Will Jacks smashed a blistering 72, while Nathan Sowter spun his way to Player of the Match with 3 crucial wickets. And in the women’s final, the Northern Superchargers claimed their first title, with Annabel Sutherland sealing the win with a six in front of aroaring crowd of over 22,000.
In the Women’s Rugby World Cup, seven of the eight quarter-final spots are locked in. England, Scotland, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa, and France are through, with the final spot hanging in the balance between Australia and the USA after a thrilling 31-31 draw. It all comes down to this weekend’s pool deciders.
At Flushing Meadows, the second week of the US Tennis Open is serving up serious drama. Novak Djokovic is into the semis after a hard-fought win over Taylor Fritz, setting up a blockbuster clash with Carlos Alcaraz. On the women’s side, Naomi Osaka is back in form, Jessica Pegula is through, andAryna Sabalenka advances after Marketa Vondrousova’s injury withdrawal.

In tennis, Jannik Sinner faces a race to be fit and well enough to play in the US Open, starting this weekend, following his withdrawal due to sickness from the Cincinnati Open that handed the men's final to Carlos Alcaraz. In the women's event, Iga Swiatek finally overcame a gutsy performance by Italian Jasmine Paolini to won the final.

In golf, Justin Rose overcame the horrendous conditions andhaving to double up on his final rounds, to beat Tommy Fleetwood in a playoff thriller at the St. Jude Championship. The win gives the 45 year old veteran automatic qualification to this year’s Ryder Cup squad.
NASCAR’s rising star Connor Zilisch broke his collarbone falling off his car in Victory Lane while celebrating his Xfinity Series win.
We also have the latest in rugby league, where Salford Reds’players met on the bus before a record defeat, as the chaos continues at the club.
Meanwhile we have all the drama from cricket’s Hundred and One-Day Cups, and the amazing story of Victoria Mboko delighting home fans as the teenager won the Canadian Tennis Open, beating her childhood hero Naomi Osaka.

The fifth and final cricket test between England and India finished in excitement as India edged England by just 6 runs at The Oval, to level the series 2–2. The final twist? Injured bowler Chris Woakes, arm in a sling, walked out to bat in a last-ditch effort. It was cricket at its cruel and glorious best.
In Sydney the British & Irish Lions’ dream of a historicclean sweep in Australia was washed away—literally. A lightning storm halted play mid-match, and when it resumed, the Wallabies surged to a 22–12 victory in the final Test.
Meanwhile Mimi Rhodes stole the show at the Women’s Open with one of the most bizarre aces in golf history. Her tee shot on the par-3 fifth ricocheted off Stephanie Kyriacou’s ball—already inches from the hole—and dropped in for a freak hole-in-one in a snooker style rebound.

England’s Lionesses turned round their poor start in the Women’s Football Euros, answering their critics (Andy included) with resounding 4-0 and 6-1 wins over Netherlands and Wales. This sets up a cracking quarter final with the yetunbeaten Sweden.
The Cricket Test Series between England and India is turning into one of the all time greats. The third test at Lord’s had both sides wrestling the advantage across all five days, before England finally secured a 22 run victory. It was a welcome return for fast bowler Jofra Archer, playing his first test for four years due to injury.
The Lions continued their build up to Saturday’s First Rugby Test against Australia with a 48-0 win over an Australian/New Zealand invitational team. Scottish winger Duhan Van Der Merwe pushed his case for a place in the match day 23 with a well taken hat trick of tries.

We bring you the results from the Netball Super League Finalas London Pulse prevented Loughborough Lightning winning 3 consecutive titles with a 53-45 win at the O2 arena – we also look back at the success that revamping the league has brought to the game in terms of interest, support and finances.

We start Episode 204 with the news that England’s youngLions have won the Under-21 Euros in Slovakia, with an extra-time win over Germany. Meanwhile the Lionesses signed off their Euro 2025 preparations with a 7-0 friendly win over Jamaica in Leicester.
In Rugby Union the Lions had their first game on Australiansoil, overcoming a shaky start to run out 54-7 winners over Western Force. Their happiness was tempered by loss of scrum half Tomos Willima , the Welshman being ruled out by a hamstring injury. Ben White of Scotland now steps up toreplace him.
Wimbledon has started this week, so Tony runs the rule overthe hopes of the British contenders and picks out the ones to watch.
In cricket it was a record defeat for England’s Women intheir T20 match against India – meanwhile in the County Championship it was records of another kind at Surrey – not just for the most expensive pint of beer (£8.50!!) but also in scoring 820/9 after being put into bat by Durham.
And in netball we had the Super League semi-final, withLoughborough Lightning keeping alive their hopes of a third consecutive title with a 69-57 win over Manchester Thunder. Lightning will not play London Pulse in the final at the O2.

We kick off this week with Rugby Union, as the British andIrish Lions head off to Perth to start their tour of Australia. They arrive after an opening defeat against Argentina in Dublin in a game that was a superb performance by Los Pumas, and will have given the Lions coaches some challenges to ponder.
In Tennis it was Queens Club where Tatjania Maria fromGermany shocked fans, as the qualifier became the first women’s winner at Queens for 52 years, as well as becoming the oldest female player to win a WTA tour event at 37 years of age. In the men’s event, Carlos Alcaraz again playedbrilliantly to add another title to his collection.
In Cricket, England chased down 371 to win an enthrallingfirst test against India at Headingley. After India had dominated with the bat on day one it had seemed unlikely, but with Josh Tongue bowling through the Indian lower order in both innings and centuries for Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett,England stayed in the fight before the final day’s excitement. We also pay tribute to former England and Gloucester fast bowler David “Syd” Lawrence, who passed away from Motor Neurone Disease aged just 61.
Our guest this week is golf pro and regular contributor, AndyWild. He joins us to look back at the exciting US open on a very tough Oakmont Country Club course, where winner JJ Spaun from the USA was the only player to score under par for the week. Andy also casts his eye forward to next month’sOpen Championship from Portrush, as well as offering some tips on playing well in the heat (including his own, unique hydration tips!).

In Rugby Union we have the play off semi-finals, with Bath getting a cracking win over West Country rivals Bristol, whilst Leicester held on bravely against Sale to qualify for Saturday’s final at Twickenham.

In men’s and women’s cricket England have taken on the West Indies, with both beating their Caribbean opponents, with Joe Root becoming England’s highest ever One-Day run scorer.
We also have the latest from tennis’ French Open, as thatmoves into the business part of the tournament, whilst in the European Rowing Championship Great Britain topped the medal table with 6 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze.
With just one round left of the regular season, Netball’s playoff top 4 is already decided, but they will be playing for semi-final rankings this weekend – whilst in Rugby Union the final round saw the top 4 finalised, with a West Country derby between Bath and Bristol to look forward to.

