After Nehemiah celebrated the dedication of the walls of Jerusalem, took leave and went back to see the king. And when he returned, found all the work completely destroyed, watered down. Tobiah was not even allowed to participate in rebuilding, is now living in one of the rooms of the temple which led to neglect of the house of God. Nehemiah threw all his belongings out of the temple, ordered it to be cleansed and put back the room for its intended purpose.

Why should the people and Nehemiah celebrate and dedicate the walls of Jerusalem? It is a witness to what God accomplished in their midst. They sang and danced on the walls a testimony that the walls will not come down by mere jumping of a fox on it. The walls, the people, the priests and Levites were purified, they used musical instruments.

In this chapter Jerusalem is called "Holy City". In the Old Testament, it was Isaiah who called by that name, later we see Daniel calling it by that name. Now, Nehemiah is calling it twice in this chapter "Holy city". How did it become a holy city? They paid a huge price. First it was Ezra who helped restore the temple, later Nehemiah came to restore the walls and gates. Its security was increased by controlling who comes in and goes out. They called for putting off of the foreign wives, restored observation of Sabbath, no business on Sabbath etc.

Forehead is important area of life. The high Priest has a golden inscription hanging from his turban which reads "Holy to the Lord", the Antichrist puts a mark on the forehead or on hand which is a poor imitation of God putting a mark on the believers forehead. In the book of Revelation, all believers will behold the Lord with the name of the Lord written on their foreheads. The question we need to answer is what do we display on our foreheads?

After the revival we see happening in Nehemiah 9, now the people are willingly making a covenant with the Lord binding themselves to obey all his commands and calling for curses in case of disobedience. We see the name of Nehemiah first, and rightly so. But we don't find the high priest Eliashib not mentioned, because his family record is not clean. He had given children to be married outside of Jewish faith. We don't see the name of Ezra as well, but his father Seraiah is mentioned which includes Ezra in the list indirectly.

When revival happens, usually it is not from leaders to people but it starts from people. No one pursued them to do what we read in the first few verses. ON the 24th day, they are free like bird to go home and continue with their lives. But, we see them repenting, confessing their sins and their ancestors. They are covered in sackcloth, ashes on their head etc, a genuine repentance. That is revival.

Ezra arrived into Jerusalem 14 years before Nehemiah came. He kept teaching the word faithfully. Now, the people are so charged, they asked for Ezra to bring out the book to read to them.

After the walls were rebuilt and gates set up, it needs constant vigilance and needs to be protected from enemies who might want to infiltrate into Jerusalem. So, Nehemiah appointed Hanani and Hananiah to rule over Jerusalem. The criteria for selection is not family link, but their hearts must fear God!

Now the walls are almost built, just need doors and frames. The enemies don't want to give up. They tried three last schemes against Nehemiah. Nehemiah is a man of vision, he will not be deflected, discouraged,deterred. He is a diplomat who must have steered his way cleverly in the courts of Persian kings.

Until chapter 4, we have seen Nehemiah facing enemies from outside. In chapter 5, we see problems arising from within. It is devastating to see these problems. But Nehemiah consulted with himself. It is more like a man wanting to go against a King whether he is able to defeat one coming against him with ten thousand with just one thousand of his army. Same Greek word is used in the LXX version.

Rebuilding of walls has nearly reached half its original height. Enemies of Jerusalem were alarmed and wanted to discourage Jews from rebuilding its walls. Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, people of Ashdod they all conspired together to attack and disturb the work. Nehemiah responded quite well. He avoided confrontation, but was focussed on the diffusing the tension, by praying and encouraging the Jews to trust in a great God, supplied weapons to them, appointed guard at low level walls, made the security responsibility of families which are all a bold move!

