How do you get the gift of tongues? Do you have to pursue it? Or do you just wait passively for God to give it to you? Is everyone able to receive the gift of tongues or is it only for a select few? So, do YOU speak in tongues? If not, are you AT ALL curious about this spiritual gift? Do you WANT the gift of tongues? Or are you LEERY of the whole idea? Well, on today's episode, we define what the gift of tongues is, what the Bible says about it, what different church denominations say about it -- and what WE say about it! And, yes indeed, ONE of us has the gift of tongues and one of us is still pursuing it. We discuss what it's like to want a gift that others have BUT you DON'T -- and what it's like to have a gift that you don't know if you even REALLY want!
This episode ran long (because we just love to babble on and on!) so we broke it into two parts. Although we reveal the experiences of our getting (or NOT getting) tongues in the NEXT episode (EP 21), there are clues in this one about which of us have the gift if you listen closely, because we accidently let it slip! LOL! Also, in Part Two, we dive deeper into what the gift is for and how it powerfully impacts not only the believer and the church, but everyone in our lives -- and basically, the entire world.

Today we're doing something a wee bit different – dare we say AUDACIOUS? – by prophesying over you (maybe!) in the second half of the show. We attempt to demystify the whole idea of prophesying to strangers from coffee shops to mountain tops. So, what do YOU think of the manifestations of the Holy Spirit? Like being Slain in the Spirit, Drunk in the Spirit, shaking, laughing, or feeling like a whole tub of hot lava is pouring over you...? What's the point? Do they serve a purpose? Well, we used to be mighty wary of manifestations for most of our lives – that is, until our adventure with the Holy Spirit began. Then we finally stopped judging and started discerning – and finally began RECEIVING. Ah, yes! We did indeed reject revival in our college and post college days, because we were put off by the package it came in. What we witnessed in 1994 seemed so messy and out of control. But now, many years later, we truly embrace revival and view it as not only desirable, but NECESSARY in our Christian lives. We now consider revivals as "God's Rolling Refreshment Throughout World History." How did we get here?
Join us as we share our awkward (and even wacky!) first experiences of revival, and the reasons why we initially rejected it. We explain how the Holy Spirit led us on a life-long spiritual adventure of discovering all the ways God moves in His people. A handful of historic revivals are touched on in this episode, including the Welsh Revival, the Azusa Street Revival, the Hebrides Revival, the Toronto Revival, and even the more low key revival that took place during Henrietta Mears' college ministry in Hollywood during the 1930s/1940s/1950s. (As well as revival experiences in California during the last ten or so years.)
Finally, we discuss the purpose of personal and corporate revival, how to discern which moves are "of God" and which aren't, and how to pray for revival.

Welcome to our FINAL episode on Christian Discernment! Today, we discuss the the two types of decision-making Christians typically make with the Holy Spirit: "Meadow" Decisions and "Bullseye" Decisions. With Meadow Decisions, we have the freedom to make all sorts of decisions in partnership with the Holy Spirit, without it being disobedience if we make one decision versus another. A Bullseye Decision, on the other hand, is a specific instruction from God and if we refuse His call, we are being disobedient. (Like good ol' Jonah!) We share personal examples and case studies of both types of decisions -- and offer tips on how to go about discerning in each. What BLOCKS your discernment? What prevents you from experiencing the internal freedom – which we call “holy indifference” – to discern clearly? Today, we cover both the overt AND the sneaky ways the enemy tries to block or distract you from hearing God and discerning His best for you. We include a number of examples and one specific case study which illustrate how these blocks occur – and show you how to PLOW right through them!
WHAT KEEPS US FROM THE FREEDOM TO DISCERN CLEARLY?
SIN PROPENSITIES: Those sins that we struggle with more than others. The basic seven are envy, sloth, wrath, pride, greed, lust, and gluttony.
DISORDERED ATTACHMENTS: Things that in and of themselves are fine as preferences, but they become disordered when they have inordinate control over us and exert more influence than God over our lives.
FALSE SPIRITS: The spirits who work against the will of God in our lives, who work against the Holy Spirit and actively deceive us.

So you are about to decide between two EQUALLY good opportunities. How do you discern which "good" is God's BEST for you? Good question! Today, we walk you through a big decision Autumn and her husband had to make, pausing to highlight the discernment required for each step along the way. We also discuss CONSOLATION and DESOLATION and what part they play in discernment. The second half of the show is devoted to tips, suggestions, and exercises to help YOU discern clearly when making a big decision. Issues covered include: peace, lack of peace, red flags, head and heart alignment, and extrapolation.
CONSOLATION AND DESOLATION IN DISCERNMENT:
We are not alone in our discerning. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit is active within us drawing our attention to various internal affective states called consolation and desolation. AFFECTIVE consolation is when we experience deep feelings of resonance, well-being, peace, joy, faith, hope, and love among others; and affective desolation is when we have deep feelings of dissonance, unease, distress, anxiety, fear, hopelessness, despair, etc. The direction our affective feelings take us is called VOLITIONAL consolation or desolation. When we’re moving toward God, we are experiencing volitional consolation and when we’re moving away from God that is volitional desolation. When attempting to discern we don’t want to be making decisions in affective or volitional desolation. These are not surface level feelings that we might feel in the ups and downs of a normal day, but rather deeper currents that run underneath the surface.
