This week’s Flashback Series Episode was one I was very excited about for the initial interview. I had been a fan of Mane Label Hair Co, and was (and still am) a frequent user of the Sway, the heatless hair curling wrap. I wanted to invite one of the co-owners, Misty Allmandinger, on the show because I love how amazing the product is, and I wanted to hear and share Misty’s story. Mane Label (Misty’s company) has been a sponsor of the podcast and a great support as well. I loved her interview and story, and can’t wait for the new listeners to hear it as well!

Recap from the original show notes:
Has anyone ever come up to you with a business idea and asked if you’d help run it? If they did, would you do it? I live with an entrepreneur who has a new business idea every 5 minutes. If I said yes to all his ideas, who knows where we’d be right now, maybe a little in over our heads. But what happens when someone you respect comes to you with an idea to own a salon and then help create a new product that will completely transform the way women curl their hair? My guest on today’s episode had zero doubts that these two business ventures would fail. She gave a resounding yes to 2 separate opportunities without any experience in owning a company and dove straight in. Listen to episode 35 as I chat with Misty Allmandinger who co-created Violarosa Salon and Mane Label Hair Co.
If you’ve asked these questions before:
“Can I start a new business?”
“How do I start a new business?”
“Is it too late to start a business?”
“Can I find purpose in my career?”
THIS episode is for you!
Questions we discussed:
-There’s a type of artistry with cutting, coloring and styling hair, do you believe this was an innate skill of yours early on, or have you had to learn and grow and be challenged in your craft?
- What is the value and beauty of your role as a hairstylist? How do you fight against negative self talk (if any)?
-You decide to open up/co-create a salon in Scottsdale, AZ. How did this unfold?
-Why did you want to open your own salon as opposed to renting out a space or studio?
-From inception to first launch, how much time had passed after creating the Sway/Mane Label Hair Co?
-Who did you market to, how were you able to get your first customers?
-Your competitors have a very similar product, the end result is the same, heatless curls or waves, but the fabric and look in my opinion stands out among the others. In your opinion, what makes the sway a worthwhile product compared to others?
-Did age ever play a significant role in your decision to pursue or not pursue either of these businesses? If not, what factors positive or negative played significant roles in the creation of these businesses?
-If someone listening has an idea to create a product (any product), but is fearful to pursue it because of age or some other limiting fear, what would you advise them right now?
-If you could encourage 1 woman who feels limited to pursue a dream or goal based on her age or life circumstance (or has a limiting mindset that where she’s at is not enough), what would you tell her?

This week’s Flashback Episode has been the number 1 ranked episode for over 6 months. When I’ve polled listeners regarding their top favorite episodes, this one is always an episode people enjoyed and voted for. You can tell that as well based on the number of downloads. Lisa Lankes was incredibly gracious to give me her time and join me for this episode. She’s a pretty powerful woman, and I know you will leave inspired by her story as well. Enjoy the show!
Recap from the original show notes:
At one point in my career, I had a desire to climb the Educational Teaching/Principal/HR ladder and become a successful professional businesswoman. That could still happen at some point, but that dream shifted when I felt the calling to stay home and be the primary care-taker for my children. I could still go back at some point, and if so, may have to start at an entry to mid-level position. If that’s the case, then I need to be ok with that.
My guest on today’s episode started the journey in marketing and advertising at an entry level position at the age of 32. She worked her way up the corporate ladder to become an esteemed Chief Marketing Officer with a very prominent company in Fort Worth, Texas. But, at the age of 55, her dream to retire with this company she had known to love and care for came to an end. Listen to Lisa Lankes story on how she earned her way to the top and what she had to do when she started all over again at the age of 55.
If you’ve asked the question:
“Can I start over at 55?”
“Why does my life look different than I thought?”
“Am I stuck?”
“Can I start a new business in my 50s?”
“What happens when my identity is no longer in my job?”
“How do I move forward after a layoff?”
“What are the best ways to climb the corporate ladder?”
“How can I be a successful female business woman?”
THIS episode is for you!
Questions we discussed:
-What were your initial aspirations for your role with the company?
-As you look back at your career, what was it about you, your character, drive, etc. that helped open doors to receive these specific promotions or job titles?
-Why do you think it took until 2010 for a female to have such a high title/paying position within the company?
-You earned a very high rewarding, high paying position in a place you loved, with people you cared about, what eventually happened that changed the trajectory of your career?
-After being in a place for 20+ years, and being forced to leave, how did that affect you mentally?
-How did your view on loyalty with a company change? Do you think loyalty matters or should matter in a business?
-Did you ever feel inadequate to start your own business, or did you have confidence about you based on who you knew and your background?
-What does your business offer? Who is your clientele?
-In your previous roles, you delegated and oversaw teams, now with your company, it was just you. What did you have to learn or relearn when servicing clients?
-Why is the message of being more than your age so important?
--If you could encourage one woman who feels limited to pursue a dream or goal based on her age or life circumstance, what would you tell her?

