Graduate student Amber Runyan joins the podcast to discuss what it's like to journey from theory to application of trauma-informed care. In her own words, Amber says:

"My name is Amber Runyan. I am 22 years old. I just recently graduated with a bachelors degree in social work from Greenville University this past spring. I am currently an RA and program Care Coordinator at Eden’s Glory where I have been working almost a year and half now. I will be starting my MSW program this fall at SIUE. I think that social work and ministry has been a passion of mine long before college but in college is when I really developed a calling to the anti-trafficking field. I come from a large family and am one of 12 kids, eight of which were adopted. Being a big sister and more recently an aunt has been one of my favorite roles. I am an enneagram Nine. I believe being an enneagram Nine in a large family with lots of outside factors has give me a unique skill set and lens into crisis intervention, trauma, and peacemaking."

Applying Scripture verses like a topical bandage isn't really what we are meant to do with the Bible. However, there is a benefit in knowing what Jesus, the embodiment of the Author of Life, says about who we were created to be.

When we understand how our enneagram triads group us around primary emotions (anger, shame, and fear), we can use those emotions as signals to speak to the exiled parts of ourselves and bring them into new wholeness and re-integration. Jesus intimately understands our core longings, desires, and fears, and he has spoken in compassionate and healing ways to each of those unique pain points.

It may be a time of celebration of national freedoms, but we don't want to overlook the real freedom we have: the freedom from dis-integration and the freedom to pursue wholeness.

Listen as Deedra and Megan talk about the Pharasaical construct of holiness and how we all can get trapped in a transactional view of God. Also, what did the New Testament mean when it says that everything is "permissible" for believers? The answer lies somewhere in what is holiness versus what is wholeness.

On today’s episode, Deedra and Megan discuss enneagram stances in a new way. In episodes past, they’ve taught stances as grouping enneagram numbers by which center of intelligence is repressed. While that’s still a true part of stances, they now also agree that stances can be defined by our relational energy. Also, as part of the discussion, they consider how stance energy can also be used in our relationship to God and how sin is still more a part of the diSINtegration of our beings rather than simply a behavior we need to stop.

It’s an indication of what is going on beneath the surface. Happiness by definition is the feeling of pleasure or contentment as the result of favorable circumstances. Happiness can be found when our Spirit-led Self experiences moments of pleasure from a whole and free existence. We are wrapping up this enneagram and relationships series with two best friends: Lorna and Katrina! Lorna is a Six and Katrina is a Seven, and together they talk about how they meet each other in the middle of what each needs: planning v. spontaneity and quiet nights in v. exciting adventures. Realizing their types was a huge key in how they interact, and we are thankful they share their stories so openly!

Lorna is a creative communications professional (aka nerdy artist), with a heart for Jesus and social justice who loves sushi, boba, her dog, books, musicals, the color black, and using too many examples in an intro.

Katrina is a wife to Dan and bio/adoptive/foster mom to four children. She enjoys leading worship, meeting new people and serves as chief culture officer at Greenville University. She loves to share her Cuban heritage through food and can be found singing karaoke or dancing salsa in her living room at the end of a long week with her family.

Best friends and ministry co-directors Ginger and Annie join us to discuss how the enneagram plays in their relationship. Ginger is a 5, and Annie is a 1. They share how they learned about their types; how each of them has learned to lean into their strengths to pull up the other's weaknesses; how their numbers ebb and flow into stress and security; and why understanding the energy levels of both is so important.

Don't miss Episode 18, where Ginger talks all things enneagram Five.
To support Eden's Glory's fall fundraiser, check out Graze in the Grass.

In Reverend Ginger Coakley's own words: I am humbled that God called me to lead something like this. Eden’s Glory is an act of courage and obedience, EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. It is also an honor to have a front row seat to the transforming power and grace of God. In 2010 I was completely unaware that slavery still existed. When I heard, I devoured information from statistics to documentaries, to narrative accounts. I was heart broken at the reality. I was angered by the injustice, and I was CALLED to do something about it. So I quit my job, moved to Illinois, got married, bought a house, had a baby, and started a ministry all in the same year. Crazy! We have been open since September 2015 and I'm grateful to walk alongside survivors every day.

