My podcast is Psalm 127 - A Man's PsalmJoin Pastor Bob for another Soul Soothing episode.
Psalm127 focuses on a man's world...in particular a man and his family. It's known as a wisdom Psalm because it was written by the wisest man who ever lived...Solomon. Solomon addresses the areas of a man's home, a man's community/city; a man's work, and a man's family (in particular, a man's sons)

In all these areas Solomon basically says they are all meaningless....UNLESS...the LORD is the center of them all

Solomon also wrote the Book of Ecclesiastes, concluding the Book with the same idea this Psalm conveys...God brings meaning and purpose to life. Solomon's words can be summed up this way:

God is the true source of meaning and purpose in life. Apart from Him, life is vanity/meaningless. Since life comes from Him, is a gift from Him, it, therefore, has meaning, purpose, and destiny.

The life man lives along with all he has is temporary. But the life God gives is eternal.

So live life with an eternal perspective and it will affect every area of the temporary.

Psalm 126 - A Prayer For Restoration

It's a Soul Soothing episode with Bob, and he is looking at Psalm 126, a prayer for restoration.

Psalms 120 - 134 are Psalms of Ascent...or songs the people of Israel sang as they journeyed to Jerusalem

There are sad songs... happy songs - and everything in between.
They are the songs of life,  depicting life's journey.

Today's Psalm is a song of mourning over was once experienced in the past.

Psalm 126 is also a prayer.  And in it we find a simple formula to craft our own prayers.

The formula is simple: Remember the Past...Believe for the Present

It is a simple prayer that will carry us through the ups and downs of life.

I Had An Idea

Have you ever had an idea but didn't realize how following through was going to effect others?

What were the motivations behind those ideas?

Did those ideas come with expectations of others?

Join Chris as he talks about some of his ideas throughout his marriage, how those ideas effected those he loves, and the expectations that he unwittingly put on others.

"Sometimes we put expectations on the ones we love to make us feel good so that we don't have to face whatever it is that is keeping us from feeling good".

Rock Solid Faith
It's another Soul Soothing episode with Bob! Join in as he discusses Psalm 125 - "The LORD Surrounds His People" - A song the people of God sang on their way to Jerusalem.

In a challenging, frightening, out of control world we all are looking for something, aren't we? Yes - PEACE.

Where does true peace come from? Deep rooted peace comes from rock solid faith.

Where God is - there is always hope. So, those who trust in the LORD live in peace. Not necessarily a peaceful world, but with an inner peace...
And inner peace comes from 3 truths which are embedded in Psalm 125 about the God who loves us:

  1. God Surrounds His People
  2. God Protects His People
  3. God Does Good To His People

Survivor's GuiltYou've heard Tina mention the diagnoses of cancer she received in 2020. She's talked about experiences in the hospital, healing from surgery, the scar she now has... but she doesn't really talk much about the diagnoses itself. And there's a reason for that.

Join today while Tina speaks for the first time about her personal experience with Survivor's Guilt. She vulnerably speaks about the complexity of co existing thoughts and feelings such as being grateful for her life AND feeling guilty because she's alive.
Tina walks us through the ways in which we see survivor's guilt manifest, and what she's trying to remember through her experience of it.

Tina says, "I'm just coming to grips with this now. So I don't have all the answers. I don't even know if I have all the questions, but I'm willing to start the conversation, here, with you".

How Do We Know God WILL Help Us?

Join Bob for a Soul Soothing episode as he looks at Psalm 124 Our Help is in the Name of the LORD - A Psalm of Thanksgiving for God's faithfulness when King David was attacked by his enemy

Have you ever had someone attack you for your faith?

As a pilgrim on this earth, we will find as we journey across time people will attack us for our faith in God

  • Can God help us? ABSOLUTELY!
  • WILL God help us? Well, that's where we can all falter a bit

So, how can we know God will help us? David shows us in this Psalm...

Reflect on your past - "If the LORD had not been on our side - let Israel say - if the LORD had not been on our side..."

Has God been there for me in the past? YES, YES, and YES!

The God of the past is the God of the present
The God who delivered is the God who delivers
The God who conquered is the God who conquers

How do I know God will help me? Because He HAS helped me.

He is on our side... Always has...always will be!

Managing Expectations vs Nurturing ExpectancyMany times our feelings of let-down, disappointment, anger, bitterness, sadness, frustration... - they are related to unmet expectations. Especially within our relationships with our partners.

How do we live a life of joy, happiness, and of feeling successful in our relationships when these feelings continue to show up, and because of unmet expectations?
-GREAT QUESTION!-

Today we look at how the expectations in our relationships are destroying what we could have, if we could only learn the difference between expectations, and expectancy. We focus on some specific expectations that are common in relationships, and use them as examples to see how we can shift our mindset and learn to manage the expectations and nurture the expectancy.

Join Pastor Bob as he takes us through Psalm 123 -A Grief Stricken Psalm, which he has entitled... Beggars Can't Be Losers

Psalm 123 is a lament, or mourning Psalm, but not as in grieving over a loved one who has died. It is grieving and mourning over being ridiculed and scorned for one's faith.

Ancient Israel experienced the same thing living in a society that scorned their God. So, they composed a song (Psalm) to remind themselves of the mercy of God, to sing as they made their way to Jerusalem.

It is a Psalm we can recite as well as we journey through this dark world that is opposed to God until we reach the "New Jerusalem".

3 lessons we can learn from this Psalm when ridiculed for our faith

  1. Where to Look for Help
  2. How to Look for Help
  3. Why to Look for Help

... Because: Beggars Can't Be Losers

Tune in for Chris' first solo episode, where he vulnerably talks about being a man, and addresses the following questions:

  • What does it mean to be a man?
  • What does "masculinity" look like?
  • What does society say we need to do, in order to be a man?

The world generally teaches us that big boys don’t cry, that they need to walk it off, man up, and ALWAYS be okay.  What can we do to change this?

Listen as Chris walks us through some of his life-experiences and shares how biases played a big role in his decisions... until he realized it was okay not to be okay...  even if he cried.

