They take pleasure in the rural feel of the community, which is conveniently located near shopping, restaurants, medical offices, and more.
Mennowood is a non-profit, non-denominational retirement community founded in 1985 by the local Mennonite community.
The Reflections Memory Care Program offers a fresh perspective on memory care. Specialized training, careful selection of caregivers, resident-focused approach are hallmarks of the Reflections program. On this episode of We Are Living Healthy, Dennis Southers, Prevention Supervisor and Vivian Alibah, Educator II, inform us about the very important subjects of Opioid Prevention and Treatment Recovery.
The City Of Virginia Beach has funds that will be used to address the opioid epidemic that is claiming lives across the country and, sadly, right here in our city. According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, from 2015 to 2016, opioid overdoses increased by more than 150 percent and the number of deaths nearly doubled.
REVIVE! is Virginia's Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education (One) program, helping people learn how to recognize and respond to opioid overdose emergencies by administering naloxone, a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. Medical experience is helpful but not necessary.

It comes down to science. Fat cells freeze at higher temperatures than surrounding tissues. CoolSculpting Elite technology safely delivers precisely controlled cooling to gently and effectively target the fat cells underneath the skin. The treated fat cells are crystallized
(frozen), and then die. Over time, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these
dead cells, leaving a more sculpted you.
Today Alexis has the chance to speak with Jess, from Coolsculpting and learn more about
the new technology for fat reduction.
1.What is coolsculpting?
2.What is Evoke?
4.What is Evolve?
5.How does it work? And how long is each session?
6.Are they any side effects?

Just several years ago, as a single mom, Alexis was bringing home less than 18k a year. She was able to start and build multiple businesses. She is excited to share the good news that “It Takes Money to Make Money” is not the gospel truth. Personally I have coordinated events with over 2000 attendees, owned a fitness studio, traveled the world while getting paid to do
what she loves, and launched a successful training program and online business.
On this episode of We Are LIving Healthy, our beautiful host shares with all of you great
tips for new exercises while you are busy at home or at your office.
Tips from Alexis:
-How do we find motivation to workout at home?
-What's some advice for someone looking to get started?
-Can we do these 3 exercises in any office environment?
-Exercises utilize strength building, resistance training, coordination and balance—is this all done while seated?

Several years ago Brittany Fuisz tried every auto-immune protocol and eliminated major allergens like dairy, nuts, gluten, and soy from her diet. She found that many milk alternatives did not suit her strict diet and had the idea to create milk from flaxseed—and Malibu Mylk was born. Not only was the flax milk allergen-free, she also found it had a fantastic texture due to the fact that flax is a natural emulsifier. As if that wasn't enough, she also found it was packed full of nutrients, especially compared to other milks. Brittany is excited to share Malibu Mylk with the world and listeners today, knowing this incredible product has helped her feel her absolute best and will help you feel your best, too.

Thanksgiving is a great time to share with your family and your loved ones, and eating very good food is the best part of the holiday. But we don't have to eat unhealthy food during the holidays.
What are 3 ways a person can maintain healthy weight during the Thanksgiving holiday?
1-Eating breakfast: While you might think it makes sense to save up calories for the big meal, experts say eating small meals in the morning can give you more control over your appetite.
2- Have a snack: Have some vegetables, right before your big meal!
3-Stay hydrated: A lot of food contains sodium and people drinking you have to keep yourself hydrated.
And finally watch your portion sizes, and walk out your meals.
Being prepared for these dates of celebrations is as important as knowing how to maintain a balanced diet. With these little tips you can meet your goals!

Yes, physical fitness builds a strong body that looks its best and performs to its max, but that’s not even close to all exercise can do for you. Fitness plays a role in every aspect of health, including mental health, and what working out can do for your brain.
Like Dr. Lisa Marie told us the beauty about fitness is the connection between mind and body connections.
Personal Implications and Improvements:
What does all of this mean for you? Lower risk of developing mood and anxiety disorders, reduced symptoms of existing mental health issues, improved stress management, and more confidence in everyday life.
Tips:
Getting good sleep.
Eating a healthy diet.
Finding meaningful work.
Spending time in positive environments and with positive people. Practicing mindfulness.

• Where to start?
• What frequency and intensity of cardio?
• What weight program to follow?
• What nutrition plans and strategies to follow?
• What supplements to take and why?
• What’s next = will what I’m doing NOW, really help me reach my goals tomorrow?
It is recommended that you try to get in 5 or 6 meals a day, a lot of people may have heard this sometimes, it seems achievable however you start off with the simplicity you can start with 4 meals a day and leave the weekends to have what you like.

