We are called to not live a normal life but to live a fulfilling life that honours God by using our gifts and talents for His glory, through this devotional we will look at what it is to live a fulfilled life for God.
God told the people not to have any other God but Him, this also means that we need to make sure that we don't make idols of fame, wealth or status and put them in front of Him!
St Peter writes in this one verse the Gospel. We need to be able to confidently tell others of the hope of Jesus Christ as Peter did!
Peter healed a lame man who was begging at one of the temple gates. Peter in the power of Jesus' name heals him and gives him a life he never knew. In God's world people are worth so much more than we treat them in this one!
St Peter tells us that it is God's will that we should live honourable lives that will silence ignorant people what have made foolish accusations against us. This is how we need to live each day!
John warns his readers of antichrists in their churches, people who don't believe that Jesus is Lord and deny so much about Him. They come into churches to cause division and chaos, we need to stand on the Word of God, so they will fail!
As Christians, we need to be wise with our money and especially wise when it comes to taking out a loan. We need to understand that we can afford to pay it back and to make sure we aren't buying things we don't actually need!
Throughout the Old Testament we see God's grace poured out time and again but the people get falling back to their sinful ways. God though has His ultimate plan that will once and for all change things but it is at the expense of His Son. What grace!
If we don't serve the Lord, we are going to put something in front of Him and serve that. Let's be like Joshua and declare that 'As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord'. Not just us but our families as well!
On the way back to Jerusalem, Paul and Barnabas stopped in Phoenicia and Samaria to visit the believers and told them that the Gentiles were being converted, much to everyone's joy. If someone comes to faith that we don't get along with, we should celebrate with joy as well!
When Jesus told the Samaritan woman to 'go and get your husband', she could have made an excuse or lied but she decided to tell Him the truth. At some point we will always have to tell Jesus the truth about our lives that we have lived.
St John writes that he and the other disciples heard, saw and touched Jesus. This is eye-witness testimony that is hard to deny. This should strengthen our faith and challenge those who don't yet know Jesus.
Many people think that all they need to do to get to heaven is to be good and follow the ten commandments, but we know this isn't true. It's like they are living under the old covenant of following rules but Jesus changed all of that!
God is discipline because He is treating us as His own children. We expect that we will get disciplined by our own fathers, so why wouldn't we expect to be divinely disciplined?
God said to Moses just before the Israelites were going to cross the Red Sea, 'Why are you crying out to Me?, tell the people to get moving!'. God had a plan and they should have just got on with it and not questioned it or Him!
St Paul prayed that the Ephesians hearts would be flooded with light so that they could understand the confident hope that God has given them. This prayer would also apply to us today!
The writer of Proverbs tells us to not have anything to do with evil people and the deeds that they do, we are told to not even think about it, to turn away and keep moving. We must pray for them the repent and come to know Jesus.
People who are against us can wait a long time to try and stop us from preaching the Gospel, we must be aware of this but more aware that God is with us in all that we do!
St Paul said that he is compelled by God to preach the Gospel and how terrible for him if he didn't preach the Good News! We are all compelled to preach the Good News because the Gospel is free and life changing for those who receive it!
John tells us that no one has ever seen God except Jesus who is near to the Father's heart and that Jesus has revealed God to us. If we truly want to know God we first know who Jesus really is to us.
The writer of Hebrews tells us that God's word is sharper than a two-edged sword, it will convict both Christians and non-Christians. Some people won't like this but it is all for our good!
St Paul wrote to the Ephesians from prison begging them to live a life worthy of their calling as he was doing. This is also something that we must do today no matter the cost!
The devil tempted Jesus but Jesus with stood him, so the devil waited for another opportunity. The devil didn't leave Jesus alone and he won't leave us alone, we must always be on our guard.
We should always praise the name of the Lord every day. The Psalmist writes that all things on earth should praise the Lord. Why? Because He created them and that is the least we can do!
The disciples looked at each other after Jesus told them that one of them would betray Him, they didn't know who it was at that moment! We don't know people's hearts but Jesus does, don't try to second guess just keep on with your calling.
God loves the prayers of the upright because He knows their hearts but He hates the sacrifices of the wicked because He knows that it their hearts are hard towards Him and it is all about themselves!
