At Second Half Stewardship, we are Christians who believe that God Owns it All. Therefore, we are called to be good stewards of every good gift from God, including our time, money, relationships, and everything else.
Join us as we explore how to be generous stewards of God's gracious gifts!
Every investment is more than a financial decision—it's a stewardship decision. When Christians invest in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or ETFs, we're doing more than seeking financial returns. We're providing capital that helps businesses, governments, and organizations accomplish their goals. That raises an important question: Should our investments reflect our biblical convictions?
In this episode, we explore what Scripture teaches about stewardship, ill-gotten gain, and the responsibility that comes with investing. We'll discuss the difference between stocks and bonds, and what it means to own or lend to a company, and offer a biblical framework for thinking through today's investment opportunities.
In this episode, you'll learn:
• What the Bible teaches about ill-gotten gain
• Why investing is never morally neutral
• The difference between stocks and bonds
• What it means to own a company versus lend to one
• Value-creating vs. value-extracting businesses
• How Christians can think biblically about investing
While there are rarely easy answers, Scripture gives us principles that help us faithfully steward the resources God has entrusted to us.

The world says the goal of investing is simple: maximize risk-adjusted returns. But Scripture calls Christians to something greater—faithful stewardship. As followers of Christ, we aren't just asking how much our investments earn. We should also ask what they are funding.
In this episode, we explore the tension between the world's investment philosophy and a biblical approach to investing. We discuss what it means to avoid ill-gotten gain, whether Christians should be concerned about the companies they own, and why faithfulness—not simply financial performance—should shape the way we deploy the resources God has entrusted to us.
Whether you're just beginning to think about faith-based investing or you're looking to align your portfolio more closely with your convictions, this conversation will challenge you to view investing through the lens of Scripture.

What does the Bible actually teach about paying taxes? For many people, taxes feel like a burden—money lost to a system they may not fully trust or agree with. But Scripture offers a different perspective. In this episode, we explore how Christians can view taxes through the lenses of gratitude, stewardship, obedience, and trust in God's provision.
Drawing from Romans 13, the teachings of Jesus, and practical financial planning principles, they discuss why paying taxes is ultimately a heart issue, how wise tax planning differs from tax avoidance, and why gratitude should shape the way believers think about their finances.

How much should Christians give? Is the tithe a rule, a starting point, or something more? In this conversation, we explore the deeper biblical question behind giving—not just how much should I give, but how much should I keep. Looking at Scripture, the teachings of Jesus, and insights from Christian thinkers like John Wesley, we unpack the heart behind generosity and why giving is meant to break the power money can have over our lives.
This discussion explores the purpose of the tithe, the role of stewardship, and why generosity should flow from a joyful response to God's grace rather than simple obligation. We also examine practical ideas like setting lifestyle limits, prioritizing giving in your financial plan, and cultivating a simpler life that draws your heart closer to Christ. If you've ever wrestled with questions about tithing, stewardship, or how generosity fits into your financial life, this conversation offers biblical perspective and practical wisdom.

Money promises security, comfort, and identity—but it can also quietly take hold of our hearts. In this episode, we explore the deeper spiritual reality behind wealth and why Jesus warned that we cannot serve both God and money.
The Bible teaches that generosity is not merely about helping others; it is a powerful spiritual discipline that frees our hearts from the grip of materialism. Join us as we discuss why money can become such a powerful competitor for our devotion, how Scripture frames the tension between God and mammon, and why giving is one of the most effective ways to break money's influence over our lives.
We also consider how generosity shifts our perspective from ownership to stewardship and helps us lay up treasures in heaven rather than on earth. If you've ever wondered why wealth can feel so powerful—or how to cultivate a heart that trusts God rather than money—this conversation will challenge and encourage you.

In this episode we continue our conversation with Michael Blue about living simply and making spending decisions with God's Kingdom in mind.
Explore the counterintuitive nature of simplicity in the context of financial stewardship and how it aligns with seeking first the Kingdom of God. Michael draws on wisdom from Richard Foster's book Celebration of Discipline and Freedom of Simplicity, emphasizing that it's not just about frugality but cultivating an attitude of contentment.
The conversation unfolds with a real-life scenario involving oak trees on Michael's property, infected with oak wilt. The decision-making process becomes a profound lesson in seeking God's will and trusting His guidance in financial matters. Discover the importance of asking the question: How does this spending decision help me know God more and join in His work?
As we reflect on the challenges of living simply in a culture driven by consumerism, we highlight the transformative power of listening to God, being content, and waiting on His timing. Tune in for valuable insights that will inspire you to approach spending decisions with a heart inclined toward God's wisdom.