We see Nehemiah at his best in this chapter. He is a man of vision, legendary leadership skills, very high management skills etc. He divides the whole wall into 41 sections. The skills are transferable. We don't see architects, planning guys, civil engineers. It is just the common people, no special skills in buildoing. They were priests, goldsmiths, perfume makers. This chapter inspired a man to go to Bangladesh to construct 10,000 homes after the war there. Can God speak to someone from Nehemiah chpater 3? yes he can!

Jerusalem during Nehemiah's lifetime was having ten gates, perimeter about 1.5 miles or 2.4 km. The temple and the temple mount area was about 36 acres and the total area covered by the walls is about 90 acres. It had to be rebuilt only in few places where ever it was breached. When he had the letter from the King, the tables were turned. What do I mean? A previous Artaxerxes has issued an order to stop rebuilding. Now, he has a letter to override it.

Nearly 100 years before Nehemiah, Daniel served in the courts of Nebuchadnezzar. Now, Nehemiah is cupbearer in the Persian court. These are examples of God's mercy to the heathen kingdoms. An exile serving in the most powerful and influential position is like Jesus Christ humbling himself and coming like a man. He is of priestly background coming as Governor (King) foreshadows ministry of Christ!

Pretribulation rapture is taught by J.N.Darby in the year 1830. Until then this teaching is unheard of. When we study the three parallel passages from the gospels, we notice that Jesus is very clear that we should look for the abomination of the desolation, which will be followed by tribulation. After arriving into Rome, Paul was allowed to rent a house and soldier kept guard while he was chained to the soldier. As Samson killed more people after becoming blind by pulling apart the pillars of temple he was chained to, so also Paul impacted more in chains.

We have much to guess from the beginning of the chapter the legal process for Paul to be handed over to Julius the centurion. Paul rises above all prisoners like Joseph did in the Old Testament. He was taken into the decision making about sailing or wintering in because of his knowledge of the sea. He has become a leader on the ship not a convict chained bound to Rome. This chapter gives us the full testimony of Paul's conversion, call and commission from our Lord Jesus Christ. He was appointed a servant and a witness of Jesus. He will be a witness to what he has known about Jesus and would know in future. That is similar to revelation to St.John. I perceive that revelation is the existential reality of every Christian.

Paul was left in prison by Felix, after 2 years, Felix lost his position but left Paul in prison to please the Jews. Feasts, to a large extent tried to rule fairly. But he feels not competent enough for the job as his understanding of Jewish matters is not good enough. So, he is relying on Agrippa to help him out. The most bizarre thing is that the people who do not have exemplary private lives are trying to judge a man who can claim he lives to please God and people.

St.Paul has gone through two trials so far. But this one is more professional before Felix. Ananias has come down to Caesarea along with other elders and a lawyer by name Turtullus. We are studying the characters involved in this chapter like Felix, Druscilla, Ananias the high priest, St.Paul, Turtullus. Felix the procrastinator has not achieved much in life nor Druscilla. What did Noah feel when he came out of the Ark? The Sanhedrin had two rounds of hearing from Paul. The religious persecution of Jews was beyond comprehension of the commander. He wanted to know the truth by flogging Paul in the previous chapter. He brings him before them the second time. After Paul shouted: "I am a pharisee, son of a pharisee. I am bound the sake of the resurrection of the dead" etc. It divided the crowd which partly helped Paul. But, to save him being torn by the two rival groups, he was taken into the barracks for Paul's safety.

Eyes of Saul, sees Jesus as an imposter, blasphemer, untrustworthy and Gentiles as not equals, destined to hell etc. Eyes of Paul need the scales to fall off. Those eyes have to be transformed and raised with new light in them to see Gentiles as equals, lost from eternal life, in whom image of God has to be restored. To know that God has chosen you, to know His will, to see his glory, hear his voice and to be witnesses of what you heard and seen is to have eyes of Paul.

St.Paul's likes and desires are in synch with the will of God. He desired to go to Jerusalem and other times he wanted to go to Rome. He just didn't want to do things. He was compelled by the spirit to go to Jerusalem. He set his face like his master towards Jerusalem. There were prophecies at Tyre and Caesarea about the impending persecution to the apostle. Prophets wanted to discourage him but Paul was encouraged by the Prophecies. How to navigate in life with True and not so true prophecies!