King David wrote that he took joy in God's will because God's instructions were written on his heart. As Christians, we can fell this joy to in doing God's will, but we just need to do it!
God will raise us from the dead by His power just as He raised Jesus from the dead. His promise of being with Him in heaven is true as we know that Jesus was resurrected in the tomb and one day that same power will do that to us!
The writer of Proverbs tells us that they rich and poor have something in common and that is that the Lord made both of them. They were both created in the image of God and that is far more important than their wealth status.
King David tells us that we must wait patiently for the Lord. In doing this, we must be brave and courageous as we have to wait on God's time and not try to sort things out ourselves!
Before David became King David, he was a shepherd. This was a time of preparation for what he was going to do in the future. We all need to go through times of preparation to become more effective for God.
When God relayed via Moses His instructions to build and make things like the tabernacle or the lampstand, the instructions were incredibly detailed. This was a good thing because it brought order into chaos and they knew exactly what to do. Details are good!
St Paul was persecuted and suffered for the gospel in many places but God rescued him from it all. God will also rescue us from persecution and suffering for the gospel.
We are not to copy the behaviour and customs of the world but we must let God transform the way that we think so that we will know God's will for us, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
When we are going through times of suffering we have to pray and when we are going through times of happiness, we should sing God's praises. Pray in hard times and sing praises in the good times! https://youtu.be/kYcNEY15I5A
The Psalmist writes that everywhere from east to west, we should praise the name of the Lord. There are many reasons to praise the Lord and we must make sure that we are actually doing this daily!
The writer of proverbs tells us that there are seven things that God detests. These are quite a good list to check ourselves against as a starter and asking the Holy Spirit to help of stop them, if we are doing them.
The rich young ruler asked Jesus how he could get into heaven but when Jesus told him that he needed to do one more thing, that thing he could let go of. He sacrificed what he desired for earthly treasures and we know what happens to them!
Some arrogant people in the Corinthian church were saying things about Paul when he wasn't there. He wrote to the church telling them that if God will it, he would return to see if these words that were spoken were pretentious or have God's power in them!
Two great things Jesus tells His disciples! They are that there is more than enough room in heaven and that He is preparing a place for each of us. I can't wait to see what mine has in store!
John writes in his Revelation that there will be silence in heaven for what he perceives is 30 minutes. This comes after great celebration and before everything changes in the world!
It is God who leads His people not us, we like Moses and Aaron are their shepherds. We don't need to put extra stress on ourselves because God is in control not us!
It is not just teaching others how to live their Christian lives out but we have to live it, so others can see our example and know that it is not just words but actions as well!
The Pharisees and the religious teachers complained bitterly to Jesus' disciples about what He was doing. Were they playing games and trying to get the disciples to question His actions. We must be aware of people turning our friends against us!
St Paul wrote to the Corinthians telling them not to forget their history and scriptures. Today we can look back and see Jesus in the Old Testament and learn from other peoples mistakes.
St Paul tell us that his life is now worth nothing unless he finishes the work assigned to him by Jesus. we have work assigned to us by Jesus as well, is your life worth nothing unless you complete this?
When God came down to Moses and spoke to him, Moses immediately threw himself to the ground and worshipped Him. When we will meet God in heaven, we will bow down and worship Him, but let's do that here and now as well!
Jesus said that the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like children. As adults, we can overcomplicate so many things but children see and understand things in a way that we need to get back to!
People will make foolish decisions in their lives and then blame God for them. A lot of people who do they don't even confess Jesus as Lord and don't take responsibility for their actions!
We live in a world today where discretion is not seen as much as it needs to be. The writer of Proverbs says that a woman who lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig's snout. Harsh but true!
God makes people right with Him only by faith it doesn't matter who they are or where they come from. He wants everyone to know Him by faith, but sadly many will not.

Through the generous grace of Jesus, He became poor so that we could become rich. He left heaven to die on the cross and if we believe that He did this, we will dwell with Him forever in heaven. This is worth more than all the money in the world!
Taking a rest is hugely important as we live our Christian faith out. In today's verse we see that Zechariah served in the temple for a week and went on to rest. We all need to rest, so we don't burn ourselves out.