Oscar Piastri won another thrilling Formula 1 Grand Prix inMiami, taking him to an early season16 point lead over nearest rival, team mate Lando Norris. And in our “Get a Grip” feature we fire a broadside at the ridiculous food and drink process charged at the Grand Prix and other sporting events.

It’s always the start of summer when the London Marathoncomes around – and we have the highlights from the race here. A world record number of finishers, a women’s only world record for Tigst Assefa and a Scottish women’s record for Eilish McColgan, whilst Catherine Debrunner set a course record in the women’s wheelchair race and fellow Swiss Marcel Hug won his fifth consecutive men’s wheelchair race.
England won their 4th Women’s 6 Nations Grand Slam in a row, but were pushed all the way in a nail-biting finish, beating France 43-42 to take the title. Scotland surprised Ireland with a magnificent last minute win to finish their season well, whilst Wales take the wooden spoon after a disappointing 44-12 defeat to Italy in Parma.
In football it was FA Cup Semi-Finals weekend, where our “Road to Wembley” sides went head to head – with Tony’s Crystal Palace winning out over Andy’s Aston Villa. We’ll now both be supporting Palace as they take on Manchester City (who beat Nottingham Forest in their semi). And in the Women’s Champion’s League, Arsenal beat Lyon 4-1 in their semi-final second leg, putting them into their first final for 18 years, where they will take on a Barcelona who will be buoyant after their 8-2 aggregate win over Chelsea.
In netball there were some tight, high-scoring games as Loughborough Lightning beat Birmingham Panthers 72-68 and Manchester thunder beat London Mavericks 59-54. London Pulse stay top, and unbeaten, following a 67-52 win over Cardiff Dragons.

We have an update on Andy’s trip to Leicester to watchEngland’s Red Roses win a rugby triple crown against Scotland. With France beating Italy, it sets up a Grand Slam decider between the two sides at Twickenham this weekend.
In the European football tournaments, Aston Villa’s amazingcomeback win against PSG wasn’t quite enough to make the Champions League semi-finals, but Arsenal had a memorable away win over Real Madrid that now sees them play PSG in he semis. In the Europa League Manchester United’s 3 goals in extra time cancelled out Lyon’s 2 extra time goals to give them an unbelievable 7-6 win. Spurs also made it into the semi finals with a 1-0 win. And whilst Chelsea lost the second leg of their Europa Conference tie, they went through to the last 4 thanks to a 4-2 aggregate score against Legia Warsaw.
League leaders Hull Kingston Rovers won the derby againstsecond placed Hull FC in the “Rivals Round” of Rugby League’s Super League, whilst Leigh moved 3rd with a win over Warrington, and Wigan beat local rivals St Helens to go 4th. Meanwhile in Netball it was a top of the table clash, with London Pulse beating Manchester Thunder 61-56 to extend their unbeaten start to the season to 5 games.
In cricket’s Indian Premier League, Rajasthan Royals openerVaibhan Suryavanshi set a record as the youngest ever IPL player. The 14-year old seemed unfazed as he hit his first ball for 6 on his way to 34. And West Indies Women’s team missed out on qualification for October’s World Cup by just 0.01 runs on net run rate – the first time in over 20-years that they’ve not qualified.

In football Liverpool took another step to the PremierLeague title after their close win, whilst title rivals Arsenal were held to a draw. Newcastle strengthened their push for a Champions League spot, as well as giving Andy Null & Void bragging rights with a 4-1 win over Tony’s Manchester United.
In the Women’s 6 Nations England made it 23 games unbeaten with a tough win over Ireland, France kept up their grand slam quest with a win over Wales and Scotland let slip a 12-10 lead in a home defeat to Italy. And in the European Champions Cup, Leinster and Toulouse marched into the semi-finals where they will face Northampton and Bordeaux with the winners progressing to the final in Cardiff.
In Formula 1 it was the Bahrain Grand Prix, McLaren’s OscarPiastri won, whilst George Russell’s Mercedes held onto second despite being challenged all the way by Piastri’s team mate Lando Norris.
And in Curling, Scotland’s Bruce Mouat’s rink became thefirst team ever to win four grand slam titles in one season as they beat Swiss Team Schwaller in a repeat of the World Championship final.

And in the lower leagues we have a fantastic feel good story after a lost American tourist was adopted by Southend fans and became a keen “Shrimper”.
In the Rugby League Road to Wembley, Tony’s Hull KingstonRovers made it to the semi-finals, but Andy’s allegiance now shifts to Catalans Dragons after they beat Salford. Bragging rights will be at stake in the semi-final as our teams play each other on 10th May as they vie for a place in the showpiece final at Wembley.
Golf’s US Masters takes place this weekend – the first majorof the year, so we have a preview despite the first day of practice being washed out by rain.
In Athletics it was the first event of Michael Johnson’sGrand Slam Track competition, where Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith took the $100,000 Long-Sprint purse for his 1st & 2nd places in the 200m and 400m respectively.

In Tennis, Novak Djokovic’s defeat to 19-year old JakobMensik in the final of the Miami Open leaves the Serb on 99 career ATP titles, whilst Mensik’s first comes just a couple of week’s after he nearly withdrew from the first round with injury!
And in Winter Sports, Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson wonBritain’s first World Championship Ice Skating medal since 1984 by taking bronze in the Ice Dancing in Boston.

We have all the latest from the World Indoor Athletics Championships, with golds for GB’s Jeremiah Azu and Amber Anning and the 1500m and 3,000m double for Jakob Ingebrigtsen; meanwhile it was the Reading Half Marathon this weekend and former guests of ours Sir John Madejski and Phil Wortley were both involved.
There was drama in the first Formula 1 race of the season with Ferrari’s drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles LeClerc both disqualified from the Chinese Grand Prix.

However Andy’s story this week is very different as he tells us about the horrific injuries he sustained in a skiing accident that left him with multiple fractures of his pelvis. The reformatted Netball Super League got underway, with new sides Birmingham Panthers and Nottingham Forest in action – and it was Panthers’ Betsy Creak who made history with the Super League’s first ever two goal supershot after that was introduced for this season.
In The Players’ Golf Championship at Sawgrass, Rory McIlroyovercame terrible weather and fading light as well as the rest of the field to secure the title – as play continued into Monday and St Patrick’s Day to give the Northern Irish man the win. Meanwhile Britain’s Jack Draper won his first ATP Tennis Masters Trophy, beating Holger Rune in the Indian Wells final – a result that takes him into the World Top 10 for the first time in his career.
Billy Carr then looks back at the League Cup Final, as wellas taking us through what could come in the final 9 games of the Premier League season, the hopes of the remaining English sides in the final stages of European competition, and answers -and asks – questions about Thomas Tuchel’s first squad as the new England manager.