We must understand the deep experience of encountering God and its impact on people like Moses and Paul. Moses had the experience of seeing the burning bush. He had the experience of being with God to bring the stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments. He goes a second time but this time he had to take two tablets like the ones he broke, only this time it is plain so that the Lord can write on it with his finger.

After the uproar has ceased, Paul left Ephesus and set sail to Macedonia. He later discovered the plot for his life, so changed the plan to go to Jerusalem and went by land to Philippi. We notice that seven individuals went along Paul on this journey to Jerusalem. They were carrying the money pooled by various churches to help the believers in Jerusalem. We have the incidence when Gehaji the servant of Elisha ran and put the staff of Elisha on the face of the lad who died and returned and reported that nothing happened.

Paul was left in Athens. As he went about the city, which was the intellectual capital of the Roman Empire. The city was full of idols, it is said that it was easy find gods rather than men. The emotion of Paul is expressed by the Greek word "paroxysmos " from which our English word paroxysm

The Lord showed that Christians are busy trying to clean up outward appearance but the Lord is interested in the inside of the heart. If the heart is clean, that worship is acceptable to him.

As we have seen on the map, Paul and Silas were forbidden from preaching in Asia. If we notice the seven churches to whom St.John wrote the letters in the book of Revelation are located here. There is no competition in the kingdom of God. Though Paul would preach in Ephesus for many months. Now, being called to preach the gospel in Greece which is part of Europe, they land in Philippi. According to one legend, Luke is from Philippi, he studied medicine there. Here in this city, Paul cast out a spirit of Python from the slave girl who was fortune telling and making money for her owners.

In the closing verses of chapter 15 of Acts, we see Paul and Barnabas quarrelling over John Mark. Barnabas wanted Mark to join them and Paul didn't want Mark because he deserted them during their first missionary journey. They agreed to disagree. We see Paul wanted Mark to help him in his work later. He commended him to a church. Of course, Barnabas' patience bore its fruit. They parted in good terms.

We see Paul and Barnabas at Iconium where there is a Synagogue. You see both Jews and Greek speaking Gentiles who fear the God of Jews. Paul presented the Gospel effectively and boldly. The result is that GREAT number of them believed the Gospel. As usual this divided the congregation and those who did not believe stirred up the crowd and planned to insult Paul and to stone them. Paul's preaching to the Jewish synagogue in Pisidian Antioch. It's very brief, if we stick to the text, it will take about 3 minutes to speak it out. If we follow the theme of Luke of showing Peter's life and Paul's life on equal footing, this chapter is somewhat closing the life of Peter, even though we will see him once more in chapter 15. Luke is showing how the Jews were uniting with the state or the other way and targeting the Christians and persecuting. The gospel goes global in this chapter! Some (people) one decided to share the gospel with Greeks in Antioch. Until now it was shared with Jews only or with those who are sympathetic with Jewish faith. Most interesting thing about this is that there is no angel involved or a Vision from the Holy Spirit. We are stepping into the New Testament mission work, whoever decides to become that "someone" who decides to share the gospel. Many became believers. This expression you see three times. Then, we learn about Barnabas and many became believers. If one is a disciple, they should be sharing Christ!

When Alexander Dowie was a pastor in Sydney a bubonic plague killed many people. More than 40 of his congregation were dead already and three more ready to be buried. He was talking to God and asking is it the same God he reads about in both Old and New Testament who does miracles? Then, the Holy Spirit brought to his heart Acts 10:38. Immediately Dowie saw that Jesus is the healer while Devil is the one who brought sickness. Then, two people came running that he is required by the bed side of a young lady who was dying. He laid hands on her and prayed and immediately she went into a beautiful sleep. The mother of the young girl asked, is she dead. Dowie replied "No". On tapping the sleeping girl, she opened her eyes and apologised for sleeping too long. Fever was gone and completely healed. That's how, healing ministry was discovered by him.