This week’s Flashback series is still one of the highest ranked episodes. Cristi was incredibly open about her story, how she is more than a divorced woman, but how that shift in her life and identity helped her push forward to launch her career and find a new passion at the age of 46. Cristi was a delight, and I know her story already spoke to so many, and will speak to many more of you new listeners as well. Enjoy the show!
Recap from the original show notes:
We all have this dream of what life will look like by the time we reach a certain age. Sometimes that dream becomes a reality, and sometimes it doesn’t. What happens when that dream gets shattered? You may have this new label that you never would have dreamed of having. The dream is gone, and a new reality sets in. My guest on today’s episode shares how she HAD to move forward in life after a heartbreaking divorce. Listen to Episode 32 as Cristi Carother shares her story on how she was forced into a new life and unexpected career and business opportunity starting at 46.
If you’ve asked the question:
“Can I move on after divorce?”
“Why does my life look different than I thought?”
“Am I stuck?”
“Can I start a new business in my 50s?”
“Can I survive as a single mom?”
“How do I move forward as a single mom?”
THIS episode is for you!
Questions we discussed:
-As a now single mother, what were your next steps?
-How did you emotionally get through these dark years having to care for yourself and your children?
-When you go through such a tragic divorce and a forced new way of living plus providing financially for your family, many people who follow God would get mad at Him or say, “I did all the right things, and you allowed this to happen to me? How could you be a good God?” Do you resonate with these feelings? How did you wrestle through this?
-Were you planning to stay with the company long term? Because you were planning to stay with the company long term, how did Covid ruin those plans?
-You once again had to shift and figure out a way to make a living. What did you do?
-Did you know anyone else with a successful business? How did you know where to even start?
-For women walking through divorce right now, especially the one struggling with a shattered dream and the woman who believes her life is over, what is a piece of advice you can share with her as she’s in this darkness?

This week’s Flashback episode was one that I personally gained a lot from. I’ve quoted this guest probably the most out of any other guest based on her perspective of pursuing goals or dreams and not being limited to pursue anything based on age or life circumstance. At the time of this interview, Jessica was pursuing her masters after years away from school, and just recently graduated. I’ve been watching on her social media and am very excited that she completed this goal and if she hasn’t already, will embark on this new career that she’s always wanted. It’s a great episode to listen to someone in the midst of pursuing a dream. Enjoy the show!Recap from the original show notes:I can’t wait for you to listen to this week’s episode with my guest, Jessica DeVoss. Today’s episode is Part II from episode 16: “Stay-at-Home-Mom to Graduate School to Licensed Professional Counselor.” Jessica is currently in the midst of a huge life change from being the full time care-giver of her children to graduate student, with the plans of finishing her graduate degree in one more year and becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. She provides incredible insight on her struggles as a mom who dealt with postpartum depression, identity, and reopening a forgotten dream to pursue a career in counseling. Her wisdom and perspective provides a refreshing outlook on life, the difficulties in it, and chasing after something regardless of your age.Enjoy episode 17 with Jessica DeVoss.Connect with Jessica// Instagram //Connect with EricaEmail // Facebook // Instagram // LinkedinSign up for The More Than Your Age Podcast E-mail list
This week’s Flashback Episode is from a dear college friend of mine who so generously gave her kidney to a friend in need. The personal reviews and encouragement I heard from this episode really stood out, and this became a popular favorite for so many. It’s a remarkable story on how God;s hand was all over Holland and her friend. It’s one of those stories that you hear and can’t deny the existence of God and his work in our lives. I know you will walk away encouraged. Enjoy the show!
Recap from the original show notes:
You know those people in your life who are completely selfless, self sacrificing and are an encouragement to you just by being who God made them to be? My guest today is just that. Holland Ham’s story is one of selfless love for a friend in dire need. She generously gave away a piece of her in order to save a friend’s life. She had a lot to risk, but knew she was placed in her friend’s life for this specific reason. As you listen, I know you will be encouraged by this self-sacrificing love from Holland.

This week’s Flashback Episode is one that was insanely heavy. This episode is still ranked at the top of the charts and continues to inspire so many. Recap from the original show notes:
What would you do if you received the call that your spouse was just diagnosed with Cancer? How do you think you would respond? Would you find reasons to play the victim, blame others, or would you give all the praise to your God and creator? Experiencing the loss of a spouse is something nobody wants to go through, especially when you’re only 37. In today’s episode, Erica Pasvar talks with Kim Rauscher who tragically lost her husband to Cancer at a very young age, leaving behind 4 beautiful children. Kim’s response during this tragedy is something to note and revere. Her faith helped her get through the most excruciating months watching her husband slowly die and also is the anchor that keeps her going each day since his passing. No matter your situation, this episode will both draw out heartbreak while providing encouragement in the midst of grief.
Welcome to this year’s Summer Flashback Series. I am taking a break this summer, as my husband and I just welcomed our 4th child, our precious daughter into the world on May 9th. I had originally planned to edit and release another 2 episodes that were previously recorded throughout the end of May, but our baby girl ended up arriving sooner than expected. Because of this, I am stopping earlier and decided to release the podcast episodes that have had the biggest impact on the audience. I love all of The More Than Your Age Podcast Episodes, but these are the select few that newer listeners may not have heard before, and ones that have stood out to many listeners. I hope you enjoy these Flashback Episodes and return back on August 6th for a fresh new season. Enjoy these Flashbacks!