With Andy working in the USA we have a man on the ground to report on the Rugby League extravaganza from Las Vegas, with sell out stadia and 10,000 fans attending the opening party on Freemont Street.
It was FA Cup 5th round weekend, and whilstManchester United and Newcastle both crashed out, we move one step forwards with our “Road to Wembley” teams.
England’s pitiful dismissal from Cricket’s Champions Trophywas all too predictable, also bringing the end of Jos Buttler’s time as captain after he resigned following defeat to Afghanistan.
Whilst some golfers may be lucky enough to hit a hole in oneduring their lives, in the South African Open Dale Whitnell managed to hit TWO in the same round, a feat that is reported to have odds of 64 million to one against happening.
In the Tokyo Marathon, British great Paula Radcliffe had afantastic finish to her first marathon in 10 years as she ran a time of 2 hrs 57 mins. And whilst Radcliffe has won many major titles, men’s winner Tadese Takele celebrated his first ever major marathon win as the Ethiopian finished in 2 hrs 3 min 51 secs.
Finally in our “Get a Grip” section we look at cycling andhow race organisers and the governing body are risking riders’ lives with some of the finishes, as well as the unreasonable attitude to cyclists from other road users in the UK.

Rugby League’s season kicked off with Super League’s veryfirst 0-0 draw, with champions Wigan finally losing to a Leigh golden point drop goal, giving Leigh a 1-0 win. At the other end of the scale, a severely weakened Salford were beaten 82-0 by St Helens in their opening game.
We preview the start of Cricket’s Champions Trophy whilstalso asking some tough questions about the ownership of the Hundred franchises after the sale of the 8 teams raised £975 million for English cricket.
And in Get a Grip we fire a broadside at Jannick Sinner andthe tennis authorities after a “settlement agreement” meant his lenient 3 month ban for a failed drugs test was also allowed to be taken at a time of his choosing, thus ensuring he avoids missing any Grand Slam events. Madness!
We kick off this week with a look back at the Super Bowl andthe brilliant performance of the Philadelphia Eagles in Denying the Kansas City Chiefs a 3rd consecutive title with a 40-22 win in the showpiece in New Orleans.

The Vitality Nations Netball Cup concluded in London withEngland winning their first title thanks to a 61-55 final win against South Africa, whilst Uganda won the 3rd place final, beating Malawi 50-45.
It was medals and world titles galore in the Winter Sportsthis week, with Matt Weston and Mia Brookes each winning back to back world titles in skeleton bob and big air snowboarding respectively. Meanwhile there were European Championship bronze medals for both the 2-man and 4-man British bobsleigh crews.
Our guest this week is former UK & World Championpowerlifter John Carney. Having retired last year John shares with us some highlights from his outstanding career and how he is now enjoying training for fun without the pressure of competing. John shares with us his post-retirement plans regarding coaching, and as John was someone who played American Football to a high level in the UK, he gives us his thoughts on Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Australia completed their humiliation of England in theWomen’s Ashes Cricket - a resounding innings defeat condemning the tourists to a 16-0 whitewash defeat. England’s male counterparts also slid to their worst ever T20 defeat, being all out for just 97 and losing by 150 runs.

Whilst in Rugby Union, Gloucester and Leicester were raising funds for MND with the Ed Slater Cup – in support of the second rower who played for both sides before retiring due to MND. Gloucester took the spoils 38-31.
In NFL we had the Conference Championship games.Philadelphia Eagles beat Washington Commanders to win the NFC title, and in the AFC game Kansas City Chiefs kept up their chase to become the first team to win 3 consecutive Super Bowls by beating the Buffalo Bills. So it will be the Chiefs against the Eagles in New Orleans for the Super Bowl on February 9th.
And in a new sport for Null & Void we have had the IceSwimming World Championships from Italy, where the water temperature gets so low (-10 c) that organisers have to break the ice with heavy axes before racing starts each day!

In tennis Jannik Sinner wrapped up another title with his win in Turin, whilst in the women’s Billie Jean King Cup, Great Britain were led to a quarter final victory over Canada thanks to singles wins by Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter – meaning they progress to take on Slovakia for a place in the final.

It was a tough weekend for the norther hemisphere home nations in Rugby Union, as Ireland lost to New Zealand, Scotland lost to South Africa, Wales had a record equalling 10th straight loss at home to Fiji and England yet again missed out in a close game, losing 42-37 to Australia.
In Rugby League we preview this Sunday's hybrid game for MND. A mix of former rugby union and rugby league greats will play in a cross-code game to raise funds for MND. The game was the brain child of former Rhinos player, Rob Burrow (who passed away from the disease last year) and former Leicester lock Ed Slater. In Tennis, Cameron Norrie made the final of the Moselle Open. Still working his way back from a 3 month injury lay off, Norrie played well to get to the final, but was then beaten by Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi.
And in Cycling, Sir Mark Cavendish brought the curtain down on a 19 year career, winning a sprint finish in the Tour de France Criterium in Singapore. Sir Cav was saluted with an emotional "Wheel of Honour" from other riders before the start.

Our guest slot sees the return of local triathlete Tom Mayor. In January we interviewed Tom as he shared his story of being diagnosed with a brain tumour whilst coaching football in America, and how he intended to run or cycle 10k a day for 10 months to raise awareness and funds for Brain Tumour Research to mark 10 years since his diagnosis. Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich set a new women’s world record in the Chicago Marathon with her time of 2 hours 9 minutes and 57 seconds taking nearly 2 minutes off the previous record. Meanwhile there were records galore in England Men’s team’s first test in Pakistan as England racked up 823, to win by an innings and 47 runs in Multan. Joe Root’s 262 helped him overtake Sir Alastair Cook as England’s highest ever test run scorer.

We then move to England Men’s Cricket tour of Pakistan, with the hosts racking up an impressive 556 in the first innings of the 3 match series. In the women’s T20 World Cup, England are sitting pretty with 2 wins from 2 games as Heather Knight’s side seek to top the group for the next stage, whilst Scotland have had two tough games, losing both – and they will be looking forward to facing the Auld enemy at the weekend.
In Rugby Union, England’s Red Roses went 2 from 2 in anentertaining win over New Zealand. They will now play hosts Canada for a winner takes all game in the final round of the Women’s WXV Division One. Meanwhile in New Zealand, England’s Vitality Roses signed off their tour down under with a 2-1 series win over New Zealand’s Silver Ferns.

