In this episode of A Word for Your Soul, we explore Romans 2:29 and what it truly means to be a follower of Christ. It's not about religion, rituals, or checking off spiritual boxes—it's about heart transformation through the Holy Spirit. Drawing from Scripture and biblical context, this episode breaks down the difference between external obedience and internal surrender, reminding believers that God is after authenticity, not performance.
Perfect for anyone seeking deeper spiritual growth, biblical clarity, and a reminder that real faith is rooted in a changed heart, not religious perfection.
Key Themes & Scripture
1.Heart Transformation Over Legalism
True Christianity isn’t about religious rituals or checking spiritual boxes—it’s about a changed heart through the Holy Spirit.
2.Internal Change vs. External Compliance
God desires inner transformation, not just outward obedience. He looks at the condition of the heart, not just behavior.
3.Holy Spirit as the Change Agent
Only the Holy Spirit can truly transform a heart and align it with God’s will.
Maturity in Christ comes with greater responsibility and discipline. Growth is a process, and God’s grace is patient, but He also calls us higher as we grow.
Obedience flows from a heart that genuinely loves and wants to follow God—not from a desire for approval or to appear righteous.
What we do in private and the motives of our hearts matter just as much—if not more—than public displays of faith.
Listening to God’s Word isn’t enough—we must let it shape our lives and actions.
He wants genuine relationship, intimacy, and surrender—not religious performance.
Scriptures Mentioned
“...a true Jew [Christian] is one whose heart is right with God... a change of heart produced by the Spirit... seeks praise from God, not people.”

“They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts...”
“God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life.”
“We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ...”
“Don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline... the Lord disciplines those He loves...”
“For whom the Lord loves He corrects...”
“...let your good deeds shine... so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father.”
“...the Lord your God will circumcise your heart... to love the Lord your God...”

In this episode I explore the significance of true repentance, which requires us to go beyond words and demonstrate new behaviors that reflect a genuine change of heart. Being in the presence of God showed me how true repentance goes beyond feelings of sorrow and requires deliberate choices to abandon old ways. Don't forget to like, share, and leave your thoughts in the comments section below. Let us embark on this transformative journey together
Praying that we will trust in the Almighty, El Shaddai, who is able and willing to heal us from worry and anxiousness. As you join in prayer, invite the Holy Spirit to intercede on your behalf. Let go of your cares and worries, casting them upon the Lord. Trust that He will meet your basic needs and guard your heart against anxiety. Choose to be still and seek His guidance, for in His presence, worries fade away.
It is essential to remain sober-minded and watchful as the devil is always looking for an opportunity to influence our minds. The Bible does not mention not to do specific things, but it does warn us against being inebriated and influenced by the devil. Our mind is a powerful tool, and whatever has our mind can infiltrate or invade our life. Smoking marijuana was a stronghold that was eventually broken and here’s my testimony.
In this episode, the topic is "The In Between," which refers to the space between your old self and the manifestation of the new version of you. The Bible verse Hebrews 12:2 is referenced to highlight the importance of keeping our eyes on Jesus during this transitional period. Each person's in-between looks different based on their experiences, including joys, traumas, afflictions, and challenges. Pernessa shares her own in-between, which has taught her about Jehovah Jireh and the importance of knowing Jesus intimately. Like Jesus, who was situated between the extremes of the cross and the joy awaiting him, we are situated between our old selves and the new versions of ourselves that are yet to be manifested. The in-between phase is necessary for our personal resurrection and will ultimately lead to the greater works that God has planned for us. I hope this episode encourages listeners to focus on the bigger picture of what God has planned for us and to endure the personal cross in the in-between.
It is truly amazing to experience the transformation and freedom that comes from intimately allowing the Lord in those areas where we are incapable of fulfilling on our own. I have learned that having a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus and our Father is crucial, as they desire to heal and set us free. Under the old covenant, we were unable to enter into the presence of the Lord like we can now, and we were not able to have an intimate personal relationship with God our Father until Jesus came. In this episode I just want to encourage you to get personable because the God we serve is a personable God.
Having a strong relationship with God our father is important, but it all starts with having a relationship with Jesus Christ. Many people may view Jesus as an unnecessary middleman, but in truth, He is the gatekeeper who allows us to have direct access to our Heavenly Father. Without Jesus, we cannot have an intimate relationship with God. Rejecting the knowledge of Jesus can lead to destructive behaviors, such as low self-esteem and harmful actions towards loved ones. However, seeking Jesus and having a genuine desire to know Him can lead to intimate encounters and a greater understanding of God and ourselves. Through Jesus, we can gain clarity, wisdom, understanding, and revelation about the Father and His kingdom. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the light, and seeking Him for ourselves is the key to a fulfilling relationship with God.
In this episode, the anchor scripture is Psalm 139, which reveals how deeply and intimately God knows and loves us. With so many identity issues and social media comparisons, it can be easy to feel inadequate. However, verse one reminds us that God knows us better than we know ourselves. He understands our thoughts, comprehends our path, and is acquainted with all our ways. Verse 13 tells us that God formed our inward parts and covered us in our mother's womb. We are fearfully and wonderfully made, and all the days of our lives are fashioned for us in God's book. He knows our thoughts intimately, and there is no hiding from Him. When we wake, we are still with Him. Take time to sit in stillness, read, and digest Psalm 139, and be encouraged by how much God loves and knows you.
Trials and tribulations are the challenges we face in life to test our strength and fortitude. On today’s episode Pernessa delves into James 1:2-3 in the New Living Translation. She talks about how endurance refers to the ability to endure difficult situations without giving up. And also explores the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the book of Daniel highlighting the importance of how we respond to trials and tribulations.
Feeling disconnected from God can be a difficult and overwhelming experience. On this episode, Pernessa talks about life’s stressors, such as going back to work after having a baby, and how that consumed her emotionally and physically. It can be easy to turn to social media or other distractions instead of spending intimate time with God. However, as John 15:1-5 reminds us, remaining in God and allowing him to prune and purify us is essential for growth and peace in our lives. When we are filled with the word of God and spend time in intimate conversation with him, we can find peace even in the midst of trials and tribulations. It is important to recognize when we are feeling disconnected and actively seek to reconnect with God through prayer and reading the word

In this Episode, Pernessa talks about how Obedience to God is not simply a list of rules to follow, but rather a path to living a blessed life and becoming a blessing to others. She talks about Deuteronomy 11:26-28 and how it teaches that when we obey God's commandments, we open ourselves up to receiving blessings in return.Obedience is not a prerequisite for God's love. However, the Bible makes it clear that God's love is unconditional and not based on our actions. God's love is not dependent on our obedience but on His grace.

In this episode, Pernessa talks about the ups and downs of life, and how we may find ourselves having faith in one season and struggling with it in another. She compares having faith in her single Christian life vs married Christian life. As single Christians, we may face unique challenges in maintaining our faith and on the other hand married Christian women can also experience the test of faith, as they navigate the demands and joys of marriage and family life. Regardless of our relationship status, the faith described in Hebrews 11:1-6 is one that involves trusting in God's promises and stepping out in obedience, even when we cannot see the full picture. "
In this premiere episode, Pernessa talks about how wanting more of God in her life, led to A Word for Your Soul podcast. She began desiring a deeper connection with God that went past church on a Sunday. Daily connection with God led to a new understanding that she needed God to speak to her emotions, will power and thoughts.