Today is a special day as I not only had the opportunity to interview one, but two guests! This was a first time experience having two guests on the show. I’m very thankful my first 2 guest interviews were with The Bulcher sisters. I met both Erin and Nicole several years ago when they opened their fitness studio, The Bar Method. It was an exciting time to witness and watch unfold as a dream came to fruition. With that dream comes a lot of hard work and stressful times. I had a great conversation with both Erin and Nicole regarding the steps into opening the business, the tough decision to sell only after a few years after opening, and navigating a new identity after a big life change.
Erin Peabody and Nicole Bohannon (The Bulcher sisters) and former owners of The Bar Method in Southlake, Texas, discuss their journey of opening and running a fitness studio together. They talk about their close relationship as sisters and how their differences actually strengthen their bond. They share their experiences in dance and fitness, including Nicole's time as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. They also discuss the challenges they faced in opening their own studio, including location and funding concerns. Despite the challenges, they were able to successfully open their studio and build a strong community of clients. Nicole and Erin discuss their experience of owning and selling a business. They talk about the challenges they faced, the exciting moments they experienced, and the identity shift that occurred after selling the business. They emphasize the importance of finding your passion, becoming an expert in your craft, and finding your identity in something greater than a title or role.
Takeaways
-The Bulcher sisters have a close and unique relationship that has grown stronger over the years.
-Opening a fitness studio comes with challenges, including finding the right location and securing funding.
-Building a strong community of clients is essential for the success of a fitness studio.
-Having a supportive friend or family member can make a big difference in pursuing your dreams.
-Embracing your differences and finding common ground can strengthen relationships.
-Your identity should not be solely based on your title or role; find your identity in something greater, such as your faith.
-Become an expert in your craft and immerse yourself in something you love.
-Find contentment and joy in what you're doing, even if it's not what you initially planned.
-Recognize that your life may have different seasons, and it's important to prioritize what's best for you and your family.
-Remember that your worth and value are not determined by your title or achievements, but by who you are as a person.

I was introduced to my guest on today’s show several years ago at a friend’s bachelorette party. The most beautiful outdoor picnic was created for a group of 15 or so women honoring my friend. Rae Johnson, the founder and owner of Not Ur Average Picnic, was the one who created a beautiful masterpiece that transformed the backyard and made the picnic glamorous for my friend. I’ve been following along on her journey (from afar), and have been in awe of the beautiful work she does. I knew she started this business at a “young” age and I wanted to hear all about how she got started and what her business looks like today.
In our conversation, Rae shares her journey of starting and growing her business. She talks about her background in finance and teaching, and how she discovered her passion for creating beautiful picnics. Rae discusses the challenges she faced, including competition and the seasonal nature of the business, and how she pivoted to offer a wider range of event planning services. She emphasizes the importance of staying in your own lane and not comparing yourself to others.
Enjoy the show!
Takeaways
-Starting a business can be scary, but staying focused and staying in your own lane is key to success.
-Pivoting and adapting to changing circumstances is crucial for business growth.
-Comparison can be detrimental to your progress, so focus on your own journey and be grateful for what you have.

Music has a way of speaking to our souls in a variety of ways. How a songwriter can convey truth and poetry to create a song that leaves an impact on our hearts is truly remarkable. I came across my guest today at an intimate concert back in the fall of 2023. Every single song she sang was profound and deeply touching. I had the opportunity to chat with her after the show and learned a little bit about how she got started in her music career. I knew instantly that her story would be one to share with the More Than Your Age listeners. It was an honor to speak with Caroline Cobb and share a small part of her story.
Caroline Cobb shares her journey as a musician and songwriter, from writing an album for her thesis to pursuing music as a career. She discusses the challenges of balancing music and motherhood and how she found ways to continue making music within the limits of her life circumstances. Caroline also talks about her passion for writing songs based on the Bible and her upcoming projects, including an EP and an Advent book. She encourages women to pursue their dreams and goals, emphasizing the importance of taking small steps and trusting God with the results.

-Caroline started writing and performing music in high school, and her faith and music developed simultaneously.
-Caroline initially kept her songwriting as a private hobby but gained more confidence over time.

-Balancing music and motherhood can be challenging, but finding ways to work within the limits of your life circumstances can help you continue pursuing your passion.

-Taking small steps towards your dreams and goals, even if they seem insignificant, can lead to greater opportunities and growth.
-Trusting God with the results of your creative work and embracing the journey, rather than focusing solely on the end goal, can bring fulfillment and joy.
If you’ve asked the question:
Is it too late to start a music career?
Can I become a songwriter?
How can I balance motherhood and a career?
How do I get a job singing?
How do you kickstart a singing career?
How do I write a song?
How do people start writing music?
Can I make an impact?
THIS is the episode for you!

