One of my favourite songs to cover! by Bruce Cockburn. Great song and lyrics especially. Hope you enjoy it.
"Lovers In A Dangerous Time"
Don't the hours grow shorter as the days go by?
You never get to stop and open your eyes
One day you're waiting for the sky to fall
The next you're dazzled by the beauty of it all
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
These fragile bodies of touch and taste
This vibrant skin, this hair like lace
Spirits open to the thrust of grace
Never a breath you can afford to waste
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Sometimes you're made to feel as if your love's a crime
Nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight
Got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time

This video is nothing impressive, but it means a lot to me because I threw it together in a tough time with what I had.
Beach is Santa Monica/Venice Beach from a trip I ended up on. Fun to share.
Hope you enjoy the song, lyrics, and beach xx

Such a great song. I recorded a really slow, mellow vibe of it a few years ago for Steemit.
Glad to share it now on 3speak. Hope you enjoy!

I am currently finishing up a video for this song with a Brazilian filmmaker which I am looking forward to sharing.
I hope you enjoy it as is in the meantime.
Its takeoff point was T.S. Eliot's poem "The Hollow Men" and is about the burning world we are in.
It's turned out to be evergreen these last couple of years.
Lyrics:
“Eliot”
Is this the way the world ends:
With a whimper, not a bang?
Mediocre villains;
Nonchalant decay?
Is this the generation
That mocks at Noah’s ark?
Dancing while it’s raining,
Then drowning in the dark?
It’s funny how it feels like
The world is turning fine;
Balanced on its axis,
Keeping perfect time.
Is this the generation
Where the cosmos start to shift?
And all we do is shrug and sigh
While falling off that cliff?
Eliot, how’d you know then
That we’d end up just like this?
Laughing while the world burns,
Betraying those we kiss?
Is this the generation
Where we see just what we are?
In a faithless, fallen world
Will we fight or join the ranks of fallen stars?

Hope you enjoy! Just an old one from a little while back I thought I'd post to 3speak.
Getting ready in red velvet and happy to be alive and celebrating.
Hope wherever you are, you are finding peace, hope, and joy!

A love song for men.
I have very rarely and only abstractly written love songs - a rule I acquired after realizing it was so odd that they could be so hollow 2 years down when the relationship had unraveled as is the norm for your average well-known love song; I always found it utterly negating—so much thin emotion and so little lasting—and resolved not to add my affective clanging to the cacophony.
In the absence of the particular, the natural progression is, of course, for the whole gender—half the world. I have quite a set at this point.
So many songs, so little time or plan for most of them. Shouldn’t die with them hidden away on a hard drive, I often think.
So I thought I’d share this one I wrote recently—an imperfect iPhone demo.
Has a bit of a Rosie Thomas vibe which I can’t complain about.
“Diamond Coming Clear”
Come home, o, boy
To the innocence of youth
Don’t heed the lies
That only mar the truth
Don’t run away
From the man you are, my dear
Don’t give up now
You’re a diamond coming clear
You’re a diamond coming clear
The darkness spoke
Into the centre of your heart
Let light come now
Though it rips you right apart
Don’t run away
Though your battle rages here
Don’t abdicate
You’re a diamond coming clear
I see a diamond coming clear
Come home, o, boy
You are not just what you’ve done
There’s laughter here
And a thousand rising suns
Don’t run away
Though it’s failure that you fear
Fight valiantly
For the diamond coming clear
I see a diamond coming clear
Oh, you’re a diamond coming clear

Such a great song by the ever-wonderful Joni Mitchell.
She and I share a hometown in Saskatchewan, Canada.
Forthcoming album concerning her a little in 2022 :)
Enjoy!

"Both Sides Now"
Rows and floes of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way
But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
Well something's lost, but something's gained
In living every day
I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
I've looked at life from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all

I've been singing this song since I was 16 or so - Chantal Kreviazuk-inspired version.
I always loved it. I find it so much more precious even now.
Lyrics below.
Kay
"Leaving On A Jet Plane"
All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go
I'm standing here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say good-bye
But the dawn is breaking, it's early morn
The taxi's waiting He's blowing his horn
Already I'm so lonesome I could die
So kiss me and smile for me, tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go
There's so many times I've let you down
So many times I've played around
I tell you now they don't mean a thing
Every place I go I'll think of you
Every song I sing I'll sing for you
When I come back, I'll bring your wedding ring
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go
Now the time has come to leave you
One more time let me kiss you
Then close your eyes, I'll be on my way
Dream about the days to come when I won't have to leave alone
About the times I won't have to say
Kiss me and smile for me, tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go
I'm leaving on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

I thought many of you would be as haunted by this gorgeous melody as I was.
The "Ave Maria" (Gregorian chant).