Our faith isn't a physical thing that can be held or seen. As the writer of Hebrews tells us 'our faith is the reality of what we hope for, it is the evidence of things we cannot see.'
Just before Jesus feed the 5000, He asked Philip a question. Philip answered from a very worldly point of view, rather than trusting that Jesus was going to do something amazing! We need to turn to Jesus straight away, when things are beyond us!
We are holy people, children of God. We must clothe ourselves not with the clothes of the world but of our faith and show the world Christ through our mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Two disciples of Jesus, did what He commanded they even though it was a strange mission. But Jesus explained exactly what they should do and what would happen. It was easy for them to be obedient when the Lord asked.
Jesus told the disciples that they would leave Him but even though they did this, He was not alone because His Father was with Him, as He is with us.
People hated Jesus and made ways to catch Him out. He was angry with them because their hearts were hard. They would rather get Him than let Him heal a man and give his life back, no wonder he was (righteously) angry with them!
When we do good for others as Christians, those looking on will have a range of opinions. Some will hate us for doing good, others will be intrigued as to why we are doing it and ask us questions. Whatever peoples reactions, we must do this for God's glory.
We are the body of Christ, we all have different functions but we are all equally as important to each other to function well. We should never think that we are better than other parts of the body!
If we want to improve in whatever we do, we need people to help us by giving us honest criticism through love. We don't need people to flatter us all of the time because that will get us nowhere in the end!
As Christians, we mustn't forget to do good and share with those in need. These sacrifices are pleasing to God, but we don't do them the please Him, we do them because we are Christians.
It doesn't matter what age we come to know Jesus, what is important is that once we do we serve Him faithfully and live a blameless life just as God as Abram to do.
Jesus spoke to the people who came to see Him and told them that they need to dig deep foundations of their faith otherwise when it gets difficult, our faith can too easily be swept away.
St Paul had his gifts and talents that enabled him in his calling but he also had an ambition. His ambition wasn't about him but building God's kingdom. What's your ambition to bring God glory?
As Christians, when we welcome people into the church, we must never treat people differently. We are all made in the image of God and that is the most important thing. Not money, ethnicity, social status or anything other than that!
We will do what Jesus asks us to do, not because we have no choice about but because we know and love Him and understand what He has done for us!
When we hear something new from somebody about the Bible, we need to check whether it is true from reliable people. There is a lot of false teaching out there at the moment, find trustworthy and reliable people.
After Jesus told the people that His coming was the fulfilment of a prophecy of Isaiah. He preached that people should repent because everything had now changed. This is the same thing that we need to preach today, that hasn't changed!
St Paul had a thorn in his side which caused him pain and discomfort. He asked God to remove this from him but God told him that 'His power works best in his weakness'. Paul understood that his weakness, he was strong.
St Paul reminded Timothy in his second letter to him, to hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching that he had learnt from him. This is such great mentorship and something we should emulate today!
God teaches us what is good for us and leads us along the right paths. He is our loving Father, He will never send us on the wrong paths or make us do things that will lead us down the wrong paths.
Hosea writes of God speaking to that the priests at the time were exchanging the glory of God for idols at the expense of the people being destroyed. Sounds like things haven't changed!
Jesus explained the scriptures concerning Him to the disciples on the road to Emmaus and their hearts burned within them. We need to know and explain the scriptures to people today to set hearts on fire for Jesus!
St John saw in his vision an angel come down to earth and the earth grew bright with his splendour. This is nothing compared to the light of Christ which we await in heaven!
The disciples asked Jesus 'who in the world can be save?' after the encounter with the rich man. We can't save ourselves, it is only God who made a way to save us. But we must make the choice!
Never get tired of telling our brothers and sisters in Christ about our faith. We must be reminded daily as we are not fully finished on day one. We are battling against the world, so build each other up.
St Paul wanted to boast in nothing else other than the cross of Jesus. He saw the world differently because of this and the world saw him differently as well. This is something we should strive for as well.
After Jesus ascended to heaven the disciples went back to Jerusalem and spent all of their time in the temple praising God. What else would they do? This is a good example for us today.
God told the Israelites that they were not to listen to false prophets, fortune-tellers. interpreters of dreams, mediums and sorcerers. The same very much applies today. https://youtu.be/s_OhOgf1s1k
Saul was anointed by Samuel for his calling as king, this is something that still happens today for the monarchy in the UK. We all have a special calling on our lives by God, whether we anointed or not we must be obedient to it.