We all have a perception on what marriage should look like, and when is the best time to get married. You may think marriage should happen at a really young age or that you need to wait until you’ve experienced more life. You may also think that your life will have value and a purpose once you’ve met the love of your life. The reality is that our lives aren’t complete or incomplete once we have or have not found the “right one.” My guest, Vendi Stepney, on today’s episode shares her journey of what happened when she was trying to find purpose in marriage at an early age and the red flags she ignored. She shares her experience at a conference that brought clarity and the realization that she needed to let go and move forward. She learned a lot along the way and has grown tremendously to the woman she is today.
Vendi also shares her journey as a singer and songwriter, starting from her early days in ministry to traveling and performing with her sister. She discusses the transition to a solo career and the challenges of balancing music with a day job in the tech industry. Vendi talks about seeking God and finding healing in her life. She emphasizes the importance of where to truly find purpose.
Takeaways
-Balancing a music career with a day job can provide stability and financial security.
-Pay attention to red flags in relationships and take the time to evaluate the situation before making major commitments.
-Seeking guidance and support from friends and family can help navigate challenging times.
-Trusting in God's plan and surrendering to His will can lead to healing and new opportunities. Pay attention to red flags in relationships and don't ignore them.
-Seek God and find healing in Him during difficult times.
-Find your purpose and fulfillment in God rather than in external circumstances.
-Don't let your age or life circumstances limit you from pursuing your dreams.

We’ve all had a vision in our minds of what success looks like. For some, it may be being the best at your craft or job, for others it may be a specific title or accolade, and for some, it may be something more simplistic. No matter what, everyone has a vision and idea of success. In today’s episode, I speak with Kenzie Wilson who is a Texas educator and someone who viewed success in one light, and completely transformed her vision of what success really means after becoming a mother. This episode is slightly different than most of our episodes, but it provides an outlook on redefining success and understanding that happiness can come from the simple things in life and our accomplishments are more than a fancy title to our name.
Kenzie Wilson shares her journey of redefining success and finding happiness. Growing up in a small town, Kenzie always had the vision of becoming a CEO and climbing the corporate ladder. However, becoming a mother and experiencing the joys and challenges of raising children shifted her perspective on success. She realized that success can be found in the simplicity of life and in being present for her family. Kenzie now works as a college career and military readiness advisor, helping high school students define their own version of success. She encourages them to focus on what truly matters to them and not compare themselves to others. In this conversation, Kenzie discusses the importance of competing against oneself and striving to be better than the person she was yesterday. She emphasizes the need to focus on personal growth rather than comparing oneself to others. Kenzie also shares the idea of looking ahead and chasing the person she wants to be in the future.
Takeaways
-Success is not limited to professional achievements; it can be found in the simplicity of life and in being present for your family.
-Comparing yourself to others can lead to negative feelings and self-doubt. It's important to define your own version of success and focus on your own journey.
-Redefining success requires letting go of preconceived notions and being open to new perspectives.
-Being present and finding joy in everyday moments can bring a sense of fulfillment and happiness. Focus on competing against yourself and strive to be better than the person you were yesterday.
-Look ahead and chase the person you want to be in the future.
-Break free from age barriers and societal expectations to pursue your dreams and goals.
-Embrace new seasons of life and find excitement in the changes they bring.

I think there’s something special and unique about a person when you get the opportunity to talk to them and feel this connection and draw towards them as a person. There are people in this world that are truly remarkable and the fact that I had the opportunity to speak with one and discover her kindness and unique warmth, made this interview extra special. Abby Snyder shared a part of her story in how she and her husband decided to pursue adoption, and not just a neurotypical adoption, but one with children with special needs. It’s a great story of love and compassion as you listen to Abby share how she chose this life and the impact it has had on her life. She discusses the growth and maturity her daughters have experienced, as well as their improved academic and artistic abilities. In addition, Abby also talks about her children's book, which aims to build vocabulary for children with developmental delays. Additionally, she shares her unexpected venture into pottery and how it became a way to bring people together.
I can’t wait for you to listen to Abby’s story and learn from her compassionate heart.

I really am humbled each opportunity I get to sit down with each woman I’ve had the chance to speak with and share a part of their story on this podcast. Sometimes, there’s a lot of heartache that has turned around for the better. This week’s episode is no different. To be honest, I had a completely different vision of what my interview would be like with my guest based on what I “knew” about her and her journey. But when we communicated beforehand and during the interview, there was a completely different outcome than what I had imagined our conversation to be. Beka Joy Hull shared some deeply vulnerable moments in her life that oftentimes gets overlooked or can have a negative stigma related to it. Her experience and outlook from this moment is one to help others and offer hope for those in the midst as well.
In our conversation, Beka shares her journey from embarking on the World Race to losing almost everything and starting over after a traumatic experience. She discusses her diagnosis of bipolar disorder and the challenges she faced in rebuilding her life. Beka also talks about the importance of overcoming stigma and openly sharing her story. She also shares her decision to pursue writing and speaking, and her passion for encouraging others through her words. Beka shares her journey of following God's call, overcoming challenges, and starting her own business. She emphasizes the importance of trusting God and stepping out in faith, even when faced with uncertainty.
I know you’ll appreciate the vulnerability and honesty from Beka Joy Hull. Enjoy the show.
*Beka’s age at the onset of the Bipolar Disorder Diagnosis was referenced at the age of 28 in the interview, but her actual age was 29.