Our Unsleeping, Shielding, Eternal Guardian

It's another Soul Soothing Sunday with Pastor Bob! Today he looks at Psalm 121 - God, The Guardian Over My Life

In Psalm 120, David CALLS OUT to God for help
In Psalm 121, David LOOKS UP to God for help

Two truths evolve as we move from Psalm 120 to 121 and they are:

-Winning in life comes not from focusing on your circumstances but from focusing on God in and through your circumstancesAND
-We can call on God all we want but if we don't move from a place of calling onGod for help, to trusting inGod for help... we'll be stuck in anxiety and fear

God is always whispering to our hearts "Just Trust"

  • God is our help
  • God watches over us
  • God protects us

Both now and forevermore

Navigate Your Mission Like A Roomba

Food has an expiry date.  Medication has an expiry date.  Batteries, paint, car seats... lots of things have expiry dates!

Today we talk about something that has an expiry date, but it's one we often ignore -
Self-preservation, survival mode, safety mode.

We go into safety mode for protection.  Fear often brings us to that place.  And that's not a bad thing.  What we can't have though, is fear keeping us in that place.  It's where we ride out the storm, and rest if we can.  But it's not a place to set up house and live.

Learn more today about staying safe, and then getting back to the mission of living.

The De-Stressing Psalm

Join Pastor Bob for another Soul Soothing Sunday. Today he begins a series on Psalms 120 - 137, called the Psalms of Ascent. The series is entitled "UNTIL THEN..." and will focus on Psalms/songs sung by the Israelites as they journeyed yearly to Jerusalem to celebrate the 3 yearly feasts of Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles

Bob draws the comparison to our journey here on earth that, for believers, ends when we enter eternity and the New Jerusalem that awaits us.

Today's focus, Psalm 120 is The De-Stressing Psalm (not distressing) and it follows the Psalmist challenges of living in a cruel, lying, deceitful world where integrity and truthfulness is scarce. It is a dark world plagued with hatred, brutality and prejudice.

The Psalmist's de-stressing hope lies in verse 1; God is always near, hears our prayer and knows our plight living in a cruel world.

"No matter how bad it gets, God is with us and one day, one day this cruel world will pass away and we will enter the New Jerusalem"

Until then, sing of God's faithfulness.

Salt in the Wounds - Secondary WoundingSecondary wounding is the injury that happens after the trauma.  It’s the damage that is done by the people who were supposed to care, help, support, and provide for all the needs that the trauma left.

This might be our friends, family, clergy, counsellors, police, doctors, nurses, legal professionals, etc.  Anyone who is supposed to be helpful, has the potential to cause more harm, by the way they respond to someone’s trauma.

Today we talk about what Secondary Wounding is, how it happens, the avenues of receiving it, and what to do if you've hurt others in this way.

Too Many Hats? Here's Another One!Wow! Do we ever wear a lot of hats each day!

As we go about our lives, we change our hats frequently - to be who we need to be, and do what we need to do. It can be exhausting and sometimes, a bit confusing.
And as absurd as it is in all that, Tina, today proposes we add a new hat to our collection! What???

Listen in as Tina introduces the idea of a new term, for a new hat. She talks about this as being a combination of a couple roles, with the purpose of being who is needed, and doing what needs to be done... all for those we love and care for, no matter the relationship.

Just when you thought you had too many hats to wear... here comes Tina with another one!

Listen in today as Tina talks about our breaking point - the point where we can't handle one more thing. Tina discusses why it feels terrible to need extra care and support in a place where we think it is normal for others to need extra care and support. She also shares how our breaking point can actually be the place of breakthrough. Find out how!

Have a Word with YourselfAnyone with an inner dialogue, talks to themselves. Many of us argue with ourselves too. Crazy? Nah. It's normal. It's just conflicting thoughts and feelings happening at the same time. How does this happen? Well, we all have different parts and pieces of ourselves - and they all have different opinions.

Join Tina today as she talks about having a team meeting - with herself - and all the parts of who she is.

  • How do you facilitate such a thing as a team meeting with yourself?
  • How do you give them all a voice (especially when you don't like what some have to say)?
  • How do you keep order in a meeting like that?
  • What are the rules for a safe and constructive outcome?

We'll discuss this all and more as we learn how to Have a Word with Yourself

It's another Soul Soothing Sunday with Pastor Bob

Join in as Bob focusses on Acts 27:25, where Paul gets caught in a terrible storm for 14 days while on a ship heading to Rome... But an angel appears to him the night before the shipwreck to say he is going to make it to Rome

"So, keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as He told me"

Paul's courage came from a word from God and Paul realized and now teaches us that You can live above your circumstances even when you're stuck in the middle of them.

  • Question: So why didn't God save Paul from the storm like Jesus saved His disciples in Mark 4?
  • Answer: Sometimes the reason goes beyond what God wants to do FOR us - to what God wants to do IN us

As uncomfortable as it may be, the truth is this: Whether removing a storm or not removing the storm, GOD'S GOT US EITHER WAY!

You can live above your circumstances even when you're stuck in the middle of them because God's got you.

Playtime!Tina was a terrible sister (when she was little).  Hear a story that sounds awful, but is in fact accurate.  Poor Chris.  Poor Michael.  Who is Michael, you ask?  You'll want to listen to find out!

Today's episode talks about the importance of playtime in correlation with childhood development.  It's essential to having healthy, happier, less-stressed kids!
WHY though, do we forget how important playtime is as we get older?  Why aren't adults still having playtime?  We NEED to spend time being creative, with no other purpose but to have fun doing it!

Stop Asking, What Am I Going To Do?Crisis, challenge, change... any kind of transition - It jumps us into action, asking ourselves, "WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?"
But that's just us creating a chore list in the hopes of manifesting some relief. And to-do lists are never about real transformation.

SO, here the challenge: Stop Asking, What Am I Going To Do?Instead, we need to start asking ourselves: WHO DO I NEED TO BECOME?And in asking that question, what we NEED TO DO, will just happen - because of who we are.

Surely - that's a Promise!

It's another Soul Soothing Sunday episode with Pastor Bob, and today he is looking at the last verse of Psalm 23... verse 6:

"Surely Your goodness and faithfulness will pursue me all the days of my life and I will live in the Lord's house for the rest of my life"

Verse 6 is a PROMISE

It is a promise of God's goodness and faithfulness for today... And everyday, for the rest of my life.

He pursues me everyday to extend His goodness and faithfulness to me, and David frames this promise with one word Surely, meaning absolutely, without question and without failure!