God created humankind in His image, in His image He created us both male and female. This is such a high honour for us but misunderstood by so many people!
God showed us His grace through Jesus, by saving us and calling us to lead a holy life, even though we didn't deserve it. This was His plan from the beginning of time!
Under the old covenant a priest would offer sacrifices day after day for the sins of the people. Jesus came to change all of that. The sacrifice that He made was once and for all on the cross for those who want to except it.
The Church will always have good people and bad people in it and Jesus tells us that we are not to try and sort that out. When He returns, He will do it but until then we must do our best in sometimes difficult circumstances.
The writer of Proverbs tell us that the godly care for the rights of the poor, this means it is not just about their needs. This is the difference the writer says between the wicked and the godly.
Even though we are Christians, we are foolish as we keep on sinning, even on purpose but we must understand that God knows our hearts. Know that God forgives our foolish ways but we must try to stop sinning knowingly!
St Paul can hardly believe the reports coming back to him about the church in Corinth, about the way they were still living in sin. As Christians, we have to leave the ways of the world behind for God's glory.
St Paul debated with some Greek-speaking Jews and they tried to murder him because of it, but he didn't stop speaking about the good news of Jesus with people. Nor should we!
As we live our Christian faith out, Jesus will give us the strength to everything. So we know that whatever we are called to do, we can face it head on because Jesus is with us.
When we confess Jesus as our Lord and Saviour then we honour Him in everything we do. We belong to Him and He will honour His promises to us. We no longer live for our own gain but for His!
St Paul tells the Romans to conquer evil by doing good. This was counter-cultural then and it is now. We can do this as Christians, because we know God is on His throne and He is the ultimate judge, not us!
Gossiping can cause angry to those on the receiving end of it. Gossiping is not good and should be avoided at all costs, especially the cost of damaging someone's reputation!
Paul lived his faith out in such a way that he could use it as a testimony when giving Timothy instructions on his calling. We need to live our lives this way as well, to help others to see what it is to be a Christian.
When the Pharisee's couldn't arrest Jesus, they found others to join their cause against Him. If people did that to Jesus, when we do His work people will also do it to us. Don't be surprised!
As Christians, may we have people praying for us to help enable us to live a life worthy of our call by God and may God gives us the power to accomplish good things for His glory!
Evil people won't rest until they have caused someone to stumble and won't sleep until they have done their evil deed for the day. We must pray for these people and understand stop their ways.
St Paul remind Timothy of some prophetic words that were spoken about him and that they may help him to fight well in the Lord's battles. Prophetic words are good but we must ensure that they are from God!
We have to be careful and discern who is doing the work of God because if we try to stop them and we are wrong then we might be fighting against God Himself!
The essence of God's words are true and His regulations will stand forever because what God says and how He put everything in order will never change because He doesn't!
St Paul and his team pleaded, encouraged and urged the new Christians in Thessalonian as well as treating them as their children. Discipleship and mentoring is so important and must never be neglected!
The writer of Proverbs tells those who are lazybones to take a lesson from the ants! They are to learn from their ways and become wise. A good challenge!
When people are saying incorrect things about doctrine and the truth of the Bible, we need to correct them to help them to see the mistakes that are making and their consequences!
People kept asking Jesus if He was the Messiah but He told them that He had already answered their question and they should know He is through the works He is doing for His Father. Although He knew many people wouldn't believe who He is. We need to remember this!
David praised God in psalm 145. We can only imagine that he thought about who God is a lot and then expressed his thoughts in such a beautiful way. Something that we should emulate!
Moses's father-in-law told him that he is going to wear himself out with such a burden of the work he was undertaking. It was probably a tough message to hear but one that needed to be said and to us today!
St Paul asked the Philippians to make him truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly, loving one another and working together with one mind and purpose. Not bad advice for today!
As Christians we should hurry without delay to obey God's commands. They are there to help us to live a richer and fully life, so why wouldn't we hurry?!
God gives people time to repent of their actions and to turn back to Him. He has also done this with nations. Our God is a gracious God and it is us who have the choice to turn to Him.
