With Christmas messaging and decorations in our wake, months before the time, we thought it might be a good time to chat about some alternative approaches to presents, food and the day itself.
So often, we do as we always have, often unaware of why we do what we do, and that what we are doing is not bringing the 'joy' or 'happiness' intended.
In fact in many cases it is much the opposite because of the impact it has on us financially, emotionally and in other ways.
Like you, we have begun to wake up to question our why, and arrived at some alternatives that we now bring to our lives.
Here we share some possible alternatives that we have experienced in relation to the festive season, that reflect many of the principles of the Real Time Heart-Based approach.
If you are interested in discovering how to bring these Real Time Heart-Based approaches to living your life more authentically, to more freely make choices that lead to your happiness, wellness and wellbeing, we'd love to hear from you.

In this podcast we take a deeper dive into the phrase ‘go with flow’. While we often associate it as a positive approach, we would question if that is the whole story.
This is one of the phrases that we term ‘false friends’, which on the surface seems the thing to aspire to, however when you break it down, can become a trap, where you easily lose yourself and what is important to you.
Heart-Based living, is about noticing and choosing different actions when things don't feel good for you or they take you away from your true wants, and what matters to you.
It is a unique way to discover, explore and bring the whole of you to more moments, and feel the gains as you do.
What are your thoughts about this phrase?

With terror warnings being felt around the world, we took this time to explore the ripple effect of unresolved anger, and the way groups with common sentiment on issues, come together with a shared voice.
We are seeing how biases and misinformation are closing our hearts and minds to explore and broaden our understanding towards what can be helpful rather than harmful.
It feels that the byproduct of our busy way of life, is lessening the time needed to address our emotional needs, leaving unresolved matters, ‘piling up’.
Here we share how we can personally recognise within ourselves, where we sit in our ability to ‘see’ what we are normally ‘blind’ to.
Feel free to leave your thoughts.

With so much happening around us and at a fast pace, it is no wonder we are hardly have the time and awareness to find clarity in it all.
The concern is that when we act from this space, we may be supporting things that are not benefiting us, in fact may be harmful.
So how do we do it differently?
How do we have the discernment in moments when it matters? To sense that something doesn’t seem or feel right for you?
In this podcast, we explore some possibilities that may support you, as we all begin to navigate the world as it is unfolding.

We are often very unaware of the amount of energy, time and attention we are giving to things. It is often due to us wanting to try harder to achieve an outcome or improve in some way.
Often the very act of trying harder, can work against us, and what we want to gain is lost. It may be part of the reason for feeling like we have been unsuccessful.
Nigel and Tricia share some heart based living perspectives that may be helpful if you are finding yourself in this cycle and way of life.
They recognise the challenges with breaking some of our usual patterns of behaviours, and bring alternatives that may be helpful for anyone at any time.
Feel free to leave us a comment or question. We’d love to hear from you and bring support that is helpful.

Are we asking the appropriate question? Is it about losing weight, or is it about how to make choices that lead to us feeling better?
After all, weight is not always indicative of the state of health. We noticed on our last visit to Japan, that on the whole, Japanese people were not overweight. When we asked about the level of diabetes and other lifestyle diseases, they were still quite significant.
In this podcast, we chat about the shift from ‘trying’ to lose weight, to aiming to feel more energised, well, mentally clear, and happy. How the focus can change from chasing and feeling successful or unsuccessful, to discovering and learning more about yourself and what works for your unique self.
You may find that when you spend more moments choosing foods and practices that work best for you, that you arrive at the weight that is best for you, given your current whole situation.
How do you feel about this approach? Let’s talk about it and see if together we can explore more things that may be helpful for you in living life well.
How often do the rules that have been set feel controlling and constraining. We live in times when accountability and certainty is at the forefront, which is leading many organisations, creating more and more policies and procedures, that are time consuming and costly to uphold. What’s more, it often feels quite cold and harsh.
Is there another way to achieve quality outcomes, without such measures?
Nigel and Tricia look at the impact of a more human approach and how it affects the environment and the way people feel. They provide some alternative perspectives that show how with less structure, there are ways for positive involvement. How do you feel about the topic? We are happy to share time with you, to support you in your business or organisation if this is something you can see, will make a difference.