God cannot be good if He is not faithful and God cannot be faithful and not be good...it is Who He is!

That is why David can say **The Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing

Difficult Doesn't Mean WrongLife is all about making decisions, and some of them are difficult.

When we make a decision that doesn't bring relief, does that mean it was the wrong choice?
When we choose an option and we feel terrible, does that mean we didn't do the right thing?

Join in today as we discuss how difficult it can be to make hard decisions, and how sometimes we don't feel "better" but it was still the right choice.

We'll look at examples of some of these times and situations, as well what to expect when we still don't feel good after a decision has been made, but we think it was the right choice.

Because sometimes we won't get the feeling of relief, so we aim for the feeling of peace in the decision.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year... Is DoneThe tree is losing it's needles.  The room is covered in crumpled, shredded wrapping paper.  The magic of Christmas is over!

But this happens all year long, doesn't it?  We have big moments and big days and then big let downs as the special magic fades.  This is normal... but we have to be careful not to see the ordinary as mundane.  We need to learn to see the magic in the ordinary, between the big moments and big days.

Today we talk about remembering that the real magic lives in the in-between.

Why Christmas? Love, Forgiveness, and Hope

Merry Christmas!

Today's Soul Soothing Sunday episode is looking at Luke 2: 1 - 7

Pastor Bob looks at the question, "Why Christmas?" and reveals the following answers:

  1. LOVE - John 3:16 - God's immeasurable love for humanity
  2. FORGIVENESS - Romans 6:23 - no Christmas equals no Easter "there must be a manger before there is a cross"
  3. HOPE - John 3:16 - "whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life"

Pastor Bob also discusses the quote "Jesus is the reason for the season" and invites us as listeners, to look at it another way.

As Pastor Bob wraps up the message, he invites listeners to pray with him, considering Christ as Saviour. If you pray this prayer, please reach out and let Bob know. He wants to keep you in his prayers too.

A repeat episode from last Christmas, because someone this year will be experiencing the same heaviness...

We've all heard the song "I'll Be Home For Christmas", but going home for the holidays is not really about a location. Is it? It is often about a person. It's about being with that special someone who feels like "home".

So what do we do when we can't go home for Christmas... because they just aren't there anymore?
How do we reckon with the reality of not having anywhere to go, especially when the whole world is focused on being HOME with our loved ones?

Join Tina as she talks about being a mama, without a mama... and not being able to go home for the holidays - not having that place to take her kids. Listen in as she describes the grief but also her answer to wondering, "Where do I go if I can't go home?"
The answer is also in the song..... "I'll BE Home for Christmas"

Blue Christmas

Christmas is not always about joy, cheer, and festive get-togethers.

Every year, someone is facing their first Christmas without someone they love. It may not even be the first Christmas after a loss. It may be the second, 12th, or 30th. The number of years don't matter as much as the very real pain does.

Join Tina as she speaks about experiencing the holiday season, while suffering with the reality that someone very special is just not here. She will speak about the validated thoughts and feeling that may very well be present, as well as the possible options for taking care of ourselves and protecting our hearts.

If you don't feel full of joy this Christmas, may you feel loved and cared for.

Re-releasing this episode from last Christmas, because it's such an important message.

SAD. Seasonal Affect Disorder

Where is the energy and motivation gone? And what's with these carb cravings? Sleep... never enough! Socializing? Nope. Not today thank you!

Are you starting to think you are actually a bear, and hibernation is the only answer? Well, there may be a perfectly good reason for thinking this.

Join in today as we talk about SAD, Seasonal Affect Disorder. We discuss what the symptoms look/feel like, diagnostic criteria a doctor would look for, as well as treatments that could be prescribed to help relieve some of the experiences of having SAD. We also look at the difference between the Winter Blues, and SAD.

Tina is not a wildlife biologist, so she can not say for certain that you are not a bear. She is not a physician either, so she always recommends seeing your doctor with any concerns you have regarding your health.

"Relax, I've Got This/That/Them!"

It's another Soul Soothing Sunday with Pastor Bob, and you don't want to miss this message from Psalm 23:5

"You prepare a feast before me in plain sight of my enemies. You refresh my head with oil; my cup is completely full."

The passage is about the Protection of God, and it shows us that:

  • God doesn't want to expose David (us) to his enemies
  • God wants to reveal Himself to David's (our) enemies!

We learn that it isn't about David (us) being unsafe in the presence of enemies.
It's about David's (our) enemies not being safe in the presence of our God!

It's like God is saying to David (us) "Relax, I've got this/that/them!"

It's a Man! 68 Inches. 155 Pounds

You’ve been working on you for a long time. You’ve been eating up everything you can that will help you grow and now you just don’t belong anymore, where you had been being nurtured.

Because just like a baby, before they are born, you’ve been fed and continued developing who you are... and what was a safe place to grow, is now too small to keep you. And you find yourself with almost this force behind you, feeling like you’re being pushed from one realm, into the next.

You cannot keep growing in who you are… AND stay where you are.

Everything we grow through in life pushes us into a new version of ourselves. If we keep moving forward through it all, we will end up being born again, and again, and again!

Right Enough to be WrongWhat does it feel like to be wrong?  Well, in all honesty, it actually feels a lot like being right.  We don't feel wrong until we RECOGNIZE we are wrong... and that comes with some heaviness - and follows with some predictive actions too.

Today, we look at where this fear of being wrong comes from, why we often insist that we are right, and how we handle it when others don't agree with us.

Thank-you, MidbrainToday we look at a few questions...

  1. Why is it that some people who are quite intelligent, cannot seem to get organized and get things done?
  2. Why is it that some people who are highly motivated, seem to self-sabotage?
  3. Why is it that some people take all the training in the world, just to make the same amount of money and stay in the same roles within their professional life?

Could this be something more than just not knowing how to pull off these skills of getting their life together and making it work to their advantage?

Let's find out what our brain has to do with it!  Today... on Life's Seasons Speaks!

Perfection or RejectionResearch tells us that we need to stop trying to avoid failure, and embrace it as something necessary for growth.  But that is hard to do in a society that SHAMES us for the mistakes we make.  We are now part of a world that doesn't accept apologies... instead, it calls for our resignation.

Let's talk today about living in an age that teaches us - It's Perfection or Rejection!

