It’s time to reconnect with your true self, set your own terms for success, and make the changes you desire, with compassion and intentionality.

Whether it’s about finding your voice, redefining your career, or simply making space for yourself, this episode will guide you in taking those first steps. Ready to start your own journey? Let’s do this together.

Today’s episode is about a profound realization I had on the journey to happiness.

Often, we're told to practice gratitude to feel joy, especially when our lives seem great on paper—good job, family, stability.

Yet, despite all these blessings, many still feel stressed, exhausted, and unfulfilled.

It's like having appendicitis; you can't enjoy a healthy body if you're in pain.

The same goes for life. It's not just about achievements; it's about having the mental and emotional space to appreciate them.

We need to address our inner turmoil, the 'infections,' to truly enjoy life.

Let’s explore this deeper, so we can find peace and happiness from a place of self-love and compassion, not just gratitude alone.

Today's episode tackles a common struggle many face: setting and maintaining boundaries.

Using fictional examples, we explore scenarios where boundaries are tested and compromised.

Joann, a work-from-home mom, sets clear boundaries with her children, only to find them ignored when her daughter interrupts her work.

Similarly, Lisa faces boundary challenges at work when her boss disregards her request not to take on new clients.

We delve into the three crucial components of effective boundaries: clear definition, recognition of boundary violations, and predetermined actions.

We must understand that we must enforce boundaries, even when others push back. Building resilience to tolerate discomfort is key to upholding boundaries without caving to external pressure.

In today's episode, I want to revisit a familiar topic but with a fresh perspective.

I stumbled upon a young musician named Ren, whose song "Hi Ren" struck a chord with me (please go look him up).

Watching the accompanying video reinforced the importance of acknowledging the various parts within ourselves.

Whether it's through Internal Family Systems therapy or other self-exploration methods, recognizing these internal components has been transformative for me and my clients.

We often identify with unhelpful inner voices, believing them to be our entire selves.

However, every part within us serves a purpose, aiming to protect us in its unique way.

Instead of trying to change these parts, we can learn to connect with them and assign leadership roles to more suitable aspects of ourselves.

This journey of self-discovery allows us to embrace all our parts, finding harmony between shadow and light.

I've been reflecting a lot on the blue pill / red pill concept from The Matrix.

You know, that choice between staying in a comfortable illusion or facing the truth, even if it's uncomfortable.

Today, I want to share a personal story with you. Surprisingly, I found myself in a church recently, attending a mass at my son's school. Now, if you know me, you'd be surprised because I'm not a religious person. I consider myself more spiritual, with unconventional beliefs that go beyond traditional religions. It's unexpected for those close to my husband and me to know that we send our kids to Catholic schools. But there's a reason behind it, a fortunate twist of fate.

While I was raised Catholic, my family wasn't deeply involved in the church. I went through the rituals of baptism and first communion but decided not to take the sacrament of confirmation. As I grew older, my scientific mind and the negative aspects of organized religion pushed me further away from spirituality.

However, sending our kids to Catholic school has challenged my perspectives on religion and spirituality. It's been an intriguing journey that constantly pushes me to reconsider my beliefs. Sometimes, I wish I could approach it more lightly, viewing it as a mere set of practices. But that's not the path I've chosen for this lifetime.

Today, I want to share a reflection on love. Spirituality allows me to experience incredible emotions, feel connected to all beings, and appreciate the beauty of creation. In my relationship with the Catholic Church, I realized that I had thrown out the baby with the bathwater. Attending the mass with my family brought forth overwhelming love and joy. It made me realize that we often close ourselves off to the love, abundance, and beauty available to us.

Just like my experience with nature during the pandemic, where I initially felt disconnected in my urban surroundings, I learned to open my heart and embrace the nature that was already present. Similarly, I invite you to consider where you might be blocking yourself from joy, love, and abundance due to broad, high-level decisions or unquestioned beliefs.

Take a moment to reflect on your spirituality, the love available to you, the appreciation and support from those around you, the abundance within reach, and the opportunities that may be waiting for you. Can you open your heart to receive what's there for you? I sincerely hope you will.

This week has been challenging for me.

I've been feeling off and not quite like myself. I've noticed that in the mornings, I've been feeling anxious and rushed, even when I'm not running late.

This has affected my interactions with my kids, making me more irritable and short-tempered with them. Even during lunch with my husband, I've been impatient and wanting him to finish quickly.

Negative thoughts have been more prevalent, making me approach my son more sternly, leading to arguments.

My driving, which is usually enjoyable, has become more stressful.

However, I've learned to give myself compassion, name my emotions, and acknowledge the facts to treat myself better and work through these feelings.

I know the lessons I learned will resonate with you too... come listen in.

How do you treat yourself when things don't go according to plan? What is your internal dialogue like? Do you have an inner critic that's constantly telling you you're not good enough or that you can't have what you want?

It's easy to fall into the trap of believing negative thoughts about ourselves, especially when others are saying hurtful things or questioning our integrity. But it's important to remember that we are the only ones who truly know who we are, and we shouldn't let others define us.

