What does it really mean to be a disciple of Jesus?
In this episode, we return to Scripture to let Jesus define discipleship for us. In 2003, a troubled middle-school student sparked a vision for one-to-one discipleship. What began as investing in one hurting, misunderstood kid grew into a life-changing journey of mentorship, transformation, and obedience to Christ. When existing resources fell short, a custom discipleship playbook was born—one that reshaped an entire youth ministry. This episode tells the story of how intentional, relational discipleship reflects Jesus’ model and calls believers to reach, teach, and send others to shine in the world.

“Church… we have a problem.” Borrowing language from Apollo 13, this episode confronts the growing disconnect between churches and young adults. As programs, entertainment, and numbers replace theology and discipleship, faith becomes shallow and unsustainable. We explore Jesus’ true model of discipleship—relational, intentional, and life-on-life—and why the church must move beyond age segregation and performance-driven ministry to intentionally train believers to live, grow, and reproduce as disciples of Christ.

Be a Coach, Make Disciples
The most influential person on a team is the coach—one who guides, mentors, and shapes lives. Jesus calls His followers to do the same through discipleship. The Great Commission isn’t about sharing and leaving, but walking alongside others with humility, compassion, and truth. By following Jesus’ example, believers are called to coach others in faith, investing experience, teaching obedience, and raising faithful, able, and teachable disciples who build God’s Kingdom.

What Is a Disciple?
Discipleship is more than a label or a moment of salvation—it’s a lifelong commitment to learning and following Jesus. Rooted in both Scripture and ancient practice, a disciple is a learner who follows a master’s teaching and way of life. Jesus’ Great Commission calls believers to actively make disciples by going, baptizing, teaching, and mentoring others. Every Christian is invited to grow in Christ and help others do the same.
