God Only Knows: Recent Episodes

Ericka Clay

Hey, I’m Ericka.

I’m a published author and indie publisher. I’m also a former atheist turned believer.

I've struggled with depression, anxiety, and body dysmorphia (not to mention obsessive-compulsive thoughts) all my life. With the help of my husband and church group (and most of all Jesus), I've been slowly taking the bricks out of my backpack, and I'm starting to walk upright again.

I thought starting my blog as a podcast might be helpful to those who also deal with some of these things, especially fellow believers. I think we're often made to feel like we're not holy enough if we struggle with stuff, but it's through our struggles that God makes us holy.

These posts are essentially my online memoir, a place where I bring you my past experiences, my hardest memories, and let God guide me as I watch Him redeem the parts of me I’ve savagely broken.

Above all, I pray it’s a blessing to you.

Thanks for listening. You can find out more about me at erickaclay.com.

So what is God Only Knows? It’s my online memoir and podcast. I started it October 2022 as a way to chronicle my mental health and faith journey. Little did I know how much “stuff” would come to the surface. God’s redeeming capabilities surpass no other’s which is evident in my life. I went from […]

I live inside the secret world of my father’s ambition. Maybe it isn’t so secret. How to describe Mel? I don’t know. I suppose if being a child meant my mother being the sun, then Mel was the moon. There was something about him that lived in me too. Perhaps, our drive. Our want to […]

There’s always the checkbox. It asks me if I’m Caucasian, and I say yes. And then it asks me if I’m of Hispanic descent. I sometimes say yes. And sometimes say no. I am. So I’m a liar but only sometimes. I’m fair-skinned. No, that’s an understatement. I’m paper-thin white, a lovely shade you don’t […]

Poor Moses. He tells those people in the desert, the Israelites, so many times about the God who loves them and won’t leave them. And how quickly their hearts are willing to leave that God. Or Paul who tells us to renew our minds constantly. That we are saved but we’re also in the process […]

I once caught an episode of the Today show in college. They had on Jamie Lynn Sigler who played on the Sopranos. I wasn’t really paying attention because I never watched her show, but she wasn’t there to talk about that. She was there to talk about her exercise bulimia. It was like a light […]

I was raised in a uniform, which is probably why real clothes scare me. It was like I turned eighteen and everyone was all like “okay, go find clothes to wear,” and I was like “you mean this?” indicating a gray, stained t-shirt I found on the side of the road next to a dead […]

I think the hardest thing ever is realizing you’re not so great. That might not be hard for some people. I get that we’re all different. We’ve all gone through so many different things, and maybe greatness has never been part of your vocabulary. It has been mine. When I was young—I’m talking roughly ten […]