This episode is the last guest episode for the 2023 year. What a year it has been! I’m thankful to finish this year off with my final guest, Johana Miller. Johana has a unique story of moving to the states from Panama as a young girl and learning how to navigate life as an immigrant without any knowledge of the English language. Her grit and determination to learn and grow quickly helped her become the woman she is today. Johana’s background helped her launch the start of several businesses and a side business in the short term rental market. Johana has such a vivacious personality that you’ll fall in love with as you listen. Enjoy the last guest episode of the year, and stay tuned next week for the final episode of 2023.
Questions we discussed in this episode:
-What do you remember as a child growing up in a foreign country learning a new language and being different from other children?
-How has the experience of growing up as a first generation immigrant played into your role as a parent now raising your children and for yourself personally as an adult?
-What have been the greatest obstacles in owning real estate and working in the short term rental world?
-Around the same time of owning and operating real estate, you created your own private online language coaching program Mellifluent LLC. Spanish is part of your heritage and culture, why was it important to start this coaching program?
-Why choose an online program as opposed to traditional language learning in a school setting?
- You also started a language program at a local charter school in Atlanta. How did you know they needed assistance, and how did you even get your foot in the door with the school?
-As an entrepreneur who has created several businesses, did you ever feel blocked or limited by your age to move forward with these businesses? If not, did any limitations stand in your way? If so, how did you work through any negative beliefs?
-If you could encourage 1 woman who feels blocked or limited to pursue a dream or goal based on her age or life circumstance, what would you tell her?
If you’ve asked the questions:
“Can I learn a new language?”
“Is it too late to learn a new language?”
“Can I start a business?”

I love how I get the opportunity to speak with women who are so encouraging and kind and most importantly, humble. I am excited for you to hear my interview today with Grapevine Middle School Principal, Mandy Alexander, who is one of the most humble leaders I’ve had a chance to speak with as someone who has worked in public education for a while and who has been around a lot of people in any type of leadership. As I spoke with Mandy, it was clear to see why she was given the great opportunity to become a principal after a short amount of time after she had been away from the classroom for 14 years. Her outlook on life and the path that it took to get her to a position she never expected to have is one of honor and respect. I can’t wait for you to learn from and hear Mandy’s story on her unexpected path to becoming a principal after 14 years away from the classroom.

I love hearing stories about women who start pursuing a hobby at an “older” age and compete with other women who have been participating in the same hobby since they were children. These stories are such inspirations to me and to so many. They can really help motivate others to want to do the same in a hobby they may want to pursue themselves. My guest on today’s episode decided she wanted to pursue boxing as a fun new hobby. When she first joined a gym, her initial goal was to try something new, but after going to her first match as an attendee, she realized she needed to be out there on the mat herself. And guess what? She was already 29! Did that stop her? Not at all. I can’t wait for you to hear my conversation with Jess Lawson and how she became an amateur boxer at the age of 29.
If you’ve asked the questions:
“Am I too old to start boxing?”
“Is it too late to start a new hobby?”
“Can I compete in a sport at an older age?”
“Is it too late?”
THIS is the episode for you!
Questions we discussed:
-What was it that intrigued you about boxing gyms compared to your traditional gyms?
-What is unique about 1 of only 2 female owned boxing gyms in the United States?
-You start boxing, then you watch one of the instructors compete. What happened when you were at the boxing match that created a curiosity in you to start competing yourself?
-Tell me about your first official boxing match. What were your emotions, how was your confidence in your ability to compete? What was going through your mind?
-What motivates you to push forward as someone who started this sport at an “older age?”
-What do you have to do to keep up or to tell yourself that you are qualified enough to compete? -What is it like on the hard days when you may feel less qualified?
-If you could encourage 1 woman who feels blocked or limited to pursue a dream or goal based on her age or life circumstance, what would you tell her?

I couldn’t be more excited to share episode 39 with the listeners this week as I had the honor and privilege to chat with Birds on a Wire founder and creator, Karen Stubbs. I met Karen several months ago at a coffee shop with a few other friends of mine in a local moms group. Karen spoke to us to encourage us for the upcoming year and shed some light on what she does and how her ministry is built to encourage moms. As soon as she started speaking, I heard her story, knew there was something special about her, and wanted to invite her as a guest on The More Than Your Age Podcast. Karen Stubb’s story of how she began speaking to thousands upon thousands of women, specifically moms, and writing books and curriculum with zero formal training and experience after staying home for roughly 20 years, is highly encouraging and humbling as well. I can’t wait for you to listen to Karen’s story on how she got to where she is, and the steps along the way that took her to get there.
If you’ve asked these questions before:
“Can God really use me?”
“Can I start a business after being a stay at home mom?”
“Is it too late?”
“How can I use the skills and passions God has given me?”
“Is there purpose in the waiting?”
THIS is the episode for you!
Questions we discussed:
-With your husband gone often, what were practical tools that you had to use every day to get through the really tough days?
-Was there ever any type of resentment towards your husband being gone?
-Did you have a desire to pursue any type of work outside the home?
-You met a woman who prophesied over your life at one point. What did she tell you? What did you think of the news she shared?
-While working at this church, you discover a big need for young moms. What was the need, and why was it so important?
-When you first started meeting with women in your basement, when and why did you start thinking this could or needed to be bigger than just a weekly small group?
-Why is Birds on a Wire such an important ministry, and what is it that you love about this work?
-What have you had to tell yourself when you’ve experienced moments of inadequacy?
- What would you say to the listener (mom or not) who feels called to pursue something, but has encountered negative responses from people they trust or work with?
-If you could encourage 1 woman who feels blocked or limited to pursue a dream or goal based on her age or life circumstance, what would you tell her?