Gospel was spreading very fast, due to persecution it began to go all over Roman Empire, and God used Philip to share the gospel to the Ethiopian eunuch, into Samaria etc. But the church has not got the vision to take the gospel to gentiles. So, the Lord sends an angel to talk to Cornelius and the Holy Spirit communicates to Peter through a trance. The big wall dividing Jews and Gentiles is broken. We will see this story repeated three times, that shows its importance.

This is why Paul could claim absolute authority for his teachings. He
said, “If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note

(Gal. 1:8). He separated his personal opinions from the teaching
of the Lord when speaking about the complex subject of marriage (1 Cor.
7:10, 22). Daniel Fuller says, “The absolute authority that Paul ascribed to his
teaching should not be charged off as the rantings of an eccentric egotist but
should be taken as a sober recognition of the fact that in all his teaching, none
other than Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is speaking.”

The story of Saul continues from 8:3. Saul hates this new faith of Christians with all his heart and soul and wants to demonstrate it with all his strength! Last week we learnt about Philip preaching the Christ in Samaria and the revival broke out there. The church in Jerusalem sent Peter and John to check it out. Philip was being a normal Christian full of the Holy Spirit and signs and miracles were done through him. Even though it is not mentioned Holy Spirit is guiding Philip. In continuation of it, we see an angel instructing Philip to go the the desert road to Gaza. After the martyrdom of Stephen, Saul became more bold, more zealous to obliterate the name of Jesus Christ. It brought a clear separation between the old Jewish religion and the Church. Qualifications of apostles is they were full of wisdom and Holy Spirit. You see this in chapter 2, 4 and 6. When the dispute arose about distribution of food to the widows, apostles asked them to present seven men full of wisdom and the Holy Spirit. They presented Stephen, Philip and five others. Stephen is the first to be mentioned because Luke is going to talk about him at length.
Where was he all This time? He appears like a shooting star, burns bright and disappears quickly. He was not one of those selected by Jesus himself. But no less. He was on par with apostles and Paul.

After the judgement of the Lord on Ananias and Sapphire people were afraid to join the apostles. But they held them in high esteem. Those who are genuine in their faith were being added to the church. The people swing to the other extreme and bring the sick and laid them on the street so that Peter's shadow might fall on them and heal them! The scripture affirms that "all were healed". We continue to learn about Gamaliel being a pharisee yet was respected by the Saducees who were his rivals. Yet he did not see Jesus in good light. He tried to compare with two criminals. He did not share the respect Nicodemus had for Jesus or of Joseph of Arimathea. His scholarship is not unbiased and truth is not the basis of his life. Apostles said, "we have to obey God rather than men". Gamaliel is buried and his memory is also buried and forgotten.

Joseph Barnabas sold his property and brought the money and put it at the feet of Apostle Peter. Ananias and Sapphira
wanted to do the same to get same recognition but wanted to keep back some of the proceeds. Peter confronted Ananias with the truth. When Ananias was exposed, he had a heart attack and fell down dead. Ooops!

v23 Peter and John went back to their own people. That was the group not consisting of 3000 or 5000 people. That is the core group of praying people. That is the centre of power. We might think of White House as a place of power or some capital city of a country. But, that band of praying people for the centre of power. Their unselfish prayer moved the hand of God and the place where they prayed shook, people were filled with the Holy Spirit and they spoke the word of God boldly. What an immediate answer to prayer.

If we read 2 Samuel 23, we see a list of mighty men who were in David's service. How did they become mighty men? When they came to him they were destitutes, in debt and threatened by king Saul. Because of their association with David, they were gradually changed into mighty men. That is what happened to the apostles. They were recognised as men who were with Jesus. That accounted for their smartness, knowledge of scriptures, boldness in facing the Sanhedrin etc.