I Will Not Take Off My FlipflopsSo many of us are going kicking and screaming into Fall, and so reluctant to say good bye to summer... that we refuse to take off our flipflops! We aren't ready.

This can happen as we go in and out of seasons within our lives too. We don't want to say good bye to the seasons we are in. We don't want to have to experience the season that is coming. But it can't be stopped.

Listen in today as we specifically look at how the interaction between a tree and it's leaves can teach us what we need to know about the transitions we face in our journeys in life.

Waters and Green Pastures

Empty Enough

Today we talk about the feeling of being empty.
You know the feeling.  It's like being depressed but not quite.  It feels like it includes sadness but it's more than that.  It's tired, yes, but not just in the way of needing rest.  There is no motivation, creativity, ideas, drive...  Nothing.  Just empty.

Join in with today's episode as Tina discusses this topic of being "empty" in a whole new light.  Is empty just a negative experience?  Or could it be a place from which something new can emerge.  Could this be the birth place of hope?  If this is possible, how does that work?  What does that look like?

Tune in and we'll find out.

Climb OutDo you feel like you've been labelled, or "put" somewhere that you don't want to be?  Did a teacher tell you that you wouldn't become anything great?  Did a partner leave you a mess?  Did certain experiences place you into a life you aren't comfortable with?

Let's learn from a specific toddler who refused to stay where he was put... CLIMB OUT.

Sometimes we can feel like we've been put in a crib, behind a gate, inside a fence... but like a toddler Tina raised, we can refuse to stay there.  We can CLIMB OUT!

Join today and listen in as Tina talks about refusing to stay somewhere we no longer want to be.

Exhausted Yet Still In PursuitThere is an "exhaustion" that requires resting, relaxing and unwinding to restore us.
But there is also an "exhaustion" that happens when we are pursuing what is  ahead.  That is a season where we endure because we are in pursuit of the next season.

Join Tina today as she talks about what it is to be Exhausted Yet Still In Pursuit.  What does that look like?  What does that feel like?  How do we know if we are to keep going... or rest?

We'll find all this out and more, today, on Life's Seasons Speaks.

Irritated out of ComplacencyComplacency... isn't that irresponsible laziness?  Well, not entirely.

Tune in today and have a listen as Tina talks about complacency - what it is, what it isn't, how to tell if you or someone in your life is complacent, AND how to allow irritation to change it.
Tina also talks about the difference between being at peace and being complacent, while sharing the questions we can ask ourselves to know which is which.

The Lord IS my ShepherdIt's another Soul Soothing Sunday with Pastor Bob!

Are you able to declare, like David, that "God is enough" … for anything and everything?

  1. God is ALWAYS present - ALWAYS near
  2. God is ENOUGH - ALWAYS enough

Let it be our prayer that we would confidently say, "The Lord IS my Shepherd... I Lack NOTHING

How?  Listen and find out.  If you're feeling like you have nothing left to lose, you can't afford to miss this episode.

Being ChildishWhen did the word "childish" become negative?  Doesn't a part of you long to go back to such an authentic way of being?  To cry when you are sad, be upset when you are angry, laugh when you are amused, and to run  when you have somewhere to go???

Your inner child is waiting for you to have a playdate!  You know your inner child - it's you... before IT happened.  It's who you were before you ever became wounded.  And "little you" is still there waiting for you to go back for them - to cry again, be upset, laugh, and to run!

Today we talk about our inner child - finding them, nurturing them, and learning from them... all the things we used to know! CONNECT THROUGH FACEBOOKhttps://www.facebook.com/lifesseasonsspeaks

No Regrets? Really?Join Tina as she has a full circle moment from thinking she had “No Regrets” (because it was all part of who she's become today, right?) to realizing, actually, she has regrets - daily… and perhaps this isn’t entirely awful.  Perhaps, regret is an important emotion to feel after all…

And after discussing how important it is, and in which ways regret aims to serve us... she is still all too aware of the heaviness that it brings with it.  Why? Why, if it’s important, does it feel so heavy to experience this feeling of regret?

Don't Quit.  Grow.Strength training is hard on the body.  You push and you pull against resistance as you sweat and feel your muscles stretch uncomfortably.
Life feels much the same sometimes.  But that's how you grow.

It's not about looking on the bright side or looking for the silver lining.  It's about not quitting.  It's about knowing you are uncomfortable but you will not stop now.  You'll give it another day.  And that's how you grow.  You won't be able to stop that growth.  It's quit or grow.

Stuck in the Mud
Feeling sad or disappointed about something that has happened is normal.  In fact, it's healthy.  But being sad is different than having and stating self-defeating statements that undermine our ability to deal with the situation.  It may feel good in the moment... but at the end of the day, we're just hosting a pity party, and inviting all the phrases that validate this,  to come and be entertained.

Having a pity party is like being stuck in the mud - spinning tires and getting nowhere.  It costs us time, energy, and confidence.

How do we get stuck in the mud?  And does anyone have a tow rope?

Good or Bad. Hard to Say. We'll SeeAs we continue to look at our stories and the importance of having them, sharing them, and listening to them being told by others, today we look at our inclination to make judgements as to whether a story is GOOD or BAD. And we don't mean the abilities of a storyteller to keep us engaged. We mean the plot. The content. The story itself.

Listen in as Tina explains that labelling stories as "GOOD" or "BAD" really just makes for an incomplete story. Tina shares a few pages from her own life and takes us on a journey through some good and some bad as an example of how fluid life is - too fluid to label … and certainly not concrete enough to label as the END of the story.

This is a special episode for her boys and their dad.

What's Your COVID Story? Many of us remember where we were and what we were doing the day the twin towers were hit. We can recall many thoughts and emotions as well. It's part of our 9-11 story.

Here we are now in 2022, with a COVID story... that continues writing on our pages. Many of us will have stories that include suffering in our mental health. But we don't tell those stories, do we? Can we? Should we?

Today we talk about the importance of our stories... particularly if they include mental illness. We talk about how it isn't essential that we tell everyone our story. We don't owe everyone our story. The question isn't "are you telling EVERYONE about your story?" The question is "are you telling ANYONE about your story?"

Because your story matters. You matter. Let's look at why we don't share, how we could share, AND how we can be listeners too.