This week’s episode is very special to me as I had the opportunity to talk with my mom, Jean Pasvar. Throughout my life, my mother has struggled with her weight, and it was something she dealt with as a child growing up. She has worked incredibly hard to accomplish the task of losing 100 pounds by the age of 66. The lead up to this big weight loss didn’t come easy, and as her daughter, it was difficult to hear the pain that my mom has had to endure throughout her life as she shared her story. I love her so much and am insanely proud of what she’s accomplished and is capable of doing at the now age of 70 years old. I hope you can find encouragement through this episode in my mom’s vulnerability of losing 100 pounds.
If you’ve asked the questions:
“Is it too late to lose weight?”
“Should I just give up?”
“How can I lose 100Ibs?”
“Do I have the courage?”
“Can I lose weight at 60?”
“Am I too old to workout?”
“It it too late?”
THIS is the episode for you!

I like to look back at old diary entries of when I was a little girl to see what my adolescent brain thought about life, boys, school, and my future dreams. It’s fun and yet sometimes embarrassing to see what I wrote and the thoughts I had. I like to look back on the memories of dreams I had as a little girl. I wanted to be an actress, perform, or do voice overs for cartoons. Those were some of my dreams as a little girl. Could they still happen? Maybe, if I still wanted them too, you never know.... My guest on today’s episode had a dream of traveling the world and becoming a pilot from a very young age. Was it an easy road? Well… you’ll have to listen to Kerbi Mueller's story on starting out as a flight attendant and becoming a Pilot at 39 to find out! Listen to Episode 37 of The More Than Your Age Podcast with Pilot, Kerbi Mueller.
If you’ve asked these questions before:
“Can I start over in my 30s?”
“Can I become a pilot later in life?”
“Can I become a pilot after being a flight attendant?”
“Can I become a female pilot?”
“Can I pursue my childhood dreams?”
“Is it too late to start a new career?”
“Am I too old?”
THIS is the episode for you!
Questions we discussed:
-At what point in your life did you decide you wanted to be a flight attendant? What was it about working for an airline/being a flight attendant that peaked your interest?
-Did you have additional hopes or plans you wanted to pursue?
-How did you combat negative self-talk or fears that you weren’t qualified or fears that you were too late in the game? What were (if any), the hesitations you had at the beginning?
-Have you felt like you’ve had to prove yourself as qualified because you are a woman?
-Did you feel as though you had to prove yourself as qualified starting at an older age?
-What is the reception like when passengers board your plane (or deboard) and see you?
-If there’s a woman who may have an itch to fly, but is scared, or feels as though she;s too late in the game to start, what would you say to her as she’s wrestling with these thoughts?

Welcome to episode 34 of The More Than Your Age Podcast. Today’s episode is one to ignite some passion and fire in your soul about what it truly means to age, and to age well. Lisa Arendelle with Lisa Lou Fitness has a dynamic personality that will motivate and encourage you while you listen to her story and reflect on your own personal views of your age. Lisa shares her life of fighting against generational health issues, what she did so she wouldn’t be a statistic in her family, and how she is now using her knowledge to help women get a hold of their health and to age backwards.
If you’ve asked these questions before:
“How can I be active over 40?”
“Can I prevent knee pain?”
“Why do I hate celebrating my birthday?”
“Can there be any joy in aging?”
“How do I stay active and healthy over 50?”
“Are there preventative measures to implement now before I reach 60?”
“Are my best years behind me?”
THIS episode is for you!
Questions we discussed:
-Why did you initially start working in the health and fitness industry?
-40 is the age where women start to say their best years are behind them. What did you experience from either yourself or other women that made you decide taking a hold of your life at or after 40 was necessary?
-How have you personally had to push through negative beliefs about aging as a personal trainer, dancer, fitness professional, and just as a woman?
-Your main mission is to help women age well through intentional life-style habits to feel as good as we can for as long as we’re here on Earth. What do you personally do so you’re aligned with your mission, and how do you transfer those skills over to your clients?
-One post I saw on your blog was about Making New Friends as a Grown Woman. In talking with so many friends, this is very difficult to accomplish, especially as we get older. Why is that the case, and what could you share with the listeners that may help or encourage them?
-You shared with me that you've been in a quiet place for 6 months. How has this impacted your business, mindset, and mission?
-Could you share what Faith Forward, Age Backward is, and how it came to be, and what you want it to look like?
-What else have you found in your business that has helped you and many women as they age?
-If you could encourage 1 woman who feels blocked or limited to pursue a dream or goal based on her age or life circumstance, what would you tell her?