Firstly it calculated a win for the hosts that kept the series alive, but then in the decider at Bristol, rain meant DLS was in use again with Australia winning to take the series 3-2. In the domestic game, rain relegated Lancashire from Division 1 in the County Championship, whilst rivals Yorkshire celebrated promotion by posting 726 against Northants.
England’s Netball tour of the Antipodes had a narrow 2-1series defeat for the Red Roses as they lost the decider 61-59 to Australia. They moved on to New Zealand, where they won the series opener 59-58 against the Sliver Ferns.

In Cricket, rain robbed fans of the final T20 betweenEngland and Australia, leaving the series tied at 1-1, whilst Ireland’s Women bounced back from a heavy defeat in the first game in Dublin to draw the series against England’s Women – thanks to a 5-wicket win on Sunday.
In Formula 1 Lando Norris was able to narrow the gap to Max Verstappen with a 4th place finish in Azerbaijan as McLaren team mate Oscar Piastri driving well to win.
And finally we have the results in from the World StoneSkimming Championships in Easdale-where the final “Toss Off” went to a sudden death shoot out before Simon Power was crowned Open champion for 2024.

With the Paralympics having closed this weekend in Paris, we kick off the episode with a look back at some of the highlights as Team GB finished with 49 golds and 124 medals.

We kick off Episode 164 with a look back at the enthrallingfirst Cricket test between England and Sri Lanka, that looked to be in the balance until Joe Root’s unbeaten 62 secured the win for England. This was after wicket keeper Jamie Smith had hit his maiden test century in the first innings
At St Andrew’s it was the Women’s Open Golf, where New Zealand’s Lydia Ko triumphed in a very close final round, not only beating rivals Lilia Vu and Ruoning Yin but also gale force winds to win by 2 strokes to add the Open title to the Olympic Gold she won just two weeks earlier.
Olympic champions were also in action in Athletics’ Diamond League events-with Jakob Ingebritsen getting revenge on Olympic gold medal winner Cole Hocker in the 1500m in Lausanne, before going on to beat the men’s 3,000m record in Silesia. This record had stood for 26 years. Meanwhile the pole vault record of Armand DuPlantis had not even stood for 26 days before he broke it again, adding another centimetre to take the record now to 6.26 metres.
In football we pay tribute to former England manager SvenGoran Erikkson, who sadly passed away aged 76, after a long battle with pamcreatic cancer. We also have then surprise news of England winning a football World Cup on penalties, after the Men’s Over 75 team beat hosts Wales on spot kicks. However Wales were triumphant later in the day as their over 70’s team won their tournament, with a shoot out win over a team from the USA.
And this week’s Get a Grip pours scorn over theInternational Paralympic Committee (IPC) after they doubled down on a ruling that means if Paralympians could face disqualification from events and annulment of medal results if they have a tattoo of the Olympic Rings showing. The ruling basically bans the Olympic logo at the Olympics. Madness!
We start by looking back at the finals weekend in Cricket's Hundred. London Spirit won the Women's title, whilst Oval Invincibles became the first men's team to retain their crown after beating Southern Brave- who's Eliminator game on Saturday was the first to be decided by a "Super 5".
With the US Tennis Open fast approaching, players geared up with the Cincinnati Open. Anya Sabalenka won the women's final for her first title since January, whilst Jannik Sinner became the youngest winner of the men's title since Andy Murray in 2008.

The World Para-Athletics championships finished in Kobe with Hannah Cockroft securing her 16th World Championship gold medal- and in the Eugene Diamond League meet, Keely Hodgkinson and Jake Kerr both had statement wins just 2 months out from the Olympics., with Kerr also breaking the British Mile record in the process.
Our guest this week is Harry Brightmore, who joins us fresh from coxing the GB Men’s Rowing 8 to a gold medal in the World Cup Regatta in Lucerne. Harry talks us through how he got into rowing, and his history in the sport right up to the weekend’s gold. As well as looking back at Lucerne, Harry also shares the gruelling timetable between now and Paris, as well as the aspirations he and the crew have for Olympic gold.

We have another fantastic episode for you this week, bringing you the latest from 10 sports. We kick off with a wrap up of the final day in both the Premier League and Women’s Super League football-with Manchester City winning a fourth successive title in the men’s, and Chelsea securing their fifth successive crown in the women’s.
In Rugby League it was the Challenge Cup semi-finals, with Wigan & Warrington booking their places in the men’s final, and in the women’s final Leeds & St Helens will do battle for the third final in a row – with both games taking place at Wembley on 8th June. Meanwhile Rugby Union’s final round in the Premiership saw Northampton, Bath, Sale and Saracens secure their places in the play-off semi-finals.
It was a gold rush for British athletes at the World ParaAthletic Championships in Kobe, with Hannah Cockroft winning her 7th 100m world title, and Hollie Arnold her 6th in the javelin. But special mention needs to go to Sabrina Fortune, who broke the world record twice on her way to shot putt gold.
We follow your contacts with Get a Grip, where we aim abroadside at the lunacy of Newcastle, Spurs and the Arsenal women’s sides in flying out to Melbourne to play a set of meaningless end of season friendlies immediately after a gruelling domestic campaign-showing a complete disregard for both player welfare and their carbon footprint.

This week marks a special milestone as it’s our 150thepisode – and to celebrate we’re bringing you the regular smorgasbord of sports that you all love.
We start with football, where a fantastic Ella Toone goal kick started Manchester United in winning their first Women’s FA Cup. For their male counterparts a 1-0 loss to Arsenal amidst the Old Trafford floods means it’s advantage Man City over the Gunners in the final week of the Premier League.
In Rugby Union the play off chase also goes to the finalweek, although Northampton not only had a league record 90-0 win over Gloucester, but secured their place with a week to spare. Play off places were also up for grabs in Netball’s Super League; Manchester Thunder secured their spot with a 63-44 win over Cardiff Dragons, whilst wins for Loughborough Lightning and London Pulse all but guaranteed them semi-final spots.
In Tennis, Novak Djokovic managed to get knocked out twice- firstly from a metal water bottle and secondly from 29th seed Alejandro Tabilo!
Our guest this week is Simon Cowlard, who has raised over £26,000 for Multiple Myeloma since being diagnosed with the blood cancer in early 2022. Simon returns to give us an update on his journey, as well as share his latest fundraising effort, which will see him and a team of friends walking between the grounds of all London’s Premier League and Football League clubs.

