Equity in New Haven
NHUSD has a diverse population with rich cultures that create a strong foundation for student learning. As a part of Strategic Goal #2 Equity, Access and Achievement, we focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) to support the educational experience of all students, but especially students of color. This podcast will discuss various equity practices at our district that will educate our audience on what equity looks like within the classroom and school environment.

Today’s topic is all about culturally responsive teaching (also known as culturally sustaining pedagogy or culturally relevant pedagogy)--all relating to the same concept of asset based pedagogies–what it encompasses and what we as educators can do to better prepare ourselves in the classroom. With us today we have a few of our Ethnic Studies teachers from James Logan High–Ivan Santos, Jeren Penalaso, and Marisa Villegas. And co-hosting with me, I have Fatima Ashufta, our TOSA at Kitayama Elementary school.
