Welcome back for another episode! This is our first conversation to focus on play-to-earn (P2E) gaming, which is one of the most popular use cases for NFTs and demonstrating the value of digital ownership.

For those learning about P2E for the first time, it's a new model where video game players are rewarded through the earning of tokens, NFTs or other assets, that in many cases can be exchanged for other cryptocurrencies or real world value. In short, instead of paying to play, you can play to get paid.

We chat to Lewis Grafton, COO of SolChicks. SolChicks is a play-to-earn game that has become one of the most popular on the Solana blockchain since its launch in September 2021. The SolChicks eco-system is founded on a collection of NFTs and a SolChicks token, which form the basis of characters, economies and governance for the game.

This is episode one of the podcast, so it’s still early! For the genesis episode, I wanted to go back to the start of culture as we know it. We chat to Vanessa Lee-AhMat and Tim Lea, who partnered to launch Walking Between Worlds (WBW). WBW is a web3 project at the intersection of NFTs and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture with the ambition to empower indigenous communities and promote indigenous art across the world.

Vanessa is a director at Black Lorikeet, an indigenous Australian owned and operated research consultancy. It works as a cultural broker and business connector to bridge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture with other organisations and new technologies.

Tim is the author of Blockchain: Down the Rabbit Hole, Chief Crypto Officer at Blue Ocean Studios and he makes regular speaking appearances at blockchain and NFT forums to educate others on the technology.

In this episode we cover:

2:58 the role of cultural brokering in connecting indigenous people and artists to new technologies

5:42 the beginnings, purpose and vision of WBW

10:49 WBW’s four pillars of empowerment

17:34 overcoming technology challenges faced by indigenous communities

21:19 embedding indigenous cultural and community protocols into WBW and NFTs

26:44 the potential for DAOS to create generational wealth for indigenous communities

34:35 how to get involved in the project