It was the European Cup semi-finals in Rugby. Leinster held on for a 20-17 win over Northampton Saints in front of a record 82,500 crowd at Croke Park, whilst Harlequins went down 38-25 to five times champions Toulouse.
In Netball, it was a top of the table clash betweenManchester Thunder and Loughborough Lightning, with the Mancunians winning 61-57 to stretch their lead at the top of the table to 3 points. As the Madrid Tennis open come to a conclusion, World number 1 Iga Swiatekt beat World number 2 Anya Sabalenka in the women’s final, whilst Andrey Rublev won out over Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in the men’s.
We have an amusing update on contacts, before giving RFU CEO Bill Sweeney the Get a Grip treatment for putting greed over growth when talking ticket prices for Red Roses matches at Twickenham.
With the Champions League at semi-final stage and thePremier League with just 12-days to go, we bring back football correspondent Billy Carr to give us his thoughts on how these final games could pan out and who he sees as the potential winners and losers at the end of the season.

It was the London Marathon this weekend, so we start Episode 147 with a look back at this fantastic event - including a women's world record for Kenya's Peres Jepchirchir and a record £67 million raised for charity.
In the FA Cup semi finals, Manchester City defeated Chelsea, whilst their local rivals Manchester United had a late scare when Coventry had a potential winner chalked off in the final minute of extra time. Having thrown away a 3-0 lead, United finally scraped through on penalties and will face City in a repeat of last year's final.
In Rugby Union, England's Red Roses secured the triple crown in a 14-try win over Ireland in the Women's 6 Nations. France beat wales 40-0, to set up a grand slam showdown with England in Bordeaux - whilst Scotland rounded out the weekend with a first win in Italy since 1999.
We also bring you the latest from Netball, Rugby League, Formula 1 and a Pole Vault world record in China - whilst Andy again tries, unsuccessfully, to explain the intricacies of reading the scores in Hurling and Gaelic Football!

In football’s Premier League there were surprise defeats for Arsenal and Liverpool, meaning Man City went back to the top of the table in what promises to be a very close final 6 games. In the Women’s FA Cup SemiFinals, Spurs beat Leicester and Man Utd beat Chelsea to secure their places in the Wembley Final on 12th May.
It was Rugby’s European Champions Cup Quarter Finals. Quins played out another nail biter, beating Bordeaux to make the Semi Finals for the first time. They are joined by Toulouse, Leinster and Northampton Saints. And in Rugby League’s Challenge Cup wins for Wigan, Huddersfield, Warrington and Hull KR meant that they all progress to next month’s Semi Finals.
There was a world first in the Manchester Marathon, where Yahya Pandor became the first blind runner to participate in a marathon without being attached to a guide. He finished in an amazing time of 4 hours 22 minutes.
And in Get A Grip we take a swipe at the Paris Olympicsorganising committee, who despite having had 7 years to identify a solution, are now proposing cancelling the swim leg of the triathlon and the 10km open water swim due to dangerous E-Coli levels in the River Seine. We send them a well-deserved “Prendre Une Prise!”
We kick off Episode 145 chatting about the amazingachievement of Russ Cook – known as the Hardest Geezer – who this week finished running the length of Africa. Taking 352 days he ran the 16,000 km from South Africa to Tunisia overcoming armed robbery, serious illness and visa challenges on his way to raising over £500,000 for charity.
Cricket’s County Championship started this week – hence all the rain! But Glamorgan’s Captain Sam Northeast set a new record for the highest individual score at Lord’s with his 335 not out. Meanwhile England’s Women’s team finished their tour of New Zealand with a defeat, but still won the one-day series 2-1 to round out a successful winter.
We have updates from the British Swimming Championships at the London Aquatic Centre, where swimmers such as Adam Peaty, Ollie Morgan, Dan Scott and Freya Colbert all secured their spots for the Paris Olympics.
Get a Grip this week aims a broadside at the various committees in Irish basketball, who have decided that the last 0.3 seconds of the Portlaoise Panthers- Limerick Sport Eagles cup quarter final must be replayed due to a controversial call by the umpires at the end of the original game. Utter madness!
Our guest this week is a returning listener favourite - the fantastic Viki Monk, captain of the There She Rows team that became the fastest ever British female crew to row the Atlantic. Viki gives us a brilliant insight into what the race was like, from dealing with 30-foot waves and sea-sickness to watching sunsets and pods of whales. Viki and her teammates undertook this challenge to try and turn the tide for women’s sport, inspiring girls and women everywhere to be involved with their own sporting endeavours. They have achieved that and so, so much more. A truly inspirational listen.

We start Episode 141 looking back at England's last minute rugby win against Ireland, Italy just holding off Scotland and France running rampant in the final 20 mins v Wales.
In women's football it was cup action, with Chelsea and Arsenal progressing to the league cup final, whilst in the Women's FA Cup Spurs and Leicester have made the semi-finals for the first time, and in the other tie Manchester United will play quadruple chasing Chelsea.
Tony is a regular supporter of the local Goring 10k run, spending time walking between the bridges on the course cheering on the runners. He tells how a mishap led to him clocking up a few extra kms!

We kick off Episode 140 with a look back at a fantasticWorld Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow, with British athletes finishing with four medals, including golds for pole-vaulter Molly Caudery and 3,000 metre runner Josh Kerr, 800 metre silver for Gemma Reekie and bronze for the 4x400 metre women’s relay team.
In football, bottom of the table Sheffield United were the latestteam to get hit for six by Arsenal, whilst the Forest coach and even Chairman were given red cards after a controversial late winner for Liverpool. The 1-0 in puts the reds back at the top of the Premier League table – 2 points ahead of Manchester City (who beat 3-1 in the Manchester derby).
In Rugby League Saints stay top after a 12-4 win over Leighin a game that saw a yellow card after just 40 seconds! In the basement battle, Hull FC got their first win of the season with a late 28-24 win over bottom side London Broncos. In the Union code it was double delight for Cambridge University in the Varsity Match, with the women’s team beating Oxford 10-5 and the men running away with a 56-11 win to retain the cup from last year.
The Formula One season started in Bahrain and Red Bull’s MaxVerstappen picked up where he left off last season, beating team mate Sergio Perez into 2nd place, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in 3rd. But off the track there is big controversy surrounding FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and allegations of inappropriate Whatsapps sent by Red Bull Principal Christian Horner.
And finally in Tennis it was a first ever WTA win for BritKatie Boulter in San Diego, whilst in Snowboard Cross, Charlotte Bankes claimed her 2nd successive gold in the World Cup in Sierra Nevada.

