Ep. 23 | Loving and Letting Go with Alana Capesky

Summary:

If I've learned anything about love and life, it's learning when to let go. While some may perceive this as a selfish act, I am here to tell you otherwise. Having the courage to let something or someone go is a selfless act. One that takes great courage and strength, and that's what today's episode is all about.

This week on Courageously Authentic:

  • Giving yourself permission to move on
  • Not everyone can meet us where we're at; and why that's more than okay
  • Defining love
  • The impacts of living out of alignment
  • How foreshadowing my future gave me the courage to make a change (more than once)
  • Why nobody wins when you play the roles others want and need you to play at the expense of yourself

Key takeaway:

In honoring yourself, you honor those around you - not the other way around.

Quote:

“The greatest act of love onto oneself and another is sometimes just knowing when to let go”

Redefining our purpose | with former Pro Athlete and owner of Are You Game Conditioning Club - Kim Mcphail

Summary:

As one door closes another door opens. Redefining our purpose as we grow and evolve is something we are all met with. Stepping into a new identity as we shed the layers of our past takes courage. In the process of recognizing what once served but is now inhibiting us from fully embracing the new, it's important to remember the lessons, give thanks for the gifts and experiences we gained along the way, and let go of the rest that keeps us stagnate in the containers of our past.

In this episode of Courageously Authentic, I have the absolute privilege to speak with former pro athlete, mother, wife, entrepreneur and professional, Kim Mcphail. Here, we explore what it takes to level up in life and in our experiences, or “simply” realign ourselves to the person we are today and what it means to let go of the comforts of our past in order to expand beyond old limitations.

This week on Courageously Authentic:

  • Using the nature of competition to propel your life forward
  • Meeting the best parts of yourself in the face of adversity
  • Overcoming perfectionism
  • Using competitive sport as a means to cope with the imbalances of life
  • The light and dark side to training at an elite level
  • Shifting back into balance after competing
  • How the context of things shift as we get older
  • The aftermath: Kim gives insight into what she would do differently knowing what she knows today as former professional athlete
  • Transitioning from professional athlete into motherhood, entrepreneurship, business professional life, and more
  • Not taking things for granted
  • Redefining our purpose as we grow and evolve
  • The upside to being uncomfortable and knowing when to ask for help
  • Grieving the loss of external accolades linked to your identity as a successful… fill in the blank
  • Who we become in the processing of unbecoming

Why I say go for it with Alana Capesky

Summary:

Thinking about starting your own business? Trying something new? Applying for your dream job or asking that person you like out!? Whatever it is for you; if there is a desire and pull to take action, but you haven't, YET, what's stopping you?

In this short episode, I share from my personal experience of why I say go for it!

This week on Courageously Authentic:

  • What's the worst that can happen?
  • What do we gain when we practice moving past our fear?
  • What do we gain in the face of adversity or rejection?
  • How we free up space to redirect our energy in the process of taking action
  • How inaction guarantees stagnation
  • What do we lose when we don't just go for it?

Key takeaway:

When we practice the Law of Detachment - we detach ourselves from the results and outcome in order to allow what is in service for the highest and best to manifest.

When we have done our part (taken aligned action), we must then learn to let go of the outcome in order for things to materialize. Only when we let go will things emerge and take new form for the greatest good of all.

Quotes:

“While the outcome may not be in alignment with your ego, the higher self knows a greater purpose is unfolding.”

Why conscious relationships seem boring with Samantha Charan

Summary:

This week on Courageously Authentic, I speak with Samantha Charan, a clinical therapist of nearly seven years with a background in working with homeless youth, as well as children and families impacted by mental health.

As a counselor and therapist, Sam draws from a broad range of education and life experience, ultimately lending to the holistic approach she takes in treating her clients, not just their symptoms. As a result, Sam's clients walk away with the tools they need to experience sustainable change and, ultimately, call in more of their heart's desires.

Changing the narratives that inhibit us from living and leading our most authentic lives is what this episode is all about! Sam comes fully equipped to the conversation with the knowledge, tools and the heart to lead the perspective to support us in tapping into our personal power, taking aligned action and, ultimately, creating a life that mirrors our internal yearnings.

This Week on Courageously Authentic:

  • Becoming emotional detectives
  • Learning how to self regulate in prolonged periods of stress
  • Fixing versus reflecting
  • Unpacking our past in order to gain insight into our future
  • Why therapist have therapist too; the power of community, connection and humility at every age and every stage of life
  • The benefits of having clearly defined morals and values
  • The impacts of habit stacking, structuring your day and learning to say no with confidence
  • What stops people from enforcing their own boundaries?
  • Manifestation & Narrative Based Therapy; are they different?
  • Navigating unhealthy relationship with people we love
  • Why conscious relationships seem boring
  • How do you know when you've broken a cycle that no longer serves?
  • Defining passion in a conscious relationship versus an unconscious or toxic relationship
  • Navigating complex moral dilemmas and religion

Key takeaway:

“There's no experience like a lived experience; don't allow external factors, titles, degrees, and accolades stop you from sharing your innate gifts with the world. You are worthy, you are powerful; nothing outside of you determines that.”