What A Blind Man Saw While He Was Sitting By The RoadIt's Not What You Look At That Matters; It's What You See

Join in for another Soul Soothing Sunday and listen as Pastor Bob looks at Luke 18:35-42.  Within this passage, Bob pulls apart the importance of what was seen throughout.  He looks at:

  • What A Blind Man Saw
  • What A Crowd Saw
  • What Jesus Saw

From there, Bob then goes into the healing of the blind man.  How was he healed?

Sure, physically... but it was more than his eyes.

-It was also spiritual
-And emotional
-And social

… And it even touched a crowd

Jesus is into the whole of a person and not just one part  And we can be too  We can bring healing to people we take time to notice and be present with.

Belonging Through Being ClaimedReal belonging is knowing that someone has CLAIMED you.

When we look up the word claim and check out the meanings associated with it...

· a demand or request for something considered one's due.

We have the RIGHT to belong. It is not earned. And we can’t lose the right to be claimed either. It was not just a NEED we were born with. It was a human right to belong - to be a part of a family, a community, society that all become caregivers.

Another meaning given regarding the word claim is:

· an assertion of the truth of something; that it is the case, and typically without providing evidence or proof.

So put that into context of being claimed and belonging. Again, it shows that there is no requirement of earning it. Because there is no need for proof. You don’t have to produce a shred of evidence.

What happens when we don't feel like we belong? How does that impact our ability to connect in relationship? What can we do about it?

HappinessHow do we handle helping someone who makes decisions that we wouldn't make for ourselves?  What if our loved ones choose things for their lives that we wouldn't have chosen for ours?
Aren't we all just trying to make decisions that will make us happy?

Writing Our Wrongs

How many of us have memories of our younger selves experiencing situations, and handling them WRONG? My guess is that it is more than a few of us. We tend to think back on our past, and judge ourselves harshly for how we responded or didn't respond in a particular circumstance. We judge a younger version of ourselves, against what we know now. And that isn't fair.
Today, we look at a technique used to help our present day selves, reckon with a younger version of ourselves, in a loving, kind, compassionate, and understanding way. Listen in as we discuss a style of letter writing designed to bring the past and the present together in a unified devotion of who we were and who we are now.
It's an emotional letter of acknowledgment, validation, appreciation, forgiveness, and reassurance... as we set out, Writing Our Wrongs.

Are You Feeling Your Feelings?Of course we can all mention times when we were irritated or nervous or overjoyed or overwhelmed... But did we really FEEL it? Or did we "sense" it and act quickly to distract, shut down, and ignore it? Well, lets think of what we did when the feelings came - Another glass of wine? Few cookies? Online shopping spree? Another nap? The possibilities are endless, because we are so good at NOT feeling our feelings.

Today we talk about a specific way to allow for our feelings - - - to honor their existence. Because they don't go away when we work to ignore them. They wait for their next opportunity. In today's episode, we discuss how to Name, Explain, and Sit with our feelings so they feel like they've had their 15 minutes of fame. That's all they want - acknowledgment. Not even to be fixed. Just to be seen and heard. Tune in to hear about giving the stage to your feelings, letting them shine, and then letting them make their own exit.

Four Words to Change the WorldIt's getting warmer out! Soon we will be at the beach... and kids will be building sandcastles! And inevitably, those sandcastles will be destroyed by another wild child running through them, kicking sand everywhere. And that's a normal beach experience. But so are all the big emotions that come for our kids in that situation - and a million other situations.
How do we handle our kid's big emotions? How do we respond? What happens to our children when we don't respond well... and what does that do to us as adults when we were never taught to HAVE, FEEL, or SHARE our big emotions?
Childhood mental health lays a foundation for adult mental health.
Listen today as we discuss ways to help our kids HAVE, FEEL, and SHARE their big emotions, so they know how to as adults. It's easier than you think. It's four words. Four words that could change their world... Four words to change the world.

Truth Will Always Kill the LiesMotivational episode opens with some of the common lies we hear in our minds day after day. Together we normalize and validate the fact that these lies, or similar ones are going to keep coming. We don't need to figure out how to shut them down... because they will always return in one way or another.

"Sometimes, we just need to know how to reply. We don’t ignore these lies. We talk back. That’s right. Sometimes we aren’t to be polite and passive. Sometimes we need to talk back. Be mouthy. Get assertive and maybe even a bit aggressive.
This is your mind you are fighting for.
This is your heart you are fighting for.
This is your body you are standing up for and protecting.
These are your hopes, dreams, opportunities, chances, and possibilities you are fighting to protect and nourish.
No lie gets to come in here and bully your hope into fading out. "

I love you - Now get outta my yardToday we are talking about boundaries! And believe it or not, "boundaries" is not a bad word! So why are we so uncomfortable when we hear the word being used??? I think for the most part, it's because we aren't exactly clear on what boundaries are, or are not. We aren't sure when to use them, how to use them, or why to use them.

Join in today as we look at boundaries through an illustration that helps us see how empowered we can be in our own lives and our relationships, once we understand the concept and importance of healthy boundaries.

From surveying our land, to building fences, gates and gardening... we sort out the basics of boundaries in an unforgettable way!

Can We Be Friends With Guilt? How many of us say "YES" to way more than we should, just to avoid the feeling of guilt that comes from saying "NO"?  Probably quite a few of us.
What if guilt wasn't always a bad thing to feel?  Even if it's uncomfortable.  What if it wasn't something to avoid in every situation?
What if we became friends with guilt?
Join in today as we look at the reason why we used to say yes, vs why we say yes now, and how it ties into needing to get along with guilt as our friend.
It will makes sense as we go - I promise!

Get Ready....GO

Motivational "get up" message.

Our alarm clocks are going to keep going off day after day.  We can make excuses or we can get up.  We keep saying things like "I'm not ready" but some days we just HAVE TO BE,  no matter what - but if we insist on saying "I'm not ready", we better be clear on what we aren't ready for - this message will help lay that out.  And we've got to get this figured out so we can get ready... and GO

Soul Soothing Sunday Episode

Psalm 46 - God Is

Psalm 46 is all about the faithfulness of God in light of chaotic worldly events

The basic premise of the Psalm is:

Sometimes God calms the storm around us
But sometimes God let's the storm rage on and calms His children

It is to encourage and comfort us that God is in control

God does not always take away the trouble
But God is always with us through the trouble

A journey is to travel from one place to the next. I've been allowed to have a journey in my life. My kids are allowed to have one too. We all are. A journey lasts a lifetime.

