Sharon Stuff: Recent Episodes

Meena Sharon Kim

Welcome to my podcast, Sharon Stuff! I will be talking about video games and anime. So, things like plot and favorite characters. Sharon Stuff is a solo podcast, but I would like to bring on guests from time to time. For the special guest episodes, I am going to allow any topic to be discussed. I think it would be fun to have random episodes like that.

Here's what we talked about in this episode:

-- Introductions

-- Graphics/Art Style

-- Plot

-- Gameplay/Mechanics

-- Characters

-- Misc. Things

Post Pod Notes:

When I say "this year" at the beginning of the episode (during the intro), I mean 2023.

FE: Engages's break game mechanic reminds me of Honkai Star Rail's and The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III/IV's Break Mechanic. They're not exactly the same, but pretty similar.

When defeating the Corrupted Emblem Antagonists (from past games), I didn't look at the description of the characters. I just considered their title (ex. Demon Dragon). During the episode, I may have said "description", but meant "title" instead.

I mentioned that I thought Kagetsu wearing glasses is meo-shee-seo (멋있어). That is Korean for cool or handsome.

When I start talking about Binding Blade, I mixed things up a bit. I actually played Roy's Paralogue in Engage FIRST, then saw the Let's Play episode of the map in the original game by Nitesco.

The priest guy I was trying to remember is Pandreo.

June Yoon is a fellow voice actor. Ryan and I have both received coaching from him.

The raw audio for this episode was about 2 hours and 50 minutes long. LOL. I managed to cut off quite a bit.

Here's what we talked about in this episode:

-- Introductions

-- Ryan's Anime Preferences (I briefly mention mine)

-- Honorable Mentions

-- Ryan's Top 10

-- My Top 10

-- Closing Remarks

Post Pod Notes:

I do feel like I am "kind of" leaning towards the Slice of Life genre of anime as I get older, but I still very much love watching shows like D-Gray Man and Sailor Moon.

My Genshin pulling luck is terrible. It's either 50/50 or guaranteed pity, no in-between. lol. At least, that's what it feels like and what I happen to notice usually. Although, Nahida came home pretty early, about 50 or less pulls.

It takes about 3 hours to drive from my house to Washington D.C. It takes not too much over 2 hours to drive to New York, which is what I was probably thinking when Ryan and I were recording this episode. D.C. is farther than I remembered.

The guy Ryan and I couldn't remember from Demon Slayer was Tomioka Giyu, the half/half robe, the better Sasuke guy. lol.

MY PODCAST IS BACK! For now. LOL. It feels really good to be podcasting again. I have a few more episodes planned/to work on, and then I may go on another hiatus. MAYBE! This episode was recorded on Oct. 8, 2022.

Here's what we talked about in this episode:

-- Introductions

-- Childhood/Past Crushes

-- Current Anime Crushes

-- Current Video Game Crushes

-- Other Crushes

-- Closing Remarks

Post Pod Notes:

The one character from Jujutsu Kaisen whose name I couldn't remember was Itadori Yuji. He isn't a crush, just wanted to mention that he's a favorite character of mine from the series. I also really like Inumaki Toge. He is a semi-crush for me. When talking about my Legend of Heroes: Trails crushes, I forgot to mention Rean Schwarzer. He's part of the reason why/how I got into the series in the first place. lol. I really like his Cold Steel III design. I also forgot to mention Kiro from Mr. Love: Queen Choice. I have never played the game, but I have seen some gameplay and screenshots/fanart of characters from the game.

I do have anime merch! I can't believe I forgot about the Dazai plush my best friend gifted me. According to Bulbapedia, the Pokemon move Hypnosis has a 60% or 70% accuracy rate depending on which generation the game is part of. Male and Female Robin have different supports with Chrom in FE: Awakening. The crazy bath stuff happens between Female Robin and Chrom.

I just wanted to clarify that in regards to Sword Art Online, I have only seen season 1 and 2. I believe I mentioned I saw things after those, and what I meant is that I saw the announcements being made on stuff on social media, not the actual episodes of the series themselves. Ryan and I have a mutual friend who goes by the name of PopSparkle. Sometimes we shorten her name to Pop.

