This episode may challenge everything you thought you knew about metabolism. Today, we're diving into why chronic calorie restriction, fasting, and low-carb diets can actually work against your metabolic health especially for women in perimenopause and beyond.
You'll learn how the thyroid acts as your body's metabolic thermostat, why underfueling signals "danger" to the brain, and how stress hormones, blood sugar, and hormone balance are all interconnected. We discuss the common patterns seen in women struggling with hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's, stubborn weight gain, fatigue, poor sleep, and hormone imbalance and why the solution is often nourishment, not more restriction.
In this episode, you'll discover:
If you're tired of feeling stuck in a cycle of dieting, fatigue, cravings, and weight loss resistance, this episode offers a different perspective: one centered on fueling your body, supporting your hormones, and creating a metabolism that feels safe enough to thrive.

After 5+ years working with women, I’ve seen how little we’re taught about our hormones; how they drive our cycles, shape our quality of life, and change with age. Too often, what’s common gets mistaken for normal. In this episode, I break down the phases of your cycle, what truly balances hormones, how birth control suppresses natural rhythms, and the key signs of imbalance as hormone levels decline.

With intentions to cultivate a slow and intentional summer, I found myself on the other end, feeling slightly overwhelmed with a full calendar. Many of the season’s rituals were missed and while we had some great days, everything just moved too quickly. Maybe my word for next summer will be “savor.” This year it felt more like I treading water opposed to sipping it with a straw on a beach chair. I’m sharing my takeaways and what I plan to implement next summer in order to truly squeeze the most out of my favorite 3 months.

Is our obsession with protein just another health and wellness trend, or is there some validity to this hyper focused movement? In this episode, I break down the importance of protein in a healthy diet as we consider activity level, overall health, and personal goals. I speak to the idea that not all cultures are eating this way… sometimes a little reflection on a wider scope helps us to make decisions that fit into our lifestyles in a more realistic way.

In this episode I sit down with a dear friend of mine, Megan Jurvis, to talk about how/why her and her family made the decision to leave their mainstream lifestyle and travel the country (and then some) in an RV for 8 years. Megan had a typical upbringing, one that did not necessarily steer her in the direction to do something "different." Motherhood brought a new perspective as she chose to follow an attachment parenting style and homeschool her children. Both decisions would allow for an alternative lifestyle, one that she was being pulled towards.
Megan shares how she worked past the fear and was able to make big decisions in order to spend almost a decade experiencing something that does not come with a guidebook. I hope you find some tidbits of inspiration listening to Megan's story as you work to build a live you love.