Annie Schomaker is a licensed clinical social worker with vast experience of casework, counseling, and training in her field. In 2004, God moved her heart to fight for the broken, the enslaved, and challenge systemic injustices and she has never turned back. Annie is the co-founder and lead program developer for Eden's Glory. MANY hours of learning, research, networking, writing, revising, wrestling, creativity, heart, and PRAYER have been given to the creation of a two-year treatment program for survivors of human trafficking. Annie leads us with a high standard, and with God's help and grace, to focus on the women and their pursuit of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and relational restoration.

In this episode, Deedra and Megan spend time answering some questions sent in by listeners such as:

  • Why would each number hesitate to start a relationship?
  • Which numbers pair well together...and which don't?
  • Do all enneagram Fives struggle to commit?

And then, in their usual way, they end up discussing why vulnerability is so important, and Megan shouts out a sermon by Pastor Melissa Pellmann about vulnerability and how Jesus made himself low to enter into relationship with us all.

Today is such a special episode! We have Deedra's daughters, Hope, Sav, and Lela, on to talk about the enneagram in sister relationships. The girls, ages 19, 18, and 18, represent all three numbers in the heart triad. They each talk about what that means in how they process feelings and how it manifests in conflict. They also discuss their different stances and how each of them has a different repressed center of intelligence.

Hope is an enneagram 3 and a junior in college. She's studying theater for healing, and you can find her on her Instagram: @hopemackenzi. Sav is an enneagram 4 and a sophomore in college. She's studying social work, and you can check out her podcast: Recommence. Lela is an enneagram 2 and starting her freshman year of college while doing a dance discipleship program.

We are so excited to share this episode! Kendall and Janell are best friends and business partners who run a coaching business together, but we don't want to talk about that right now. Instead, we are going to discuss how being an enneagram 9 and a 2 work in relationship! We dive right into managing conflict, making decisions, how each type moves towards stress and security, and how they've learned to call out the best in each other as they each work on inner healing. You don't want to miss this fun and vulnerable conversation!

Janell is a Chek Holistic Lifestyle Coach Level 2 and Level 2 Certified CrossFit Trainer, having coached CrossFit for 8 years. Kendall is a Certified Holistic Health Coach and is beginning a Master's in Counseling program. Together, they witnessed in their fitness and nutrition clients, a lack of results due to a lack of CONSISTENCY. They were able to recognize this because this was their story too. They had also struggled with the same issues their clients experienced, and they recognized that willpower ALONE was not enough to KEEP results. And, most alarming, there was a lack of JOY in the journey. So they asked WHY? And this began their journey of TRANSFORMATION. A journey they say never ends as they grow and expand...a journey they walk right alongside their clients--the Go.Be.Wild. Tribe.

We're kicking off a new series with this episode: the enneagram and relationships! We explore all types of relationships to see how different enneagram types interact with each other.

Today's episode explores the relationship between two sisters-in-law, Meg Amsden (type 1) and Kami Amsden (type 3). Meg and Kami married brothers, and their relationship has evolved into a close friendship. In this conversation, we discuss: packing for vacation by certain enneagram types; how Ones and Threes can bring out the best in each other; how the enneagram has shown up for each of them in difficult seasons of marriage and in parenting; and how the four of us can be awfully silly together.

We reference a lot of other thought leaders with books to read: Brenè Brown, Glennon Doyle and Abby Wambach, Emily and Amelia Nagoski.

Deedra and Megan explain the tagline of Dauntless Grace: connecting women to a meaningful story. They personalize that by enneagram type, and they also step on their soapbox to talk about why sin is not equal to behavior; sin is a byproduct of diSINintegration in our souls. Finally, they connect the miracles Jesus performed in the Gospels to the healing message each enneagram type needs to hear for the re-integration and wholeness they seek.

Deedra and Megan are recording from a youth conference in the mountains in Colorado and remembering their own teenage selves. If we could go back, what would we want to say to our younger selves? What do we wish we had known back then? Teens and young adults are trying to figure out how to move through the world in a way that makes them feel safe and loved, but the truth is, we are all affected by trauma in some form, and when we aren't aware of what triggers or floods that part of our brain, we tend to put up guards rather than connect to the love of the Father.

Deedra and Megan start by talking about why it's important to have crucial conversations, but they're not necessarily talking about having these conversations with others. They make the case why it's crucial to have a conversation within ourselves.