This week we drew from an ABC program, Pain Factory (4 Corners) that shared some insights about back pain, surgical interventions, recovery and some of the conflicts of interests involved.
We shared the dilemmas associated with conflicted interest advice vs self guided choice, and what to look for as we make choices such as surgery vs natural healing.
We hope to highlight the importance of you becoming an active partner in your choices, by noticing and considering yourself in it all.
Today we drew upon a news article brought to light by a NSW politician this week, calling out to the social media platforms in relation to misinformation and its impact.
We felt it opened up issues that many people are beginning to see, as concerning.
During this podcast, we chat about the changing nature of the social platforms, that began many years back, initially with the intention of sharing about lives, benefiting our friends and family, now as a platform with the power and influence in all aspects of life today.
We recognise, more than ever it is the time to understand the nature of what is happening behind the scenes, to become more discerning with what you choose to engage. If you are looking to navigate your own life, with what matters and makes a difference to how you feel, there may be things in this episode, that open up your own insights and findings.
Feel free to comment, and connect with us, as we share an alternatives approach to see, feel and do differently.
We often hear the term in relation to organisations who operate with a bias that is not disclosed, however leads to a personal gain or profit.
In this podcast we discuss how conflicts of interest are actually found in all areas of life. For example how often do we see that people make suggestions, push for an outcome, or coerce for reasons that bring personal gain?
It may not be financial, however there is a gain, perhaps in the form of want to win, prove a point, power over, gratification, manipulate in some way.
So how do you know you have a conflict of interest or there is one presenting?
We chat about what it may look like, and the importance of noticing when signs appear, so you can better own your choices.
What is your experience with conflict of interest? How does it feel? How well do you or others recognise the conflict of interest, or disclose when you / they have one?
We’d love to hear some of your views and share examples that are happening in your life.
In this podcast we look at how the notion of 'being polite' has impacted our ability to bring our truth and discernment with the truth in what we see around us.
In many instances we have come to see politeness as a sign of 'many things good' including respect, kindness, duty.
However is that really true?
And will politeness help us to determine what is really happening within us and in others? Will it help us to connect and sense what is beneficial to ourselves or our relationships with others?
What are your thoughts on the content we have shared?
Once again, how the use of certain words can lead us astray and fuel perspectives that may not reflect what actually exists. IN this podcast, we look at how the word ’too’ is used, and what we can listen out for when we do. There are so many incidental ways we can improve, many of which are alternatives to what you may believe is the way. How do you feel about what we have shared?
In these heart based living podcasts, we aim to share the small yet significant things to notice in yourself and outside of yourself, that influence the way in which you live, the way you feel, your health and happiness.
In this podcast titled ‘Why Labels for Ourselves and Others are Limiting,' Tricia and Nigel look at the how the words, ‘I am...’ can contribute to a more fixed view.
In the quest for honesty and what is real, telling yourself 'I am (funny, caring, compassionate, happy or any other label)' may inhibit noticing and expressing what is actually felt and happening for you. It may lead you to believe the 'I am' narrative, limiting the openness to see things differently or bring out more of what is there. How do you feel about the points raised here?
In these heart based living podcasts, we aim to share the small yet significant things to notice in yourself and outside of yourself, that influence the way in which you live, the way you feel, your health and happiness.
This podcast is intended to provide an alternative approach to New Year’s Resolutions.
How do you feel?
Here we chat about how we come to do a lot of ‘telling’ in our communication. We have come to take on board what others are ‘telling us’ and from that, we seem to shape our lives and behaviours around that. How often do we listen and believe what others tell us without really exploring what that is for ourselves.
Have we lost our ability to discover to better understand with open conversations? Are we using words and language to persuade? What is the intention?
Perhaps we can notice what we are being told, who is doing the telling, and is there something that is not the full picture, perhaps a conflict of interest.
Here we discuss the impact of updating our knowledge so that we can being new practices to our life that may be more helpful to our wellbeing and bring better self care.
So often we stick to habits and ways that have actually become outdated, without realising.
We hope there are a few clues as to what might help you discover new ways that work for you not against you.
In these times, it is really up to us, to be more discerning with our choices, so we can find more energy and time for things that we love and enjoy.
Let us know how this fits for you.
