Basic Theology: The Trinity What is the Trinity? Why should we affirm this doctrine? Why does this doctrine matter?
The mother of James and John has a desire for her children that is fundamentally good; however, the specifics of her request shows that she has misunderstood the nature of the Kingdom of God.
We are urged to take inventory of our spiritual lives by examining the disciplines of prayer, Bible intake, fellowship, service, witnessing, and giving.
Paul, describing the faithful church of Thessalonica, points to the evidence of their conversion, their perseverance under persecution, and the example they set for other believers as characteristic of their faithfulness. Could we be this kind of church?

Do you understand your need?
Have you been made well?
Are you experiencing persecution?
How are you working for the sake of the Kingdom of God?
This first sign recorded by the Apostle John, we are told in 2:11, was performed to manifest the glory of Jesus and that his disciples might believe in him.
Our sermon audio picks up in the midst of an explanation of the customs of Jewish betrothal and the wedding ceremony.
God has called His people to repentance, righteousness, and a life invested in the transforming ministry of the Word of God.
"Love the LORD your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength...[and] love your neighbor as yourself." These are the first and second greatest commandments, and they should dictate the vision of the church, but how the church accomplishes this vision is a flexible matter. By our nature, we have an earthly citizenship, but we who are in Christ Jesus are citizens of the kingdom of God. We must reject our earthly citizenship and walk as aliens in a foreign land rather than attempting to maintain dual citizenship. Loyalty to the kingdom of God cannot be divided.
There are incredible implications for the reality the Christ is making all things new. How should we live in light of the fact that everything that man values on earth will be done away with to make way for God's new creation?
John the Baptist was born as a forerunner of Christ, "in the spirit and power of Elijah...to turn the hearts of the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous" in preparation for the coming gift of Messiah.
Before anyone understood what the coming of Messiah would look like, there was a promise that He would come, and His kingdom would have certain qualities. Listen to Isaiah's vision for the coming of Messiah.
We are called to be stewards of all that God has given us. That calling certainly applies to our physical possessions and gifts, (e.g. money, talents, time, etc.) but more importantly, the Christian has been called to steward the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are the means by which the Gospel spreads. How have we performed as stewards? Have we been faithful, or have we been faithless?
Paul thanks God for multiple aspects of His goodness, but especially that God chose to put Paul into His service.
"Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure; if there is anything love or admirable, excellent or praiseworthy, dwell on these things."
Paul exhorts the Philippian believers to "stand firm in the Lord." What follows are three examples of how we can relate to others, our circumstances, and ourselves as we stand on the sure foundation that is Christ the Lord.
We are all following someone. Paul encourages the church at Philippi to model their walk after his. He warns that there are many examples out there that would distract us from the focus that God desires for our lives, and we would do well to avoid those people and model our walks after those whose focus is on the eternal things of God.
Paul writes of pressing onward toward the end goal of the process of sanctification. God loves us as we are, but he won't leave us that way. He wants us to be just like Jesus.
Paul let the Law take him as far as it would, but found that all righteousness to be had by means of the law was rubbish when compared with the glory of the righteousness of Christ.

The Israelites seem doomed to a repeated cycle of rebellion and judgment, and even Moses has disqualified himself from entrance to Canaan. When even the faithful prophet is compromised, what is Israel's status before their God? We all experience periods of drought in our lives when we feel far from God, but regardless of our circumstances, experiences, or feelings, God remains consistent.
Paul says, "For me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain." What does Paul mean when he says "to die is gain." How can we truly say those words if all that we know and value is found in this world? The answer is in the realignment of what we value, and that only comes when we recognize the worth of Christ over the worth of the world.
What is meant when we speak of "Church Discipline?" What is the presented biblical picture of this practice of the Church? What does it mean to be disciplined?
Paul urges the church at Galatia, "You who are in the Spirit, keep in step with the Spirit." What does that look like? Paul gives several examples: Accountability, restoration, and bearing one another's burdens.
Our various circumstances are not the root of our Joy. Paul's experiences spanned the whole breadth of normal human experience, often suffering at the hands of his enemies, and the enemies of the gospel. Nevertheless, Paul writes, "In every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice."
Philippians 1:6 says, "For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus." What implications does this verse carry for the Christian life, and for our eternal security in Christ Jesus?
Paul is able to offer up a prayer of joy, in spite of his circumstances, because of his reflection upon what God had accomplished through the church at Philippi. They knew God, had fellowship with Him, and were participants in the Gospel from the beginning of Paul's ministry to them.
God is serious about the devotion of His people. The question is: How serious are His people about their devotion to God?

Paul calls himself a slave of Christ in Romans 1:1. This identification, which Paul often uses, should prompt us to ask the questions: How do we identify ourselves? What is our claimed title? To what or whom are we enslaved?