I loved singing this and hope you enjoy listening, too.
Lyrics below!
Kay
Many nights we've prayed
With no proof anyone could hear
In our hearts a hopeful song
We barely understood
Now we are not afraid
Although we know there's much to fear
We were moving mountains
Long before we knew we could
There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
It's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve
When you believe
Somehow you will
You will when you believe
In this time of fear
When prayer so often proves in vain
Hope seemed like the summer birds
Too swiftly flown away
Yet now I'm standing here
My heart's so full I can't explain
Seeking faith and speaking words
I never thought I'd say
There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
It's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve
When you believe
Somehow you will
You will when you believe
They don't always happen when you ask
And it's easy to give in to your fear
But when you're blinded by your pain
Can't see your way safe through the rain
Thought of a still resilient voice
Says love is very near
There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
It's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve
When you believe
Somehow you will
Now you will
You will when you believe
You will when you believe
Just believe
Gotta believe
You will when you believe

One of my favourite Joni songs. Christmas-ish. Mostly Canadian melancholic.
An old open mic entry from when it was still over at Steemit (as you'll hear).
I just announced that I am heading into the studio out here in LA to produce a Joni album featuring a couple of covers as well as originals of mine about our common home in Saskatchewan, Canada.
I'm going to be writing a book about some of it as well and releasing it as a package some time in the new year.
Not sure if this song will make the album cut but wanted to share it here with the Hive world.
Lyrics below of a great song.
Kay
"River"
It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on
But it don't snow here
It stays pretty green
I'm going to make a lot of money
Then I'm going to quit this crazy scene
I wish I had a river I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Whoa I wish I had a river I could skate away on
I made my baby cry
He tried hard to help me
You know, he put me at ease
And he loved me so naughty
Made me weak in the knees
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on
I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish and I'm sad
Now I've gone and lost the best baby
That I ever had
Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I made my baby say goodbye
It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
Singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river I could skate away on

A lullaby for this week's open mic. This is an original song of mine based on the simplechildhood prayers some of us grew up with.
Angel of God, my guardian, dear
To whom God's love commits me here
Ever this night be at my side
To ight, to guard, to rule, and guide
Angel, Angel
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I should die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul to take
Angel, Angel

Here is an original song of mine off an older album. I share monthly art episodes with my exclusive members at https://www.kayclarity.art and this is one of the components from this month's episode.
It's basically all a mix of beauty, art, music, images, video, poems. Today I included a classic short story from the public domain.
I hope you enjoy this song. It has a vague roote of inspiration in Tracy Chapman's "At This Point in My Life" which always stayed deeply with me.
Kay
Please don't ever leave me, 'cause I cannot walk alone
Please don't ever leave me, 'cause I cannot walk alone
My heart will be a stone again, my heart will be a stone
Please don't ever leave me, 'cause I cannot walk alone
I'll say it quiet but I'll say it clear:
It's been a long, long road for me
With many thorns, not many roses
And I'm broken as can be
Please don't ever leave me, 'cause I cannot walk alone
Please don't ever leave me, 'cause I cannot walk alone
My heart will be a stone again, my heart will be a stone
Please don't ever leave me, 'cause I cannot walk alone
There's much to say but far too much
So I'll keep it simple here
I've broken down and I've barely built
And I'm crippled by my fears
But if you can see through the years
Of my muddy, messy tries
I promise I will give to you
All the hidden good inside
Please don't ever leave me, 'cause I cannot walk alone
Please don't ever leave me, 'cause I cannot walk alone
My heart will be a stone again, my hear will be a stone
Please don't ever leave me, 'cause I cannot walk alone
Love cannot be just for saints
It seeks the ones who bleed
And I am one among the small
Who will always suffer need
Please don't ever leave me, 'cause I cannot walk alone
Please don't ever leave me, 'cause I cannot walk alone
My heart will be a stone again, my heart will be a stone
Please don't ever leave me, 'cause I cannot walk alone
My heart will be a stone again, my heart will be a stone
Please don't ever leave me, 'cause I cannot walk alone