This is the last episode I'll be posting for a while. In other words, my podcast will be on indefinite hiatus. I really want to take the time to focus on voice acting. I also changed the domain name of my website. It is now meenasharonkim.media. Ricky was a fantastic guest, and I would like to have him back on at some point in the future.

Here's what we talked about in this episode:

-- Introductions

-- Genshin Impact Identities

-- Thoughts on Genshin Impact (ex. story quests, events, hangouts)

Post Pod Notes:

I had started a Legend of Heroes: Trails Review series, but to be honest, I'm not sure I want to make my thoughts into podcast episodes anymore. I don't hate, but I also don't like taking notes as I play. I don't mind giving my thoughts on games and other things, but maybe I'll just talk what comes to mind, like for this episode about Genshin Impact. Maybe I didn't particularly like how I was organizing my thoughts. I didn't throw out the outlines I already made. I was thinking about putting my thoughts into Off the Pod notes, but maybe I will still record my thoughts. I haven't decided.

I prefer to use sword and polearm characters, but exceptions for me are Sayu and Childe. I don't use them a lot, but I do from time to time. I tend to use Sayu when fighting the Geo Cube by myself.

I want to edit my Vision Story a little. I believe at some point I mentioned how I met Ayaka and began helping her out. Instead of gaining my vision defending kids from hilichurls, I get it when I become an honorary member of the Yashiro Commission/Kamisato Clan. I always wanted to be someone to defend others if they need me, to give help when I can. I enjoyed helping my father at his restaurant, but I have a greater reach being with Ayaka and the Yashiro Commission and Kamisato Clan. I'll still help him out from time to time though. =D My resolve was strengthened after meeting Ayaka.

This episode was recorded before the 2.6 update.

The English VA of Itto is Max Mittelman.

When my best friend and I play together during our Beat Up Childe hangouts, nowadays, we fight Azhdaha, Childe, and the Raiden Shogun together. We used to fight all the weekly bosses and do level 5 bounties.

I think my best character in terms of crit rate/damage percentages is Ayato. I am getting better at choosing artifacts for my characters, but I will never be an expert. I believe Zhongli and Albedo when put on the same team have dealt the most damage for me so far. They deal at least 20K+ damage from time to time, which is a lot better than before.

The character stats that I mentioned in this episode are probably not the same as they are now. I gave Ayato a crown before Albedo. It was just easier to work towards giving Ayato his first crown before Albedo.

June and now Alex have taken on the Guess that Anime challenge given the plot. This episode and the episode with June Yoon were really fun to record.

I'm going to get rid of my podcast Twitter soon (relative to the posting of this episode).

Koro-sensei from Assassination Classroom Birthday: March 13.

I kept saying top 10 until I finally corrected myself with top 5, but.....uh......oops. lol.

June and I started recording a little after 8 PM PST (11 PM EST). We both had to work the next day, but it was especially late for me, and I had to wake up early the next day.

Sorry the "digitally" sounding audio especially with my audio at one part. The internet wasn't the greatest for me the day of recording. It actually dropped out for a little bit. I think the audio overall for me and my guest Alex is pretty good even still.

Here's what we talked about in this episode:

-- Pokemon World Identities

-- Pokemon Honorable Mentions

-- Top 10 Favorite Pokemon

-- Our Full Teams

-- Ending Remarks

Post Pod Notes:

When I tell Alex about the part in Pokemon Sun/Moon of Kukui being asked if he was cold, I meant to say League, not Center. I meant to say Kimono Girls not Ka/Komona Girls. There is a point in the podcast when Alex and I talk about the middle stages of starter pokemon, and the one time, I meant to say 2nd not 3rd. Dewott is a solid pokemon.

Other legendaries/mythicals I like include Celebi and Suicune. This episode was recorded the day before the Pokemon Legends Arceus release for North America. Alex and I live in the Eastern Standard Timezone. Alex meant to say Ghost not Gas when referring to Haunter's typing.

Thank you guys for being so patient with me and my podcast. I had so much fun talking with Alex about this episode's topic! I apologize for certain noises such as my chair creaking that I couldn't take out. I have a tendency to shift in my chair, so yeah. haha. The episode was recorded on October 23. There is a bit of mention of certain things that may not necessarily be the most accurate because of the time that has passed, but there shouldn't really be any confusion hopefully. Some distortions in sound are present because I kept peaking at times. Sorry about that. Got too excited. haha.

