Jack Raines was a brand new corporate employee when covid started. Not long after that, he made a ton of money, lost a ton of money, then he quit his job, started traveling and writing, and isn't slowing down. It was awesome getting to talk with Jack about how this all happened and what he is doing currently. I'm a big fan and I'm really excited to see where Jack goes from here!

Random meta talk about the podcast in the beginning of this episode. Then I talk about a micro project that I made called Baller Style.

In this episode, I explained why it's been about a month since the last episode, talk about some potential future topics, and lastly, sleep deprivation.
In this episode I discuss why I'm switching my crypto mining payouts from ethereum to dogecoin. And I also signed up for the Coinbase debit card so I can spend USD and get a percentage back in crypto. Pretty sweet.
When it comes to life, you are much better off knocking out one, two, or three really big things each day rather than running around trying to accomplish a hundred little things. The advice to do the little things right doesn't apply to everyone.
Talking to people is a perishable skill and my skill has diminished after two years of working from home. I'll be taking some steps to improve.

In this episode I talk about some of the decisions and pivots that go into the early stages of trying to build a brand. From product sourcing to service pricing.
This one is a random one. From a bathroom renovation not going well to wearing jackets to kids not waiting at bus stops.
Reaching episode 20 is a bit of a win for me. A great tweet from Alex Hormozi. And a motivational trick for when I don't feel like doing anything.

In this episode I cover how daycare can make potty training more difficult, if kids today are having a hard time learning to write, and appreciating the little moments.
When setting goals, you don't have to set just one goal. You can set up the good goal, a great one, and the omg goal. You can also inverse and set up an anti-goal for what you don't want.
I'm taking notes down while I record the podcast now. Since there can be a delay between recording and publishing, I would have trouble remembering what I talked about. Note taking will solve this.
Also, I had two choices for building out the Courtiers website. Big Cartel or Shopify. The key is to make a decision fast, act on it, and then if it was the wrong one, pivot. I decided to try out Big Cartel because it's cheaper but ultimately switched to Shopify.
Lastly, t-shirts shrink vertically because that is the direction of the fibers. I had wondered how companies like Redbubble and Teepublic dealt with this issues. Turns out they include a card with shipments advising customers to not put the shirts in the dryer.
Quick update episode: One of those jobs I applied for, I got a nice rejection letter. I took a shot, I missed. But now I'm going to get the rebound and take another by asking what it will take for them to sponsor my podcast.
Busy season at work is almost over. Just a few more days to go. But today I had to take an hour or so for a mental health break. I also randomly applied for two quarter-time jobs.
Zero hour is the hour of the day where your motivation and drive are at their lowest. Finding a way past that can help you accomplish a lot more in a day.
When it comes to business, your mental frame of reference can have a huge impact on what is possible. In this episode, I compare my mental frame of reference with Sam Parr of the My First Million podcast.
My frame of reference is limited by prior failures and that my friends and family haven't had business success.
Sam Parr has had business success and is surrounded by friends who are very successful.
His frame of reference for setting up a profitable operation is much different than mine.
But there are ways you can help change your frame of reference:

There is salsa on my shoe and a toaster at the bottom of the stairs. Two signs that I'm in reactive mode rather than proactive mode.
I'm rushing around and disorganized.
I need to take some deep breaths, get organized, and start focusing on one thing at a time.
In this episode, I talk about a civilian air-to-air refueling tanker that just helped some Canadian F-18s transit over the Atlantic Ocean. I had no idea these existed and I'm fascinated by the business model.

I'm not very surprised to see they are based out of Northern Virginia, probably a short drive to the Pentagon.
Work life balance is different for everyone. It's also not static, a healthy balance today might not work the same next year. And burnout sucks.
Amor fati means to love fate. There is a gap between the stimulus and a response. In that gap we can choose to be happy, so I'm happy the garbage disposal needs to be replaced.
I got stuck in my head thinking about all the things I don't have.
The scarcity mindset can easily ruin your day.
I'm not snacking or eating between dinner and lunch. This won't fix everything but it seems to have plenty of benefits.
I'm walking taller. Developing better posture so I'm not a hypocrite when I tell my son to sit up straight.
A quick story of how asking about an office space lease led to a free treadmill.
If the risk is low, you should ask for what you want.
You might just get what you want.
You won't have to wonder "what if?"
You might stumble into something totally unexpected.
Recognizing and breaking negative cycles is a superpower. The sooner you can recognize that you are in a negative cycle and break free from it, the sooner you'll be back to performing at a high level.
I don't smoke. But I prefer going to the local smoke shop for a soda over the gas station. There's no rush. The people are friendly and chatty.
The NFL's has an optics problem when it comes to suspensions.
Welcome to the Courtiers Podcast!
In episode 1, I discuss:
Gaining 20 pounds in about as many months. I should undo that.
Getting old sucks. Maintaining mobility is critical to staying healthy.
The price difference between the Javelin and NLAW anti-tank missiles is crazy. Given the choice, I'll take the NLAW.
And it's hard to find a great pair of pants.