How did Peter and John heal the crippled man? He said, why are you astonished? As though we have made this man whole by our power or godliness. Acts 2:43 many miracles were done through the hands of the apostles. So, in Acts 3, Luke gives us such an event which was significant and had more impact and consequences. He was born crippled and his family would set him down at the stairway to the temple called 'Beautiful'. Most of the religious leaders were Sadducees who did not believe in resurrection, angels etc. So they wanted to trap Jesus and posed a hypothetical question. Jesus responded saying you neither know the power of God not do you understand scriptures. St.Paul has much to say about resurrection but it all came from his encounter with resurrected Jesus.

In these verses, Peter's explanation of the phenomena of tongues continues. He builds his case by proving that Jesus rose again from the dead. When the people saw the disciples speaking in tongues they concluded they were drunk with sweet wine. Peter perceived what is being said and decided to give a defence about the reality. It was a festival season, people were fasting, praying to celebrate the barley harvest. They would drink mostly with dinner. It was 9am too early to be drunk. So, Peter says, what you are seeing is fulfilment of the prophecy of prophet Joel.

Every word Luke uses in his first chapter is very precious. Jesus being taken up into heaven is mentioned three times in the first chapter (vs 2,9,11). It gives an insight into ending of Jesus life on the earth and beginning of his life in Heaven, it gives a closure to the matter unlike Elijah after being caught up into heaven by a chariot of fire, the men of the school of prophets wanted to search for his body. The disciples are witnesses of his ascension. This is crucial for their faith and joy. They worshipped Jesus who was not present in a physical form to them and were full of joy.

Hosea is a prophet who walked his talk! He loved the wayward woman and had children through her. One of them is names Lo-Ruhama meaning I will not show compassion. Having gone through major confrontation, having pronounced the judgement, now he is pouring out God's love. the Lord's judgement is reversed, now they will receive compassion from Yahweh.
The call to Israel is to return to the Lord! How would one return and what are the blessings that follow such turning back to God!

The word "die" occurs about 300 times in the Bible (NIV). v1 ends saying Ephraim 'died'! How did he die? Because of Baal worship. When anyone moves away from worshipping the true and only God death comes, first spiritual and physical death later.
Jacob or Israel says, I am going to die, but do not bury me here instead take my body to the land of Canaan. Hope of Canaan takes away the fear of death. Likewise, Joseph says, I am going to die. But, the Lord will visit and take you to the promised land. Then, do not forget to carry my bones. That is faith. Which, came to pass after nearly 400 years

If you read Hosea 10 in KJV, you will not find the Lord's name mentioned much. Instead you will find the personal pronouns "He" and "I" but you need to distinguish when it refers to the Lord and when it refers to others in the text. So, what do we infer from it? This chapter deals mainly with Israel's sin.
Israel says "we don't have a king because we did not revere the Lord". When they reject the King, they are rejecting God. They did reject the King of kings and Lord of Lord's Jesus Christ. When he was carrying the cross, he looked at some women who were crying: "don't weep for me, weep for yourselves and your children". The days are coming when "they will say to the mountains, "Cover us!" and to the hills, "Fall on us!"" It is found again in Rev 6:16. This is an event which is yet to happen!

Ephraim is used 6 times and Israel is used 3 times in this chapter. Same way the name of God, the Lord is used 5 times and God is used 4 times. A simple addition gives us the number 9 for each of Ephraim and the Lord. That is the first theme "the relationship between the Lord and Israel"!
Three times the words " the house of the Lord " is used in vs 4,6,15. When they reject the Lord, they also reject his prophets. Prophets are Prophets are rejected, ill-treated, insulted, sometimes killed as well. He uses pictures to describe the condition of Israel: grapes in desert, first ripe figs, glory flying away like a bird and blight afflicting a crop etc.

