Lemme tell you my new friend, Meredith.

She is truly all the things good that we need in the interior design world. She believes in what she does (as she should - her designs are gorge!), cheers on other designers and creatives along the way and probably needs a soda stream sponsorship ASAP.  In all seriousness, I’m lucky to have her on the podcast as the creative force behind House of Huck.

Founded in 2020, House of Huck creates timeless spaces focusing on functionality and beauty while keeping your lifestyle top of mind. We make the process streamlined and straightforward, taking decision fatigue off your plate and holding your hand every step of the way. Meredith and her husband live in Coastal Connecticut with their two young children. She is also a licensed real estate agent in the state of Connecticut and enjoys supporting her clients to turn average houses into spectacular homes.

It’s those views that have maybe given you the itch to create your own space. So, we’re here and we’re chatting up how to make the best of your zoom background and beyond!

Have you ever been in a home that just feels right? One where chairs pull out easily from the dining table and conversation can be made without shouting across the living room? Well there are reasons for that, and they probably have a lot to do with spacing and placement. Following a few simple guidelines will make a world of difference in the functionality of your home’s layout.

SHOW NOTES

We’re coming to you today with our friends at WINC. Try it now for $20 OFF your first case.

In general I believe that design rules are meant to be broken, but not when it comes to proper height and furniture spacing. When these basics are out of whack even the most delicious assortment of furnishings will seem off. Spacing and dimensions aren’t suggestions - they’re basically requirements to having your home be seamlessly perfect. We’re going to chat up to of our most common spaces that require a lot of thought in the spacing: The dining room and living room.

On May 27, 2020 I sent out my very first email for my brand spanking new email it. My list consisted of the friends + family I asked to sign up - and/or signed up for them.  The body of the email was basically a verbatim sample of their text that I tried to make sound a little like me. It was rough, I had no idea what I was doing and one of my best friends unsubscribed after two emails. I was clearly crushing it…

It took me about 6 months to really figure out how amazing email marketing is for my business and needed to shout it from the CEO-Rooftops. Today, we’re talking about creating and the strategy to grow your email list!

SHOW NOTES

“an email list is the only space where you completely control the narrative and amount of people - or followers - who see it. ” (3:15)

“I hate to be the one to break this to you, but we have zero control when it comes to social media.” (6:55)

“I believe that email marketing gives your the ability to have personal connections with individuals who are there to become buyers.”

I don’t know about you, but when starting my own business really started changing from a-small-idea to a need-to-do, it had a lot to do with how burnt out I was from my 9 to 5. While I was pretty clear minded when I started out, and knew that it wasn’t going to be some easy push to glory, I found myself starting to hit those similar burnt out feelings I had before.

The difference this time? I knew that the only person who could change this pattern was me. Today, we’re sharing our the key mindset shifts that helped us not feel quite so overwhelmed…

SHOW NOTES

“The biggest shift, though, is making sure your mindset is geared towards progress over more work… ”

“The joke of this all is - wasn’t the whole point of working for yourself to give yourself more time? That was one of my goals.”

“You can be successful, in fact, potentially more successful, by giving yourself the same attention you give to your business.”

I have a theory that our society is filled with people who fall within one of two categories: those who wait until September 22nd to finally accept that summer is over and those who have been chugging those pumpkin spice lattes since their mid-August return.

While I would most likely associate myself with the first category, I find nothing wrong with starting the prep work to start emulating one of my favorite season throughout our homes and beyond.

If you’re looking to to create a sprinkle of seasonal style mixed with a fall oasis feel, look no further: we’re offering FOUR tips in creating the best version of Fall in your home.

SHOW NOTES

“…I feel that the seasonal shifts in our homes should be a breath of fresh air within our desired palettes, not a complete haul of seasonal vomit.” (2:36)

“…if you’re wanting to tone down the small pieces you’re purchasing in order to use your hard earned money to get lasting pieces - that's what we’re here for.” (4:36)

“Redecorating for a season doesn’t necessarily mean big purchases, it can absolutely be reworking with what you’ve got.” (9:56)

“Chevron - or as my friend, Katie, calls it “squiggle lines.” I don’t love it.” (11:10)

“…boundaries are important.” (12:38)

I think it was 2015 when I was sitting at a table with three of my friends - a couple bottles of wine deep - and the idea of starting a podcast came to light. I was the only person who was still completely lost on podcasts, so I didn’t think much of it at the time.

We didn’t start that podcast, instead I moved across the country and almost 6 years later podcasts are my personal lifeline. While I didn’t take that leap then, It’s never too late and i’m taking it now and I am soooo excited to share my passion project: The House Whine Podcast.