How often do we hear in ourselves and others, the expression, ‘I’ve let someone down.’
Here we chat about how these words themselves, can have us feel and carry a massive weight with us! And is it really an accurate reflection of the situation?
Often behind any of our actions and choices, there are other factors that play a role in the outcomes, yet we don’t always see that.
If you are looking to see things differently, to break some of the harsh patterns you may be living by, and bring more kindness, we hope this is helpful.
Tricia and Nigel look at the impact that incentives are having on people.
They share what they have noticed about the challenges associated with using this approach to boost aspects of performance.
Some of the current incentive schemes have been ‘normalised’ as the way it is, and we hardly question or choose to do it differently.
What is that?
Let us know your thoughts.
Tricia and Nigel chat about the changing nature of client service, and the impact it is having on the community.
In the past, client service was personal. It gave people the opportunity to have conversations and share their experience and feelings.
Nowadays, it has become more automated, to bring efficiencies to improve profit and outcomes.
Is this approach, affecting an organisation / government / business’s ability to truly live their values in relation to human care, wellbeing, and connection.
Let us know your thoughts.
Tricia and Nigel share their views when on feeling like you don’t fit in or feeling isolated or excluded from groups or situations.
They share how as humans it is natural that we want to feel connected with others and sometimes this may lead us to try hard to act or behave in ways that help us be accepted. We may even do things that don’t really align with us and deep down it does not bring us happiness or belonging.
They say if you are recognising that you are not fitting in, it may be a first sign that you realise you see things differently.
And that is wonderful, because actually we are all unique and once we begin to discover who we are and what we are about, we can let go of trying to fit in and rather spend time bringing more of that person to light. This is when the ‘laws of attraction’ come into play, and a truer feeling of belonging may arrive.
Over the years as we continue to satisfy our basic human need to belong, it seems we are searching for ‘how to be’ so that we ‘fit’. When we don’t gain the acceptance or feel we are not liked by others, we often ‘try’ something else, as we seek the elusive ‘something’ that will lead to our happiness. In this podcast, Tricia and Nigel have a chat about finding a more authentic sense of belonging, and thread some alternative perspectives that may be helpful.
It is evident that relationships today can be challenging for all sorts of reasons. Past hurts, and ways we have come to behave in relationships, can affect the quality of our engagement and often can create situations that can harm both parties involved.
This situation is one that we often hear about, so what is a heart-based living approach for both parties in this situation.
We had a concern from someone who mentioned they were upset about a friend who no longer contacted them in the same way, and they were quite distressed about it.
Nigel and Tricia spoke about this situation, and brought some Heart-Based Living approaches to it, which hopefully if you are experiencing something similar, you may find something helpful to observe in your own situation and practice in your life.
Feel free to contact us or visit our website to ask any question that you have so we can bring a podcast related to it.
If we aim to get to the heart of the matter, with what matters, it is helpful to challenge misconceptions and habits we have come to see as ‘just the way it is’.
So this chat is around ‘busyness’.
So often we hear or say ourselves, ‘I’m so busy’ in a way that suggests we’re missing out on something else more important because of it.
If that is the case, rather than ‘so busy’, how would it feel to respond with ‘I’m giving my energy and time to what matters and is important to me’?
Ah, that would be wonderful!
So, how can that really happen? What could we become more aware of, that could assist us living more this way.
This may be another helpful practice towards Heart-Based Living. We’d love to hear how you go with it.
Heart-Based Living and Promises
If we are truly ready to move to Heart-Based Living, looking at ‘words’ and their meanings and the impact they have on the way we live, is helpful.
We decided to look at the word ‘promise’ and some of the challenges this brings.
We look at alternative ways of expressing which includes stating an intention rather than a promise. Sometimes what you ‘promise’ may not be the best course of action, as things can change in any one moment.
What do you feel about this notion of ‘promise’.
How do we live from the heart?
Part of that is about being able to freely express what is in your heart. So how do we do that, without falling into patterns that takes us away from bringing care to ourselves and others?
In this chat, we look at noticing the difference with expression and the repetitive unhelpful and often negative narratives, we tend to stay in.
Noticing, may be another step in moving away from unhelpful practices and moving towards more helpful ones.
What do you feel about this?