When I first started this podcast, there were lots of fears that creeped in my mind for all the reasons not to move forward: I would tell myself, you don’t know what you’re doing, you don’t have a big following, who would listen, it’s super scary, you don’t know how to edit or what equipment to use, you don’t know what you are doing at all, and so on. I’m so thankful I didn’t allow myself to listen to these setbacks or any other negative self-talk I could have spoken (in my head). I learned that I needed to start small, and grow from there, and just see what happens. My guest, Courtney Bosworth, on today’s episode sshared that little bit of insight when she decided to leave the teaching profession to be a more present wife and mother, without having a plan for what to do next as a career. She decided to pick up a camera, invest in herself, start small, and eventually created a thriving wedding and family photography business.
If you have asked the following questions:
“Can I start over?”
“Is it too late to start a business?”
“Can I start a photography business?”
“How do I start a photography business?”
“What jobs can I do after teaching?”
“Am I stuck?”
“Can I create a thriving business at 40?”
This is the episode for you!
Questions we discussed:
-At what point did you have a desire to pursue something outside of the classroom?
-What was it about photography that looked appealing to you?
-Did you feel as though you had an eye for photography? What was your background in photography?
-How did you finally make the decision to jump and take the risk?
-You left teaching to have a career that allows you to be a present mom while running a business. How much of that has come to fruition? What are your current goals within your business?
- We discussed recently that you are looking for a change, but not exactly sure what that change is. What do you think year 1 Courtney would say to you right now? What do you feel would truly bring full satisfaction?
-What would you say to the woman who feels stuck in a career and has a business idea, but is terrified of pursuing that idea?

I love that there are people in this world who see a need, and decide to create an organization to help fill in the gaps with those specific needs. My guest today, Josephine Bryan saw a need in her home country after a visit to care for her father. Little did she know that the visit to say goodbye to her dad would open her eyes to a huge need that turned into a non-profit that would offer assistance for the country she once called home.
Did she think she was too old to start an organization that made a difference? Was it too late? Was it scary to start something new? Listen to this week’s episode to hear how Josephine decided to start a non-profit in her 50s and what it took to get her there.
Questions we discussed:
-As a young woman living in the States without family, in a foreign country where everything is different, what was it like making friends? How did you get through the challenging moments of loneliness?
- As you would visit the Philippines, you would see a need that stirred a desire in you to do something impactful. COuld you share what led you to your organization?
-When you saw this need and wanted to do something about it, what were (if any) your hesitations for starting a non-profit?
-How did you know where to begin and how were you able to get the necessary funding to begin?
- You started this non-profit in your mid 50s. Did age ever play a factor as a fear or reason not to pursue Hunger Free Philippines?
-What is your dream for your non-profit?
-What would you say to the woman who has a desire to start a non-profit, but doesn’t have a way to get funds or even know how to start?

Do you ever think that you are too old to start over? Or it’s too late to try something completely new in a career field you know little to nothing about? What if you were in your mid 30s starting over? Is it too late then? In this week’s episode, Megan Brock shares her story on how she closed the door on a business she created and entered the corporate world knowing very little to nothing about the new career she was embarking on.
If you have been feeling like you need to end one chapter and start a new one, but are fearful of the unknown, this episode is for you. It’s not too late to start over and it’s not too late to start again.
Scary, sure, but it’s not too late.
Questions we discussed:
-What made you decide to create your new business?
-As a single woman, how were you able to remain content in your season of life while being surrounded by marriage and kids and a life that you desired?
-What happened at that time that required you to jump into an entirely new career?
-How have you been able to learn and grow without having a traditional educational background or experience?
-To the woman who fears leaving a familiar career, and worried she won’t get hired in another career field, what are some practical steps for her that you think may be beneficial?

It feels like in every aspect of life we’re always preparing for the next step. In elementary school you work so hard to prepare for Middle School, then in Middle school you have to work hard to be prepared for high school, then from high school, it’s college. After college it’s the workforce, and after work, it’s retirement. When we graduate college or leave high school to start a career, we are working towards making money, providing for ourselves or our family with the end goal of retiring and just enjoying life. But what happens to those who do retire and feel as though they’ve lost all sense of purpose? Can you find a new purpose after retirement? Maybe the life of living on a beach and traveling is not in their cards. Maybe it is. But can you still find fulfillment and a reason for living once everything you knew has vanished? My guest, Linda Grado, on today’s episode shares the reality of what she experienced post retirement and how she decided to use this new season to make a difference and start a business at 66.
If you have recently retired, or are close to it, take a listen and hear Linda’s story as she shares the raw reality of what she experienced post-retirement, and how a new opportunity opened up that gave her a fresh perspective on life. Even if you are not close to retirement, Linda’s story provides a great amount of wisdom and perspective on how you should view YOUR life.

The Milestones Series ended last week, and next week starts a brand new line up of phenomenal women for the fall. The stories of these everyday women who are overcoming limitations and restrictions based on their age are absolutely phenomenal and highly encouraging. You do not want to miss!
This week’s episode dives into a very personal topic, yet one that is of most importance to host, Erica Pasvar. Erica decided to share her story of how she came to a faith at a young age of 6 years old. Can one truly come to faith at 6, is it a valid faith, or is it because one “grew up in church” that they think they have faith? These questions are common among people who either grew up in some type of faith or even those on the outside who did not. This episode is here so that you can hear what Erica believes, why she believes it, and if she still believes it today based on recent tragic events in her life.
Tune in to listen to what it was like having a faith at the young age of 6.