Fire will test the purity of silver and gold but God knows the purity of our hearts! As Christians, we need to give over to God those things which only we know about ourselves because we hide them from other people.
Jesus is the Messiah! He told this to His disciples at the Last Supper, He said that when Judas betrayed Him then they will believe who He is and it was foretold that this would happen to the Messiah.
God chooses and sends us, He doesn't make mistakes. He knows our personalities, gifts and talents and the right place for us. Take confidence from that and know that He is always with you.
Jesus told us that there will be false prophets who will try and trick us into false lies about Him. Many people are deceived but we must counter act these people but preaching the gospel!
We will sin but we have to pick ourselves up and not beat ourselves up about it but learn from it and start again daily!
Our testimonies of different things that have happened in our lives through the intervention of God are amazing and powerful and most be told from generation to generation.
God knows not just what we are thinking but also our hearts. We can't hide anything from Him, He knows our lives. Are we living our lives that are pleasing to Him?
Jesus told His disciples that life is more than food and the body more than clothing. We know that God will provide what we need and we need to focus on what is the most important thing and that is God!
Given the right reply to a response is always a pleasing thing but when we do it as a Christian response is always better! Sometimes we might have the right response but then we say a quick prayer to God for one!
God is the Father to the fatherless and Protector of widows, when this was written this would have seemed absolutely incredible, which it is because of who He is!
Nehemiah's heart was broken for Jerusalem. So much so that it showed on his face in front of the king of Babylon, who he was cup-bearer to. The king allowed him to go back to restore Jerusalem. Does your heart break for something today?
Simeon not only saw God's salvation but held Him! One day we to will see God's salvation but we must first of all encourage others to join us in meeting Him in heaven one day!
Two people cannot walk together without agreeing on the direction they will take and even their final destination. We need to walk with those who agree on the direction and not try walk with those who don't!
As Christians we are to think about heaven and not things of the earth. We have left those things behind us, now it is the time to think about what is to come and how we live our lives so others can see that as well!
In difficult times, those who don't know God might pray to Him for help. As Christians, let us share our testimony with others that encourages them to seek out God sooner in those difficult times.
In the midst of a storm on a ship and in danger, St Paul took control of the situation and with his deep trust in God and saved all of the lives on board in exceptional circumstances. God is always with us in our storms.
God is not only in heaven but He is with us through the Holy Spirit. As we read the Bible, we see that in the beginning the Holy Spirit was at the creation. God is with us all of the time from the beginning to the the end.
Christians can sometimes be too critical of each other, especially when it comes to things that don't stop us from getting to heaven. Instead we need to find harmony with each other and build each other up!
When God makes an oath He does not change His mind! People can change their minds and this is really disappointing but this will never happen with God!
Don't worry what other people are doing and don't envy others either. Always put God first and know that He is in control and the most important thing is to know Him!
Evil people will always choose their own way and not the way of the Lord. They will always do evil things in God's sight but there is the hope of the gospel that He offers them forgiveness if they choose to accept it.
Even though though Joseph ended up in Potiphar's house in unexpected circumstances. He knew that God was with him and worked hard and was successful.
Those people who deny Jesus is Lord this side of life will not have the opportunity. As Christians we need to speak this truth in love but their choice will be for eternity!
Jesus' disciples followed Him wherever He went, during that time they learnt off Him. When He ascended to His Father's side, with the Holy Spirit in them, they emulated what they had learnt off Him. We have the Bible and Holy Spirit to do the same today.
No matter what we go through in life, God will cause everything to work together for the good. As Christians, we have to trust in our heavenly Father in what what.
For people who didn't want to know God, He let them go their own way and they chose to do what they wanted. They still had a choice to know Him but they chose to do what they wanted with terrible consequences!
As Christians we will suffer at different points in our lifetime, but we must have patience in our suffering. We only have to look at the prophets as examples and to understand.
After Jesus was resurrected not only did He appear from time to time to prove He was alive, He also talked about the Kingdom of God. Why? Because it is that important and that is why we must!
We must remember than giving will help others and to spread the gospel, it must be done willingly and not through any pressure. Most importantly this is not about giving money to get more money back!
Testimony is a powerful witness! Don't ever hold back on the truth of your testimony, even if you think it is a bit wacky or strange. God will do miracles in our lives and they always point back to Him!