Welcome back to our two-part look at what Jesus teaches about money in the Bible. In this video, Austin and Spencer continue examining five key themes related to Jesus' teachings on money and possessions:
This video features many passages from the gospels where Jesus addresses money, including his teachings in the Sermon on the Mount, parables, and instructions to his disciples.
We emphasize the countercultural nature of Jesus' financial ethics and how they challenge our cultural norms and personal tendencies regarding money.
Our hope is that reflecting on Christ's words will transform our hearts and align our use of money with the values of God's kingdom.

How can Christians honor God with their giving? In this episode, we explore the crucial topic of giving with a focus on how Christians can honor God with their finances. We discuss the cultural trend of impulsive giving and advocate for a thoughtful process in determining where to give. Understanding that everything belongs to God causes us to consider the importance of stewardship and trust in God as the ultimate provider.
We will walk through a process that follow's Wesley Willmer's book God and Your Stuff. As you maintain a God-centered perspective, you can establish a process for selecting organizations and individuals that align with biblical principles, such as supporting the local church and advancing the spread of the gospel.
When determining where to give, you need to clarify priorities, concentrate giving efforts on a select number of institutions or individuals for more meaningful relationships and effective impact. You might even be challenged to give beyond your comfort zone, as seen in the biblical examples of the widow's mite and the generous giving of the church in Macedonia.
We explore practical guidelines for evaluating institutions, ensuring transparency, integrity, and the spiritual maturity of their leadership. While doing so, we also advocate for partnerships built on joy and peace rather than pressure or manipulative tactics.
Throughout the episode, we hope that you cling to the reminder that God is your provider and that He owns it all! We hope that you seek joy in giving through the Father, knowing that God's provision and reward await faithful stewards. Despite the challenges in determining where and how to give, there is the potential for deep joy and fulfillment in honoring God with their finances.

Choosing where to give charitably can be incredibly overwhelming. Friends, churches, and organizations always have needs, and God regularly gives us opportunities to help those in need. How can you determine the best places to give charitably? Where does the Bible suggest that you give financially?
Cameron Doolittle’s book Joy Giving gives some helpful insights into ways to categorize giving decisions. He urges us to consider giving first to our local congregation (church) and those who teach us. Then to give to people who are proclaiming the Gospel. Finally, we give to people who are in need.
Today we mention several organizations that we love, such as IJM and Hope International. There are thousands of other fantastic organizations that you can give to. We hope that this conversation will help spur you on to be a joyful partner to those institutions you choose to give to.

Giving money to church, missions organizations, or other charities can at times feel unsatisfying. Why is that? What causes us to feel apathetic towards giving? God desires that we experience fullness of life with Him, and this can come as we participate with Him in His work in the world through giving.
Often times, however, we miss out on the joy of participating with God in giving because we are focused on ourselves. What do I get when I give? We are inundated with images and messages of the good life: a bigger house, nicer car, more extravagant vacation. When we focus on our pleasure and joy, then we often spend more on ourselves than we ought to, or we store more for ourselves than we need.
Joy in giving comes as we redirect our aim from ourselves to seeing and savoring Jesus. As we begin to turn from ruthlessly trying to satisfy our desires to walking with the Father, then our delight in the Father grows. As our joy with God grows, then it becomes easier to participate with God in giving to His kingdom in joy.

Every day people around the world struggle with nagging questions about their identity. Am I enough? Is the work I do fulfilling? Am I important?
Essentially, we are trying to justify our existence apart from God. This inevitably will lead to internal striving and turmoil. It will drain our vitality in this life.
What if we are asking the wrong questions? What if instead of asking, "Who am I?" we asked, "Who is God?" or "What is He like?"
As we seek to know God and be generous stewards of all that He has given us, may we turn our hearts towards obedience to Christ, His words, and His affection towards us and away from vanity and striving after the wind.

