Do you ever feel like your celebrations of the deceased lack creativity, or your memories feel like they are fading with time? Does it feel like your grief has become a routine? Me too. But is this a bad thing or do we simply need to find a new perspective? I hope you will read, find some comfort, and maybe choose to share your own experiences. Love and Peace.

As Mother’s Day is upon us, I know there are many of you, like me, who have a difficult time with this day. There are many reasons - many different types of grief - for why this day might be difficult for you, but I would like to talk about one: how difficult or non-existent relationships with our moms can make days like Mother's day feel less-than-celebratory, and then I will share some thoughts on how to move forward in our grief. Here is my most recent blog, "Are You My Mother?", meant to be a companion to “Yes. Hello. I need Customer Service for my broken childhood, please,” that I posted a few years ago.
Much love to everyone on this difficult but special day.

Today’s podcast is an old blog post from three years ago, right around mother’s day, like it is today. For those of you new to my blog and podcast, you will not be as familiar with the other grief journeys I am on in my life. There is, of course, the grief I am experiencing because of the loss of our first child, Samantha, ten years ago. But what I found out, after losing our little girl and delving deeper into that grief, is that grief does not just exist because of loss of life. There are so many other ways in which we grieve. This podcast and blog post will explain some of those other ways - at least in my life, but perhaps in yours as well – in which we experience loss in this world. For me, I have experienced loss on both sides of motherhood, as my friend once put it, and I know from some of your comments that many of you can relate as well. I hope this blog will provide some insight and advice that you will find helpful in your own journeys.

I wrote this blog post about 6 years ago, but, again, I feel like it is still relevant. It is relevant largely to those who are new to grief but, because grief never really goes away - it changes over time - we can sometimes still feel like the ‘elephant in the room’ when others know - or don’t know - what we suffer through each day and week and year. This post is also meant to help those who are hoping to help others during their grief, so I hope it will get everyone thinking about this part of grief so healing can begin and continue.

Today, I will again be reading an old blog post. I wrote this blog about a year ago, just as we were entering the pandemic, when there was a lot of fear and uncertainty. But I would like to share it with you now, in podcast form, because I think many of the themes I touched on are still relevant today - not just in the pandemic, but in grief as well. I feel like fear pervades our grief experience on many levels and in many ways, and that addressing those fears and anxieties is important in getting through our grief journeys and maybe even learning something in the process. Therefore, I hope you can gain something of use from my post entitled, "Pandemic Grief: Lense of Fear, Filter of Faith."

Today I would like to read for you a blog I wrote about two-and-a-half years ago. While it is not one of my more current posts, I still feel like it applies both to me and to many who grieve. I hope you can find something of meaning or worth that will bring you comfort and hope in your lives in this podcast I titled, “A Tale of Two Piggies.”

As we sit in this part of the pandemic, the threshold between the grief of the past and the hope and uncertainties of the future, I've been reflecting on the last year and what it looks like moving forward. I thought perhaps many of you were pondering these same questions and ideas as well. So, in my next podcast. I will talk about what I'm learning and some ways you, too, might be able to think through this time when we are poised to use the things from the past to make positive changes for the future.

For the last couple of years, I've been having some confusing feelings surrounding my grief, so I wanted to try to put them into words so that I might hopefully help others who may be on this particular part of their grief journey as well, or give those who want to help people who are grieving the loss of a child, or other person in their life, some insight into what we are going through.