Staying healthy is not only being physically fit, but it's being mentally fit as well. So, what does it mean to be physically and mentally fit?
First and foremost, we need to be in the present moment . We spend so much time in the past and so much time in the future and not enough time here and now.
Here are three tips on how to stay mentally fit:
1 - Having gratitude. Reminding yourself why everything you're doing is so important and embracing the feeling of thankfulness really resets you and motivates you to keep going.
2- Meditation and deep breathing. These practices can help with calming the elevating, your heart rate, relaxation and relieving tension. Take a moment each day to close your eyes and breathe as deeply and slowly as you can.
3 - Yoga. Yoga practices, great breathing and stretching techniques that destress and relax, all while incorporating fitness and exercise.
Being mentally fit is just as important as being physically fit. Trying these small fitness tips is a great way to improve your mental fitness.

Dr. Karaam Ellis—Temple of Human Spirituality
On this episode of We are Living Healthy, Alexis is joined by Dr. Karaam Ellis from Temple of Human Spirituality, and they talk about how to create a vessel to begin to create an environment where the Human can begin to truly heal. A vessel where Humanity can begin the work necessary to heal our planet, Earth.
Key Takeaways from Alexis chat with Dr Karaam Ellis
What is the Temple of Human Spirituality? The Temple of Human Spirituality
The Temple has been in existence in concept for longer than we may think. It is only being established in practicality because of the dire need for the Human to be healed. That “place” that houses the very best of who we are as Humans protected from the worst of what we have become as Humans. This is important because we as Humans need a point of reference to remind us of where we have to go. The Temple will accomplish this through an ambitious program called The Enclosed Garden Project. This project will create an enclosed space that will exist for meditation and reflective purposes only. No talking or communicating of any kind ill be allowed within the garden. The garden itself will be designed with various concepts of Nature (plants, flowers, earth, water, crystals, etc.).
Different ways to get healthy?
Nature, foods, Light nature are a lot of different things that we can do when it comes to diet.
Exposure to vibration and frequencies, the human itself it it's a frequency. Also Dr Karram said, `` In fact, the answer to our problem as Humans is very simple indeed and it is rooted in a simple principle, “heal self, heal others and heal Earth”.

On this episode of We are Living Healthy Alexis is joined by Dennis and Patricia from Virginia Beach Behavioral Health wellness Services to talk about ACEs, a program aimed to connect with compassion for childhood experiences.
Key Takeaways from Alexis chat with Dr. Schreiber
What does ACEs stand for? Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences—the ACE Study confirms, with scientific evidence, that adversity during development increases the risk of physical, mental and behavioral problems later in life.
How many times have you heard adults say that children are resilient? That they have an innate ability to magically “bounce back” from any situation, regardless of how stressful. Recent work in child development and neuroscience increasingly suggests that children require safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments to thrive. Evidence shows that stress and trauma, especially when prolonged, can interrupt healthy child development, putting them at risk for lifelong health issues.
Dennis and Patricia, helps us to understand ACE’s, and how training can help! However, there is agreement among professionals that various important individual, family, and community conditions can support resilience, such as:
● Close and stable relationships with competent caregivers or other caring adults
● Parents or adults who model resilience
● Identifying and cultivating a sense of purpose (faith, culture, identity)
● Individual developmental competencies (problem-solving skills, self–regulation, agency)
● Social connections
● Socioeconomic advantages and concrete support for parents and families
● Communities and social systems that support health and development and nurture human capital.
For more information you can Join them for a virtual session to discover more and:
● Gain awareness of the issue of ACEs
● Learn what ACEs are and are not
● How to apply this knowledge to your field of work

On this episode of We are Living Healthy, Alexis is joined by Dr.. Geoff Schreiber. Dr. Schreiber is certified by the Virginia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons to provide in-office sedation in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Today we have the chance to talk about YOMI, a new Robotic technology. The YOMI is used for robotic assisted dental implant placement. Also, we could discuss the use of Exparel, which is a long acting local anesthetic we use for procedures which decreases the pain patients experience after surgery.
Key Takeaways from Alexis chat with Dr. Schreiber
● What is YOMI?
YOMI is a robotic system used for dental implant placement.
● How does the YOMI work?
YOMI uses haptic guidance to guide the surgeon so they can perform the surgery exactly as planned pre-operatively using the digital planning software incorporated within the system.
● How does it benefit patients?
This system provides a way for the surgeon to place the implant in the perfect position for the future dental crown or bridge restorations which will be attached to the dental implants, while also completing the procedure in the safest manner possible by avoiding vital structures during the surgery. It also decreases surgical time and pain as the surgery can be done in a flapless manner in most cases.
● What is Exparel?
Exparel is a long acting local anesthetic that is injected at the time of surgery to provide a decreased level of pain for up to 48 to 72 hours after surgery.
Our surgeons at Eastern Virginia Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery use Yomi®, a new alternative to traditional surgical techniques that provides dental surgeons with robotic guidance during surgery.
If Yomi is right for you, your dental team will create a custom treatment plan. This plan will be made using Yomi® software. During surgery, Yomi will assist your surgeon. Yomi® will provide important information that your surgeon can feel, hear and see. Yomi® will guide your surgeon to place your implant precisely to plan.

