Panthera is a leading clinical trials organisation with dedicated clinical trial sites in locations around the UK, including Preston, Manchester, Glasgow, and London. Panthera was founded in 2019 by Dr Ian Smith, who founded Synexus – the first SMO model – in Europe in 1989, and Professor John Lyon, a past global VP of CRO Covance. Since 2019, and despite the COVID pandemic, Panthera has grown to more than five sites across the UK with several more planned. Panthera has also formed a partnership with three sites in southern Sweden and is in discussion with further sites across Western Europe.

The Oliver King Foundation was set up in January 2012 following the tragic death of 12-year-old Oliver King, Mark’s son.
Oliver died from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome, a hidden heart condition which kills 12 young people every week. Oliver attended King David High School in Liverpool and suffered a cardiac arrest whilst taking part in a swimming race.
The charity provides training in defibrillator awareness and in first aid. To date they have placed 5,900 defibrillators in schools and organisations across the UK, and Mark has travelled the country from the Outer Hebrides to Portsmouth to train 135,000 staff in defibrillator awareness. The foundation has helped save 64+ lives through the defibrillators it has placed.

In this episode, Frank speaks to Mr Chandrashekar about his work in breast cancer and how medicine, technology and proactive awareness are all helping patients beat this disease. The episode contains lots of helpful advice and signposting for anyone suffering from breast cancer or for anyone who knows someone who has it and wants to help.
Mr Chandrashekar is a Senior Consultant Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon working at Royal Liverpool University Hospital and has practice privileges at Spire Murrayfield and Spire Liverpool Hospital. He was one of the first surgeons to be trained in Oncoplastic Surgery on the National Oncoplastic training fellowship in 2002 and an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Clinical Sciences. He specialises in oncoplastic, reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery. He actively contributes to national and international clinical trials in breast cancer and oncoplastic surgery. He is an extremely busy practising clinician and offers cutting edge surgical treatment for patients with breast cancer.