Here's what we talked about in this episode:

-- Anime Genre Preferences

-- Anime Series Honorable Mentions

-- Anime Top Ten

-- etc. (lol. there's some random bits at times, sorry for the catch-all term)

-- Ending Remarks

Post Pod Notes:

The "new" Cardcaptor Sakura I mentioned is Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card. The one character Alex and I were trying to remember was Maes Hughes. Violet Evergarden the Movie released on Netflix on October 13.

Aleks Le and Hiro Shimono are the English and Japanese voice actors respectively for Zenitsu in Demon Slayer.

I'm so sorry for the not so great audio. My friend and I were talking through Skype, and the audio from there was recorded. I'm sure our internet connections, along with other things, contributed to the quality. I tried to clean up the audio as best I could, but there are still many parts where the audio sounds robotic or whatnot. I think the audio is still okay to listen to, and I hope you enjoy this crazy awesome conversation. I was also a guest on his podcast, link will be further below. BTW, this episode was recorded a little over a month ago at the time of this episode's upload. There are a few things said, that aren't quite applicable anymore, which I'll explain below.

Here's what we talked about in this episode:

-- video games

-- pets

-- etc. (lol. there's some random bits at times, sorry for the catch-all term)

-- Ending Remarks

Post Pod Notes:

The guy from Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories whose name I know I wasn't remembering correctly was Heishin. The book series I bought, but never read was Little House on the Prairie. As mentioned before, the recording of this episode is not recent, but rather, it's been over a month. I am currently playing Trails of Cold Steel I, FE3H (Black Eagles - second playthrough), and Genshin Impact, but mostly Trails.

The Crossbell arc games (Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure) of the Legend of Heroes series arrive to Steam and similar platforms with official English localization in 2022 and 2023 respectively. The current latest Legend of Heroes game, at the time of this upload, (Trails into Reverie) will also be released on the same platforms as the Crossbell games in 2023. A spin-off game of the series, The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails, will also release in 2023.

My friend's podcast, Voicemail for the Soul, is also available on Apple Podcasts. It wasn't at the time of recording.

The podcast will be put on "hold" for the time being. I really want to devote more time to voice acting. I will work on the podcast when I can, but I cannot guarantee even once a month uploads anymore. I am not giving up on the podcast. It is a bit much to focus on both the podcast and voice acting at the same time. I was trying to build up two things at once, and I fear I may be stretching myself thin. It would be different if one of the two were already established well, but that is not the case. It isn't so bad right now, since I am not working, but I will have to get a job by the end of the year, and there's no way I'll be able to do all three, and still have time to relax so that I don't burn out. Maybe I can manage everything better as I become more skilled and things take less time to complete.

I have a website now! Check it out! :D | sharonstuffpod.com

-- Ending Remarks

Post Pod Notes:

When I say retro/8-bit, I admit that it's not the best way to describe Trails in the Sky's graphics. However, it definitely has an older style you don't really see as much these days. Not just with the style, but there have been advances in programming and such since the game was in development obviously. At some point I say background when a better word choice would have been backstory. A 200 CP S-Craft can output more damage if the character has stat buffs and/or has a critical turn.

Emulators are fine. That's on you to decide to use them to play games. I tried to insert an S-Craft in all three of the LIberl Arc games using my PS4 controller, and it didn't work. I was pressing all buttons and stuff. There are side quests technically in Pokemon, but they are hidden. There isn't some bulletin board where you can view quests like Trails. There are also side quests in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and there actually is a bulletin board to view them.

Ouroboros isn't super prominent outright. They slowly get introduced throughout the game and especially through the Professor. I feel like Joshua lost his sense of family when his sister died. He still had Loewe, but their relationship had changed. I will include images for the YouTube version of the podcast for game images. If you're listening elsewhere, you can easily google it. Sorry for not providing a link.