Prophet Hosea continues his brilliant barrage of words and pictures to lift up the sins of Israel. Sin is forming a barrier for God to heal them. They are like burning oven with adultery, idolatry, etc. His use of powerful similes and metaphors makes it very colourful. v8 Ephraim is a flat cake not turned over, v11 Ephraim is like a dove, easily deceived and senseless, I will throw a net and catch them as a prepared hunter, lastly in v16 he says they are like a faulty bow. The Lord is bringing a charge against the Israelites: no faithfulness,
no love and no knowledge of God! How many of us would be able to talk about who our God is if someone from another faith would ask us? How many minutes would we last talking about Him. Hosea is mentioned as a minor prophet because of the length of his prophecy. His ministry stretched for over 60 years like that of Isaiah, Amos and Micah. His life is a message. He was asked by the Lord to marry a prostitute. Some think it happened only in his mind meaning in his visions but not in life. But many commentators feel that he in deed married Gomor (meaning perfect ) who probably was from such a background. However, 1:3 says she bore him a son. He was the father of Jezreel. Nebuchadnezzar invaded Judah three times: 605 BC, 597 BC and 587 BC. He had taken captives from his invasion in 605 and Daniel and his friends were part of it. He wanted to recruit people from among the captives to serve in his kingdom.
Their geographical location changed. Their names were changed. Probably their dressing is changed. Re-education began. Culture was being remodelled. Their food and drink was to change. Daniel was wise. He chose his battle. He did not mind all those changes. When it came to food and drink that defiles them, he took a stand. We need Daniel's wisdom to take a stand when matters of holiness, fearing and worshipping the Lord and obedience to Him were being challenged, We should take a stand!

There are two Hebrew words to express the meaning of "Blessing": Asher or Ashreka and Barak. In verse 1 and 2 we see the Hebrew words used are Asher and Ashreka. These are used for men and by men. When someone is blessed he becomes an object of envy. When God blesses man, the word used is Barak as in v4. also, the word Barak is used as an expression of praise to the Lord! King David has gone through emotional hurts several times in his life. One of those is talked about in 1Sam25. He and his men had kept watch over the large herds and flocks of Nabal. When it was time for shearing, David sent his men to ask for a return of favour while Nabal was rejoicing over his multiplied blessing. Nabal insulted David's men. Balaam was angry with his donkey for not walking straight until his eyes were opened to see the angel of God standing with a drawn sword. In this scripture passage we see three kinds of people. Natural man, Spiritual man and Spiritual man not growing but remaining a child still feeding on milk not solid food.I have demonstrated this with three plastic water bottles. one with lid closed represents natural man, without salvation. Even though the rain of God's mercy, grace, love is falling all around nothing gets inside since the lid is on. The second, the lid is open, some water may get in but doesn't fill the bottle quickly as the opening is narrow. The third is a bottle that you take a knife and chop of the top part, making the mouth very wide. This gets filled quickly.

Saul and David were anointed by Prophet Samuel! But we see two different outcomes. One lasted just one life time and the other lasted into Eternity. On the surface of it, it is not clear. Saul reigned for 42 years and David only 40 years. Saul was self centred and David God centred. Saul had very dramatic experiences with the Holy Spirit. David not so dramatic but he moved in revelation, prophesied about Jesus Christ!

After the Pentecost as the disciples Peter and John were walking to the temple for prayer, they saw a man crippled from birth sitting at the Beautiful Gate to receive alms. One of them could have told the other, look straight and don't make an eye contact as there is that guy sitting there. When he expected to receive alms from them, Peter said those oft repeated golden words, "silver or gold have I none, but such as I have I give thee, In the Name of Jesus Christ rise up and walk"! What if they said our Lord is not here anymore. What can we do now? Some of us have received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. But we are stuck at the gate called Beautiful, ironically.