What we look for on our journey matters though. We are going to encounter problems. We are going to go through really tough parts in our journey. Whether we are problem-focused or solution-focused will matter greatly!

Join in today as we talk about what it means to be solution focused, and what to watch for as we journey through problems towards our goals.

What's Your Horse Called?Do you keep hopping on the back of something that takes you in a direction you weren't necessarily looking to go? Or does it stop you from going somewhere you wish to go?

Do you possibly have a horse called fear?

Fear has it's own agenda when it comes to keeping us safe, and keeping us comfortable. But fear is not great at knowing the difference between DANGER and CHALLENGE.

Today we talk about the wiring within our amygdala (Amy) and how this region of the brain senses danger (or challenge) and causes us to feel fear - to keep us safe (and sometimes hold us back).

How do we stay safe but still get to experience life??? Listen, and let's find out! CONNECT WITH JENNY and TINA THROUGH FACEBOOKhttps://www.facebook.com/lifesseasonsspeaks

Tina's mom had a phrase that she loved to say, and she said it often.  "Everyone Matters" could be heard from her at any time, in any circumstance.  But it was not just a phrase to her.  She lived it out in her daily life, everyday.

Join in today as Tina takes this phrase and applies it to her own understanding of what this could really look like, symbolically, and tangibly.

In a twist of experiences, Tina talks about puzzles, the planet's population, and white wooden crosses... and how they all keep driving home this phrase and the truth behind it...

Everyone Matters!

My Sister-In-Law Is OldTina has her sister-in-law on the show today, and it's her birthday.  Michelle is 45 and feeling really old this year.  It's actually Tina's birthday too!  She is also 45.  But she is not experiencing the same feelings... WHY?

Join in and listen as Michelle and Tina discuss turning 45 and having such different feelings about it.  They talk about perspectives that are quite similar as well as those that differ due to life experiences thus far in life.

They hit on some deep subjects, but do a lot of laughing too, as they take inventory of what turning 45 means to them, and why.

Don't miss it!

What if Pleasure is the Purpose?I think we often tend to believe that carrying out a "purpose" must hold an element of executing an important job within it - responsibility and management and duty and cause and labor and effort and exertion.   But in today's short and simple thought, Tina shares a conversation with God, where he challenged this way of thinking.

What if pleasure is the purpose?  Is that a thing?  Is that ok?  What does God think of that?

Have we been missing out on some of the pleasures within his grand design?

Hope.  More Than A Feeling
Hope is the belief that your future will be better than today, and that you have the power to make it so. That doesn't sound like a feeling.  That sounds more like a way of thinking.  It sounds like there may be a way to make a plan and forge a path towards this "better tomorrow".  So, can our thoughts impact our capacity for hope?  How does that work?  What does that look like?  Does trauma bear any weight on our ability to have hope?  How so?

Join us today as we look at the whole concept of hope, and the importance of having it, using it, and sharing it.

Band Aids on Bullet HolesPhysically speaking, sometimes we have an injury that requires special treatment – maybe surgery or physio… something that will hurt to endure, but it’s an important part of the proper healing process. It’s something that is necessary and for the greater good in the long run.

Well, what if we don’t do it? What if we decide that we don’t have time for the suggested surgery, or that we just don’t want the extra discomfort of physio, so we don’t go through with it?

This scenario happens with our hearts too. We can have an injury to our heart that happened years ago. An injury that required surgery and maybe a follow up with physio to help repair it properly.

Let's talk today about how to go back and really assess that injury, and heal it properly - not just compensate for the pain we carry daily. Let’s acknowledge the hurt and give it a space and a voice in our story. To heal, to dispel false guilt, to learn from our mistakes, to kill shame, and to live free. We deserve it!

Getting Offended vs Being Offended

Let’s get rid of the notion right now that healthy, mature, strong people do not get offended. Because they do. It’s unavoidable. No one is exempt. So, if it is normal, and if it is going to continue happening, why aren’t we talking about it more? It kind of seems important to understand that there is no failure in getting offended, AND there has got to be something more we can do with it rather than just be hurt.

We can’t escape it, so we need to know how to deal with it.

But listen carefully, this is really important. There is a distinct difference between getting offended and being offended - and that is where our power lies. We cannot avoid getting offended, but we have a powerful choice over accepting, allowing, settling into, and carrying offence .

Let's sort all this out together, today!

ConnectingDo you know that we are wired for connection?  That is to say that we are literally created to have connection with others in this world.  If we were hooked up to a brain scan, you would actually see the reward centers of our brain light up when we are connecting with others.  It’s that important to us.  It is that engrained into our DNA, to connect with others.  Genetically, our DNA is predisposed to connect; to find someone we care about and who cares for us.

Then, why are so many of us lonely? Do we just not know how to connect? Are we unsure of what steps to take to really connect with someone else?
Join us today as we look at the A, B, Cs of connection...

  • A - Awareness and Acceptance
  • B - Build a Bridge
  • C - Courageous Conversations with Curiosity

And let's break it down into something very straightforward!

Jephthah - Prepped for Battle

" Mighty Man of Valor"... what a way to be described and remembered! He must have been someone very special, born to wonderfully loving parents, and raised in the ways of the Lord. After all, he led and won a battle to save the people who needed him, and he presided over them as a judge for years. A special man indeed!

But what if I told you his early years were horrible? He was unwanted, unloved, and rejected and abandoned - over and over again. Were those years he needed to overcome so that the Lord could use him? OR were they years as preparation for the battle that was to come?

If you've ever felt that you were born into a family so full of pain, that you couldn't possibly have any destiny other than to try and survive and maybe overcome, then this message is for you.

Today we are going to look at what it really means to be a good listener and how to put it to the test.   We will discuss what listening is and what it isn't as far as responses, reactions, statements, and intentions.
We might even hear about a situation where Tina was NOT a good listener!

From last week's show on talking, to today's episode on listening, we set the stage for next Wednesday's release on connection.  Don't miss any of them!