While finding meaning can have its benefits, creating meaning also comes with some challenges. Nowadays we are exposed to so much through various outlets, that may generate meanings that lead to actions and often non action, both of which may not serve us well.
Meaning as we know is derived from our lived experience, and as we all experience life differently, finding common meaning, is less likely.
In this podcast Tricia and Nigel, talk about a heart-based living approach, that highlights an alternative approach in moments, when our meaning making is leading us away from our hearts, what we want and what we love.
Tricia and Nigel run a regular zoom expression session to engage in the practice of increasing awareness around meaning making and developing the skills of honest expression.
Having hope can feel difficult when so many challenging things are at the forefront in these times. With heart based living, we see it is important to experience and express your true emotions, hence we see having hope is not trying to feel happy or hopeful when that is not the experience.
So how does hope genuinely arrive?
We chat about the value of exploring what is genuinely there to be hopeful about. We see there are many wonderful changes emerging, bringing hope for a better future, so keeping an eye on them can be helpful. Feel free to share what you are seeing that is pathing the way for hope in the future.
We also look at the power of small steps and actions that bring positive feelings that better create a hopeful environment. This and the power of small steps by many.
Where are you in the area of hope and what would you like to share in terms of supporting others with hope in these challenging times?
We know there is a lot of value held around learning, and the concept of life long learning held in positive regard.
We thought we’d share a discussion around the nature of the learning, and how it is possible that to actually walk away with a learning that may not be beneficial to us, or may limit our growth in some way.
It highlights some considerations around learning, which may be helpful as you discover more about heart-based living.
What are your thoughts about some of the points brought up during this podcast? We’d love to hear your view.
In this podcast we share our view on the nature of rules we have come to live by, and the impact of those rules when we come to experience life and engage in things.
We share what to watch out for in yourself to notice when you have moved into a more restricted and limited way of living.
We share the importance of developing a trust and sense to guide you for your safety and wellbeing, without having to over constrict with limitations, and miss out on things you love and feel alive doing.
What are your thoughts about this? We love you to share your own rules or stories about when your own instinct played a vital role.
There is a lot of talk about what we need to do to be happy, successful, wealthy and the list goes on.
So often there are lists from research or what others have found worked for them, and in many instances, people try to follow some of those things in the hope they too will get the same results.
We have found, in so many instances, it actually leads to the opposite, as often they feel alien or even too difficult to engage or uphold. The byproduct of this can be disappointment, or shame from not being successful, or self doubt increasing and self worth lessening. Losing hope can creep in, where you begin to feel unable to find the way.
We see this cycle of engaging at the core of the pattern that is moving us further away from our physical and mental wellbeing, and something that is critical to break free from.
We discuss how heart based living tackles this differently. It shows a different way of investing your energy, which ultimately leads to your personal growth and capacity to depend on you, to choose what is best for you.
We explore some of the simple practices to help move you there.
There is a lot said about beliefs and this conversation opened up a trail of thought about the notion of ‘emerging truths’.
We often hear about the positive view and value of ‘sticking by your beliefs’.
We explored the limitations that comes with more fixed approach to beliefs and chatted about how when open to see things differently, ‘emerging truths’ unfold, and old beliefs and positions may not be as relevant, continued or upheld.
With Heart-based living, as the heart opens through the senses, new possibilities become more apparent.
We discussed how in times of pain, feeling stuck, in turmoil, or emotionally unhappy or anxious, the opportunity to explore and grow, becomes possible.
Trust is a word often used, and we thought we’d have a conversation around how we see it in terms of a heart based living approach.
As trust often revolves around what we believe, it becomes clear how we can gain or lose trust, as our many life experiences has us all with varied beliefs in a broad range of areas.
So what is trust? Nigel and Tricia have a natural flowing conversation around the topic and it is interesting where it ends up.
Nigel and Tricia discuss heart-based kindness versus niceness.
In life, we are regularly caught up in systems that are meant to be helpful however often lack the flexibility and capability to accommodate unique and specific needs.
Help is often provided with politeness, doing things with a smile, adhering to protocols however the systems themselves often lack a human approach.
People are looking to be truly heard and understood, as often life issues are more complex, not straight forward.
Unfortunately it is more common to get caught in a system that gives you the ‘run around’, leaving you feeling frustrated and lost and in some cases unable to reach a resolution.