Biofeedback and Beyond with Karrie-Ann Knox

"Every time we feel heavy, we are met with an opportunity to bring light to it – we can’t fix it but we can contribute to the collective consciousness that identifies that certain things are wrong and should not be happening,” an impactful quote from Karrie-Ann Knox.

Karrie-Ann, a certified biofeedback practitioner for 20+ years, joins me to discuss the science behind biofeedback and its benefits through a spiritual lense. We delve into how our bodies store memories and experiences, and how that can grant us insight into our mind, body and spirit presently.

As the saying goes, we cannot change what we don't acknowledge; Biofeedback is a tool and gateway to help us bridge the gap between our conscious self and unconscious or highest self. It is a means to help us heal, transform and transcend beyond current limitations and restrictions that keep us from ascending into all that we are meant to be and more.

Biofeedback in conjunction with Karrie-Ann's highly intuitive and spiritual nature is an experience like no other! You won't want to miss this episode!

In this episode, Alana and Karrie-Ann have an enlightening conversation about:

  • What is biofeedback?
  • Why it's important to explore biofeedback with an open mind and heart
  • How biofeedback offers opportunities to show us where we are unbalanced
  • The power of our thoughts; how our physical bodies and energy are a mirror reflection of them
  • Biofeedback is a tool to communicate back to us what our bodies intuitively know

If you want to explore the importance of biofeedback and how it can strengthen your connection with your mind and body, take a listen now!

Hormones and the Divine Feminine with Dr. Kayla Clarke

Hello and welcome to another episode of Courageously Authentic. My name is Alana Capesky and I am so excited about today’s episode which emanated from my personal curiosity and desire to better understand and deepen the relationship with my divinely feminine self. In this episode, I speak with Dr. Kayla Clarke.

Kayla was born in Vancouver, BC and has spent her life amongst the forest, ocean, and mountains. After completing a degree in Behavioral Neuroscience from SFU, she enrolled in the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine program which allowed her to answer her calling as a healer, but not within the realm of the dysfunctional western medical system. Dr. Kayla draws from values of connection and balance, and enjoys helping modern humans connect with their health, thrive in their worlds, and execute their purpose. In her practice, she often combines elements of neuroscience, modern medicine and technology with ancient knowledge, tradition, and culture.

WOW! This episode and conversation with Kayla really solidified why I started Courageously Authentic. I fundamentally believe that the world cannot heal until we heal ourselves first, and that our external world reflects what’s going on inside of us. From our thoughts and beliefs to our physical environments, relationships, daily habits and more – we are in the driver’s seat.

Love always,

Alana

Empowered Sensitivity with Carissa Kazyss

This week on Courageously Authentic, I speak with Carissa Kazyss, a coach with Empowered Sensitivity and a passion for creating safe, kind, and enlivening spaces that support thriving for those with high sensitivity. Carissa brings a Master’s in Integral Psychology to the conversation as well as 10+ years as a practitioner with The Way of the Heart, a multi-pronged approach to inner awareness, energetic fieldwork, and life missions. Carissa has also published works in multiple fields, including education, mental health, and community development. Carissa is a highly sensitive person herself and is a mom to a highly sensitive son.

In this episode we explore what it means to be a Highly Sensitive Person, otherwise known as an HSP. HSPs can easily be overwhelmed by things like bright lights and loud noises. While some may thrive during busy times, HSPs can often feel over-stimulated and consequently labeled as too shy or too sensitive. But is that really a bad thing? Research suggests that 20% of the population is highly sensitive, yet our environments and how we interact with HSPs rarely reflect this statistic.

As a highly sensitive person, learning how to manage overwhelm and advocate for your needs is an integral part to thriving with high sensitivity. When done effectively, the gifts of your sensitive nature - such as your increased empathy – will not only serve and support you for the best, but also help others see the benefits and added value in being an HSP as well.

This Week on Courageously Authentic:

  • Life as a highly sensitive person
  • How to communicate with people who are non-sensitive
  • Embracing your sensitivity rather than resisting or resenting it
  • Supporting yourself and others through triggering moments
  • How to advocate for your needs
  • How to avoid survival mode
  • How to teach highly sensitive children to communicate their needs
  • Learning how to self-regulate your stress and nervous system
  • Tips for grounding yourself
  • Setting yourself up for success in the workplace
  • What success means to Carissa

Key takeaways:

  • Recognize the benefits of sensitivity
  • Embrace the gifts of a sensitive nature and how to use them to your advantage
  • Discover what your triggers are to develop a management system that works for you
  • Understanding the needs of HSPs and HSP children
  • Tangible tools on how to regulate your stress as an HSP,  like breathing techniques and exercise

Quotes:

  • “Feeling one’s own confidence in how sensitivity serves them and how they use it to serve others.” – Carissa Kazyss