We see four characters in this parable of the prodigal son. The strong and reliable character is of the Father. The Lord guided me to this parable for resolving conflict. Then, I said to the Lord, "How do I apply this parable to conflict in marriage? or between parents in children etc". The Lord said, "unhinge the characters and look at them as paradigms". As long as we are clear about what the characteristics are of Father, Elder Son and Younger Son, you can take them to help solve the conflict. If the conflict is between father and a son in a family and if the father has traits of Younger son and the son has the traits of the father, then the son plays the role of the Father in the parable. The father has to repent and come to the son. I hope it is not confusing!

In the garden of Eden, they had many choices that are good except one. In the modern days we have many choices which are wrong except one in many cases! In the case of Manoah and his wife, they looked to God for solution of sterility and they have done well. Sterility is a limitation on that family. When we surrender our limitations the Lord is able to bless it in many unlimited ways for His glory. They wanted instructions on how to raise the promised son and the Lord was over indulgent and sent the angel twice. The mother had to consecrate herself for the sake of special child. Can we get a child with supernatural purpose if we pray and consecrate ourselves?

Jesus taught how to worship God not a priest, not to a prophet, not to a king, not to a Jew, but to a simple woman came to quench her thirst at the well. Jesus challenged Philip to feed the crowds. Philip started to count the cost and they did not have the money for it nor it will be easy to buy bread in such large quantity in such a short time. But Jesus knew what he wanted to do. Often, His challenge usually is to test our understanding of Himself and how much we trust Jesus. Before the bread is multiplied it has to be broken. That is the key to understanding the power of Resurrection. As we appropriate the power of Resurrection we will begin to multiply. It is impossible to remain sterile if His power is residing in us.

Judas Iscariot placed a value of 30 silver coins. The same man valued the very expensive Spikenard Ointment at 300 denarii. The lords of Philistines each promised to give 1100 silver coins if they get to know the real secret to Samson's strength altogether 5,500 silver coins. Joseph was sold for 20 silver coins. In more than 1000 years not much inflation just an increase of 10 silver coins. If we value at 30 silver coins a price of a slave no wonder we will end up selling him. If Jesus Christ is the Lord who died to redeem our soul, to give eternal life, to restore the image of God in us, to restore the dominion we have lost in Adam, How then should we worship Him. Even Satan placed a higher value, by promising all the kingdoms and their glory. But he cannot give himself to God. We can do better than the Devil. Let us give ourselves to Jesus Christ and worship Him worthily.

Joel has denounced the sins of Judah and explained that the locusts are a judgement of God on them. Now, even though the Lord used other nations to punish Judah, He is paying back judgement to them for not treating His people, His land without any mercy and treating them like chattels. He is calling nations to assemble so that he can judge them. It is similar to battle of Armageddon in Revelation and the battle described in Ezekiel 38 and 39.

Blood and fire and billows of smoke v30 of Joel chapter 2: these words sound more like war, killing etc. The word billows is translated pillar, column etc. The original Hebrew word is "timarah". The root word is "tomer" which means date palm tree. The tree trunk appears like a pillar, or a column with leaves spread out and it resembles the mushroom. The picture is pretty close to mushroom cloud from a volcanic eruption or aftermath of a nuclear explosion.

Jesus is the Lord of revival! The Apostle Peter explained what the people were witnessing as something which was foretold by Joel. Jesus himself says in the gospel of John chapter 14 that "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever." This is not the only time Jesus asked and Pentecost happened! Every time there is a revival he is looking for those people who love Him and obey Him so that he can ask the Father to pour out the Spirit. In the book of Ezekiel chapter 9, an angel was asked to mark on forehead those who would be spared from the judgement! In Hebrew the word mark is actually an alphabet "tau" which in old script represented by cross. Those who had the cross were exempted from the judgement. In the book of Revelation those who were marked by God were escaping the sting of locust which was like the sting of a scorpion which tormented for 6 months. If we believe in Jesus we will be marked by the angel so that we will escape the final judgement!

Nahum 1:1 uses two words "burden" and "vision". In Hebrew "mass" and "chaza".
