We are going to transform the way that motherhood is viewed, turn the negative narrative that is frequently sold to our society upside down, and resurrect a village of support around new mothers and families. The Joy of Becoming Real Podcast is about celebrating the good, the difficult, all of the love and everything real. We passionately believe that by supporting the mother, you support the child, and by supporting the child you contribute to the wellness and possibilities for future generations.

Kate is a Pelvic Floor Therapist who specializes in working with pregnant and postpartum women. In this episode we talk about how overlooked the pelvic floor is when talking about things like pregnancy, birth and recovery, the difference between things that are "common" versus things that are "normal" and how Kate approaches her work in a unique way. Kate works with women to, in her own words, "Take control over “leaks down there”, manage pelvic pain and tackle a host of other conditions we rarely discuss with others."

Mitch and Charynn Meoak are parents to three beautiful children, two conceived via IVF and one surprise twist baby conceived naturally. They came on in this episode to discuss their experience and get vulnerable while sharing their story undergoing fertility treatments and IVF. Fertility and fertility treatments are often topics that are difficult to openly talk about. In this episode Mitch and Charynn really unpack a lot of the nuances and things that make fertility treatments really hard for couples–things like finances and health concerns. We talk about how important it is to never assume you know what someone is going through and how to give people the space they might need under difficult circumstances.

Elizabeth Voss is a birth doula and certified breastfeeding counselor. In this episode we unpack the terms that are so often thrown at new moms: "fed is best" vs "breast is best". We talk about why both of these terms fall short of the mark, why we should stop using them and what the idea of "best" actually looks like in the real, messy, beautiful world of new motherhood.

In this episode Dr. Amy Couturier and Julia unpack what direct pediatric care looks like and how each mom’s unique breastfeeding goals can be supported in the medical community.
Dr. Couturier had her first child in the middle of residency and had trouble breastfeeding. She was told to just do formula by family members and oftentimes found it difficult to sustain when going back to work. As a training pediatrician she found it odd that breastfeeding and breast milk is so heavily emphasized in pediatric research but did not feel equipped to help her future patients. Recognizing this was the first step, and, wanting to take it further, Dr. Couturier made the decision to become an IBCLC and support her pediatric patients in their breastfeeding goals as well.