Being nice or polite in these instances, may feel inauthentic and uncaring.
Heart-based kindness looks and feels different.
It shows care and support that makes a difference and genuinely addresses the true need, in the moment in some way.
There is nothing expected in return.
So how can we bring more heart-based kindness to what we are in?
The COVID pandemic, has hugely impacted our lives; for many due to loss of loved ones, businesses and livelihoods, the anxiety and stress from uncertainty and disruption, the overwork and ongoing threats in various occupations, the injustice of who survives on many levels, including financially.
It has impacted us all in different ways.
In this podcast we explore the nature of heart-based as governments look to move on and tackle the economic issues due to the COVID and other disasters happening around the world.
This podcast explores the notion of what is seen as 'normal'.
Nigel and Tricia, explores how the belief that 'everyone is doing it' can often lures us to engage in things that may not actually be good for us, or what we truly want.
With heart based living, it is about discovering what actually feels right for you, your authentic self and may involve moving against the 'norm'.
Discovering your why's, may help you navigate through these challenges and dilemmas and lead to greater and deeper self care for the long term.
Nigel and Tricia shared a conversation around choices, and some reasons why we often don't feel we have a choice.
It looks at some common patterns we have come to accept as 'normal', that limit our capacity to make choices that are more aligned with what we truly and deeply want for ourselves.
With many of us spending a lot of time, in the confines of our minds, worry about past or future choices, there may be some perspectives throughout this chat, that may resonate or awaken something related to your own choices, in moments throughout your day.
Can something as simple as more honest choices, change the trajectory of your current life?
Moving to heart based living, means being open to challenge the deep inner needs we have unconsciously come to live by and feel as us and our way of life. This is the work and practice that ultimately leads to living and feeling life differently. So in this chat, we share some of our own needs that have driven some of our behaviours and the impact on ourselves and others around us. Choosing heart based living to be more of who we truly are in a more caring way.
We are seeing much variation in behaviours of leaders around the world, so what is leadership and where does heart-based living fit into leadership? Here we explore the role of caring and the notion that the leadership journey begins as you better learn to live your own life, from your heart. So in this, we can all play a role, right now towards a better world.
How often do we focus on our habits? Sometimes they are the ones we don't want in our life, and then there's creating ones we feel are good for us. This podcast looks at the notion of habit creating itself, and recognises that when we unconsciously move into routines, we may miss tuning into our selves and what is around us.
So this is about how to make a habit of noticing, and working with yourself and your intention for the good you are seeking, for your whole self and all that surrounds you, rather than fixed / goal orientated habits and routines.
We hear many tips about 'being present' 'go with the flow' and while we may understand the message intellectually, we know it's not always possible to apply in our life.
So we thought we'd look at the notion of 'lists' and the impact they have on how we go about life.
This topic was inspired by someone who shared openly about the impact of lists on her own way of life. Thank you Pamela.
Nigel and Tricia have a chat about the notion of choices and how often your choices are not your own.
They often seem more habitual; being on automatic pilot.
Some would question whether these are actual choices... and that until you notice what you are doing, can you make a real choice?
They chat about discovering what it is you actually want or don't want for yourself, and choices towards improving and benefiting your life.
They see this as a practice in relation to many aspects of your life including nutrition, recreation, work, exercise and personal growth in general.
How conscious are you of your choices towards things that improve your overall health and wellbeing?
Nigel and Tricia from RTHB bring a casual chat about the nature of success and how we have come to measure it.
It highlights how happiness is not necessarily the byproduct of success. It begins to question the way in which we have been striving for success and what we may have left behind along the way.
Can success be done differently? It may feel counterintuitive, however exploring this heart based approach may light the path to another way.
Uncertainty is around us more than ever. This can be at the centre of many anxieties we may be feeling, so what if we discover another way we tackle uncertainty. How are you going with uncertainty? Is there something in this that can be helpful for you?
Tricia and Nigel chat about the impact of letting go on heart based living. We often hear ‘just let go’?
How does that happen?
Can we be and do what we know may be helpful for us in being kind to ourselves and others.
Tricia and Nigel chat about the notion of ‘deserve’ on a heart based living approach.
What does the word conjure up for you and what are your thoughts on the impact of this notion on heart based living.