God is all-powerful and there is no other teacher like Him! Yet, we can sometimes tell God what to do or where He has gone wrong, we need to understand that there is no other like God, before we criticise Him!
We cannot have idols in our lives that we put before God, especially if we are hiding them from the world. We can't hide anything from God and we can never put anything before Him!
If we look throughout history we will see the faithful love of God played out and most of all in His coming into this world to make a way back to Him. The wise will understand this, but the foolish won't!
We have to be careful that we are listening to false prophets filling us with false hope. God lamented this in the book of Lamentations, but we see history repeating itself today! We must make sure we are only listening to faithful biblical speakers.
The Psalmist asks that if the Lord kept a record of our sins, who could survive? The Lord instead made a plan for us to have our sins wiped off that record, so we can survive.
At the end of Paul's second letter to Timothy, he speaks of practical things. In what he says, we understand that he is not doing ministry alone, even if some people don't support him! We are not lone wolves in our ministries!
The woman who anointed Jesus before He died, did what she could at the time. Let us follow her example and always do what only we can do for God's glory.
God is faithful, we are not! As Christians, we can sometimes not be faithful to what we believe. This doesn't mean that God is unfaithful, but people will not see it that way. We must live a faithful life and repent when we don't!
The writer of Exodus tells the readers to love your enemy through helping them, these are words echoed by Jesus. Even though this might feel difficult at times, as Christians, this is something that we must do!
The writer of Ecclesiastes tells us that the more knowledge that we gain the more sorrow we will have. As Christians, we mustn't turn away from knowledge because of sorrow, as we are called to help people through the sorrow.
When Jesus returns many people who haven't proclaimed Him as their Lord and Saviour will not dwell with Him in heaven. It will be a sad day for us when our loved ones aren't where we are but we have the opportunity to change this situation before it is too late!
The poor widow put all she had into the offering, whereas others put in a tiny bit of their surplus. We can't hold anything back from God, we must go all in!
When Jesus sent the disciples out to preach the good news, they didn't need anything as He provided everything for them. This is the trust that we need to have when we follow our callings.
We have to bite our tongue and shut our mouths sometimes before we say something we later regret! As Christians, we can speak the truth, but always in love!
The early churches were strengthened in their faith because they were following the Apostles teaching. The result of this was the churches also grew. Today churches that honour the Bible will be the ones that are growing.
St Peter tells us that we don't know when Jesus will return but it will be like a thief in the night. As Christians are we making the most of every moment to build up the kingdom?
St David tells us in one of his prayers to God that because he followed God's commands, he was kept safe from cruel and evil people. Following God's commandments are good for us, even if the world things that are irrelevant or boring!
St Matthew tells us that Pontius Pilate knew that Jesus was brought before him because the religious leaders were envious of Him! Don't be surprised when people of jealous of your ministry as well!
God's love and faithfulness endures forever, that is why it is right that all people should praise Him, as well as the nations!
St James tells us quite rightly that we shouldn't grumble against our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, as He could come back at any moment! Do you need to speak to someone?
After Paul was converted and was in Damascus he immediately went out to the synagogues preaching that Jesus was indeed the Son of God. Can you remember that passion of telling others about Jesus at your conversion? How is it today?
Many people will scheme against us, but we must pray that their shame horrifies them for what they have done. This is the point that they have realised they have done wrong and our forgiveness is waiting for them!
Whatever we do God knows it but more importantly he knows the secrets of our hearts. We can't hide anything from Him, that will make you think!
Jesus' ministry was know far and wide and many people came to see Him. We need to use our gifts and talents for people to come and we what we are all about and then we can proclaim the good news to them.
As Christians we can't continue in the life we lived before we came to faith. God calls us to be holy just as He is holy, this is a lifetimes work but it is all worth it!
When we die we can't take material possessions with us. We come into the world with nothing and we leave it with nothing, except that is our memories and our actions. It is important for us as Christians to create good ones for God's glory!
A demon possessed girl shout at St Paul and others as they we going to pray. This happened daily until Paul got frustrated with her and cast the demon out! This led to being put in prison but the jailer coming to faith! We just do know what might happen but we need to trust God daily.
