In June of 1908, a remote area of Siberia, Russia was hit with a rare and destructive natural disaster called a meteor air burst. The ensuing explosion was of enormous magnitude. In 1971, an illness permeated a rural communities in Iraq. Though many made full recoveries, others dealt with permanent brain damage and hundreds (perhaps even thousands) died from the resulting illness. The affliction was traced back to grain which was imported from the U.S. and Mexico. Due to many missteps and unfortunate misunderstandings, things went very wrong.

Dark history about on Tarrare, a well-known 18th century French polyphage who would eat anything in an attempt to satiate his impossibly large hunger. Beyond his hunger, his physical appearance and attributes were bizarre and fitting. Some of these attributes perhaps were caused by his affliction while others may have just been convenient to aid in indulging his affliction. He went to some very disturbing lengths to sate his curse including eating garbage and perhaps... even cannibalism.