Loving ourselves unconditionally can be difficult, especially when it feels like others don't love or accept us. But it's in those moments when we need to show ourselves the most love and kindness. Love is not just a feeling, but also an action that we can take to show ourselves that we are worthy of love and acceptance, no matter what anyone else thinks.

Understanding how the nervous system works in general, and getting to know YOUR nervous system and how it has adapted throughout your life, how your PERSONAL Nervous System’s responses of fight, flight, freeze, and fawn, are calibrated, is probably the most important thing you can do to support yourself in your day to day, and also to move towards any goal.

The reason this is SO important is that your Nervous System determines how you react and experience your life, even before you’re able to consciously think helpful thoughts and potentially reframe a challenging situation.

I was sitting on the couch in the living room, and my kids were there with me, we were all cozy with our blankets, and on the screen… one of the Minions movies.

I had decided that I wanted to spend more time with the kids. I really wanted to be more present in their day-to-day lives. Especially because over the pandemic, and since I work from home, they had gotten used to me being NI the house, but not being really THERE for them… I could see how that was confusing and frustrating to them… I was there so close physically, but I wasn’t available to them. And I wanted that to change, I really wanted to “spend more time together” and be more present with them.

If you’ve ever been in a similar position, maybe you too have decided to make this a priority and to make time for it. Which is not always easy, but we do it because it’s important.

The kids were really into it, they were loving it! Do you know how kids can be so focused sometimes when what they’re watching interests them?

At one point, they both let out a big laugh and looked at me, kind of like when you want to share the funny moment… and I hadn’t even caught it. Under my blanket, I had unlocked my phone, and I was ordering groceries online. Ok, ok, to be honest… I may have been scrolling on IG...

In this episode, I explain the framework that has been a gamechanger for my clients and for myself.

Some ways in which my life has changed, and yours could too:

  • It’s given me a deeper respect and even reverence for this body, which now is way harder for me to criticize and judge harshly in any way. It makes me be grateful for this human body that partners with me, and it makes me want to take care of it, and show more respect.
  • It makes me more patient and compassionate when I notice patterns of thinking or behavior that this human has automated over the years, which have served me in some ways. And if I want to change them now, that’s all fine and dandy, but that doesn’t justify or give me permission today to be a jerk to the human that I was before in the past, whether the past is 5 years, 20 years, or 5 minutes ago
  • It makes me really curious, and it makes me really want to know myself as a human better. What this human likes and doesn’t like, what comes easy to her, and hard, what she thrives at, what shuts her off. It makes it more accessible to be gentle and kind to myself.
  • It makes it easier to be kind when teaching myself something new, whether a new skill, behavior, or new way of thinking.
  • It makes my experiences of this human life more fun. It makes me want to be more present in it.
  • It makes me want to get more in touch with emotions, I want to really feel.

With this guided meditation you will be able to process any uncomfortable feeling that you may experience, without stuffing it down or ignoring it.

The more you practice this simple exercise, the easier it gets.

You'll find that you get relief just from doing the meditation which will make it easier to not use your old and well-practiced coping mechanisms that you may be trying to rewire (like overeating, over-drinking, overworking, blaming,  etc.)

And not only that, expanding your capacity to hold emotions will increase your resilience so your capacity to experience unpleasant emotions and not experience damage from them will increase. When your container is bigger, you can also hold more pleasant emotions, so next time something really amazing happens and you feel super happy about it, you won't start poking holes, discounting it, or waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Emotions are a real superpower when we develop the skill to really feel them instead of avoiding them!

Everything you want in life, everything you do is because you’re either chasing a pleasant feeling or running away from an unpleasant one.

We don't really want things for the sake of having the things, not even experiences. We chase the feeling that we think is going to be triggered in us as a reaction to having the thing or living the experience.

So, if you’re always chasing a feeling, if you want to feel better or less bad, you'd better practice feeling how you want to feel in advance, because if you risk actually creating a ton of disappointment.

How you use your time determines the quality of your life.

I believe that you chose to come here and if you spend your time unintentionally distracting yourself with TV, food, and social media, you are not honoring yourself, or the decision that your higher self made coming here.

When you are intentional about the way you use your time, It shows you that you’re way more in control of your life, than you might think you are… and that is everything, my friend. So many clients that I have the honor to coach have some area in their life where they don’t feel empowered and feel like they are at the effect of a circumstance or person.

Listen in if you know you need to be more intentional but don't know where to start.

It’s important to have some notion of what a life well lived is to YOU, because the answer will be very personal.

Knowing what that looks like for you, will help you make decisions in the present to make sure you’re aligned with that.

Even if you're not aware of it, it's likely you've been learning to push down your wishes and desires since a very early age.

Either because they wanted to spare us from pain if we didn't get what we wanted, or because of the scarcity of thinking that there isn't enough for everyone to get what they want, or because you associated wanting "too much" with negative personality traits... it's likely that you trained yourself out of knowing and owning that you want what you want.

Some of my clients have a hard time even answering the question "what do you want?" because they have tuned it out so much that they don't know anymore and it feels like a foreign concept.