Let's Talk About TalkingWe must learn to talk!
So today, we will talk about talking... and not just to fill the awkward silence in a room, but to really articulating our thoughts and feelings.  Because sometimes our thoughts and feelings sound like "I'm worthless, I'm a bad person, I'm not worthy of love".  While these may not be facts, they may have become truths inside us - that no one knows about, and no one can help us with BECAUSE WE HAVEN'T TALKED ABOUT IT.
We have a right to feel what we feel.  We also have the right to talk about it.
So, lets start today! CONNECT WITH JENNY and TINA THROUGH FACEBOOKhttps://www.facebook.com/lifesseasonsspeaks

The Gift of ForgivenessAs the gift-giving season wraps up, and we move into the new year full of new challenges, we discuss the gift of forgivenessand what is has to offer us.

What exactly is forgiveness and how do you do it? Those are important questions.
But perhaps the most important question to ask first is WHY? Why forgive?

Listen in as we pull apart the topic of forgiveness to gain a clearer understanding of the what, how, and why, in it all.

Forgiveness can be a hard journey that feels like it will cost too much, but can you actually afford not to? It's not about what you should or shouldn't do. The power of the choice to forgive or not to, is all yours.

I'll NEVER... get divorced, have depression, speak to my kids like that, get cancer, have a kid with an addiction...
Sometimes we state NEVER as a hope, a dream, a wish and then what we said would never happen - happens.  And that messes with our understanding of the word NEVER, especially when we hear God say "I will NEVER leave you nor forsake you" (Deuteronomy 31:6).  How is that statement to be trusted when I have stated it before, and it failed?

Listen in as Tina shares a little story of talking with God about this concept of "NEVER".  There is a distinct difference in knowing whether it is a hope OR a promise.  What is that difference?

As you heard from Tina last week, this may not be a time of joy that you are preparing for this season. Perhaps, as Jenny's family is, you are going to be experiencing a tougher Christmas this year. Maybe you are grieving as it is the first Christmas after a loss. Maybe it’s the 12th or 20th Christmas without your loved one. No matter the timing, your grief matters.

So, we are not here to wish you a Happy Holidays. We are here to say that we pray for you, a season with love and care and support. You deserve to know that you are loved and cared for, no matter what your heart feels from moment to moment. We pray that you are safe and held close by all who love you.

We are not going to be releasing regular weekly episodes throughout the season, but we will be back in the new year.

That doesn’t mean there won’t be something special released. It just won’t be our regular weekly, topical conversations. I know Tina has a couple things planned, so watch for those. But make sure your focus this seasons is on you, what you need, and how you need to be cared for. Take care of your heart. Take care of your health… and take care of each other.

You are a blessing to this world, and this world is a better place because you are in it.

Train Up A ChildIt's another Soul Soothing Sunday!
Proverbs 22:6 says, Train up a child in the way he should go, andwhen he is old, he will not depart from it. Often we read this verse adding emphasis in this way: Train up a child in the way he SHOULD go, andwhen he is old, he will not depart from it.What if we read it like this... Train up a child in the way HE should go, andwhen he is old, he will not depart from it.Our kids are not ours to mold into a future we choose for them. If we truly believe that God is the potter, then what are we molding? God already has a purpose for our children. Our privilege and responsibility as their parents is to help our kids be mold-able. We help them to be good, pliable, workable clay. But we are not shaping their future. We give them back to the artist for that. He has prepped them already with talents and interests and passions. Those are ours to watch for, help develop, and celebrate.

Private Logic... how the experience of trauma impacts the way we THINK AND FEEL ABOUT OURSELVES, OTHERS, AND THE WORLD WE LIVE IN.Trauma can disfigure and distort the way we see and feel about ourselves, others, and the world we live in. And this is so important to understand because we have got to stop deciding we know people, including ourselves, based on the impact that trauma has had on us.

Every day, we make judgements and opinions about others, as well as ourselves, and even the world we live in. But we are making judgments and forming opinions based on our observations of how people present. We are also doing it based on how we think and feel. And how we think and feel, and how others present, is often a mirror of what we, and they, have been through.

Understanding private logic is so essential to knowing who we are, who others are, what all our needs are... and how to meet them!

Listen in as Tina shares an amazing story of walking through private logic and needs with her daughter. Crisis to compassion to hope!

Resiliency is the bounce back after a traumatic event... but let's be VERY CLEAR - this is NOT the same as "getting over it”.
The truth is, you may never "get over" what happened to you.  And that's ok.  That's not a failure or a weakness.  That's not even the goal.  The meaning behind the bounce back, is about your ability to have good, positive, healthy experiences in your future, even though something very tough has happened in your past.

Join us today to hear all about the "bounce back".

Saying Yes to GodDoes having faith and trying to make sense of loss have to be on opposite ends of the spectrum?  Does it have to be one OR the other?

What does it really mean to say YES to God?  What does it mean to have the faith to say YES to what we see God doing, and say it BEYOND what we can see God doing?

And is it possible to lose the YES, or even say YES in grief?

Listen in as Jenny and Tina talk about a journey where faith was so abundant and strong.  They believed for healing miracles... and then there was a death.
Did this change the YES?

Intrusive Thoughts - The Repeat OffendersToday we are looking at, and pulling apart what it means when we say:

Lies are the narratives in our head, of the fears in our heart.Does anyone else feel like their head can tell them things about themselves, that just aren't true, but is quite hurtful and damaging? Do you wonder where these thoughts are coming from? Could it be that they are coming from what your heart is scared of?

What if you've been aware of this - that your heart has fears and that your head can lie to you about them? What if you've been working on this but it just keeps happening?

Maybe you aren't working hard enough? Maybe you are doing it wrong?

Self Harm - Insights Through ExperienceToday could be very sensitive for some people, so please remember that we really care about you and your well-being. If there is any way that the topic of self-harm could cause you any distress, please skip this episode. The number of episodes we put out and the number of downloads we get, mean very little to us in comparison to your experience with us being a positive one that always feels safe. Please take care this week and decide not to listen if there is any way this topic could cause you any harm.

What we will be doing today, is discussing the topic of self-harm and how it relates professionally but also personally for Tina, who spent over 20 years in self-harm, specifically cutting. She will share details about thoughts, feelings, and the act itself.

If you have struggled with self harm, this episode may be too hard to listen to. If you love someone who self harms and have wanted to know more, this may be very helpful.

Please listen with great discretion.