Many women enter the workforce with a few goals in mind: climb the corporate ladder, become a successful working woman, leave the workforce to stay at home (if/when they become a mother), or many more. My guest on today’s episode did not have the desire to stay home with her kids, but once her precious ones were here, she decided to make the change and become the primary care-taker to her children. Kathy Gissler shares what life looked like in the early years as a stay at home mom and how her life changed when the idea of pursuing her master’s in counseling in her mid 30s led to a lifestyle and career change she never expected. Kathy now has a little over 20 years of counseling under her belt and provides great wisdom on life and how and why she chose to follow the path that led her to where she is now.
Kathy’s story and life experience was such a blessing to me. You’ll fall in love with the woman she is and her outlook on life.
This episode is 1 of 2 episodes with women in the exact same boat, just 20-25 years apart. You get to hear Kathy’s experience after making this change 20 years ago and Episode 17 (part II) will share the story of a woman in the midst of the change right now.

Do you know a woman who puts everyone else's needs before her own? She constantly makes sure they achieve their goals, helps when they’re sick, sacrifices her own desires to make sure everyone else gets their own? Are you that woman? My guest today shares her experience as a sacrificial caretaker for the many people in her life at a very young age. She pushed aside any steps towards pursuing her own dreams or career to willingly provide for her family. Finally, at age 50, she decided to finish her bachelors degree as a part of her bucket list and has now embarked on a new career as a first year teacher. Her story on how she got to where she is now is truly inspiring and well worth the listen. I hope you enjoy my conversation with Pat McGuire.

There are people in this world who have a special calling to work with individuals dealing with extreme trauma. The trauma can vary, and the stages in life of each person varies as well. An avenue where people can help is through foster and adoption. This process can look different from state to state, and especially from one country to another. My guest, Amber Black, on today’s episode experienced working at a home for young children through the age of 18 in a country outside of the United States. She observed a lot of trauma and learned how to coach staff through trauma informed care at a school she and her husband started. In an unconventional way, she felt a calling to take in one of the teenagers as her own. In this episode, you’ll learn how Amber and her husband landed overseas and how becoming a mother at 39 to a teenager was never on her radar, until it was.

Do you know anyone who took the leap to pursue acting professionally at a “younger age”? Did they move to New York or LA to give it a try “while they were young” because that’s the only time one can make it a career in the acting profession? If you’re like me, the answer is probably yes. I know I had the mindset that a person could only succeed in this profession while they were young or without a family and kids. A lot of people give up on the idea to pursue an acting career once they reach past a certain season in life or age. I’m happy to share that my guest today does not live by that mentality and chose to chase after her dream of acting at the height of a global pandemic and in her mid to late 30s. If you think you’re too old for this career, think again.
I can’t wait for you to hear Sara Burd’s story and leave inspired to go after something you’ve been longing for yourself.

Do you ever feel as though you are too young or less experienced to chase after a talent of yours? Do you feel as though people don’t respect you based on your youthfulness and lack of experience? Sadly, some may have a negative view on the youth and their talents, but fortunately, their opinion doesn’t matter. People, young and old, have gifts and talents they should pursue and go after, no matter their age or season in life.

Have you ever had the desire to sell everything, buy an RV and live the simplistic life exploring nature without an agenda or timeline to get you there? Many people say they would love to live the RV life and have no cares in the world, but do they actually follow through with it? Our interview today is with Jess Farish who decided with her husband to take their 2 toddlers, sell everything, and live and travel in an RV.
In this interview, Jess shared a few noteworthy quotes that we had to put in the show notes. Take a look yourself:
“Today is the youngest you will ever be.”
“You either build your dreams or help someone else build theirs. (I happen to believe you can and should do both.)”
“If you can fail at what you don’t love, you might as well try for what you do.”
“There is no expiration date on your dreams.”
“It’s only scary or intimidating, until you do it.”

In the very first interview episode of The More Than Your Age Podcast, Erica Pasvar sits with local artist Sarah Hickey to discuss how her career drastically changed from an obvious closed door of what she thought her life was going to look like to an unexpected passionate business. In this Episode, Erica Pasvar shares the “why” and "how" the podcast came to be. This episode gives the listeners a glimpse into the passion and purpose behind being “More Than Your Age.”
There’s an old saying that “Age is nothing but a number.” But is it really? Is it just a number or does it carry a heavier weight than we actually think? Do these numbers inspire or deter you from pursuing a passion? Many women can be limited in their goals or dreams based on a number that equates to their age. Join the More Than Your Age Podcast host, Erica Pasvar, as she engages in conversations with everyday women who fully live their lives without being dictated or defined by their age. This episode is the introduction to The More Than Your Age Podcast. This is a space to encourage women who feel blocked to pursue a dream or goal based on their life circumstances. Let’s start living life fully and become More Than Your Age.