On this episode of We are Living Healthy, Alexis talks to Luvenia Hankis of CLTRE VGN JNT about a vision that she has had since she was 18 years old: an all vegan Café in Virginia Beach with wellness community events and more.
What is CLTRE VGN JNT? Culture is a hip, third-wave cafe with a plant-based twist!
When and how did CLTRE begin? In 2018, founder Luvenia “Luv” decided to birth a vision she had from when she was just 18 years old. This vision was to open what she called a ‘neo-soul’ cafe.
What is your most popular food on your menu? Sweet waffles, our popular waffle made with spelt flour and love—comes with maple syrup.
Luvenia shares with Alexis her initial vision, a space where poets would express their wildest and most unique prose with a live artist creating a masterpiece in the background. Patrons could enjoy a chill atmosphere with good food, conversation and lively entertainment. This wasn’t a club or night lounge, it was a vibe. This would come to culminate an organic culture that, when spoken about, gives folks a warm welcome without ever having experienced it for themselves.

What advice can you share with us?
Be ok with where you are in your life/career. Don't compare your journey to others. Keep showing up for yourself. Setbacks are great lessons. Learn and keep moving forward. Celebrate small victories along the way. And always remember your WHY,
For me, I've always loved the spotlight (both on the stage and in the studio). I discovered yoga through a personal injury and fell in love with the physical and mindful release it offered and wanted to share "yoga magic" with others

City of Virginia Beach Behavioral Prevention Services Opioids
On this episode of We are Living Healthy, Alexis is joined by Dennis Southers, M.S.E.D CSAC,CPS Educator and Patricia Crumrine: M.S.E.D Educator from the city of Virginia Beach, to talk about substance abuse and how Covid 19 affected consumption.
What are Opioids?
Opioids are a class of drugs that include the illegal drug heroin, synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, and pain relievers available legally by prescription, such as oxycodone (OxyContin), hydrocodone (Vicodin), codeine, morphine, and many others.
As Dennis explains in this interview, opioids can be introduced to a patient for many reasons: after an accident, after surgery, chronic pain, etc. But oftentimes patients begin overusing opioids on a regular basis and sometimes don't even realize it—and that is where the addiction begins.
Physical signs that someone may be abusing an opiate:
Noticeable elation/euphoria, marked sedation/drowsiness, confusion, constricted pupils, slowed breathing, intermittent nodding off, or loss of consciousness.

Lipedema
Dr. Thomas Su, M.D.
On this episode of We are Living Healthy, Alexis is joined by Dr. Thomas Su, M.D, Dr. Thomas Su, is the owner and cosmetic surgeon of Artistic Lipo. Dr. Su began his medical career in internal medicine, practicing that until 2005, when he began to provide a full spectrum of non-invasive cosmetic procedures.
Key Takeaways from Alexis chat with Dr. Thomas Su
● What is Lipedema?
Lipedema is a medical problem that involves the irregular distribution of fat under the skin. Usually, it affects the legs, hips, and buttocks. Sometimes, though, it can affect the upper arms, too. While lipedema usually starts as a primarily cosmetic problem, over time, it often causes pain and poor mobility.
● How is Lipedema Diagnosed?
All too often, doctors diagnose lipedema at a late stage. This is because they lack familiarity with this disease. By the time patients have received a diagnosis, they have often suffered for many years, both physically and emotionally.
The good news is an experienced doctor can diagnose sufferers from a visual checkup. Lipedema has a characteristic body appearance. The legs (and sometimes arms) are usually larger than the trunk of the body. They don’t match the size of the upper body, waist, ankles, and wrists, which are usually slender.
They also offer Virtual Consultations- Lipedema
The process of the ArtLipo virtual consultation for lipedema is to first send us your basic information along with your photos, and what you are looking for. The video explains how our doctors evaluate you using these photos. The video then shows how our doctors will draw what your legs and arms will look like after your surgery, something we don’t think you will find anywhere else.

In September of 1997, Joe was nearing the end of his military career as a Combat Engineer and college student and was under heavy stress. He started to develop pain in his lower jaw area, began to poke and prod at his facial muscles with his sunglasses, and he decided that he needed to buy a temple massager immediately. But such a device did not exist. That is why he creates this amazing product!
Who is the right candidate for this Temple Massager?
People that suffer every day stress, muscle tension, headaches—any person that needs to relax their head and release tension. Doctors recommend keeping the facial muscles relaxed to prevent and relieve muscle tension that can lead to headaches and migraines caused by stress.
How can people find this product?
This product is available online at https://www.templemassager.com/