I'm a Big Deal! Can you say that you're a big deal? We hope so. We believe that you are a big deal... no bigger than anyone else, but no than less anyone else either.

But what if you've made terrible mistakes in your past? What if these mistakes created consequences that hurt others as well? Could you still say you are a Big Deal then? Or would that feel too shameful to identify with?

Join in as Tina shares an experience where a choice she made created pain, shame, and defeat as a mom... and confusion for her child. Listen as Jenny and Tina talk out the experience from living in the guilt, to finding healing, and moving into being a Big Deal - and raising a Big Deal too!

When The Plan Falls Apart, But The Dream Remains
While Jenny is away on vacation, Tina and Chris sit down to discuss a difficult time where tough decisions had to be made, in the face of a plan that had completely fallen apart.

Chris, Tina's brother, talks about his plan to complete college, join the Life's Seasons family, and work alongside their mom, Annette. It was a great plan. It would be a dream come true for all of them. So what happened when their mom passed away half way through college? Does the plan proceed? How? Nothing would be the same now.

Join in as Chris and Tina vulnerably look at what it took to make the decisions that were made, and what was behind the ability to make them.

That's My Chaga BabyIn May of 2020, surgery left a significant scar across Tina's neck.   She's been asked about using creams and having cosmetic correctional surgery - anything to minimize the appearance of such a horrific sight!  But she's ok with the scar... and of course it was a lesson learned from a tree.
Listen in to see what Jenny and Tina discuss about scars, injuries, and CHAGA!

He Showed Me A Dead TreeTina's favorite tree is dead, but she won't let anyone cut it down.  It seems useless, "past the point of beauty and producing",.. but is it?

Join Jenny and Tina as they discuss some impactful lessons learned from a dead tree... a dead tree that just happens to become the foundation of something beautiful - every spring.

Do you feel like there are areas in your life that have lost beauty, purpose, vision, production?  Does that part of your life seem useless now?  Or could it be the foundation on which new growth can climb and be sustained?

What could you learn from a dead tree?

Just Don't Try And Measure Your NeighborWhat we decide is worth measuring in life, is where we find what we believe to be valuable... whether we like the results or not. But we can’t measure our neighbor. This was the statement Jenny and Tina were building off of when deciding how to navigate this episode. And then something happened... what they ended up with was a written piece.

Listen in as Jenny and Tina read a word-for-word written script, while still remaining committed to being open and honest and vulnerable in their thoughts and how they share them.

  • What do you think is worth measuring?
  • Is the value of the measurement for your life only, or should we all be trying to reach a specific goal in certain areas?
  • Is it appropriate to measure something in your neighbor, to see if they are adding up? Surprisingly, we say yes! Listen to hear what that could be.

7 Rules for Life... 7 QuotesThere are so many great quotes out there, that offer valuable perspective, encouragement, and motivation.  But what do they do for those who have been so hurt in life and are struggling to see their ability to act, think, and feel as the quotes may suggest they should?

Does that mean they are failing, if they just cant live up to the quote?

Join Jenny and Tina and they pull apart some popular quotes and point out the pieces that can cause more hurt and harm, than encouragement and motivation, to those who have been through trauma and difficult seasons.

But I Don't Want To Be Needy
Many of us have a fear of appearing "needy", but there is great value in being able to admit we have need, even if we have survived a long time without that need being met.

Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46-52), lived his life, begging by the roadside. He was blind and recognized his "need" for others to help him survive within the basics of life. But then someone walked by who could meet a need that no one else could. Bartimaeus would have to admit his need and ask for his sight. But that wasn't hard for him to do, always having recognized he needed, AND DESERVED to have these needs met.

Join Jenny and Tina as they go through this scripture and look at the value of recognizing and admitting need, while remaining clear about the difference between that intention, and appearing "NEEDY".

Your Role Is My Responsibility
How many of us believed that we would one day find "our person", who would meet our every need? And then became disappointed because THEY DO NOT meet all our needs.
Well, we're sorry to break it to you, but that person DOES NOT EXIST, and it's actually unfair to expect so much from any one person.

Different people have different roles in our lives, and will meet different needs within us. It is actually our job and our responsibility to make sure we have the right people in the right roles. Otherwise, we set them up to fail, and then to feel our disappointment - and again, that's just not fair.

Join us as we look at the topic of assigning the right people to the right roles within our lives, for heathy relationships, boundaries, expectations, and connection.

Use Your Judgment... But Don't Be JudgmentalIs being judgmental wrong?  That's what we are taught.

But if it is, how do we protect ourselves and our loved ones?  Doesn't that require making a judgment?  And in those situations, are we not told to trust our gut, to trust ourselves and make a judgment call?

So which is it???  Good or bad?  Right or wrong?
Is there a way to make a judgement, without being judgmental?Join Jenny and Tina as they pick apart the words, the meanings, and the ideas behind being "Judgmental".

How vulnerable would you feel if you were asked the question:
"Do you care what people think of you?"
Would you be afraid to say yes, because we are often pressured to NOT CARE?
Or would you be afraid to say no, because that's not the absolute truth?

Join Jenny and Tina as they pick apart this whole idea of caring what people think of us.
Is it better to care or not care? Is there a healthy balance somewhere in-between?
And if so... HOW? What in the world would that look like?

SOOOO many questions to sort through, all in finding our own truths in another topic as we continue to journey the seasons of our lives.

Let's tackle and talk about another topic together... Because some of the seasons in our lives can be heavy - So instead of just carrying them, we've decided to speak.

In today's episode, Jenny and Tina  talk about why some of us are feeling "out of sorts" with what we used to have a real drive for.  They look at what it really means to have a passion for what you feel is your purpose in life, and how to look at experiences of failure or falling while living out your purpose.

Soul Soothing Sunday -Bonus Episode Faith-Based

Exactly one year and two days after the passing of her mom, Tina was asked to speak at Lakeshore Community Church, Bright's Grove, ON., Canada. She wasn't sure she'd be able to do it. She wasn't sure if she would have enough, or be enough, to share the previous year's journey so close to the anniversary.
On this episode, Jenny and Tina sit to discuss that message, and share the details of how their counselling agency family was feeling deep grief, but also deep concern for their client's needs and how much they deserved to be cared for as well.
How do you give, when you have nothing? How do you feed the hungry, when you have so little to eat yourselves?