In football's Women's Super League (WSL), Manchester City drew level at the top of the table with reigning champions Chelsea, after City won 1-0 in the clash between the two.
It was the start of Rugby League's Super League season, with the unveiling of exciting new laws - whilst we also fire a deserved "Get a Grip" broadside at the Rugby Football League and their marketing consultants for their ridiculous plans to have Super League places decided by spreadsheets. It was also the start of the Netball Super League season, with champions Loughborough Lightning starting with a win, but Manchester Thunder showing that they will be right in the mix.
With the final week of the World Aquatic Championships in Doha there was double gold in the 800m & 1500m for Ireland's Daniel Wiffen, whilst in the UK Indoor Athletics Championships Gemma Reekie set a new 800m championship record, Laura Muir was dominant in the 3000m and Molly Caudery booked her place in the GB squad for next month's World Championships in Glasgow with a season leading result in the pole vault.

In athletics we have the sad news of the death of marathonworld record holder Kelvin Kiptum, who was killed in a car crash aged just 24 –a real loss to the distance running world. In New York Josh Kerr and Laura Muir were both breaking records winning the indoor 2-mile event, whilst Gemma Reekie won in France, meaning all 3 are building nicely towards next month’s indoor world championships in Glasgow.
Our guest this week is Colin Wood, a local triathlete whoqualified for last year’s Ironman World Championships in Nice. Colin shares with us his story- how he got into triathlon, how just 6 weeks before his first Ironman he could only swim a couple of lengths of the pool and how he manages to fit his training around his roles in the police and as a single father to 3 children. A truly amazing guy with a great story.

In Formula 1, with just 4 weeks to go until the start of this season, Lewis Hamilton announced that he will be leaving McLaren at the end of the year and will be joining Italian giants Ferrari.
This weekend sees the San Francisco 49ers take on reigning champions Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. It'll be a late start with a UK time of 1130pm for kick off, and we run the rule over the hopes of both teams.

In football it was the FA Cup 4th round and Manchester United held off a spirited fight back from Newport to make it through alongside Newcastle, Manchester City and Liverpool. Meanwhile Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp shocked the football world announcing he will step down at the end of the season.
In NFL we have the two teams confirmed for Super Bowl LVIII.Kansas City Chiefs beat the Ravens 17-10 to keep their hopes of back-to-back titles alive, whilst the San Francisco 49ers came from behind for the second week running to beat the Detroit Lions and book their place in Las Vegas for the 11th of February.

Brit Lucy Charles Barclay broke her Kona jinx, winning theIronman World Championships for the first time after four runners up finishes –and in Mexico Dr Stuart Gillett won an international DecaIronman, swimming 24 miles, cycling 1120 miles and running 262 miles on his way to raising £22,000 for Bristol Hospital.
And finally, the NFL was in town again this week, with the Titans playing the Ravens at Tottenham Hotspur. Andy was one of the 61,000 crowd and brings us updates on the game, the cheerleaders and the match daycuisine!

Our guest this week is Bob Grantham, a Corporal in the RAF. Bobshares with us how an injury he sustained completing an Ironman triathlon led to him representing Team UK in the Invictus Games in Germany in September, where he came home with a bronze and silver medal in the cycling. A truly fantastic achievement.

Following the flurry of cards and varying refereeing decisions in the first games of the World Cup, we encourage the match officials and World Rugby to get a grip and get more consistency in their decisions.
In Episode 117 we are joined by two professional tennis coaches, Justin Cook and his daughter Libby , as they share their thoughts on some of the standout performances from week one at the US Open and their predictions for the finals this weekend. Libby also gives some insights into what the atmosphere is like at the event, and how it differs from some of the other majors around the globe.
Whilst it was business as usual for Max Verstappen as he won the Formula 1 Italian Grand prix at Monza, this win was special as it gave him a record 10th consecutive win, leaving him on the cusp of winning the driver’s championship.
It’s finely balanced in both the men’s and women’s T20 cricket internationals. England’s men dominated New Zealand in the first two matches, but the Black Caps hit back to trail the series 2-1 with one game to play. Meanwhile in the women’s matches, England beat Sri Lanka in a rain affected first game, but Sri Lanka levelled the series in convincing style to leave everything to play for in Wednesday’s decider.
In Rugby League, Wigan’s win over Salford meant they overtook Catalans at the top of the table, whilst at the bottom defeats for Castleford and Wakefield mean that there are still only 2 points between them in the relegation fight, with just 3 games left. Leigh and Huddersfield could possibly hold the record for the longest ever game – after the lights failed at Leigh on Friday night, they came back and finished the final 38 minutes of the game on Sunday afternoon! And in rugby union, all of the teams have headed off to France ahead of the tournament starting this weekend, when the hosts take on New Zealand on Friday night.
We also bring you, for the first time, news from the World Stone Skimming Championships – where the participation of current holder Christina Bowen-Bravery is in doubt after she suffered a freak injury.

England’s Lionesses will play Colombia for a place in the semi-finals after a hard fought win on penalties over Nigeria.

World Cup fever grips Episode 112 of Null & Void this week, as we also welcome Iraq and Singapore into the Null & Void family as they become countries 40 & 41 to join our listenership.

At the British Open Golf America’s Brian Harman had a convincing 6 shot win in the wind and rain in Liverpool to take an unexpected first major title.

It may be summer holiday season, but the sporting drama doesn’t take a break!
We start with Tony & Andy’s thoughts on their Washes road trip. Despite Australia retaining the urn it was a superb game and atmosphere, fitting of a series where the best two teams in the world have gone toe to toe.
It was Wimbledon finals weekend, with new names added to both the men’s and women’s singles trophies. Brits Alfie Hewitt and Gordon Reid won their fifth wheelchair doubles title, Neil Skupski won the men’s doubles and teenager Henry Searle claimed the men’s junior title.
We have a preview of the Women’s Football World Cup that starts in New Zealand and Australia this week, with Tony highlighting some of the teams and players to look out for.
We have our usual summary of Rugby League and Rugby Union- including the ridiculously lenient suspension for Ireland’s Jonny Sexton- updates from the Tour de France, where a fan taking a selfie caused a 20-rider pile up, and a brilliant haul of medals for British athletes at the World Para-Athletics Championships.
With the British Open Golf starting at Royal Liverpool this week, our guest is golf professional and friend of the show Andy wild. Andy shares with us his predictions for the tournament, as well as some of the great features of the course which competitors will need to conquer if they want to get their hands on the Claret Jug on Sunday.
We start this episode with the wins for England’s men in the Mashes test at Headingley and the women’s team winning the Washes T20 game to keep the series alive in front of a record crowd at Lord’s.
The England Under 21 men’s football team followed the example of the Lionesses in winning the European Championships, beating Spain 1-0 in dramatic fashion as goalkeeper James Trafford saved a last-minute penalty to secure the trophy.
In Wimbledon updates we look at the seemingly unstoppable progress of Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles, the surprise defeat of world number one Iga Swiatek in the women’s singles, and an unusual retirement due to blisters.
It was a disappointing end to the Tour de France for Mark Cavendish. The Manxman was denied a record 35th career stage win on Thursday and then crashed on Saturday and had to pull out of the tour with a broken collarbone.
We also bring you all the latest from Rugby (League and Union), Formula 1, Golf, the Athletics British Championships (And Andy’s 17th consecutive annual rejection from the London Marathon) as well as a report on the extortionate prices for a 99 ice cream at Lord’s!