Links for Voice Acting Classes and Workshops:

At the time of this episode's upload, I have taken the VA101 course by Casting Call Club and will soon be going through the self-paced modules of The VoiceOver School. Some links I've found myself, while others were recommendations by peers/friends. As of the moment I am typing this, I can only really recommend Casting Call Club. I haven't gone through any of the modules of the VoiceOver School yet. A classmate of mine from VA101 did partake in a workshop by Brendan Hunter and really liked it. All the other links are simply considerations.

Post Pod Notes:

Sorry for the audio quality difference towards the beginning of the podcast. For those of you familiar with audio interfaces, I didn't have my phantom power turned on, when I usually do. The day of recording, I was actively recording on and off, which also meant I was plugging on audio interface into my computer and unplugging it. I turn the phantom power off before unplugging. I also want to apologize for the times I talk a little too fast. I hope you were able to enjoy the episode nonetheless.

Mercedes actually starts off with a training bow, which is probably why I thought to make her an archer.

I don't know why I said that mortal savants are the closest to my ideal fire emblem class. When editing this episode and specifically the part when I talk about this, I was like, I can't believe I didn't say holy/dark knight instead. These classes have magic, physical weapons and are mounted.

I forget if I mention this, but when I say schedule, at least for this episode, I mean my upload frequency.

-- Pre-End Game Talk between Edelgard and Dimitri

-- Solon/Mysterious Mages at End Game

Post Pod Notes:

There are fire emblem games where the parent(s) is/are alive throughout, but are usually not relevant (enough). You don't see them really. An example would be Eliwood's mother in Blazing Blade. His dad is more relevant to the plot for Eliwood mode/Eliwood's route, but he also isn't really seen until towards the end of the game, and unfortunately dies.

When Dimitri's father dies, Dimitri was young, but he was not a small child. He was about 14 years old. Also, perhaps he did know his father more than I made it out to be, but Dimitri's time with his father was still cut short.

Everyone had secrets or things that they simply didn't care to mention. I can understand why certain things weren't shared, whether it was because of personality or the nature/contents of the secrets themselves.

I apologize that's there's still clicking sounds and stuff in the audio. I was able to edit a good amount, but not all of it. I believe the issue is with myself and not so much my recording equipment. I need to improve in my speaking skills. A lot of the clicks come from being dehydrated and having saliva mouth essentially. I drank a lot of water the day of the recording, but either that wasn't enough or the saliva mouth for me is a bigger issue than I originally thought. In regards to editing the podcast audio as a whole, I did try using the Filter Curve and Compression in audacity. I don't think I used it perfectly, but perhaps I can get better at it as time goes by. I was really happy to use my audio interface for the first time for this podcast.

I want to apologize for the clicking sounds and stuff you'll hear in this podcast episode. I'll do my best to fix it for future episodes. I did as much as I was able when editing this episode.

Here's what I'll cover in this episode:

-- The order in which I played the Pokemon games

-- My Nintendo handheld consoles

-- Losing interest in Pokemon and then getting back into it

-- The Pokemon Anime

-- Ending Remarks

Post Pod Notes:

Feebas is much easier to catch in ORAS (Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire). The chance percentage increased, and you can use any rod. In the original Gen 3 Hoenn games, Feebas could only be found using a super rod on any of the 6 randomized tiles on the water in route 119.

I am NOT sponsored by Nihon Falcom, XSEED Games, or anyone else involved with the Legend of Heroes Trails games. I simply really like the games. I apologize that I forgot to say so in the podcast episode.

Pichu is not a very strong pokemon. According to Bulbapedia, Pichu's base stat total is only 205, with it's two lowest stats being HP and defense at 20 and 15 respectively. Also, Pichu evolves via high affection. Leveling up is one way to increase affection, but affection decreases when the pokemon faints. To train weak pokemon when the rest of your party is much stronger, usually people will use EXP share or switch training for instance. However, I wanted to limit switch training in favor of having Pichu battle against pokemon completely on its own so that it can have all to EXP, but I probably should have done it more.

