friends with the local burros!

The weathered footings of a washed-away bridge stand as silent sentinels on either side of the Tularosa River in New Mexico's Gila National Forest. Most hikers would turn back at this obstacle, but those who wade across discover something extraordinary—centuries-old petroglyphs etched into stone walls whisper stories from a distant past.
My journey along the Walking the Past Trail began with an easy-to-miss trailhead northeast of Reserve, NM. The three-mile round-trip hike presents two remarkable historical treasures. First, an authentic forest ranger cabin built in 1905 for just $50 stands as the last remnant of the original Tularosa Ranger Station. Walking through its modest doorway, I couldn't help but marvel at the lives of those early rangers who earned only $60 monthly while supplying their horses and equipment. These pioneers of conservation built trails, fought fires, and established the foundations of modern forest management.
Beyond the cabin lies the prize that draws most visitors—extensive petroglyph panels that require a river crossing to access. These aren't simple graffiti but complex symbols pecked into stone using primitive tools. Birds, anthropomorphic figures, animals, and geometric patterns cover the rock faces in a protected alcove. Unlike some more accessible sites, these remain remarkably free from modern vandalism, creating an intimate connection with those ancient artists who left their mark here centuries ago.
The petroglyphs raise fascinating questions: Were they purely artistic expression or practical communication? Did they record essential events, spiritual beliefs, or daily observations? While interpretive panels offer some insights, much remains mysterious, inviting visitors to form their connections with these enduring messages from the past.

Venture with me along the mesmerizing Blue Mesa Trail, where time itself seems written into the landscape of Petrified Forest National Park. On this brisk March day, I braved the characteristic winds of northeastern Arizona to bring you an intimate tour of one of the park's most beloved hiking paths.
The Blue Mesa Trail is a geological wonderland – a relatively easy one-mile loop with just 120 feet of elevation change that delivers spectacular rewards. As we descend from the mesa top into a sheltered gully, the full splendor of the badlands unfolds around us. Vibrant bands of blue, purple, gray, and brown ripple across the eroded hillsides, each color representing distinct sedimentary layers deposited during the Late Triassic epoch, roughly 225 million years ago.
Walking the asphalt path that protects this fragile environment, we discover the fascinating story of these rock formations. The topmost sandstone layer, composed of pebbles and cobbles, reveals ancient high-velocity streams that once flowed here. Lower layers of finer sediments tell of calmer waters and changing environments through deep time. Perhaps most remarkable are the scattered pieces of petrified wood – ancient trees transformed into stone through a remarkable mineralization process, preserving their cellular structure while replacing organic material with brilliant crystals.
The Blue Mesa's otherworldly beauty showcases nature's artistry through geology, offering photographers endless opportunities for stunning compositions. Whether you're a casual hiker seeking unique landscapes or a science enthusiast fascinated by Earth's history, this trail delivers an unforgettable experience in just 45 minutes of walking time.

Walking through the Parowan Gap Petroglyphs in southwestern Utah reveals ancient rock carvings that tell stories of migration, astronomical knowledge, and the spiritual beliefs of Native American peoples who inhabited this area centuries ago.
• Located near St. George and Cedar City, the gap is an ancient dried riverbed cutting through solid rock
• The Paiute people call the creators of these symbols the "Winoos" - their ancestors who were the first settlers
• One significant panel depicts migration from an "old world" to a "new world," showing hardships like famine, drought, water crossings, and extreme weather
• Petroglyphs show a leader who died upon reaching the new land, depicted with an arrow in his head and shown upside-down
• Archaeoastronomer Noel and archaeologist V. Garth Norman revealed these carvings track celestial movements with remarkable precision
• The site aligns with solstice events, with the sun appearing directly in the gap on the summer solstice
• Different techniques were used to create petroglyphs: pecking (striking with tools), incising (cutting), and abrading (rubbing)
• The site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969
• Mormon pioneers led by Parley Pratt made contact with Ute leader Chief Wakara, who called this area "God's own house"
• These petroglyphs demonstrate how ancient peoples maintained intimate connections with the natural world

We explore the Giant Logs Trail at Petrified Forest National Park, discovering how ancient wood transformed into stone through a mineralization process spanning millions of years. The trail showcases remarkable geological treasures while revealing the park's rich human history dating back to the early days of the National Park Service.
• Ancient conifers similar to modern pines formed the original forest before being preserved in stone
• "Old Faithful" stands as the most extensive preserved log, struck by lightning in 1962 and reconstructed by the Park Service
• The Civilian Conservation Corps built the Rainbow Forest complex during the Great Depression
• Stephen Mather, the first National Park Service Director, helped establish protection for this unique landscape
• Trace fossils visible in the petrified wood show evidence of ancient insect activity
• Distinctive badlands formations throughout the park display colorful erosion patterns where vegetation cannot grow
• The mineralized logs are primarily composed of silica and quartz, causing them to fracture differently than wood
If you enjoyed that short walk through the Giant Logs Trail here in the Rainbow Forest Complex at Petrified National Forest National Park near Holbrook, Arizona, please give it a thumbs up and consider leaving a comment. We'll see you out on the trail.

Stick with me until the final creek crossing before we reach the parking lot and conclude our journey. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and leave a comment with your thoughts or questions. Howdy! I recently picked up the Trekker Tent 1.0 from River Country Products on Amazon. It's a lightweight 1 person backpacking tent that uses a single trekking pole for setup. I love my Trekker 2.2 tent, but I was looking for a lighter version with a vestibule.
I'm taking a quick and dirty look at the River Country Products Trekker Tent 1.0. This tent is perfect for those looking for an affordable and accessible experience. I give it a quick and dirty review in this video and tell you all about the features and specifications of this tent. Don't forget to like this video and subscribe for more great content.

I recently visited Santa Fe, New Mexico, and was able to explore the Pecos Wilderness Backpacking to Lake Katherine. So join me for a grand adventure and use it to guide your own adventure. Make sure to stay at the end to see a summary of my experience with a review of the trip's good, bad, and ugly.

In this week's episode, I am talking with Dr. Nathalie Bonthius, who started her company Survival Med in 2021. Please find out more about her and her company below. (Note: Content edited for clarity and flow)
About Natalie Bonthius, MD:
Natalie Bonthius is the founder of Survival Med. She earned a bachelor's degree in Neuroscience and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Central Florida. Dr. Bonthius is a Fellow in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine, Advanced Wilderness and Expedition Provider, Advanced Wilderness Life Support Instructor, and board member of the International Association of Near-Death Studies. Her research and interests lie at the intersection of neuroscience and austere medicine. In addition to wilderness medicine and life support measures, she studies and teaches about what happens to the mind and human behavior in extreme environments and survival conditions.
About Survival Med:
Survival Med was founded in 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah, with the mission of expanding access to wilderness medicine education online. We are an affiliate of the Wilderness Medical Society (WMS), and we are the first organization to move wilderness medicine education exclusively into the virtual setting. The online platform has allowed us to reach the farthest corners of the globe and combine the expertise of physicians, paramedics, survival experts, psychologists, and search and rescue leaders on all seven continents. In addition, we provide certifications in Wilderness First Responder (WFR), Wilderness First Aid (WFA), and Basic Wilderness Survival, all entirely online.