In this week’s episode we kick off with a look back at the US Open Golf and an unexpected win for Wyndham Clark on a really exciting final day. Also hats off to Andy Wild, who’s predictions last week all finished in the top 20 (with 3 out of 4 in the top 10).
We have to talk about the first men’s Cricket Test between England and Australia from Edgbaston – where England lost by just 2 wickets in a fantastic advert for the red ball game, where advantage switched constantly between the 2 sides before Australia got across the line in the final afternoon. We also look forward to the Women’s Test at Nottingham, with England giving a debut to fast bowler Lauren Filer, whilst batter Danni Wyatt gets her first test start after 247 white ball caps.
With so much other sport happening, the euro football qualifiers come later in the show, as we discuss England’s 2 wins. Scotland also made it 2 from 2, but their game against Georgia was held up when stadium staff were required to brush the rainwater from the pitch.
In a strange story for us, Daniel Connolly won the man v horse race – an event in Wales where 4-legged and 2-legged entrants compete across a 22-mile course. Connolly came in 10 minutes ahead of first horse home, DNS Ronaldo.
And we finish off with not 1, but 2 Get a Grips! Tony vents his ire at Uefa’s minimal punishment of Jose Mourinho and Andy looks at New Zealand’s game against Qatar being called off at Half-Time due to racism.

It was Rugby’s European Champions Cup Final, with holders La Rochelle fought back from 17-0 down to beat home side Leinster 27-26 in an enthralling final. This weekend also saw Ospreys, Wales and Lions greats Alun Wyn Jones and Justin Tipuric announcing their retirement, ruling them out of Wales’ plans for the upcoming World Cup in the autumn.
In a first for Null & Void we look at Wheelchair Basketball, following the British Premier League final where Manchester Revolution just edged out London Titans 63-61.
And for the second week running we set the sights of Get a Grip towards Twickenham, this week telling the Rugby Football Union’s Chief Executive Bill Sweeney to get a grip on the financials as the governing body in England face a financial black hole of between £50-70 million over the next 18 months.

England fast bowler Katherine Sciver-Brunt announced her retirement from the international game. After 19-years, 267-caps and 335 wickets the treble Ashes, double ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup winner hangs up her spikes as one of the greats of English cricket.
It was the final regular season weekend in Rugby Union’s Premiership, with European places still up for grabs, and in Rugby League the Catalans’ pre-match entertainment of a parade of prize winning cattle went wrong with one of the bulls breaking loose and chasing round the startled players.

Victoria Monk is part of the team “There She Rows” – these four women not only broke a record for carrying a rowing boat 100-miles over the South Downs but are also rowing 3,000-miles across the Atlantic to raise awareness of the number of girls and women who drop out of sport each year, and to try and inspire them back in (as well as raising funds for 3 great charities).

In our sports round up, Andy was part of a world record crowd of 58,498 in the Women’s 6 Nations at Twickenham as England secured the Grand Slam with a 38-31 win over France. In the Premier League, Manchester City have overtaken Arsenal in their chase for a treble, whilst Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp injured his hamstring while celebrating his team’s late winner over Tottenham.
In Athletics we have a new, bizarre world record from the London Marathon, and we also cover the controversy in the Marathon Des Sables as the leader and local favourite, Rachid El Morabity, withdrew from the race after receiving a time penalty for allegations of receiving outside help.
And in Netball’s Super League the race for the title is hotting up with London Pulse defeating Manchester Thunder and Surrey Storm to go top of the table moving towards the play offs.

The US Master Golf kicks off this weekend, so we have a preview – including the retirement of former winner Sandy Lyle and the stunning scenery of the famous Augusta course.
In Rugby Union we discuss England’s dominant display over Italy in the Women’s 6 Nations and France’s big win over Ireland – that keeps the two teams on course for a Grand Slam finale at Twickenham at the end of April. And in Rugby League it was the 4th round of the Challenge Cup, where the teams outside the Super League are competing for the final 4 places with the top teams in the 6th Round.
We also have a slew of records in Athletics and Cricket, and in Horse Racing Doddie’s Impact – named after Scotland rugby player and Motor Neurone Disease campaigner Doddie Weir – won in the first weekend of the flat season, with his owners making a significant donation from the prize money to the MND charity that Doddie set up.