The easiest way to do damage to a relationship is through trying to control and manipulate. We all know this is true, but we often use our time and money as a way to control the people around us.
What does it mean to be a generous steward of the relationships that we have? How might we use the time that we have with people or the money that we have to enhance relationships rather than control people?
Knowing how much is enough can help us escape the destructive pursuit of wealth, which can cause strain on relationships. Having appropriate finish lines can free you to spend time with your loved ones and charities you care about.

Choosing who to invest your time with is an important question for every steward? When you consider who you spend your time with, are you seeking the Lord for wisdom in those moments?
Paul, in 2 Timothy, instructs Timothy to teach faithful men who will teach other faithful men. This passage is often used as we talk about discipleship, but what does it have to do with stewardship? How might we be generous stewards of the time that the Lord has given us. Are we to give away our time to everyone?
Discipleship, like many other areas of our lives as Kingdom citizens, must be intentional. We must be people who engage those around us differently than the world encourages us. How might we be faithful to Jesus with these key relationships?

Almost daily, we are inundated with images of poverty that can desensitize us to the vulnerable in our midst. Often, instead of taking steps towards the vulnerable, sadly we can move away. However, throughout Scripture we see that God loves the vulnerable and wants to show his kindness towards them.
The Bible highlights four groups of people that are especially vulnerable: the poor, the foreigner/migrant, the widow, and the orphan. As Christians, and as the church, we must be conduits of God's grace towards the vulnerable.

We are constantly surrounded of images of the good life. From trends on social media to the mall to the university, our eyes and ears are bombarded with opportunities to live your best life. This vision of the good life distracts us from true life that is found in Jesus Christ.
The Lord, in Jeremiah 2:13 says, "for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water." (ESV) We, like Israel are constantly looking for something to give us life, and we often try to find that in various broken cisterns.
James K. A. Smith says, “Historic Christian worship is fundamentally formative because it educates our hearts through our bodies.” Together with the church as we sing, confess, pray, kneel, stand, and embrace our hearts are formed into a people whose aim is Jesus.

Jesus, even though he lived 2000 years ago in a time of greater technological simplicity, recognized the need to take time away from the hustle and bustle of life and connect with the Father. This is evident from the nine times that Luke recounts Jesus withdrawing to quiet places to pray.
After spending 40 days alone in the desert Jesus was filled with the Spirit and dependence on the Father. Through that time, he had the capacity to take on the devil himself and walk away unscathed. It is in the place of silence and solitude that we can be refreshed by God.
We can work on this in our own lives and start putting into practice silence, solitude, prayer, and meditation on Scripture so that we can be refreshed by the Father. It's important to have a balance between work and rest, and we need to consider ways to make time for rest and solitude in our daily lives.

What does the Bible say about growing and passing on wealth? One of the most challenging money questions that we will continue to be faced with is "How much is enough?" Over our decades of reading the Scriptures, we have not found a verse where God gives us a clear number or percent.
As faithful stewards, we need to ask the Lord "How much is enough" on a regular basis, and be ready to hear His words. This is important as we consider what enough is for our current season of life, the needs of our families, and the affect our savings will have on whomever we will pass resources along to after we return home to be with Jesus.

Stewards are called by God to give, and it can be challenging to obey His call. However, we tend to love ourselves more than our neighbor. Listen as we wrestle with the truths of the Bible that compel us to follow Christ and serve His people.

Every day, we are witnesses to time's progression. Daylight comes and goes; night arrives only to be followed by daylight again. We can look at our watches or clocks and see the hands moving, but in what manner is time moving? Just as the days are continuously circular, so is God’s presence. He is with you now, in the past and in the future. So, how do we serve Him with our time? In this episode, we will be explaining the beauty of the realization that God owns time, as He does everything else in life, and how to make the most of the time we have.

You cannot serve two masters. You will either hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. In other words, you cannot serve both God and money. However, if we live as the current-day culture wants us to live, it is our life and we are the masters of ourselves. God knows everything, and He is the one who guides us. It is Him who is the master. So, how can we let go of this innate need to find contentment in objects and money, instead allowing God to show us what is truly important? In this episode, we will be diving deep into this topic and sharing our advice on how we can all do better in this area.