My Nintendo Switch came TWO days after ordering it, and I don't have Amazon Prime. lol. Overall, Amazon's shipping speed even without Prime has gotten so much better than it used to be. I have had FE3H (Fire Emblem: Three Houses) since March 1, 2021, and I have been playing it every day since getting it at the time of uploading this podcast episode. I am currently going through a Blue Lions route. After finishing this route, I plan on choosing the Black Eagles. I don't plan on doing back-to-back play-throughs, but we'll see. Golden Deer will be last, at least in terms of initial run-throughs of each route, since I already saw two Golden Deer Let's Plays on YouTube by Xenoflux Raiden and Joe Zieja (voice of Claude).

Ash's battle against Elesa in the anime was 3 vs. 3 NOT 2 vs. 2. Also, Ash luckily doesn't stay an embarrassing newbie throughout the Black and White arc of the anime. He does get better throughout his Unova journey.

I wanted to provide the link to Pokemon Insider's YouTube Channel, and the Pokemon Let's Play or Nuzlocke I watched, but I think he deleted his channel. I tried to search for him, but came up short.

Post Pod Notes:

I just want to make sure it's clear that I really did enjoy attending that one GOT7 concert. It just could have been a better experience without that screaming fangirl. Again, it's awesome that she really loves GOT7, but yeah.

It wasn't super late like 11 PM late when I arrived at the bubble tea place for the interview, but I still felt bad about bothering my friends. I didn't get the job. It wasn't because the manager didn't want to hire me, but something about availability of work or something.

Rin and his brother Yukio, at least during season 1, have a good relationship. That relationship deepens even further by the end of the first season. Also, Rin doesn't go looking for fights, is nice and hardworking. He'll stand up for what he believes is right.

Sorry for the extra noises in this podcast episode. I tried to eliminate as much as I could. I tried not to hit or move anything on my desk unless I know for sure I can edit it out, but some things just happened without me realizing it. If you didn't notice anything, well, I am amazed at that.

Here's what I'll cover in this episode:

-- Becoming interested in Fire Emblem and the Legend of Heroes Series (specifically the Trails games)

-- Anime vs. Manga, Movies vs. Books (Watching vs. Reading)

-- Harry Potter Sorting Hat Quiz

-- Funny Stories from Middle School days

-- Ending Remarks

Post Pod Notes:

Fire Emblem Let's Plays I've Seen:

-- Sacred Stones

-- Awakening

-- Path of Radiance

-- Radiant Dawn

-- Echoes: Shadows of Valentia

-- Three Houses (Golden Deer and Ashen Wolves)

It may seem like I am bashing on FE: Blazing Blade, but I really do like the game. What I mention in the podcast in contrast to FE: Awakening is mostly me being nitpicky and are by no means deal-breakers in terms of enjoyment of the game.

The Legend of Heroes Games:

The Trails games are actually only one sub-series of the entirety of The Legend of Heroes. Two other sub-series came out before the Trails games, and they are Dragon Slayer and Gagharv. These sub-series also have games of their own.

Also, The Trails games are more evenly turn-based than what I make it seem. I still stand by that there is a tad bit of luck with the battles, but the distribution of turns also depends on how the battle is initiated. For example, if you attack an enemy from behind, you've initiated a preemptive attack. Your turn placements are more favorable. However, if you are caught by surprise by the enemy, the turn placements favor them instead. At least, in the beginning.

The Trails FROM Zero (not Trails TO Zero) and Trails to Azure games as well as Trails of Cold Steel IV are expected to be released for PC this upcoming summer. However, the former two games will not be available in English yet.

At the time of this podcast upload, I have already started the last chapter of Trails in the Sky. lol

Line Webtoons and Similar Apps:

Line Webtoon does offer coins for purchase to gain early access to the stories, but this is only applicable for the stories that fall under the Originals group. There are two sections for webtoons stories on Line Webtoons, Originals and Canvas. Originals are those that get updated at least once a week and are exclusive to Line Webtoons. Webtoons on Canvas are uploaded whenever by the author and if the author chooses to do so, can be uploaded to other platforms.

The other apps I mention do provide some sort of coin, gem, whatever to gain early access to the webcomics.

When I start talking about tofu in this episode, I just want to make it clear that I like to eat tofu as is, but also in other ways liked fried and in soups. I am trying to say that I like to eat tofu even when it isn't prepared in any particular way. I didn't word it the best way when recording, sorry about that.