In Episode 95 we start by looking back at the weekend’s Boat Race, with Cambridge University taking a clean sweep in all four races on the River Thames.
With the Reading Half-Marathon coming up this week, Tony talks about the part he played in the race having an iconic finish in the football stadium. And whilst he isn’t training for a race this year, we also celebrate Tony’s consistency with this week marking 3 years of him setting himself the challenge of training two times every day.
The Women’s Six Nations Rugby kicked off with three great games – convincing wins for England and Wales, and a hard-fought win for France. England captain Sarah Hunter signed off a wonderful career at her home club Newcastle. Meanwhile at Tottenham Hotspur's stadium, Andy & Billy Carr (our Football Correspondent) were watching Saracens v Harlequins and trying to deal with leaky pint pots!
In our “Get a Grip” feature we call out the hypocrisy of Premier League football clubs, with many of them holding “green football days” and preaching to fans about carbon neutral, whilst themselves flying to over 80% of away games.
In Episode 94 we kick off looking at the FA Cup quarter-finals, and the madness at Old Trafford that saw Fulham have two players and their manager sent off as they lost 3-1 to Manchester United.
Continuing with red cards, in Rugby, England’s Freddie Steward was sent off in their defeat by Ireland. This win meant the men in green sealed the 6 Nations title and Grand Slam, whilst France sealed runner up spot by beating Wales and Scotland finished a good season with a close fought win over Italy.
Two legends of women’s sport announced their retirements this week. England Rugby captain Sarah Hunter plays her last game on Saturday against Scotland, after a 16-year career that has included winning the World Cup and multiple Grand Slams, as well as being England’s most ever capped player – both women’s and men’s. Maddie Hinch has been England and Great Britain goalkeeper for 15 years, winning gold at both the Olympics and Commonwealth Games during her 186 caps. Two greats, who have both done so much for women’s sport.
This week’s guest is Darryl Saunders, Chairman of Langley FC. He joins us to chat through how he got involved with the club, as well as the great plans for making the club a key asset in the local community by developing the off-field facilities to match the ambitious aspirations on the field. A club that is definitely going places.
In Episode 93 we discuss the fallout from the Gary Lineker and BBC situation, and ask whether both sides could have handled things differently?
Getting back on the field – where we much prefer to be – we look back at the weekend’s 6 Nations Rugby and England’s humbling at the hands of France, Ireland’s next step towards a Grand Slam in Edinburgh and a Welsh win in Rome. In the Northern variant of Rugby (League) we run through the results from the weekend, with Warrington and Catalans continuing their unbeaten starts to the season.
In Cricket, Bangladesh completed a 3-0 series win over England in the T20 series, but there is a silver lining for the Three Lions team with the appointment of Australian bowling coach David Saker ahead of this year’s Ashes and World Cup.
Hurling gets a first ever appearance on our show, with Andy having been hooked by coverage of the bottom of the table battle between Antrim and Laois with Antrim’s win condemning the visitors to having to play off for their Division One future.
In Athletics we mourn the sad passing of Dick Fosbury- the man who revolutionised the high jump with his “flop” jumping style.
We’re joined by our football correspondent Billy Carr, to give us the latest at both the top and bottom of the Premier League as well as how he sees things playing out as the title and relegations races enter their final lap.
Yet again another fantastic episode.
In Episode 92 we say a big “Shalom” to Israel as they become country number 38 to join the Null & Void family.
We open by looking at the success for Great Britain’s athletes in the European Indoor Athletics Championships, with Laura Muir, Keely Hodgkinson and Jazmin Sawyers all taking gold in Istanbul. Meanwhile in the Women’s Pentathlon event, one competitor broke the world record only for it to be broken 6 seconds later!
As you’d expect we do a post-mortem on Manchester United’s 7-0 defeat to bitter North-West rivals Liverpool. Andy takes great delight in Tony’s discomfort-although United’s women’s team going top of the Women’s Soccer League (WSL) does provide some silver lining for Mr Grundy!
In Rugby Union, Marcus Smith shone in Harlequins’ win over Exeter at Twickenham in what some were billing as an audition for the England 10 jersey against France this week. And in the women’s game earlier in the afternoon, Quins and Exeter set a UK domestic women’s attendance record, pulling in 15,420 to watch the Chiefs win.
Our Get a Grip section this week features Ealing Trailfinders Rugby Club for their seeming to confuse the Thames Valley with the Rhondda Valley in proposing to merge with the Ospreys in South Wales so that they can access top flight rugby by the back door.

We look back over the weekend’s 6 Nations Rugby, with two cracking games in Rome and Paris, and a close, edgy affair which England won in Cardiff.
Tony has Null & Void bragging rights after his United (Manchester) beat Andy’s United (Newcastle) in the League Cup Final at Wembley-despite Andy’s effort at dirty tricks to derail the Red Devils.
In Athletics there were indoor national records for 3 British athletes, whilst one long jumper choosing to compete in a bucket hat and balaclava! And staying with the cold theme, there was a first World Championships Gold in Snowboard Slopestyle for 16-yearold Mia Brookes.
And finally, we pay tribute to the “Voice of Football” after legendary commentator John Motson passed away last week.
This week we preview the League Cup Final between Tony’s Manchester United and Andy’s Newcastle United – with Andy unleashing an underhand secret weapon to try and help the less fancied Magpies!
We look back on an amazing win for St Helens in Sydney, taking Rugby League’s World Club Challenge Cup with an extra time golden point score, in a game that more than equalled international level intensity.
In Cricket, England’s men’s test team put in a dominant display under lights, beating New Zealand in just over 3 days to take a 1-0 lead in the series, whilst England’s women secured their place in the T20 World Cup Semi-Finals, against hosts South Africa. In NFL we have the Superbowl finalists after the Chiefs beat the Bengals in the dying seconds of the game, whilst the Eagles beat an injury affected 49ers. They now compete in the Superbowl on 12th February.
Rory McIlroy and Patrick Reed seemed to continue their feud in golf’s Dubai Desert Classic. There were tees flicked as the Ulsterman beat his rival by one shot to win the £1.2 million prize money, whilst the American courted controversy over a ball that got stuck in the top of a palm tree.
And in Rugby we look at the crises enveloping both the English and Welsh Unions, as well as looking back at a weekend of domestic rugby-including the much-vaunted Chicken Balti Pies at London Irish!

We celebrate England’s T20 Cricket win over Pakistan to become the first men’s team to hold the 50 over and T20 titles at the same time. Andy talks about his trips to Elland Road and the Emirate for the Rugby League World Cup Semi-Finals. Both close games, with England losing to Samoa in extra-time.

The Rugby League World Cup kicked off in Newcastle, with Andy (way, way) up in the stands. Despite some PA problems off the pitch, England performed on it, with a 60-6 win over Samoa, whilst Ireland opened with a win over Jamaica and Scotland were beaten by Italy.
Billy reviews two big upsets in Cricket’s T20 World Cup, with Scotland beating West Indies and Namibia turning over Sri Lanka, whilst our “Roving Australian Sports Reporter” goes into a bit of the background of Australian Cricket.

This week we have a focus on the different World Cup events taking place across the globe. England’s Red Roses opened the Women’s Rugby Union World Cup in New Zealand with an emphatic win over Fiji, whilst the Rugby League World Cup (Men’s, Women’s and Wheelchair events) kicks off in Newcastle this coming weekend.
England’s men continued their build up to cricket’s T20 World Cup with a series win over Australia, and Ireland’s women beat Scotland in a play-off to qualify for next year’s football World Cup Down Under.
In the midst of all this it was a double blow for domestic men’s rugby, with Wasps following Worcester into administration, and whilst Max Verstappen secured the 2022 Formula 1 Driver’s Championship with a win in Japan – questions now hang over whether he’ll be able to keep his 2021 title after Red Bull were found guilty of breaching the budget cap rules last season.

With the Commonwealth Games starting in Birmingham on Thursday, Tony gives a rundown of the key statistics and numbers around the event as many thousands of athletes, fans and volunteers head to Birmingham over the next 2 weeks.

In cricket, India had convincing wins over England in both formats of white ball cricket, whilst Emma Lamb scored a maiden 50-overs century as England’s women beat South Africa.
We look back at a fantastic start to the Women’s Euros football, including England’s 8-0 win over Norway – and Tony issues a “Get a Grip” to a famous Peer!
We have three guests this week – Andrew Harden-Sweetnam, Phil Wortley and Chris Heemskerk talk about their experiences participating in recent the Ironman 70.3 in West Friesland, as well as some of the other phenomenal challenges that they all blame each other for dragging them into!
